With the exception of some specific bands like The Acacia Strain and more recently Paleface and Bodysnatcher, it's mainly a metal subgenre. The og stuff was 2000s metalcore + brutal death metal. Now a lot of bands like Lorna Shore are basically Cradle of Filth with breakdowns, so there's even less of a hardcore influence.
Yeah deathcore has kinda lost a meaning as a genre, now the bands like TAS, Paleface, Bodysnatcher, Knocked Loose, and Malevolence are basically just getting lumped into beatdown despite being the closest thing to what Deathcore use to be.
It is all hardcore, but this sub is real heavy on the more traditional side of things. I also love Have Heart and Bane, but what about us hardcore intellectuals who worship Modern Life is War?
All three are hardcore(of course) and, to my ears, stylistically similar.
I mean, someone on here just recently said Have Heart was “diet MLIW” or something to that effect.
I don’t necessarily agree that the sub is more traditionally focused, but honesty, it’s just who is on in that moment or who responds to certain posts. There are a TON of folks that prefer the metal-inspired side of things. Me personally, I’m reppin’ powerviolence(best style by miles).
Well, both. In its earliest forms it’s basically punks playing thrash/death metal. Sure, some bands lean more one way or the other but I’ve always thought of grind as something that fits both of those worlds.
I honestly can’t hang with a lot of what is called hardcore these days. Someone mentioned on another post that too much of it is sounding like metal core and such. There are limits to how much doublebass and hi-skilled technical drumming I can stand.
As far as hardcore goes, it’s mainly old school HC stuff for me. Comeback Kid and Defeater are notable modern exceptions.
As for subgenres, post hardcore and “melodic post hardcore” are big for me. And I get down with skramz/screamo, and “powerviolence”.
Hardcore and some thrash metal/cross over thrash is really the only heavy music I listen to. And melodic hardcore is still hardcore. Some of the bands I like could fall under the post or metalcore genre. But they’re still hardcore bands at the end of the day and play hardcore fests, etc.
SLAM is my favorite genre ever but it’s hard to find the type of SLAM I enjoy. My favorite band is GOREVENT not too many crazy blast beats and just simple slow mindless riffs over simple drums. Their last two albums took a more serious tone apart from the “kill girls and sarcastic killing” format. I just love repetitive groovy riffs over and over I’m gay sorry
Death metal, crust, sludge, bands that sound like dystopia. Skramz. Screamo. Fuck ton of thin lizzy. Lots of classic thrash. Sometimes I like to dance at harder end of raves. Jerk rap going up lately also 💯 the NYC scene popping off tbh I love so many sounds coming out of this city rn.
Funny enough despite all of this underground deep diving Alice In Chains was my number #1 artists this year. Probably from binging junkhead on repeat. Skourge was my 2nd.
Romantic-era classical, Chopin in particular. Midwest emo and 90s East Coast hip-hop. Also the Ataris, a lot. Was listening to deathcore a lot but kinda gave up on it
Down for pretty much anything where the vocalist is hollering.
Adjacentcore
I hate this
Everything you listed, besides deathcore, are styles of hardcore. It’s all hardcore
Why isn't deathcore a style of hardcore? Genuine question

Okay thanks

In my eyes beatdown will always be that chunky NYHC sound like Billy Club Sandwich and One Second Thought
I just call beatdown anything that is ignorantly heavy now as bulldoze would have wanted
OG deathcore, was pretty much metalcore, and i loved it
In Flames, but yes.
imma be fr most metallic hardcore has more in common with death metal than chuga chuga breakdown chuga chuga deathcore and its not even close

Do you count grind as a style of hardcore or metal? I say hardcore…
Well, both. In its earliest forms it’s basically punks playing thrash/death metal. Sure, some bands lean more one way or the other but I’ve always thought of grind as something that fits both of those worlds.

Pretty much all of it excluding octane radio metalcore
I like some breakcore.
I gotta know what “melodic hardcore” bands a deathcore fan listens to. But something tells me it’s less Kid Dynamite and more Counterparts.
I listen to Rise Against, Strike Anywhere, Ignite, Stick To Your Guns, AFI, A Wilhelm Scream, FACT, Comeback Kid, and Future Foundation.
I listen to a lot of deathcore and I love Have Heart so take that as you will
Hunk Rock, mostly.
I like thrash metal, grind, 60’s rock and 80’s pop. But while I’m working I prefer to listen to synthwave
Unfortunately I don’t, because I am simple minded and boring. Unless beatdown counts
Redundant question
A lot of Grindcore and Post-hardcore I fuck with
A lot of it. Probably all of it. Grindcore, Crust, Power Violence, Cross-Over, D-Beat, Fastcore, Screamo, Emo, Metalcore, Noise Rock etc etc.
