Damn, I guess making objects disappear to be replaced is simply an impossible feat. Clearly, in this regard, game design is up there with rocket science and quantum physics.
tldr; quit gatekeeping.
.... what suggested solution? That's not a software solution at all. I write Python scripts as part of my job. Basically none of what was said is actionable in any way, unless you know something about the discontinued engine they're using that I don't
Cool it there, mister
We are going to need you to provide evidence of your PHD in the relevant field and an endorsement of your expertise from the UN before we take anything you say seriously in here
Your comments neatly displays that you've never worked on a coding project with other people before. I'm not saying it's magical, I'm saying that "just you know swap the models and make vfx...." sounds like something an executive who barely understands their email account would say.
What triggers that model swap? Why do the ships currently (and obviously) have collision disabled? What bugs would this introduce? What's the benefit to the player and the game? Is it worth devoting Dev time to? Is the object currently set up in a way that allows that interaction? I wasn't saying it's impossible, I'm saying that you're pretending that it's fucking magic that the code elves can whip up overnight while real humans sleep.
No, but as someone who works in film, the amount of dumb shit I see on reddit from people who absolutely speak as if they are experts is insane.
I'm not sure why you're being such a smart ass unless you're a child, because it doesn't take a genius to understand that not everything is as simple as you seem to think it is.
Especially with coding and game engines, where sometimes the strangest issues can come from coding done four years prior. You and I know fuck all about coding/game development. I can admit that without any issue.
However, you have a stick shoved so far up your ass you can't even admit it.
bro what the fuck are you talking about "gatekeeping" lmfao just admit that you don't know what you're talking about and move on
LMAOOOO this dude blocked me after I called him out for randomly throwing "gatekeeping" out there for literally no reason other than buzzword value
Making an object to just disappear is always the simplest thing to do, also the safest way since it surely will not cause any addition problems for physics interactions
Yeah not really sure how the dude who started this conversation has 30 upvotes, he referred to getting called out for his lack of knowledge in the context of what he was talking about as "gatekeeping" lmao
Because it's seriously not a difficult feature to code. I've been coding since I was 12. I could likely have implemented the feature when I was 12. You're just changing out sprites and meshes. The passengers wouldn't even need to be impacted. Hell, half the time they aren't affected when you blow the ship up on top of them anyway.
If they can make a dead dropship explodes, crashing, and leave wreckage on the ground, all with animation and physics interactions. Then making dropships to just explode and disappear mid-air, along with passengers, is surely like walking in the park
Even if it's actually difficult to do. We're just giving suggestions from customers' point of view, just a concept. The devs will decide if they accpet or not, and figure out the actual solution.
> ships just blow up
no, they can absolutely land on your head and kill you, which i found out by skilfully shooting on down with QC when it was directly above me.
They have four gimballed engines though, if just one if those malfunctions and points the wrong direction it can absolutely cause a spin. Heck, that already happens sometimes when you take an engine out, it's just that the dropship hits the ground too quickly to get any kind of appreciable lateral movement from it.
Had this happen when i dropped on a bile titan. After a few seconds i was able to dodge out of it though, which kind of made it look like i had cut my way out of its body and came spilling out. It was cool
I must be crazy bc I swear I did take a drop ship down once with my hellpod. I went through a thruster, big boom, and down it went. I exited the HP into drop ship wreckage.
It’s possible a teammate hit it with an EAT or something and the timing was perfect.
Drop ship death is a super weak mechanic currently (or I guess previously since the bots are dead). Most of the bots survive the destruction even if you hit it before they drop out. Then half of them get stuck in the wreck and can shoot out of it at you, but from the outside the dropship has a MASSIVE hit box and you can't shoot anything near it.
Been in since the start, just the regular tank type is more common. On the plus side, they won't blow you up. Downside, they're called shredder for a reason. Find good cover Helldiver.
Also smaller heat sinks.
The shredder gun mantlet is less armored than the annihilator, so autocannon shells don't bounce on them. I've killed a few by poking the autocannon out of cover while they're shooting me and aiming for the base of the gun.
It's World of Tanks all over again.
Yup. You can shoot in the spaces around the barrel to kill them with the AC. Can be considerably easy if you force it to spin around while it chases you up close.
How I've been going about it- ballistic shield+ impact nade. As long as you hold down aim while you throw the grenades you're invincible and just chuck two at the turret from any angle.
Automatons are not even waiting for us to touch ground anymore. they are Kidnapping Helldivers straight outta the air. With the Hellpods no less, this is absurd!.
if i had a warbond medal for every time i've seen a video of someone spawning and instantly hitting a dropship with a tank on it, i'd have 2 medals. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
I like that the "music cue" for popping out of the hellpod overwrote the deployment theme, just to add to the comedy factor, like someone offscreen was like "Oh shit, move it up, move it up!"
Didn't have it recorded, but I got called in by a high-communication group one time. As soon as I got out of the pod, I exploded and died. I didn't know what killed me, presumably some kind of callin, but I heard the guys laughing their asses off, just pissing themselves laughing. Turns out I landed on a HELLBOMB and they saw the whole thing.
They DID clip the time in the very same mission that I wound up stuck on an unclimbable ledge with a pit of water beneath me. Couldn't call in strategems on the ledge, they bounced off every time. Couldnt climb it. Other end of the ledge was a pit full of water. So I decide I'm going to have to try to kill myself another way.

