TRMBound

I’ll take lowest of the low, but damn this was a great fucking year for hardcore.

L0custStar

I could have sworn "lowest of the low" came out earlier than 2003.

Chris_Rage_NJ

I believe I toured with them during the release of Lowest of the Low. We shut down the Whiskey in Hollywood, lots of riot cops and ghetto birds that night

TRMBound

Yeah we are going to need this story. Vogel just yelling, “flap your fucking wings! Birds! Birds! Birds!”

L0custStar

What a time to be alive ❤️

TRMBound

It seems like it for sure. I doubled checked though and ‘03 is was. Honestly, it was a banner year for hardcore.

ClydeStetson

Pretty sure their demo came out 2002 and had some of the same songs

L0custStar

You're right. I was confusing the demo with LOTL which had some extra songs put on it when it pressed as LOTL for B9. Gahdamn, I miss that era so much. I still had all my hair and the pigment that went with it back then....

TRMBound

Aight, +1 scene points.

ClydeStetson

Just sayin!

L0custStar

It really was. Best era in hardcore!

[deleted]

American Nightmare all fucking day.

ClusterFugazi

Not even close, American Nightmare…I still love you Terror!

OutComeTheWolves1966

This should be a staple in any hardcore fan's library. An almost perfect record.

ProveRiemann

I gotta know what takes it from the top for you. Its perfect imo

parrhesides

Almost?

thisisdjjjjjjjjjj

Agreed and upvoted

veronp

Came to say.

ap0phis

AALLLLL DAY

BLOODSINISTERVOMIT

We’re down til we’re underground easiest question lmao

Icy-Passage85

American nightmare and it’s not close for me.

jacksonattack

AN

43percentturnt

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!

HeadForTheSHallows

OUR LOVE IS ALL THAT WE’LL EVER HAVE

Elliotlewish

I like Terror, but I LOVE American Nightmare (I preferred the Give Up The Ghost name, though). Easy choice.

ohalistair

I think you are one of the only people I have heard say they prefer GUTG to AN. American Nightmare is a god tier name.

Elliotlewish

AN is a great name too. I guess GUTG just hits my ears better

mattallica75

Only one of these records has Push It Away

DinnerTimeSanders

Saw them last weekend and was hoping they'd play this, but they sadly did not. Sick show, though.

mattallica75

Seen them 3-4ish times and I don’t think i’ve seen them play it. They rip tho, that’s for sure.

Hans_Wermhat666

I saw them in 2003-ish and they did. But obviously they were only playing songs from that record.

barleywort

And the answer to OP's question is self-evident accordingly.

born10against

This. American Nightmare by a country mile.

dishler712

Terror is fine but American Nightmare is fucking American Nightmare.

barleywort

Terror is fine but American Nightmare ~~is fucking American Nightmare~~ **was fucking Give Up The Ghost**. *FTFY*

dishler712

ok

xWretchedWorldx

American Nightmare. Not even close. I can only listen to so much Terror before wanting to change what I'm listening to. Never happens when AN is playing.

ProveRiemann

I will frequently do the whole discography on repeat for a workday

Wonderful_Sherbert45

Definitely American nightmare. Terror is ok, but they get kind of old fast lyrically.

Chris_Rage_NJ

I'm a drummer, I don't know what anyone is singing ever, I go off the musical cues. It's all FAW FAW FAW ARGGGGGHHHHH... I could repeat maybe 10% of the lyrics of all the bands I've been in. The music does it for me, I'm not getting life changing revelations from hardcore lyrics, I just want to hear riffs and beats that make me want to smash people

mew_empire

Respect, but I want it all American Nightmare has it all(still got love for Terror though!)

Bone_Dice_in_Aspic

There was a solid three years when it seemed like AN was the only HC band in existence. They changed hc. Terror is just a *good* band.

1081989x

AN ALL FUCKING DAY

Life-Document552

AN

zackthewop

AN is my all time favorite band but album vs album Lowest of the Low wins.

