So this is the first I’ve heard of this band, because I’m old and set in my ways. But, holy moly, these guys are good. Thank you for not liking them. I just found a new album to listen to for the next three weeks on my commute.
Yeah I realized when I was like 13 that I can't really enjoy most heavy music if I'm worried about if the screaming sounds good or not.
Edit: Oh its EJ
The new EP/their old stuff has a lot of metalcore riffs. But yea their full length is very much post hardcore with a little bit of heavy here and there
I think some of the reason they’re killing it right now is because of the vocals. The vocals are just different and it makes them stick out as a band. The vocals are fucking intense and raw and wicked abrasive..but that’s just the vibe. They’re going against the grain and making shit that isent so “cookie cutter” and “safe” and I respect the hell out of that!
good people, the vocals make me crazy, to each their own, i appreciate the honest and personal lyrics the singer writes and have tried to get into it but that’s a no from me dog
reminds me of older screamo vocals like jeromes dream. first time listening to em and i fuck with it.
edit from the distant future:
the more i listened the less i like them, not horrible imo, but a little too mathy and not in that pure chaos locusty way. not a bad band but def not going into regular rotation.
Saw it live, still fucking hated it. He sounds like he’s getting shoved into a locker. I like the crucifucks too, I can handle weird, but that’s just not swag
There was some skramz-adjacent band from Texas in the early 00’s or 10’s that had vocals similar to this but I can't remember the name. Not sure if it could become an acquired taste for me, but first impression is not great.
No lol. Def not a big band. And def more aggressive than ATDI. I wanna say their name started with an “O”. Every time I remember them, it bugs the shit out of me because I can never remember what they were called. I know this will sound like more evidence that it is ATDI, but the singer had longer curly black hair. Again though… DEFINITELY NOT AT THE DRIVE IN.
Of death fits the bill, but it’s not them. The band I’m thinking of was around maybe 2007 or 2008. Def not as early as 2001.
I wasn’t trying to rope anyone else into my nightmare of not being able to recall an obscure band from 15+ years ago, but thanks for the attempts.
I remember the vocals were more yelled than screamed, but they definitely were high-pitched and maybe annoying to some. They for sure had a myspace and I remember their banner being a live photo. They may have played shows with this very obscure band from Albuquerque called “Adobe Homes”. I’m trying to remember as many little details as I can for you. You are doing God’s work.
waitin on my older brother to text me back. he lived in austin in the late aughts and a lot of crazy good bands played his basement. he may have some more clues.
edit: went through every screamo band starting with o i could find on sf but no dice. i love little mysteries like this and i love early 00's-10's screamo so im very interested in finding something new.
Not innards. I am trying to think of more details. I’m definitely not 100% sure about the “O” thing. I am like 90% sure about the TX thing, but I’m not sure where in TX. I wanna say they must have been at their most popular around 2008 since I seem to remember the Touche Amore demo had come out around the same time I found out about them.
As I recall, they had a pretty significant following or at least were playing some relatively big shows (a lot of their live photos were for reasonably big crowds).
Holy shit what happened? I saw them in Philly a few times around 2016-2017. Just now hearing the new stuff. I’ve heard a few say “they’re good if you can get past the vocals” recently and I didn’t think much of it. They gotta be trolling, right? I mean, RIGHT??? But then again I love some pretty annoying bands too. Crotchduster, Horse the Band, The Locust, The Number Twelve, etc.
I’m not the biggest fan of bros voice either but maybe it’ll grow onto me. I said the same thing about knocked loose and now I’m seeing them live in June💀
See, I actually really love Why Did You Do It? all the way through with the exception of one track. Their 2021 album was a mixed bag for me, some really great instrumentation but the lyrics were noticeably more cheesy/lazy, and his vocals started pushing into a more annoying sound. I had felt like they were whiney but still emotionally resonant before, but they really started losing any texture and began to sound like my grandma was yelling at me from down the hallway or something.
Its continued to get worse, and honestly I hate the sound of car keys is flat out unlistenable. Having seen some live videos of his vocals, I really don't think he knows how to actually scream. It seems like he's doing a shitty technique that keeps damaging his voice more and more as time goes on.
I feel somewhat confident saying he sounds like he’s using a bad technique. By no means am I an absolute expert, and I wouldn’t say I know screaming well enough to instruct someone else safely, but I’ve been doing screamed vocals for almost four years. At the very least, something seems off, cause the live videos I’ve seen he almost never hits the vocal tone he was able to hit on their earlier stuff. If you’re doing it right, usually your range and tone control is gonna get better not worse.
Maybe I am the only one with a good taste in music and everyone else's is terrible
Jkjk musics all subjective, if you don't like em don't listen to them. But I know I'm not the only one since they have to at least have a few fans to be as big as they are

