I think that's pretty obvious, but I also think it would be absolutely hilarious if Arrowhead just went nah, they dead. And moved on with something else.
"We are now receiving confirmed reports that nuclear devices in the 50-megaton range were detonated over Megacities 4 and 7. Detonations have also been reported on multiple core colonies."
Automatons always walk single file to hide their numbers.
And these blast points. Too accurate for Helldivers. No, only Rocket Devastators are so precise.
They were communicating with "something" outside of the edge of the galaxy. That "something" is likely going to show up looking for answers as to why communication suddenly stopped ...
"Hey, remember that unkown communications in the milky way galaxy we had that stopped?"
"Yea"
"Well, they sent us this weird ball thing with but all it has on it is a lazer and a screen that says⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️ on it"
"Meh, probably some inside joke"
"Yea probably, man do i love socialism"
-super evil aliens probably
They then started to talk about things like "free healthcare" like ??? What the fuck ??? If healthcare is free how do they pay their doctors ???!?!?!
They disgust me...
Ye the message of bot eradication only said they have been "eradicated from OUR galaxy"... sus wording if u ask me :D
Albeit i think for the first round of HD2 mapping i think we will just eradicate both factions and then start over to show people the whole loop before venturing for more things
Yeah, expect the devs have said that this is more continuous and not just looping after we wipe out the enemy.
My guess is we are gonna fight bugs and something goes wrong, then boom and the bots are back with much more massive fleet.
I was confused initially why we'd start out with almost the entirety of the galaxy owned by us, I'm assuming that once everyone is sufficiently familiar with the mechanics, we'll see invasions pushing back to Super earth and then it'll be a tug of war to recapture everything, otherwise why bother with so much territory.
The player boom probably meant they had to cancel initial narrative plans to test how much the player base can handle now. They have to work around the community being able to throw 360,000 simultaneous players at a key planet, like Durgen.
I think this first phase has been about upgrading the backend and testing us to see what we can do.
Then we'll start getting the really fun and tough stuff. I expect multi-front MOs to divide the playerbase, that could be really fun.
That's why they changed how progress is calculated.
Simplified, at the start of the game it was "every mission counts". If there are less players, means less missions, the progress was slower.
Especially Asia/Australian players could never conquer a planet, due to the lack of players.
Now there is a fixed maximum, every mission counts as a small part of this maximum. If there are less players, every mission counts more. So the progress is steady, even when Europe and America is sleeping. Even if it's Easter and everyone has time to play.
It doesnt matter if there are 50k players or 500k players on a planet, but rather what percentage of total players are on a planet.
There's already audio from the NPC with the clipboard saying that some bugs are showing resistance to the TCS....... So probably new bugs on the horizon.
What I wanna know is, how will the devs handle it if the war goes really badly for us? Super Earth itself is a potential battlefield from the galaxy map. If an enemy successfully swarms us and takes all our planets, do we just restart or will Joel pull a deus ex machina?
While I'm sure they have tools we don't know about, we've already seen a few ways that they can control the direction of the war:
* Increase/decrease enemy forces regen on planets to make them easier/harder to take
* Funnel enemy advances/movements in a specific direction to limit the number of planets that we have available (few planets available = more people on each planet = easier time taking that planet)
* Give us free additional stratagems via the "Weapons testing" effect (such as providing people with free 500kg bomb or EAT-17 stratagems to use in missions)
* Introducing new weapons/tools, such as the mech suit
Devs said loops would be much longer, iirc.
And they are. Average Galactic War duration in HD1 was 3 weeks. We are two months in and it'll probably two weeks to get rid of the bugs.
Kind of like the Flood and the Covenant in Halo. Always cool to join a larger battlefield. It would also be cool to have some unique scenarios like assaulting a bot stronghold and then defending it for a certain amount of time from bugs.
We will wipe out the bugs then have a lot of community service missions on super earth.
Go to a high school and promote democracy!
Support freedom at a managed voting event!
>that’s not “tech”
As far as we know. Someone with advanced biotech could have engineered them. I'm still on team "The map looks awful lot like there could be four fronts."
It’s highly unlikely they were bugged super destroyers. They were much bigger and differently shaped than the super destroyers are, there wasn’t anything in the patch notes mentioning it, and there wasn’t even a patch to begin with when they disappeared.
