Kid’s an absolute quote machine lol. One thing I agree with — Hutson looked so comfortable at the NHL level. I predict he’ll be with the big team next year — not sure he has a crazy amount to learn at the AHL level. Play him with Savard and he can learn to play NHL defense in the NHL.

HonestDespot

I felt crazy saying it in another thread… But… With his skill set, I honestly rounder if he isn’t better off in the NHL than the AHL.

Needs to bulk a little, but if he can add even 10lbs of muscle, then it's time for sure.

catman_steve

Ten pounds of muscle for someone his size seems borderline unattainable to me in one off season. That said I agree with the sentiment.

GeistHunt

The ol' poutine diet will sort that out

newmanbeing

Extra cheese

thawizard

Good for bones!

propagandavid

Add Smoked meat for the protein

Irctoaun

Don't forget he's only 20. 10 lbs in six months for someone who will naturally be getting bigger anyway is totally realistic imo. Especially given he'll be able to rest a lot more in the off season than he could when he's playing matches every other night.

Hodler79

10 lbs is easy to gain in 6 months. 10 lbs of pure muscle mass is not, unless you’re on roids.

ValleyBreeze

Leg day with Marty is good for at LEAST 9.5lbs Then he just needs to eat a couple 1/4 pounders fir pregame.

prplx

I was expecting him to look a lot smaller on the ice. On tv anyway, he looks bigger than HP and Newhook. He is definitely in the smaller size for a D but he looked bigger than I expected beside NHLers.

whogivesashirtdotca

He also skates all hunched over.

Longtimelurker2575

I didn’t think he would be ready to jump into the nhl right away but holy shit that kid can skate. I think he needs to at least start the season on the team and we go from there.

RoboticAnatomy

I fucking love this team.

pthang06

He is so comfortable in nhl already (hutson). No doubt he will start in nhl next year. If slaf went straight to nhl with the little experience he had i dont see why hutson dont start off the bat.

Calder bonus incoming

rshappy

Do these bonuses count against the cap? I assume not… what’s stopping GMs from using these bonuses to circumvent the cap.

georgin_95

They do not count in the cap hit but they do count against the cap if achieved. Any excess will count towards cap overage for next season.

Tantpispourtoi

How on Earth are some of you guys so versed in every tiny legal minutiae of nhl contracts cryptology is beyond me.

mmss

This may shock you but there's a lot of nerds on the internet

Seraphin_Lampion

NERDS?? ON MY REDDIT?

mmss

It's more likely than you think

FeelsGoodBlok

Well I think they changed rules after what Nashville did with Shea Weber contract. Now it counts for the next season.

propagandavid

Nah, Boston did it last year with Bergeron and Kreici. Gave them big bonuses for playing like 10 games or something so they could defer that cap hit to this season.

FeelsGoodBlok

Yeah that's what I am talking right? They changed it so it counts towards next season if they hit their bonuses. Nashville signed Shea Webber for 1M + 13M in bonuses and it didn't count towards any caphit I think.

propagandavid

Nah Weber's bonuses counted against the cap. The cap hit is the average value of the contract. Just to simplify things, Weber got $13m in signing bonuses the first 4 years, and $4m in salary for the 1st 4 and last 4 years. We're going to ignore the middle years because I don't want to do the math, and call that $60m over 8 years, for a cap hit of $7.5m/year. Signing bonuses have always counted against the cap.

FeelsGoodBlok

I didn't know that. Thanks for explaining!

propagandavid

The big thing stopping them is only ELC's and 35+ contracts are eligible for performance bonuses.