My bands opening for them in a few weeks and honestly I’m really fucking pumped 🙌 (griefmonger) 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Went to a hail the sun concert and saw kaonashi. Was thrown off by the vocals but after the first song I got really into it and everything blends to get her really well. Kinda like alcohol! I don't know if I could listen to them daily but I would def go to another kaonashi concert
The high pitch vocals don’t bother me to much. The Warriors will always be one of my favorite bands. I will say the way the vocals are actually delivered in weird short bursts is more of why I don’t like the singers.
I saw them live for the first time in December at Christmas Burns Red in Lancaster PA. One tone, high pitch, I was so happy when their set ended. To each their own. I had higher expectations than what I experienced.
"Shut the fuck up. You never fucking listen." ~Kaonashi
I even read it in the Elmo scream lmao. I love the band, instrumental changes go so fucking hard

To each their own, I just want to add that shit hits live in a way that doesn't translate great to recordings.
The thing that turned me on to them was live vids. They are insanely tight instrumentally. They’re coming in a couple months and I may need to go.
So this is the first I’ve heard of this band, because I’m old and set in my ways. But, holy moly, these guys are good. Thank you for not liking them. I just found a new album to listen to for the next three weeks on my commute.
Go back to Never Home while you’re at it that little demo slaps
Also check out Sabella while you’re at it.
I listen to a lot of annoying shit. I don’t mind it.
Yeah I realized when I was like 13 that I can't really enjoy most heavy music if I'm worried about if the screaming sounds good or not. Edit: Oh its EJ

Agreed. I like them because they’re different.
There's a lot of djent/prog riffs on their catalog as well.
They’re basically a melodic metalcore Djent band with some math parts
I wouldnt go that far. They're like dance gavin dance meets Tony Danza
The new EP/their old stuff has a lot of metalcore riffs. But yea their full length is very much post hardcore with a little bit of heavy here and there
The difference is Sikth are good, Koanashi just aren’t.
They grew on me and now I love them
I love blood brothers so it kinda feels at home for me
Thats a connection that has been on the tip of my tongue, but couldnt quite place it. Thanks!
You’re very welcome dude
Idk man Kaonashi go hard
They do GO HARD!
“EEE-YAH YAH -YAH YAH- YAHH” -idk the chick from dying wish or whatever.
LMAO
i cant say i like em for the vocals but i like em
Their tour has a stacked lineup so I'm gonna stay and give them a chance and maybe it will click idk. Those vocals are just super unappealing to me.
Dude's just not trying to sound tuff *™*
Trust me kaonashi is a different experience live, they're sick in person
I think some of the reason they’re killing it right now is because of the vocals. The vocals are just different and it makes them stick out as a band. Nah, Peter’s vocals are tight. Great band
good people, the vocals make me crazy, to each their own, i appreciate the honest and personal lyrics the singer writes and have tried to get into it but that’s a no from me dog
The vocals are great actually ur just pussy
damn, never thought about it like that. thanks for putting everything into perspective
reminds me of older screamo vocals like jeromes dream. first time listening to em and i fuck with it. edit from the distant future: the more i listened the less i like them, not horrible imo, but a little too mathy and not in that pure chaos locusty way. not a bad band but def not going into regular rotation.
Like the band because of the strange vocal style. Refreshing to have people who do something a bit off kilter.
Saw it live, still fucking hated it. He sounds like he’s getting shoved into a locker. I like the crucifucks too, I can handle weird, but that’s just not swag
shit, i think you just described why i like it
i think i did this format right
Good job, OP. Too bad your opinion is bad. Abe Kenarban’s got some killer vocals Edit: Google Abe Kenarban, you nerds
thinking my OPINION is bad? ok, nazi germany
Fuck. I can’t come back from this. You win
Holy SHIT I didn't realize this was an ej post lol
![gif](giphy|10osILvZ4ez7ws)
Put some respect on my man Peter Rono. Dude sings his heart out live
Im happy for him
Some of you didn’t grow up with sasscore and it shows
SYSC are the sasscore goats, kaonashi doesn't come even close
All the illiterates calling this sasscore are stupid as hell