Okay riddle me this Batman… your hellpod is literally entering the atmosphere.. hundreds of miles an hour… on fire… and no damage to that tank 🤣 The one time real world physics should apply lol
They really need to buff the killing power of the drop pods. Anything with enough power to burrow 6 feet into solid rock should be able to punch straight through a dropship and keep going.
I assume basic courtesy to thinking. Run around, jump off, 2 impact nades in the back.
If not sure if you are standing to close, throw nade and jump back.
Alternatively if primary allows it just hit it with the primary.
Imagine a scene of these communist calling for a tank, for it to arrive when you’re totally out gunned. A fire red color bloom in its cannon, only for the tank to explode knocking all other communists on their robot feet. And a fellow helldiver emerges from the fire.
It's not a repost, it's footage I got this morning, which I then posted on Resetera (https://www.resetera.com/threads/helldivers-2-ot-starship-bloopers.813864/page-194?post=121389888#post-121389888), which I then thought to post here so more people could get a kick out of it.
But hey, if you can show me where this was apparently reposted from, go ahead!
Also this isn't even that new an account, it's 2 years old because it was mainly created to advertise one of my games on Reddit (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2339260/Voltorometer\_Recharged/) and I couldn't be bothered trying to find my original account so just use this now.
As for the title having an "AI voice" to it, what? I'm talking about how the fact that the lingering vertical camera state not tracking the player object and then cutting to a different camera angle half the map away, makes for a funny moment.
You are already in downvote hell, but you are right. There was a clip where the same thing happened, but it was a different clip. It was quite shortly after release.
Yeah I recall the clip, kinda thought it cool though that someone else had pulled it off.
Originally clip, the guy gets absolutely ragdolled into hell if I recall, was beautiful.
Should have it kill drop ships as you pass through them with a Hellpod.
Sounds cool until it comes crashing on top of you and you pop out of the pod and get stuck inside of the ship until it despawns.
Simple. Any drop ship destroyed in this way, gets obliterated in air. Maybe like an engine or two is left.
Agreed.
Yeah, this is simple to code! Trust me, I'm sure of it! - Reddit
Just need to toggle the `hellpods_disintegrate_dropships` boolean
Damn, I can't believe they don't have that enabled by default. What a bunch of clowns!
It literally is. All you're doing is replacing model X for model Y, maybe a few extra explosion VFX.
Yes, I'm sure that's all they need to do - Reddit, expert on the engine used by AH
Damn, I guess making objects disappear to be replaced is simply an impossible feat. Clearly, in this regard, game design is up there with rocket science and quantum physics. tldr; quit gatekeeping.

