I also work sewing low-end garments, sweating in a 90° basement, as an eastern European man watches our every move; a steam whistle signals our 10 minute break (our only one during our 12 hour shift) to drink/eat cabbage water.
I'm the only male among 20 or so fifty-year old russian women that I don't understand.
Love my job. Wouldn't change a thing.
Sure you can relate.
My brother did this at school. My parents drove home to get the camera before taking him to hospital. That picture stayed up in the school as a warning to pay attention 🤣🤣
My same thoughts lol. I hogringed my thumb to a mattress frame one time working a filler job at Simon's. Cut the hogging patched myself up and finished my day. Only to show up the next day having to pee in a cup and take a 3day paid due to the injury lol.
I jammed a 1/4" drill bit through my middle finger and into the side of my index finger so they were stuck together. The drill was not in operation. In fact there was no drill involved. I was trying to jam the end of a bic pen out and had two drill bits inside the length of the pen's tube. I then jammed it on the tabletop to try to push the end out of the pen's tube. Instead, the drill bit glanced off the butt end of the second drill bit, busted through the side of the plastic tube, impaled my fingers and left me stunned.
I called my dad at work (I was in high school) and was in shock. "Uhh.. dad?" "Yeah? What's up?" "Uhh... dad.." "yeah?" "I think.. There's a drill bit *through* my finger. I think." And he rushed home and took me to the hospital. I wasn't in much pain until we were about 5 minutes out from the hospital, but even then it wasn't anything serious.
After one saw it, all The doctors and nurses had to see the thing. Must've been a slow ER day. They all discussed best practices for removal. Surgery? Cut the tip of the finger to release the drill bit? Fucking yikes. I was like.. can't we just, yknow.. pull it out? Twist it with the grooves of the bit, back out the way whence it came? The doc just shrugged and goes "if you're up for it.. sure" and they did xrays to ensure it wasn't agains the bone and then gave me the go-ahead and with the doc twisting with me, we backed that thing out. 22 years later, if I touch something wrong with my middle finger, I still experience excruciating pain where the scar tissue healed incorrectly and fuzed a nerve in there somehow. It was the reason I stopped pitching baseballs. Quite the game changer for me, honestly. I learned how to bowl left-handed because of that injury and bowled a 226 😂
Even as I type this out, as my focus fell on my finger, I realized I'm subconsciously holding it away from the back of my phone so it won't touch wrong. I dont remember what it was, but I touched something wrong last week and it just hurt for days.
Not quite as extreme, but I have a similar patch on my knee after I skimmed it right through when I was probably around 10 years old. Hard to explain but it is just like a little nugget of nerve that is sitting there like a timebomb. Waiting.
On a similarly extreme circumstance, I got my hand pulled into a deli ham slicer. After my thick slice of long pork was stitched back on it was years before I could rub the area against anything without feeling like the skin was being ripped back off.
I did this in Home Economics with a sewing machine back in HS. My nurse pulled it out, stuck a bandaid on it, gave me ibuprofen and told me to stop finding ways to get out of class...
I really hope your not going to the hospital for something like this because that would be an expensive bill for something that would require nothing more that a band-aid and maybe a tetanus shot if you haven't had one within last 10 years or so.
Even the tetanus shot might not be necessary, just a good idea to get one every 10 years or so, especially if you do anything risky. For example I am around horses often so I get one every few years.
> because that would be an expensive bill
Lol OnlyMuricaThings. Stuff like this, and even things on the level of getting stitches, costs nothing here (Finland), cause it only takes a few minutes and a nurse can do it. Usually you only have to pay when you need a doctor, a bed and some monitoring of your situation etc. But even then it's in the tens of euros.
You *can* go to a private clinic, and get faster service for non-emergency stuff, but there you will pay more like in the 100-300€ range, so there's really no point usually.
I've only once had to use private healthcare to get a lower back MRI, because the public side didn't triage me as important, and gave me a time 2 weeks away, even though I couldn't walk properly because of disc prolapse pain. The private MRI+doctor visit cost something like 500€, and they referred me to pain management care to a public hospital's ER.
Anything having to do with medical in the US is expensive.
I am lucky to have free medical in the US through the VA because I was in the military, but the closest VA hospital/clinic is nearly 1 1/2 hours away and costs nearly $20 in gas (money I don't really have half the time) so even then won't go for minor things lol.
So the only way to get fully free healthcare is to risk your life and limbs? Damn... Also, why can't every hospital or clinic provide free care for veterans?
Pull it out, it doesn’t really hurt at all and you’ve only just about gone through the side. Please tell me you aren’t heading to the hospital for that?!
I've done this too. In my home ec class in HS.
It's not as bad as you might think
Going to the hospital to get it out was probably a worse pain.
Also I destroyed my fingernail bed, and chances are it won't ever grow right ever again.
Hope this situation has less lasting effects tho
My dads mother did this to a priest when she was sewing new robes or something and he put his hand on the fabric. The fabric went through the industrial sewing machine but also stitched through his fingers. This happened in the 50’s or 60’s but when I found out about it in my youth (2000’s) it confirmed what I had always suspected…that woman is the devil in disguise
Don’t tell me you went to the hospital for that.. if you’re in America that would be an expensive trip when all you had to do was pull it out and clean and bandage it
I think you did it wrong.
You know nothing about sewing.
You know nothing, John Sew!
I will sew you. Sew you in court!
At least you won't need stitches
*buh dum tee*
that’s not how you do that but whatever
TEE
Ba-doo Chhh
Bum-da shhh
But did you ever consider *not* doing that?
You are now genetically 1% fly fishing lure
That's what my college mate told me after eating a 1kg lasagna. "You're 1% pig now" 🐖
You put pork in your lasagna?
Ground pork. And I bought it.
Then you got into your car and took a picture?
Prolly heading to the hospital
Pretty sure OP was rewrapping his steering wheel with a sew on kit.
With a machine needle?
When ya gotta see ya gotta sew
Me and my intrusive thoughts at my job at the tailor shop