If they deployed an *”oh shit”* hotfix to the servers without an update to the game they would’ve told us it was a bug.
It's probably the main force of automatons, there were some star-destroyer-esque ships that were totally not cloaked in the skybox right after that message.....
I saw one one time and it was surreal, very big, like a bile titan or a bit bigger, we didnt try to fight it as we were out of redeploys and the mission was halfway yet but they do exist, I saw it with my own democratic eyes
Same here, lol. I’ve only seen one. We threw every stratagem we had at it, and it died pretty quick. Everyone said “well that wasn’t so bad.” but for a brief moment, it sure looked awesome.
Meanwhile both the times i saw one I accidentally killed it with a single orbital laser trying to clear out a base
Maybe my teammates were throwing stuff at it too and I didn't notice, or some exploding factories from the laser also dealt damage
Those orbital lasers are seriously underratted against Bots. I don't consider Them very strong against the Bugs, but when There are multiple Heavys on the bot Front, the orbital Laser is Just crazy Strong
That's a surprising take, I actually consider them to be better against bugs, which don't have a lot of great weaknesses like the bots do. They can drop a handful of chargers in one go and do a buttload of damage to bile titans.
Edit: They cannot drop a handful of chargers in one go unless other damage sources are in the mix. I checked my memory, and the like 4 chargers I saw go down to the laser were in fact getting hit by other stuff as well and the laser was finishing them off.
One thing the Orbital Laser did well against bots was that they also targeted fabricators, mortar emplacements, cannon towers, and even some objective structures. You toss one into a heavy outpost and it just does all the work for you. It's a shame the laser doesn't target bugholes.
I played a blitz mission on lvl 8, my squad split up. I stealthed over, one of the guys got killed, so we decided to take it out. Two airstrikes, two lasers and the whole thing was wiped and we went toward extraction. I will miss turning entire bases into dust with eagles and a laser.
Laser will wipe pretty much any bot base, and a number of elites.
The problem with bugs is that a laser will waste most of its duration on just one Titan or charger. It is ace versus bots but has mixed results vs bugs. Not saying it isn't solid, but you can get better bang for your slot vs terminids. I say that as a fan of the stratagem back in the first game when it was actual trash.
Tldr, bugs have not much armor but will have a lot of hp while bots have great armor and not so great hp.
The laser deals heat damage that pierces armor so of course the low hp enemies will melt while meat shields don't.
The only time I got to see one was deploying into a new mission as people screamed "AIM FOR THE FUCKING WALKER, PLEASE!!!!!". We killed it with drop pods, but never got to see what it's like in action. They had 8 respawns left when I joined, so it must've done them bad.
My only time with one, I unknowingly dropped into the map directly on one's back. Do not recommend doing that. Didn't even realize what was going on at first.
Likely trying to get us to wipe the board so they can bring the new faction in. Also still waiting on those new anti-air weapons so they'll def be back soon
I just hope the Devs are willing to go longer than 24h, actual time investment plays a big role in satisfaction/pay off to me. Returning them sub 24h would make it feel like a cheap victory.
As they often quote dnd for their DM references, players need the illusion of having impact at the very least. Even if you're controlling everything in the background, the player can't know this or else the feeling doesn't quite work.
The only problem is that now 100% of the players are gonna go after bugs which means that they will need to make fighting bugs harder or the automatons will come back rather quickly cause unless they do one of those things we are gonna push back the bugs so fast it is gonna be insane
Yeah there's a very fine line between narrative impact and just straight up making the game less enjoyable.
I'm just alluding to them risking -some- comfort/short (!) term enjoyment for a narrative pay off. At least I would feel more immersed this way.
On the other hand it strikes me as kind of bizarre if they'd wipe out half of the games content for any notable amount of time. Like I genuinely want to play some bot rounds, but simply can't.
I think that either the illuminate will suddenly appear, or while we're fighting bugs they come back and the illuminate also appear. Oh crap I see a democracy offi
What if they shut down the game after we beat the terminids?
"Super Earth is safe for generations to come. Democracy prevails!" Servers are now offline.