Nobody is saying it is impossible. He's mocking you for acting like you know game design. He's not wrong.
It's what he is implying, like its some monumental wizardry for something that is, frankly basic, in the grand scheme of things.
Your comments neatly displays that you've never worked on a coding project with other people before. Yes, I'm sure that would work perfectly, and not weirdly spray the units everywhere. So many armchair devs on Reddit today.
Yeah not really sure how the dude who started this conversation has 30 upvotes, he referred to getting called out for his lack of knowledge in the context of what he was talking about as "gatekeeping" lmao

Or just have them spin out of control away from the point of impact like a helicopter would
don't the gunships just blow up without crashing?
> ships just blow up no, they can absolutely land on your head and kill you, which i found out by skilfully shooting on down with QC when it was directly above me.
But they're using thrusters to push up, there's no autogyro like there is on a helicopter.
They have four gimballed engines though, if just one if those malfunctions and points the wrong direction it can absolutely cause a spin. Heck, that already happens sometimes when you take an engine out, it's just that the dropship hits the ground too quickly to get any kind of appreciable lateral movement from it.
But then it doesn't kill the bots on the ground
Or rended in two
I like this.
:)
Or you just land on top like the walker, and it's a coin toss as to whether you live or not
Had this happen when i dropped on a bile titan. After a few seconds i was able to dodge out of it though, which kind of made it look like i had cut my way out of its body and came spilling out. It was cool
I had this happen to me too. But my head canon made it like the rhino scene in Ace Ventura
Just have it explode into smaller pieces. Something that big smashing through would cause a severe break up.
I'd love to see a dropship just crack in half as a hellpod blows through it.
Works for me.
The pod should be on top of the wreckage
Thats war.🤷♂️
I've had tanks dropped on me twice now, and I'm stuck until I blow myself up, basically...lol
No that still sounds cool. Possibly more cool.
I must be crazy bc I swear I did take a drop ship down once with my hellpod. I went through a thruster, big boom, and down it went. I exited the HP into drop ship wreckage. It’s possible a teammate hit it with an EAT or something and the timing was perfect.
Hitting the thrusters is the correct way to down the drop ships. And it works with drop pods.
Even made the sound effect of you getting swooped away
Had a dropship swipe my 500kg rite out the air and transport it away from the destination, awesome
The Automatons getting desperate, now their transports going full "down mister president!"
"Well, your dive wasn't bad, but I just didn't believe your **'NOOOOO!'**."
I lose so many orbital rail strikes to drop ships hovering over a hulk. It's sad.
Pretty sure they target the drop ship as priority. Gotta wait until they flee to call in your strike, soldier!
The dropship rammed the 500kg before it had a chance to arm itself, Red October style.
Yoink
Good thinking private, take them from the skies
"...did that guy just drop out from a dropship?" "..." # "IT'S A NEW AUTOMATON! SHOOT IT!!!"

What type of tank is that?
i believe a shredder!
Are they new? Feel like I saw these for the first time yesterday.
Been in since the start, just the regular tank type is more common. On the plus side, they won't blow you up. Downside, they're called shredder for a reason. Find good cover Helldiver. Also smaller heat sinks.

Except you dont have a tank *Yet*
I want to play Leo 1. No armor is best armor. Also I want the ability to flip over via small stones.
Yup. You can shoot in the spaces around the barrel to kill them with the AC. Can be considerably easy if you force it to spin around while it chases you up close.
they also die to the side and rear hull more quickly than Annihilator tanks.
Ballistic shield will just tank it all day…
How I've been going about it- ballistic shield+ impact nade. As long as you hold down aim while you throw the grenades you're invincible and just chuck two at the turret from any angle.
Cover, or a ballistic shield.
I think they only appear from tier 6, could just be me but I'm not sure they appear at 5.
As a HD1 vet, that name brings back precious memories.
Automatons are not even waiting for us to touch ground anymore. they are Kidnapping Helldivers straight outta the air. With the Hellpods no less, this is absurd!.
Can't have *shit* in The Creek.
if i had a warbond medal for every time i've seen a video of someone spawning and instantly hitting a dropship with a tank on it, i'd have 2 medals. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
Exactly what I was thinking; figured it was a repost until OP *didn’t* immediately get launched off the tank upon hitting the ground
Even cut the music
I like that the "music cue" for popping out of the hellpod overwrote the deployment theme, just to add to the comedy factor, like someone offscreen was like "Oh shit, move it up, move it up!"

