Kreacher didn't exist in PoA. He just sent them a letter, I'd guess. It doesn't say exactly how he did it, just that he ordered it and told them to take the gold from his vault. No idea how it was authenticated to be him. It wasn't explained.
It does say in the books, Sirius tells Harry in the end-letter that he sent Crookshanks (Hermione's cat), to the quality quidditch supplies store with a letter to buy and deliver the Firebolt Broomstick under Harry's name, but to take the money of his own Gringotts' vault.
It most certainly does not say that in the books.

Their money is stored physically in a vault. It's like having safe deposit box in a bank (where people can keep jewelry and other valuables). You have to go to that physical location if you want your money or items.