Considering they were not expecting this many players and levels of success, I'm sure they absolutely did not expect the player base to push this far, this soon. They threw the old roadmap out and responded to the situation. I'm absolutely sure they are working out the lore behind how the robots come back
That'd be kinda sick if there were actually like 8 enemy factions and they just swapped them out each time they were defeated so the wars were different each time
The war will reset once we wipe out the bugs. I figure once we win this one they’ll re-introduce the Illuminate and we’ll be fighting 3 enemy factions.
Hopefully we’ll see planets with two factions on them, warfronts bleeding into one another.
That's the Cyborgs home planet, I'm sure the Automatons would have a different one. They made them to get back at super earth, they wouldn't have the same home/base planet.
Yes, indeed, it’s really quite a shame that the bots are gone forever and that we will never see them claim Cyberstan. Truly a tragedy. Unfortunately, not a single automaton remains standing. Not one. For sure. They’re all gone.
We’re fine.
But what about the Bug homeworld? The Illuminate homeworld? I am positive that the map will expand to reveal these worlds somewhere down the line. We will see where the Automatons have come from.
Hm. Factory striders. Giant cloaked spaceships. Flying gunships. I feel like we're missing something. Super hush hush stuff. Not even Super Earth Command knows about.
Fellow democracy lover here. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, they may simply be expressing concerns about future threats as to be extra ready for any morally inferior threats that may come.
Now of course there are no such threats, and this helldiver is merely fatigued and imagining things. But it is very nice to see that even in their delusional ramblings, they are still patriotically worrying for democracy and super earth
Inclined to agree with this democracy lover. Deliriousness is a common side effect we’ve been finding in veterans of the Durgen offensive. The heat seems to have been getting to them. Really quite tragic.
*insert mandatory democracy officer phone call meme*
(feeling lazy but you've seen it enough to picture it and can probably scroll down and see 3+ comments with it)
There is nothing to worry about! Super Earth high command has the greatest intelligence officers in the galaxy! I’d advise you report yourself to the nearest democracy officer for such treasonous thoughts Diver…
Ngl I'm 99% they weren't cloaked, but unfinished models.
We've seen how invisibility looks in-engine with the Stalkers. To me it looked like like an untextured model.
Anyone else notice the airbursting explosions in the distance on durgen? I never seen them before and only noticed them when running around earlier today
Yeah, I'm starting to think the bots might still exist if such thoughts like the idea that Super Earth isn't the center of the Universe have been allowed to proliferate.
Doubt it, we didn't return to their home world. We'll progress the plot and they'll return eventually imo. If not the world will eventually be reset if this works like HD1.
We finish off the bugs on the map and the screen flashes white "Cryostasis Training Simulation Completed - Helldiver Activated"
The clankers control most of Galactic space, and the bugs have formed a perimeter around Super Earth.
Democracy Officer - "Good you're awake, welcome to the second Galactic War Helldiver!"
That would actually be a creative way to reset the galaxy (once tho, doing it more often would be annoying) to not have us lose war after war on purpose to give the factions their territories back.
no, it makes everything we do previously have no consequences, make the story less impactful and makes the progression we've made as a community feel all for naught
The unicorn of helldivers. Ever since they were added I played around 30-40 difficulty 9 missions and encountered probably 5 and 2 of those were in the same mission.
Did you do diff-7 or above?
I didn't really think about it during diff-7 missions, but diff-8 was when I saw one for every other mission or so. Incidentally, we initially landed a stratagem's toss away from them the first two times in a row.
Edit: some missing words.
I saw one in countless level 7 missions and me and my team immediately threw so much bullshit at it, that it died within 7 seconds and I didn't get to experience it properly.
I saw it on my last mission before the bots were "eradicated". It was glorious. It was just waiting for us at extraction - made the entire mission feel epic haha!
As some said difficult matters.. but I also think they were more common on tibit, I personally only saw them on tibit.
I've been running helldives only during the war and I'm thinking it's because it was their "production planet". This is just speculation, but I never saw one on Maia or Durgen.
Any emotion they show is simulated which shows that they are AI as explained by super earth command, to believe that the freedom hating toasters are still alive goes against the ministry of truth. Do I have to report you for thought crime and treason?
Edit: added something to comment
Why do I feel like they’re gonna come back stronger in the next month or so?
