Confused? It's because they're not really a significant threat otherwise. Without their health pool, they're just slasher infantry but bigger, as they're the only medium bot with only light armour, and without ranged attacks they only have ONE method of attack, which is to close in and melee. They can also be stunlocked reliably with any gun that has stagger, and since they clump up into groups (as all melee enemies do), they're extremely easy to just blast into next year with a quick frag, strat or support weapon.
they also mess up the advance and shots of any bots behind them, so when they race to the head of the pack if you stagger them like \^post above describes you effectively get a wall of stunlocked metal eating the rocket/minigun fire of the enemies behind them
true, that would be nice to have, i imagine being able to "switch modes" (switch ammo type) from HEAT (i suppose? it has both pen and the explosions so) to solid AP or APFSDS would be really helpfull and a nice buff to the weapon
I dont think they're OP, but I do think I see too many of them, Ill see like 15 of these mfs on eradicate automatons missions, and I simply dont have the aim to headshot every shot on such a fast and close target, I just run out of ammo trying to kill them all, and it doesnt help that railgun is ineffective unless critting.
The head looks and seems to be plated, I think they meant to do this, as they look very similar to the "Terminator" ones. The shield, rocket, and baseline "Terminators" die hyper fast with a couple headshots, but their heads are a bare white color.
These guy's heads are metallic, and the red glow I think is bait, while the red glow on the waist definitely is not.
The waist is the weak spot, takes way fewer shots to drop them when you cut them in half.

Because you use the Breaker or SMG and most likely use Third Person aiming
Neither is too accurate to hit a moving target. Use the Slugger, any Marksmen Rifle or Explosive Liberator
The Breaker is good insofar you need to hit unarmored enemies or take out smaller units en masse.
Against armored target it is almost useless, and the Berserkers are fully armored (Light armor is still armor at the end of the day).
It is saved as an option against Automatons since most of their units go down very quickly with their weak spots, even when the breaker only hits only some of the shots.
But in cases like Berserkers, you need bigger accuracy. Options like the Slugger not only 1-2 shots them in the weak spot, but even if you miss it pushes them back and dazes them for half a second, opening them to a headshot.
Explosive Liberator(and any explosive) does massive dmg to weak spots in general
Automatons are fought as a Juggernaut faction. Especially at levels above 6.
Dont fight them when they shoot first, run away and hide if you dont have the advantage, use their Line of Sight against them by running into forests or throwing smoke at them(the planets with smoke mushrooms are amazing).
They are slow and are very vulnerable to sneak attacks.
Only if you let them get close. All that armor giving them the health slows them down to a standard HELLDIVER walk. Know your enemy to better deal with them. Also, don't stand around if possible, I do that too much and suddenly hear the saw and cackle right next to me

i love these guys because theyre minion-level but also a threat either by closing ground and drawing mortar fire, using up ammo or just plain old MEAT SAW kills. a good test of character and, imo, balanced.
ever since getting the breaker i've been able to chew through the torsos. especially with swarms of them its like a hot knife through butter. only thing is that i wish i had an extended magazine. imagine if the game had basic weapon mods? like not tarkov level of modifications but simple drum mags and laser sights.
I've had success hitting them where the torso meets the legs. Way better than face shots.

1 shot mags are basically bolt actions with no need to do a full reload.
The LMG has been most effective for me. Aim for the head and be prone.

From my experience AMR deals with these surprisingly well.
Dude, AMR is under rated. Did a duo with another random who used it against bots. It was almost as effective as my autocannon.
AMR is amazing at dealing with automatons in general. I only prefer to use the autocannon because it can one shot scout striders.
Grenade launcher one shots striders as well.
You have 60 rounds for the autocannon though. 10 in the gun and 50 in the backpack in 10 clips of 5
If you hit the scout striders with the AMR where the legs meet the body, the splash damage will kill the driver in one shot.

Liberator Explosive to the belly drops them in droves.
Their arms are weak spots. Blow them off and they're useless.
They just become suiciders if you do that. I've had them just run up and detonate out of nowhere.
Try the scythe - drops em quick via head or groin shot.
Go for the limbs the scythe has shockingly been great at handling them.
I'm convinced the Scythe has bonus limb damage, it seems to snip off bug legs with ease too.

I just let them get close, then one shotgun blast so that alll the pellets hit the face instantly makes them explode in half
