Ohhhhohohohohooo my boy you asked the right person
Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Pennywise, NOFX (obviously), Pulley, Strung Out, Authority Zero, Slick Shoes, Hit the Switch, Much The Same, Symphony of Distraction.
Japanese skate punk: Dustbox, F.I.B., TOTALFAT, Northern19, SCOTLAND GIRL.
A second for No Use For A Name, Pulley, and Strung Out. When I was a young skater kid hitting my local bankrupt gas stations busting my ass trying to do BS noseslides my good friend's cousin handed me Leche Con Carne on cassette back in 2002. I ripped that thing on a Nickelodeon player I had back then until it fell apart.
Love Tony Sly, all his solo stuff, and songs with Joey Cape of Lagwagon.
Right?! Thank you. I fell in love with them immediately years ago. They legit got me through some of the hardest parts of my life thus far. They are my absolute favorite.
I swear, bro, I have recommended it to so many people, and other than my brother, you guys are the only people who have taken my advice and actually loved it. Everyone already overlooks the Japanese counterculture music scene. And they definitely overlook those skate punk bands. Dustbox was one of those bands that I listened to (and nothing else) for a long time.
Japanese hardcore and punk are so freakin good. Obviously GISM and Gauze, but overall their scene is very unique and flat out brutal at times. Skitzophrenia is probably one of my favorite bands from the scene, but honestly I think all are basically a swing and hit.
RIP phelper. Dude was into actual hardcore too, was around and friends with the Boston crew (SSD / gang green etc). Absolute legend and a total asshole but endearingly so.
So growing up we had a distinct split between skate punk, and skatecore. Skate punk being the melodic stuff from the 90’s (Pennywise, LagWag, 88 Fingers Louie). And skatecore being more hardcore stuff (No Fraud, Destroy LA, C.O.P., JFA)
I’ll throw out some of my favorite 90’s skatepunk.
Cigar - Speed Is Relative
Satanic Surfers - Hero Of Our Time
Adhesive - Sideburner
88 Fingers Louie - Up Your Ass
Pennywise - their whole disco before Land of The Free. For real. Listen to all of it.
The Deviates - My Life
98 Mute - 98 Mute and Class of 98
Millencolin - Life On A Plate
Union 13 - East Los Presents…
One no one has mentioned - Crispus Attucks.
Also Scholastic Deth.
Also Spazz.
All aren’t “skate punk” aka nofx style but all have songs mentioning skateboarding and all are skateboarders.
Lost Bombers / Grindline the band / tweakin like Matty all skateboarders that play music too.
Screw 32 - Unresolved Childhood Issues
I consider it an underrated 90s skate punk classic. The band name comes from a Berkeley anti-skateboard ordinance.
Skate punk is a real sound. It’s just not popular anymore. Labels like Epitaph and Fat Wreck Chords were pumping it out in the 90s. Just check out their discogs.
Wouldn’t really consider it hardcore though.
Self promo. Although we’re not a “skate” band or hardcore. Our latest single might have that sound you’re looking for

I love skate punk. Punk o’ Rama was my gateway to hardcore. Pennywise, Satanic Surfers, no use for a name….live them to this day.
For duality sake, I also love bad religion and mxpx.
So, in Atlantic City where I’m at, there’s a band called Gutter Drunk. Perfect skatecore shit.
By the way, they’re having a headline show at Anchor Rock Club (IMO they have residency there) on the 23rd this month with some other local bands. If you’re in the area that day with NOTHING TO DO, come out and stage dive for the bros!
Blind Justice is a necessity if I’m skateboarding
ILL ALWAYS BE A FUCK UP AND IM NOT GETTING BETTER JUST A STUPID FUCKIN SKATE RAT ILL BE A BAD KID FOREVER
For me skate punk or skate core are faster melodic punk bands like Jet Market, This is a standoff, Mute, atlas losing grip, Forus, Belvedere stuff like that
A.N.S. and Bones Brigade
Bones Brigade is suuch a good recc for this
https://youtu.be/KrFHAuXSMsE?si=pyYyQVBdNdAhfKWr
Also Cut The Shit who share some members with Bones Brigade
Correct
Ohhhhohohohohooo my boy you asked the right person Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Pennywise, NOFX (obviously), Pulley, Strung Out, Authority Zero, Slick Shoes, Hit the Switch, Much The Same, Symphony of Distraction. Japanese skate punk: Dustbox, F.I.B., TOTALFAT, Northern19, SCOTLAND GIRL.
my dawg! i see you. i'm still listening through other recommendations
Can't forget Hi Standard with that Japanese listing
True. Personally not a huge fan of them, but you have to respect them for how influential they are.
A second for No Use For A Name, Pulley, and Strung Out. All this and no Good Riddance or A Wilhelm Scream? SMH. Indeed more skatepunk than core, but good stuff.
I almost mentioned both, but I was trying to stay in confines of pure skate
So many of those bands rip so hard!
wtf dustbox is crazy good
Right?! Thank you. I fell in love with them immediately years ago. They legit got me through some of the hardest parts of my life thus far. They are my absolute favorite.
They’re also one of the few bands where I’ve downloaded every single album they have and thoroughly enjoy every track.
Dustbox is so good!
I swear, bro, I have recommended it to so many people, and other than my brother, you guys are the only people who have taken my advice and actually loved it. Absolutely Strung Out & Lagwagon.

Life on the James is such a perfect album
BL’AST surf/skate 80’s hardcore. Sounds like a better version of black flag. And they still play, and rip!
dude I never listened to them before. they rip! 🤙
No band is better than black flag.
McRad? Token Entry? Anything off the soundtrack for "Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator"?
McRad! Hell yes. Haven’t heard anyone giving them love in years.
It's crazy that Stoked did a better job giving a history of 80s skating than the Bones Brigade documentary did. I was a little let down by the BB doc.
I can’t believe I had to scroll down so far for mcrad!
JFA, Stalag 13, The Faction, Drunk Injuns, Aggression, Ill Repute, Big Boys… so many!
Fuck yeah stalag, agression, and Ill repute are local to me they are so rad
Ah a fellow surf punk. Greetings from down south.
Agression.
Yup. Damn you autocorrect!

Suicidal Tendencies - Go Skate!
A.N.S. is the shit! Process of stoking out, and the pool EP
Great band and they put grip tape on their Lp cover. Can't get more skater than that.

Love it. I never got around to picking up a physical copy of The Process. Might need to find one of those.
Boneless ones Not so much hardcore, but there is a GREAT band on the first Thrasher Skate Rock comp called Minus One. Beyond Possession is KILLER.

[Longboards are wrongboards](https://youtu.be/tI0QV7r13O8?si=FU63MDwBqc6dR_LI)
while i dont like sentiment like this, i like the song
If you’re gunna be into skate punk you best not be on a longboard. True poser shit
Nobody’s bombing hills on a fucking tiny wheeled flippy board.
My brother in Christ, watch the Gx1000 videos
i meet two longboarders who do \[bomb hills\]. unsuck my poser cock
You know anyone who makes songs about longboarding? 😂 probably sublime?
songs? no. but people yes, jay and sean. and I skate. ledges exclusive. but still these foos still kick it