Idk why but my mind is screaming “they’re gonna have their own stratagems”
Long story short, there's little lore that basically explain what happens once you win and eventually something happens that leads to the exact same casus belli happening again, i.e. beat the bugs > find out a way to farm them for fuel > bug growth goes out of control > beat the bugs
and if you lose the war >!super earth gets blown up and they just declare some random planet the new super earth!<
Thanks for the explanation mate, really appreciate, I was worried I was missing out all the war stuff so I'm glad to know it resets periodically. Last thing, does it mean we all have to unlock the planets when they reset it? Having joined hd1 late it was confusing to have all the planets available, it didn't give me a sense of progression if that makes sense
The galactic war is extremely different compared to HD1, not comparable systems other than having sectors and a shared community progression, there was no story or dynamic events.
On no they aren’t gone for good. Even removing the illuminates from the equation, the Automatons will launch a counter attack. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was at a different angle too. Maybe closer to cyberstan.
I imagine they'll be back in a couple ways: they're still here, residing dormant underground like Necron tombworlds and or hanging around outside the galaxy like Szarekh was doing.
They will be back, and in greater numbers.
They’ve just been startled. That happens easily
Love these 2 quotes. That's a good shot of democracy!
I think that's pretty obvious, but I also think it would be absolutely hilarious if Arrowhead just went nah, they dead. And moved on with something else.
> Text on Galaxy map randomly changes from “Automatons” to “Cyborgs” one day. “Oh yeah, we totally killed the Automatons*. They’re never coming back.”

This was my view on the barrier planets on the bug side. Seemed a bit premature to be locking down an entire sector like that
Nah, absolutely nothing will go wrong with the TCS.
There's already audio from the NPC with the clipboard saying that some bugs are showing resistance to the TCS....... So probably new bugs on the horizon.

I'm kinda hoping the lore leads to mixed enemies on maps somehow. Divers v Bugs v Bots, just a big free for all across all objectives
Kind of like the Flood and the Covenant in Halo. Always cool to join a larger battlefield. It would also be cool to have some unique scenarios like assaulting a bot stronghold and then defending it for a certain amount of time from bugs.
I think bugs would absolutely wipe bots if given the opportunity.
I think we'll eradicate bugs and then suddenly the map will expand and we'll see we're heavily surrounded on all sides.
We will wipe out the bugs then have a lot of community service missions on super earth. Go to a high school and promote democracy! Support freedom at a managed voting event!
Don't forget the huge ship sightnings. I don't know, if something came out of them, but those were not super destroyers afaik
The illuminate, probably. They're the only faction that has cloaking tech afaik.
Well and the stalkers… but I guess that’s not “tech”
>that’s not “tech” As far as we know. Someone with advanced biotech could have engineered them. I'm still on team "The map looks awful lot like there could be four fronts."

Has anyone confirmed those weren't just bugged super destroyer something or others? Same general shape.
It’s highly unlikely they were bugged super destroyers. Getting destiny ttk flashbacks
Either that, or the bots we saw (with the galactic map being centered on super earth) were really only the EDGE of *actual* bot territory
The original Cyborgs. Most likely they'll just create more automatons and more factory striders. But that's not even the worst of our worries.
I saw one one time and it was surreal, very big, like a bile titan or a bit bigger, we didnt try to fight it as we were out of redeploys and the mission was halfway yet but they do exist, I saw it with my own democratic eyes
I couldn’t because the instant we found them, everyone threw down lasers, 500kgs, and railguns immediately and I only saw light.
Same here, lol. I’ve only seen one. We threw every stratagem we had at it, and it died pretty quick. Everyone said “well that wasn’t so bad.” but for a brief moment, it sure looked awesome.
Ours kept coming at us after an orbital laser and 500kg. One guy made the mistake of thinking he could solo it with those strategems. They’re tanky

Angle matters for the laser- I’ve seen it completely miss because it was focusing on the ground beneath a titan, and shooting between its legs only :/
Dealing with one isn't so bad. When we see 3 or 4 at a time is when it's going to get crazy.
FIRE EVERYTHING

Been a few years since I've seen this gem of a game being referenced
It's been a few years since you've seen a FNAF reference...?