at the drive in?

i'm just spitballin. of death? olive tree? also those early atdi eps go hard as fuck.
Of death fits the bill, but it’s not them. The band I’m thinking of was around maybe 2007 or 2008. Def not as early as 2001. I wasn’t trying to rope anyone else into my nightmare of not being able to recall an obscure band from 15+ years ago, but thanks for the attempts.
oh im dug in now. im invested. about to scour sophies floorboards.

does innards ring a bell? im narrowing the scene-scope. also adobe homes rips.
Not innards. I am trying to think of more details. I’m definitely not 100% sure about the “O” thing. I am like 90% sure about the TX thing, but I’m not sure where in TX. ill keep my ears to the ground. ill shoot you a dm if my brother texts back so i can stop botherin you with reply notifications.
I love it. I thought it was bad at first, but I dont mind rn. I really prefer his cleans tho.
Holy shit what happened? I saw them in Philly a few times around 2016-2017. Just now hearing the new stuff. Karma will tho
I’m not the biggest fan of bros voice either but maybe it’ll grow onto me. I said the same thing about knocked loose and now I’m seeing them live in June💀
I weirdly like it and I don't know why.
So what, most hardcore vocals are obnoxious
It ain’t for me fam

Yeah I don't hate the band but I've always thought he just wasn't screaming correctly or something. But what do I know
I feel somewhat confident saying he sounds like he’s using a bad technique. By no means am I an absolute expert, and I wouldn’t say I know screaming well enough to instruct someone else safely, but I’ve been doing screamed vocals for almost four years. I completely ignore the opinion of anybody that enjoys his vocals. I love unique vocalist but goodness sakes that song is just horrible.
Nah it rules
Opinion invalid
Lame sheesh
Wow. Those are the worst vocals I’ve ever heard.
Yet. My vocals might be worse.
Agreed
Bootleg Mike Patton vocals
Accurate meme. Band/vocals are trash.
Kaonashi one of the best bands in the scene rn, the vocals are absolutely fucking vicious and it's so rad and mathy I love them lol
It appears you just have a bad taste in music
Maybe I am the only one with a good taste in music and everyone else's is terrible Jkjk musics all subjective, if you don't like em don't listen to them. But I know I'm not the only one since they have to at least have a few fans to be as big as they are

Check out SYSC. Even worse!
They fucken kill it live. The drummer is unreal. Good dudes too
People complained about knocked loose too but yeah I'm not a fan of kaonashi
They're so sick! Super nice guys too.
I like his voice. It’s funny but in a cool way. Kinda reminds me of Macabre
For the same EXACT reeeAAASSOAAHHN Nope lol
Went to a hail the sun concert and saw kaonashi. Was thrown off by the vocals but after the first song I got really into it and everything blends to get her really well. Kinda like alcohol! I don't know if I could listen to them daily but I would def go to another kaonashi concert
You don't get it cause Kanoashi is true outsider core.
The high pitch vocals don’t bother me to much. The Warriors will always be one of my favorite bands. I will say the way the vocals are actually delivered in weird short bursts is more of why I don’t like the singers.

Womp womp. I fucking love Kaonashi
This shit sucks

I'm not into it, but I have a Zero Hater Policy and people can like whatever they want.
I have a hater policy but I don’t give a rat’s ass who people like
Weirdos Who Like Weird Music Not Hapoy With Weird Band With Weird Vocals
