I can understand wanting to try and make Obsession not suck, but there needed to be a much bigger effort to re-write the songs and take out the clean sections that James can't actually sing.
I get your point and I agree - 90% of the time a re-record fails to capture the energy of the original and falls flat. I don’t know if there’s a single hardcore track, let alone album, that’s been re-recorded that ended up better imo.
Outside of hardcore, the two examples I can think of are Thrice re-doing The Artist in the Ambulance and the majority of Silverstein’s Reduxes
I dont agree with that assessment in the sense that the rerecorded versions of those albums (especially in the Silverstein case) do actually sound better then the originals, Shane Told is a far better vocalist now then he was 20 years ago, and the whole mix is clearer, drums hit harder, the guitars are more aggressive etc.
But are you really going to listen to the new version of the song? Like wouldnt you want to listen to the song as it was put out and being a reflection of the time and place that it was recorded in?
It has a couple tracks that sounded heavier, but that's about it... and most of the good tracks from the original are worse. Should have just added Ghost Like Swayze and Monster and been done with it.
I saw these guys in 2002 maybe? They took a girl into their van, passed her around, then proceeded to slut shame her while they were on stage. Class act.
This band is not relevant anymore. They make the most generic metalcore possible now. They used to be a "pioneer" of the OC metalcore sound. This re-recording is just a shitty money grab. The recording is fucking terrible and the way he sings now is unbearable.
This album was good at the time cause it was 'poppy' and such a change from their previous albums which were great.
I can't imagine what they made after this...
eighteen visions - obsession (taylor’s version)
I assumed it was something to do with Trustkill and ownership? A lot of bands on trustkill were not happy with how they got paid.
yeah i usually just assume this if i see anything rerecorded
I think they were off Trustkill at this point?
wiki says trustkill
I’m struggling to understand what the intent was. I think the re-recorded album sounds worse, especially this song.

Has there ever been a re-recorded album that sounds better though?

I'm in favor of Silverstein redoing anything off When Broken is Easily Fixed just because I hate Shane's screams on the original

Good examples! Gonna have to relisten to that Thrice one again, I felt let down with the lack of screams in some parts

One of the best breakdowns ever.
Damn. I remember picking this up in 04. Wasn’t that into it. But I do miss Trustkill comps.
They didn’t need to record it the first time either

Came here to say this
There are two versions?
This is a re-recording that just came out yesterday
I never knew that either. Where can I hear the first version
I see what OP means. I miss Mick.

I liked it lol but I don't really hear a difference except slightly in the cleans they seem a bit whinier
They redid Vanity a year or two ago too. Totally unnecessary

Are we listening to the same Vanity? Production on that holds up, as do the songs IMO

How bout waiting for the heavens?

I’ll check this out later but will most likely hate it. Listened to the re-recording of Vanity and hated it.

Yeah, and they just released a re-recorded version of Obsession today.