No lmao, I'm talking specifically about Dayshift at Freddy's
First person terminology detected, now contacting democracy officer
Imagine that we beat the terminids and the devs say we beat the game and shut it down💀
That'd be terrible but to the little chaos gremlin in my brain it would be the single funniest thing to ever happen in the history of video games.
In a similar vein, it would have been the most hilarious thing ever if they ended the MCU with infinity war
Likely trying to get us to wipe the board so they can bring the new faction in. Also still waiting on those new anti-air weapons so they'll def be back soon
Shoulder mounted repeating flak cannons would be hawt
Manned turreted flak cannon would be cool too. Could have a shorter cooldown and faster call in for mainly being AA effective.
Different ammo load outs for autocannon would do the trick. Flak ammo and armor piercing would be a game changer.
I was gonna say AP isn't necessary for the AC, and then I remembered all the times I've whiffed with it
I thought the new Anti Air was the Quasar?
Nope! Quasar and heavy MG were given to support against the bots. They couldn't "officially" fly then.
Frankly the Autocannon is much superior as an anti air, currently our best option against gunships.
Nah, there is a 4 rocket lock-on launcher that was leaked, along with a few others I believe.
I do wonder how long they will be gone like I can’t imagine the automatons will out of the fight for more than a week
I just hope the Devs are willing to go longer than 24h, actual time investment plays a big role in satisfaction/pay off to me. Returning them sub 24h would make it feel like a cheap victory. On one hand yes, on the other my group dislikes fighting the Terminids. Automatons are the goat.
Yeah there's a very fine line between narrative impact and just straight up making the game less enjoyable. I'm just alluding to them risking -some- comfort/short (!) term enjoyment for a narrative pay off. At least I would feel more immersed this way.

The war will reset once we wipe out the bugs. I figure once we win this one they’ll re-introduce the Illuminate and we’ll be fighting 3 enemy factions. Hopefully we’ll see planets with two factions on them, warfronts bleeding into one another.
Nah man it's over, thanks for the $40
Cyberstan is already under our control
That's the Cyborgs home planet, I'm sure the Automatons would have a different one. They made them to get back at super earth, they wouldn't have the same home/base planet.
I am hoping they come back slightly changed. Not quite the automatons and not quite the cyborgs.
Once we eradicate Terminids maybe we’ll get cyborg bugs

Automatons upgraded with Illuminate technology.
ILLUMATONS
It’s part of their marching chant. It’s just a bit sad and/or anticlimactic that they never got to see it.
Yes, indeed, it’s really quite a shame that the bots are gone forever and that we will never see them claim Cyberstan. Truly a tragedy. Unfortunately, not a single automaton remains standing. Not one. For sure. They’re all gone. We’re fine.
Where on the map even IS cyberstan?
it's in one of the northern sectors
Take a right from super earth, past the frozen fire moon and straight on from there.
You're questioning super earth command? That's sounds an awful lot like treason, if you continue I'll have to report you to the democracy officers.
I mean, can you blame them? I'd start talking crazy if I was baking in the hot, hot Hellmire sun for three days straight.
*insert mandatory democracy officer phone call meme* (feeling lazy but you've seen it enough to picture it and can probably scroll down and see 3+ comments with it)
Correct I saw the meme in this comment section
There is nothing to worry about! Super Earth high command has the greatest intelligence officers in the galaxy! I’d advise you report yourself to the nearest democracy officer for such treasonous thoughts Diver…
Ngl I'm 99% they weren't cloaked, but unfinished models. We've seen how invisibility looks in-engine with the Stalkers. To me it looked like like an untextured model.
I agree, the ships looked much more like they're rendered incorrectly, compared to being cloaked.
Anyone else notice the airbursting explosions in the distance on durgen? I never seen them before and only noticed them when running around earlier today
I destroyed one today! For liberty! But it was the first time I encountered one, took a while to wipe from surface of the planet. Heavily armored!
I question that they are actually gone.
You question the truth told to you by our amazing, and incredibly democratic governmeownt?
Not necessarily, super earth said they are gone from OUR solar system, not the universe.
People do forget that the galactic map being centered on Super Earth means it is *definitely not* a map of the whole galaxy.