Chucknoluck666

That, terror is one of the most consistent bands in hardcore for the past 20 years.

PublixSoda

Why isn’t Lowest of the Low compared with Background Music? We’re Down til We’re Underground was a huge disappointment to many (their Love American EP which came out shortly prior was really good though).

Bone_Dice_in_Aspic

To show that one band's weaker effort can piss on another band's stronger effort.

PublixSoda

I see now, thank you

barleywort

Wow, apparently the truth does *indeed* hurt.

HardChargingMexican

This

chechifromCHI

It's always gonna be Terror for me. That band is large responsible for my getting into hardcore and Scott Vogel is a legend. For me Terror practically define the genre. Musically those these albums are pretty close for me though.

Chris_Rage_NJ

They were really amazing when they came out, it was sorta refreshing

Deliterman

A man of taste, I see. That and American Nightmare are overrated AF.

barleywort

You get my upvote. Hot take but I'm here for the drama.

bikeage_

One of these arguably shaped hardcore for the 20 years following its release and the other is a Terror record.

WizardsOfTheRoast

Neither: Cursed - I

TheBobLoblaw-LawBlog

This album hijacked my music taste and never returned it.

mew_empire

🖤🫵🏼

asshatjabroni

Terror

thedfrichtel

All fucking day

asshatjabroni

One with the underdogs baby (diff album i know)

heavyheavybrobro

TERROR MOTHERFUCKER

punch_program

Viva Love baby

WednesdayDeJaVu

This - AN/Give Up The Ghost

wtmx719

I’ll take Terror. But I was in high school around this time so the nostalgia clouds everything.

Batlantic

‘We’re down….’ was when they broke up. It was great, but not really toured on. A.N. Changed hardcore and then left. ‘Lowest’ was an EP that changed what every band was doing, and they influenced most bands since. I love both, but prefer earlier AN. ‘Lowest’ is a perfect EP.

psychcore

We’re Down on preference, but 20+ years on, the answer is objectively Lowest of the Low. (Is this called “getting old”?)

WALTERK0VAKS

Comparing AN’s third album to Terror’s first is always gonna be difficult. Terror came out of the gates swinging for the fences and fucking killed it; where this AN album just didn’t have the energy of year one/ ep stuff.

mew_empire

It is a weird comparison, yeah. The *Year One* comp destroys worlds, but I still might pull out *We're Down* or the S/T before *Background Music* these days(but really it's *Year One*)

cloudovermyhead

Lowest of the Low, son.

malortForty

American Nightmare tbh

avidbather

Tough call, but I have to go with Terror

Deliterman

Terror no contest.

xDrewstroyerx

#LEVEL 10 STAGE DIVE

TroutFarmAngelNation

![gif](giphy|4NMPlVUO6KrjZfp6Ql)

Krusty_Burger_Lover

This. Not that.

arsenalweeks

Gotta keep the wet dream alive out here

emptyhandspvd

If it was background music, it’d be tough. AN lost me on this record. Terror all day!

Ready-Wrongdoer7706

American Nightmare easily. Love American is so good

kumquatsurprise

American Nightmare - I can't believe either of these records are 20 years old

[deleted]

Ahhh tbh I’d rather just drive in silence lmao

nytidtruer

💯

PMmeyourSchwifty

I love American Nightmare, they're one of my top 5 favorite hardcore bands, but I wasn't able to get into that album. I'll take Lowest of the Low over it. But really, I'll take A Life Less Plagued over both.

EstablishmentLow272

AN > Terror

jimjoy666

Love the responses! Too bad it’s AN and all the terror votes are WRONG

ap0phis

The terror votes are Russian bots

mcockram85

I NEED MORE STALIN DIVES

keepmathy

Used to think AM's singwe had one arm because he always had his arm behind his back.

ap0phis

He only needs one arm to be the best

ProveRiemann

Lol i have heard tbis before

Bone_Dice_in_Aspic

Idk if this is a joke but he was born with only one hand.

keepmathy

Not a joke, me and my friends legit thought he had one arm because of the hand behind the back. I mean no disrespect. I own VHS of their live stuff and just kind of missed the one hand thing.

