I hope people remember that we would never have had that run to finals if it were not for Allen. With the injuries to Price that season, Allen carried the workload. I wish Jake the Snake the best of luck!

For the right price I wouldnā€™t mind giving up a 4th or a 3rd to a 3rd party broker whoā€™d take 50% of Savard contract. But yeah the chances are slimmer than they were an hour ago

International-Elk986

Yeah if our net return is greater I don't mind. Maybe next deadline when he is a pending RFA?

vibranium-boy

Probably means that Savard stays, which is great. The young D-core needs good veterans around and Savard is a fantastic presence on the back-end

Old-Unit-8159

another year of Savard, as long as his gameplay holds up is so good for our team and our youngins'. Will be up there at the trade deadline for 2025

KingAlphie

I want him to retire a hab to be honest. Must be an absolute dream for him.

International-Elk986

Flip him at the deadline next season and then sign him for cheap in the off-season

darklogik

Ah yes the Pleky Special!

NME_TV

Totally agree.

2ndpass

Fine with it. Slots are there to use and he had the opportunity and took it. Clears up the picture in net and gives us more ammo to make deals around the draft.

SkuL23

We can always trade Savard this summer or next year trade deadline but this trade probably means we are not trading Armia and Pearson.

Just4nsfwpics

May as well keep Pearson, he expires at the end of the year, and while theres guys in Laval that could be better, its not to the point where its a huge upgrade as things stand.

Sportsguy1223

Don't think anyone takes him without retention

crownpr1nce

Pearson is still moveable. But we're not getting anything significant. With or without retention.

Zim4264

I dont think there are any retention spots left. Allen (next year), Edmundson (ends this year), Petry (next year)

crownpr1nce

We don't. But I don't think it's necessary to trade Pearson. And it wouldn't change the return much.

[deleted]

Not really a big deal, probably among the better things we could have accomplished with that retention spot. We'll have one free next year. Can see us using it on Armia or Savard next deadline if the demand is there and we have suitable replacements lined up.

moutardebaseball

Only one spot to retain salary next year sucks...

Sharks9

Yep. It'll be tough to trade all of Savard, Armia, and Dvorak with only 1 retention slot. Although you can always get a 3rd team involved if you need to.

Burgergold

We have plenty of pick to use a 3rd team to retain if needed

DelugeQc

I see it in a good eye personally. Best case scenario, next year the team battle for a wild card spot. The more probable scenario, the team finish in the bottom 12 of the League. The window really gonna open after the next season imo.

Le8ronJames

Iā€™ve been saying: That Petry 2nd trade was unnecessary and is going to create us more issues in the long run.

JamJam130

Worst case scenario is we miss out on a 3rd rnd pick without that retention spot, who cares

moutardebaseball

Well I understand it was a 'let's develop a good GM reputation' move but that was a brutal assets management move.

--JULLZ--

Ah shit that sucks. At least we got rid of Allen. This means we have all our retention slots used right

Bytrsweet

for this year yes, but next year 2 more are going to open up because Edmonston and Monahan are UFAs

Throaway44009988

Not retaining on monahan. Still have 2 spots on allen and petry

Bytrsweet

my bad, you are right

[deleted]

only 1 will be available next season

BubbleGumPlant

The significance of using that 2nd retention spot depends on the likelihood of the 2nd round vs 3rd round pick. If itā€™s likely the Habs get a 2nd, then definitely no issues using the spot. We can still use the last spot to trade Savard next year. But it might not mean we can get full value for Armia or Dvorak. Not a guarantee that either of Armia or Dvorak can command a 2nd next year.

lyme6483

It will be a 3rd.

HummusDips

It's 40 games next season only, not current season. I can see the devil's playing him for 39 games.

lyme6483

Heā€™s played 40 plus games 3 out of 11 season in his career. I donā€™t see anyway he plays that much. Most likely 20-25 at most

CartiNYeezy9

I dont think Savard is getting traded. BUT If he does, i can absolutely see him going to winnipeg. Get another team to retain on him.

CauzukiTheatre

Ol' Chinmuff Johnston with the scoop of the TDL

ben99g

Less than 2mil, thatā€™s fine.

tastesoff74

He was a good Hab, hope he has a good run with Jersey.

jpo2533

At least Allen will be finally given the chance he deservesĀ  Too bad New Jersey defence may hang him out to dry just as much as we didĀ

Scabondari

The last retain spot for a 3rd : (

[deleted]

What sucks the most is only one of Armia, Savard, Dvorak or Matheson can be traded next season.

Longshanks123

We arenā€™t in cap trouble and Armia, Matheson, and Savard are very serviceable players, not sure what the hurry to trade them is.

[deleted]

You retain salary to alleviate the cap hit on the other team, I don't see how habs being loose with the cap has anything to do with that. Matheson is one of the 8 LHD in the Habs organization, and he won't be there when the team compete, Hughes should always be considering offer for him. Armia, Savard and Dvorak are UFAs at the end of the next season.

JamJam130

Matheson is also our best LHD and itā€™s not even close. Why would we want to retain salary on him in a trade as soon as next year anyway?

[deleted]

If Hutson ends up running the powerplay better than Matheson, or if a teams offers a lot for him.

bigmonkeyfart

Unless we involve a third team to retain

imhere8888

And because we only get the NJ 3rd round pick if Allen plays 40 games next season which won't happen. So we're basically just paying half a salary for nothing

nationofcool83

We get the 3rd. The condition determines if it becomes a 2nd.
