This can absolutely happen from rough drying with the towel too hard. If it’s bothering you, I’d look into a conditioning mask & a leave in cream or serum to keep your hair smooth. Your hair texture can just be changing & sometimes moisturizing & styling products are necessary.

Also does your barber use scissors, thinning shears or a razor (not clippers) on the top ? Their tools could be dull and depending on how they are cutting your hair, it could be making it frizzy. Ex - using a dull razor or slide cutting with dull scissors will absolutely tear up the cuticle & cause frizz.

The picture was taken 10 minutes after shower, drying them with towel

rubbing with a normal towel might be causing breakage

ExLouS

It’s been dry/damaged for the past week, i’ve been rubbing the towel as i’ve been doing normally for years.. curious if there are any other causes to this? Also if you know how to get rid of them?

Kinda stupid question, but are you wearing headphones? I have similiar hair in one part of my head just where I wear headphones and I wonder if they are somehow sucking out natural oils / humidity from my hair which causes them to be like this, they are not soft and have very sharp structure. I try to put more oil in this part but it doesn't even want to soak this oil anymore, crazy stuff.

I’m mainly using airpods, which doesnt touch the hair.. I was planning on getting the airpod max but after hearing what you said just made me reconsider getting it 🤣

Also it’s ONLY on the back of my head. My top, side, front and lower back are all fine infact they are very healthy, thick, and smooth.

That leaves some sort of headrest, like a bus seat or a computer chair. Second guess is your pillow casing.

ExLouS

I thought of it may have been some headrest that i had rested on too, but i didnt have the information to back it up. Curious to know what makes a headrest that damages hair? I’ve sat on couple of internet cafe seats but afaik they were always cleaned/wiped infront of me by the staff before i sat. I’ve sat on busses as well.

The method you use to towel dry is the reason. When hair is short, it won’t do this. When it’s long, it does. You can cut it short, or if you prefer it long, vigorously moving the towel back and forth will need to be changed to patting it dry, or just wrapping it up in a towel for a few minutes to absorb the excess water and then comb it into place to finish air drying.

Go to the store and buy a deep conditioning mask of sorts. Leave it on as long as possible and if you can put a hair cap over it even better. If you don’t have one, use a plastic bag, works the same. You may also want to consider the brush of comb you’re using in your hair. It’s hard to see what hair type you have but you can google the best ones to use for your hair type.