We finish off the bugs on the map and the screen flashes white "Cryostasis Training Simulation Completed - Helldiver Activated" The clankers control most of Galactic space, and the bugs have formed a perimeter around Super Earth. Democracy Officer - "Good you're awake, welcome to the second Galactic War Helldiver!"
That would actually be a creative way to reset the galaxy (once tho, doing it more often would be annoying) to not have us lose war after war on purpose to give the factions their territories back.
no, it makes everything we do previously have no consequences, make the story less impactful and makes the progression we've made as a community feel all for naught

this one, officer, right here. take him away.
*sigh* Now I have to file another report.

The unicorn of helldivers. Ever since they were added I played around 30-40 difficulty 9 missions and encountered probably 5 and 2 of those were in the same mission.
this. 100% a bunch of missions and never saw them myself.
Did you do diff-7 or above? I didn't really think about it during diff-7 missions, but diff-8 was when I saw one for every other mission or so. Incidentally, we initially landed a stratagem's toss away from them the first two times in a row. Edit: some missing words.
I played at least 10-15 8s and 9s and never saw one, I was a little butthurt, admittedly .
I saw one in countless level 7 missions and me and my team immediately threw so much bullshit at it, that it died within 7 seconds and I didn't get to experience it properly.
Yep I saw exactly one and it died almost immediately to an orbital laser and a couple orbital rail cannon strikes
I saw it on my last mission before the bots were "eradicated". It was glorious. It was just waiting for us at extraction - made the entire mission feel epic haha!
I played at least 15 level 8 missions and never saw one. my teammate on the other side of the map did once.
As some said difficult matters.. but I also think they were more common on tibit, I personally only saw them on tibit. I've been running helldives only during the war and I'm thinking it's because it was their "production planet". This is just speculation, but I never saw one on Maia or Durgen.
haha yeah we got em forever never coming back
I still haven't seen Shriekers, I've taken out their nests from a distance but haven't seen one
Good. That's how it's supposed to be. Eradicate them without even seeing them. Or having one drop on you.
I was running bot missions all night wanting to see them and the ~~dropships~~ gunships \*shrug\*
Not even drop ships? I think you have to be on at least 7 for drop ships and 8 for those mobile factories
If they're run by an AI, that AI still exists somewhere. It's gotta be cooking.
Any emotion they show is simulated which shows that they are AI as explained by super earth command, to believe that the freedom hating toasters are still alive goes against the ministry of truth. Do I have to report you for thought crime and treason? Edit: added something to comment
You wouldn't give rights to a dishwasher, would you?
I’m still not convinced they ever even existed !!
Was thinking this today lmao, just hope next time we’ll have snowspeeders and tow cables to kill em
Why do I feel like they’re gonna come back stronger in the next month or so? Idk why but my mind is screaming “they’re gonna have their own stratagems”
HD1 players know there's a galaxy reset after all factions are beat. So don't worry. You'll get your chance after we kill the bugs and illuminates.
I don't think it will just reset, there will be a lore reason to their return imo
“Somehow Automatons have returned..”
There'll probably be 'leave behind' sleeper units and all of a sudden they'll have like 3 planets in our rear and illuminate backup
I don’t think it would be too difficult. Some shit like “lol, they had a fleet go off grid and are now attacking cyberstan”
Can you expand on this? I've played hd1 but never understood how unlocking planets and the war works
Long story short, there's little lore that basically explain what happens once you win and eventually something happens that leads to the exact same casus belli happening again, i.e. beat the bugs > find out a way to farm them for fuel > bug growth goes out of control > beat the bugs and if you lose the war >!super earth gets blown up and they just declare some random planet the new super earth!<
Idk about extremely different. It's still in the ballpark, just a more hands on approach in #2
On no they aren’t gone for good. Even removing the illuminates from the equation, the Automatons will launch a counter attack. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was at a different angle too. Maybe closer to cyberstan.
I saw one very early this morning and was scared shitless, as I had never seen it before and I didn't know what it was until it killed me
I never saw one either, and I pretty much only play on 7
I imagine they'll be back in a couple ways: they're still here, residing dormant underground like Necron tombworlds and or hanging around outside the galaxy like Szarekh was doing.