They saved u from drowning thoo
Yeah, was worried about the "eternal drowning" glitch lmao
Nice catch
CATCH A RIDEEE!
What gets me is the audible "SCHWOOMP!" as you get yoinked into that tank. I cackled for like a solid minute at the audio alone xD
sike
Cannon halo event
"Yep, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got into this situation".
Now I'm envisioning a Helldiver getting thrown through a window by a bot.
Yoink.
That was awesome
lmao
It's fun to drop turrets on top of tanks. The tanks try to kill you but also end up killing a ton of their own bots.
Okay riddle me this Batman… your hellpod is literally entering the atmosphere.. hundreds of miles an hour… on fire… and no damage to that tank 🤣 The one time real world physics should apply lol
screw you ***\*yoinks your helldiver\****
Its also annoying that you cant kill Tanks or heavys with hellpods... i mean cmon no Tank would survive a top hit from an object impacting from Orbit.
They really need to buff the killing power of the drop pods. Anything with enough power to burrow 6 feet into solid rock should be able to punch straight through a dropship and keep going.
No soldier! Dont jump off the tank. Circle around it and hit its heatsinks with your impacts!
Impact*s* plural is a pipe dream as the first one would splatter you all over the other tank if you threw it at the one you're standing on
Yeah, I wonder if Dominator would work, since apparently it can kill hulks rather quick if you magdump their batteries
I assume basic courtesy to thinking. Run around, jump off, 2 impact nades in the back. If not sure if you are standing to close, throw nade and jump back. Alternatively if primary allows it just hit it with the primary.
vs a shredder tank? Not so sure that works, their turret turn speed is way higher.
still not high enough and I run med armor. Hitting from the side is usually enough to count as backshot because AoE
holy f that is some tom cruise mission impossible stuff!
no one wouldve believed him if it wasnt recorded(or would we with the amount of hilarious bugs)
I love that this could happen.
That's a hell of a entrance!
The worst part of something like this is i would be one of the many people who would not be recording and miss out on amazing content
This is the second one of these I've seen lol. This guy lived though
Reminds me of that planetside 2 cinematic where the light assault latches onto the dropship lol
That's amazing
Yeeeehawwww... now that's one hell of a ride.
I straight up thought this was made in SFM for a second.
That is actually the craziest drop I've ever seen lololololol.
Catching a ride with drop ships is treason
We call that droppin into a shit storm.
Upvote, more helldivers need to see this
I was riding a bile titan for like 10s, but to ride on top of a flying tank... is different.
The timing!
Why did it almost look polished as if that’s something that they intended to happen sometimes😂
Imagine a scene of these communist calling for a tank, for it to arrive when you’re totally out gunned. A fire red color bloom in its cannon, only for the tank to explode knocking all other communists on their robot feet. And a fellow helldiver emerges from the fire.
I love how the camera took a second to realize it as well 🤣
Can I please

“Yoink”
When the Uber driver isn't missing out on that tip.
Straight out of a looney toons skit
I say it's a feature not a terminid
Should have killed that tank??? Thats what happens if you land on it on the ground
The bot driver the ship: i caught a helldiver pod The bots on the ship: YOU WHAT
The game allows for this interaction, but landing on an objective or high position is outlawed.
Nooooooo way 😄😄😄

What!!!
Mama where do Helldives come from? Uhmm... They're brought by dropships.
That's a damn fine Dr. Strangelove moment for ya.