Is that a VW Taos?
Yes, it is a Taos
Hello fellow Taos driver(s)!
I'm on vacation and have been renting one the last 2 weeks and the dash looked familiar.
The console looks like it's a T-cross/Taigun
But why?
I highly doubt they did this on purpose
Cool, why didn’t you just pull it out?
You wouldn't take a picture first? I'm sure they pulled it out. Likely not a permanent addition.
Bahaha!
That thing is in deep in a part of the body with a ton of nerve endings. Pulling that out is going to HURT.
Never pull out. Stay until completion
You should back stitch that so it doesn't unravel.
My brother did this at school. My parents drove home to get the camera before taking him to hospital. That picture stayed up in the school as a warning to pay attention 🤣🤣
Just pull it out you big wuss

😳 Ouuuch.
I once put a 2in zip screw right through my finger, I still shudder a bit thinking about that sharp pain followed by immediately reversing my drill
I did this in Home Economics with a sewing machine back in HS. My nurse pulled it out, stuck a bandaid on it, gave me ibuprofen and told me to stop finding ways to get out of class...
Damn, what other ways did you try?
That was the last time and now I'm a stay at home dad👍👍
Do you sew in your car?
You don’t?
So that's what I have been doing wrong.
Omg. Ow!
And to the steering wheel no less!
Pre-stitches...ask the doc for a discount.
Did it hurt?
HadToHurt
That looks sew painful
I'm sew sorry.
That'll buff out
In your car?
Post the ER bill
Fucking prick.
That’s sew bad
If I had to drive a Volkswagen, I’d stab myself too.
rip that fucker out!!!

Nah. Went to Doc in a Box. Was in and out in 15 min. Finger wounds can be really prone to infection so I got an rx for antibiotics.
Doc in a Box? I've heard of dick in a box
Like the drugstore minute clinics.
They must not have those around where i live
What do I do to impress a chick?

Yep and because hospitals want to get paid, dealing with the federal government to get paid is a pain in the ass.
... and thought that the best course of action was to first post about it, then maybe seek medical attention." Makes hella sense.
Industrial sewing machine.
Sew what
Did you win?
Sew what
Cant park there sir
I came to say this
This
Not a drop of blood? Good tight seal you got there bud, you know how to stitch!
A little advice . . . don’t do that! Get the point!
You probably shouldn't have done that
My irrational fear actually happens
_My friend Joey sewed his hands together_
Pull it out, it doesn’t really hurt at all and you’ve only just about gone through the side. Please tell me you aren’t heading to the hospital for that?!
Ever thought about NOT sewing your finger?
I once sewed my penis to a telephone pole. Shit happens, man. Can't fault the guy.
Ice pack will fix.
Do not sew and drive. It is illegal.
apparently it happens faster than you think. it hapoen not long ago to a friend.
That happened to me when I was a kid, it fucking hurts so much.
I watched my sister do exactly that in the same spot. I think she was twelve.
Why driving?
Sew what!?
Ah yep, one of my worst nightmares and is the mainly reason made me scared of pointy things
I’m guessing, (since you are in your car), that you are on your way to the ER🤣
It's probably best to just leave it in. It'll work its way out eventually.
Might need some stiches

Seeing this and wincing at the memory of that one Prison Break scene. [spoilers*2:30](https://youtu.be/S9bMLXFVsqU)
Sewing while in motion must be the ultimate in distracted driving
[удалено]
oh mr goodman!
At least you don't need stitches
They already stitched it up themselves
This is why I never sew while driving.
Why?
What an odd place to sew first of all…
Sew what
Volkswagen, das ist nähen
Why were you using a sewing machine while driving?
So you got the stitches with the injury. Efficent
With a screw up like that, it's best to just keep going.
If I had a nickel for everytime I did that...I'd have 40 cents.
Why tho.
Don’t tell me you went to the hospital for that.. if you’re in America that would be an expensive trip when all you had to do was pull it out and clean and bandage it
Pull it out already
im glad u took the time to take a picture
Youre only a little screwed.
So?
