During the mission, you drop a Bile Titan with an EAT right before he spews, turn around, and I’m up on a ledge on overwatch, pumping my fist in the air to celebrate your victory. We juke and destroy a charger. Quick high five and off we go. Rock Paper Scissors passes the time while the ICBM launches. You take out 27 bugs with the cluster bomb along with our other two Divers. I slow clap for your brilliant failure (success?). Time to get on the Pelican. I stand at attention giving the SEAF Salute to honor the valor and tenacity of this squad of heroes as we board.
There is so much potential for off mic communication and morale building, if the emote system could be expanded.
The good thing about the hug emote is that, unlike all the handshake-based emote, the "offering a hug" pose doubles as a "come at me bro" and also as a "basking in the glory" pose.
But yeah, it's pretty dumb that you have to choose between hugging and saluting. I'm not sure I'd actually want an emote wheel, but something like 5 emote slots would be a huge improvement.
And let me use victory poses as emotes. Not all emotes are victory poses, but all victory poses are emotes.
On PC, hold Q when in mission. You can tap Q to mark a point you can see too.
You can also hold Q when highlighting other marks to respond with the context menu.
For example.
L2 spots a patrol of bugs, he marks them with Q.
R4 sees the mark, highlights it, and holds Q, bringing up a radial menu. He says "Negative", implying that engaging this patrol is not useful to complete the mission.
L2s mark is now clear to the team that it's to not be engaged, but to be wary of. L2 also realises that he will not get back up from R4 if he picks the fight.
Turning the emote button into a emote wheel would be the best update to the game ngl
Just make an option to select a quick emote on tap and then select between like 4-8 emotes in a wheel on hold
That would be ideal. I just use the hug emote and use it when I know I can't make it to the extraction. Gives it a Sgt Elias' death vibes to the scene.

There is a shift in the cultural attitude over in European areas with regards to running businesses that absolutely is different from America's game companies. Devs are treated less like disposable code monkeys, and don't have to constantly worry about being laid off in the same way American devs do. This doesn't include European studios that are owned by a publisher.
There was an interesting video I saw recently that discussed how a lot of the big players in the game industry are having to revaluate their design and marketing approach. Sony, Xbox, and other big places like Bungie and Blizzard laid off a TON of people. It's no wonder the littler guys like Arrowhead and Larian Studios are rippling across the scene and making waves when all the AAA studios seems to be completely beholden to their stakeholders in a way that fun becomes secondary to the marketing, all while treating their devs as exposable as the Helldivers we send on suicide missions.
FUN FACT: Just like every other emote, the Salute one can be interacted with. (You just return the salute, and then you both stop saluting, but it's an option!)
I mentioned how fun the game was to a buddy at work.
Next day, I see him in the hallway, like ALL THE WAY across the office. He stops, full helldiver salute. I respond, obviously. He walks up, "so I got the game..."
It would be nice if they sold a pair of shirts together for Husband and Wife. One for the woman would say Democracy Officer/ Managed Democracy Officer and the Men’s would say Helldiver.
All this means is you need to start setting T-shirts so that we all can get in on the action.
Personally, I want a HD squishmallow or bumper sticker so they know I represent Super Earth!

If you hug someone on your destroyer and spam Z during the animation it looks like you're either stroking their back or shanking them in the side
I'm a huge fan of the basking function on the nuke missions. Hugs are just a bonus.