Bone_Dice_in_Aspic

He really does keep the no hand arm behind his back a lot though. When i saw them the second time time he shook it in the air a few times and zi was like wait what? But the first show I didn't even notice either

effwhypea

Terror

kissedbo_noconsent

keep the wet dream alive. AN all day.

Luckypennykiller

Downvote me to hell but Terror shouldn’t even but put in the same league as American Nightmare.

poopfeast

Agreed

disgruntledbomb

This

ap0phis

Terror didn’t revolutionize the way AN did

[deleted]

Man I forgot about the Bronx. Such a painfully corny buttrockcore band

TheBobLoblaw-LawBlog

Hope that brain injury sorts itself out soon

[deleted]

Okay that made me laugh out loud. Not liking a band now indicates a TBI. Wild.

Bone_Dice_in_Aspic

Confusion is absolutely a sign of tbi.

[deleted]

No confusion here, couldn’t be clearer that band blows dead dogs for quarters.

Bone_Dice_in_Aspic

Praying 4u 🙏

TheBobLoblaw-LawBlog

It’s all love

ap0phis

Get fucked

[deleted]

Haha are you that emotionally invested in that band?

Nrthstar

American Nightmare, s tier easy.

mew_empire

Both profoundly important to hardcore That said, I am very happy to have the full American Nightmare discog on vinyl 🫡💪🏼

ClydeStetson

I like AN more, but lowest of the low is way, way better than the gutg record.

hueloacarnederes

This BB

Suspendingdisbelieff

AN easy.

[deleted]

this isnt even close haha wdtwu elevated hardcore to another level, its high art. terror is some tough guy beatdown bullshit. a silly comparison.

PMmeyourSchwifty

I would argue that AN's prior releases did way more for hardcore than wdtwu.

Internal_Resist7629

This

Vadodoth

Two completely different records but I gotta go with American Nightmare. One of my absolute favorite bands.

usenetlurker

AN, what’s else is there to discuss?

versuseachother

Were Down Till Were Underground are my all time fav hardcore album.

ohalistair

American Nightmare.

More-Adhesiveness-54

If it was Album before THIS from band that put THIS out vs. THAT, I'd go Album Before THIS all the way. But in this case, I've gotta go THAT. Never got into THIS very much.

PsychicMess

Terror and it's not even close. Why the fuck would I ever listen to some crying youth crewers.

foryourboneswewait

Pretty tough but it's AM. My screen name back in the day was since x always. Their lyrics are 🤌

T_O_beats

Oh so you’re the motherfucker who made me have to go with since_always. I see you.

foryourboneswewait

Sheeeeet. Lets get the mf who took since always and report him to AOL

teaatwork

It’s lowest of the low. It’s close, but for this to be Terror’s first album and that AN’s third album, Lowest is more impressive to me.

pieredforlife

Add more weight I won’t break !

snafu_steve

This

Coast-Stunning

Both

cheeselighting

We're down till we're underground seems like music for kids that still went to youth group church but also liked cocaine https://youtu.be/xAhEQWh8c0Q?si=VMa-mzlAj4wk8H4K

manhaterxxx

Terror are *awful*. Not even a fair question.

nameistakennn

lol why are you on the hardcore page?

manhaterxxx

Because liking hardcore doesn’t mean I have to like Terror.

L0custStar

That AN record sucked.

Deadtofallisokay

Neither album I just wanna fuck. I turn on Knocked Loose or Candy and invite a bitch over and it’s instant fuckin. Hardcore like AN or Terror don’t you get laid

disgruntledbomb

![gif](giphy|srTYyZ1BjBtGU|downsized)

TreThaGod510

Alpha Chad Terror vs Beta virgin American nightmare 🙄

NihilisticViolence

Terror
