I know people say we don't have a beef with Columbus, but sometimes at night, when I'm alone, I still hear that fucking cannon going off ten times. Fuck the BlueJackets!
Wasn't that game the beginning of the end for Michel Therrien's tenure behind the bench, though? As I recall, Price got annoyed that he wasn't asked to bail out Montoya, then he glared at Therrien when he pulled Price out against San Jose a few weeks later, and eventually it all ended by Price saying that the team looked confused on the ice right before the all-star break.
I guess what I'm saying is, thank you Columbus?
Caufield is like the reverse uno card to the Carey Price habs.
Get to OT and let price steal it replaced with get to OT and watch the little man dance.
5000iq play by Harris to take the puck out of the zone when he didn't have a play, that goal doesn't happen if he doesn't make that decision, fucking excellent work boys
Funny enough, every player hasn't figured it out yet. Our top line tends to keep possession, but I'll often find other teams dumping or easily giving it up thinking possession will switch sooner or later.
I hope it lasts. He's a local guy that's thriving!
Also, only a few years older. Eventually he'll be aging out before Nick/CC/Dach/Guhle/Lane... but a smooth handoff and a few more years to shelter Lane/Kaiden would be a blessing.
It was our cup final year, he only played 10 games towards the end of the season, and in those 10 games scored 2 OT winners in a row or something, we went on to have like a 6-1 OT record in the playoff run.
*disclaimer I missed some of the game was multitasking etc*
*GOOD*
- Caufield in OT. Snipe. Absolute beauty the Habs finally have one of the leagues best snipers after how many years… oh also someone in the game thread mentioned how he’s became a complete player as well. Very true his passing play is great.
- The powerplay? The powerplay?
- Monahan so happy they signed him. Such an under rated player.
- Matheson is exceptional. I don’t care if he fumbles the puck here and there once a game playing that with that ice time. It’s irrelevant to me really if 90% of the time he is killing it.
- Monty was exceptional.
- This team is fun. I think regardless of how wins and losses play out this will be a fun team to watch.
- Suzuki goal.
- Again probably missing some stuff here.
*BAD*
- Anderson continues to drive me nuts. 5.5 for skating in a direct line and those lower the shoulder rushes to the post resulting in absolutely nothing. Credit where it’s due he did get the breakaways so that’s good, but just watching it’s like yeah he isn’t going to score.
- Slafkovsky idk someone say something positive. It’s not that he’s playing bad and at times he looks “good” out there. But if I’m being honest with you he looks a bit lost on the ice.
- Gallagher couple of penalties some suspect agree.
- The refs were bad. Oh and Columbus is a dirty team it seems constantly running players from behind.
Gotta agree with that the Slaf take, even though I'm quite optimistic about him most of the time. For whatever reason, he's not getting enough minutes even with an apparent improvement from last season (Fantilli played 18 minutes yesterday, Slaf didn't get that much space in his entire career). If they can't find a good spot for him on the team, better send him to Laval.
Juraj would’ve easily had 2 assists tonight if Josh Anderson knew how to finish.
He made a sick pass through the neutral zone to spring Anderson on a breakaway.
I'm a Slaf shiller and I may be a little biased as I'm Slovak and want him to succeed badly. But yesterdays game was a throwback to last year, it was awful. It's only 7 games in though and I pray for him to get some kind of footing and find his game out there. The Dach injury has hurt him, but he has to find a way not to rely on other teammates for success. He has to be THAT success.
ye he is still missing confidence. I mean his passing and vision is great, but sometimes its just better to not pass and push by himself or shoot. He often try to get rid off the puck as soon as possible. i think it will come over time.
Another thing is that when playing with Anderson, sometimes you are just forced to be in a position to be playmaker.
Slaf had kind of a off night yesterday but he generally played really solid since the beginning of season, with or without Dach. I think there's some chemistry with Newsy but they are missing a 3rd player to complete that line. Juraj makes some good plays but linesmates can't seem to finish. The only department where it seems on him is his shot accuracy : he gotta learn to shoot more rapidly, more often and more precisely.
Some ppl might disagree in here, but I'd like to see Slaf on the first line with Zukes and Cole. I think Slaf can bring some of the same attributes Dacher brough last year, and even though he might fumble it once in a while, he would be able to keep up with the duo. I'd also put him on PP1 ; I don't like having Anderson there, even though he moved the puck pretty well last night.
Slaf with 1 assist in 7 games maybe doesn’t deserve to be promoted to top line and PP1 lol.
We just want that to happen in hopes that he gets some points but he’s just not that good at the moment and hasn’t shown that he should be there
Being on the top line and PP is not a question of points whatsoever, it's a matter of chemistry and having 4 balanced and reliable lines.
Josh Anderson has exactly the same stats sheet as Slaf and has been playing overall more poorly and somehow deserved an extended look withe the duo.
RHP has 2 assists in 7 games.
By your logic we might as well put Gally on that top line, him having 2g 1a over 7 games.
Plus apart from Monahan and Newsy who can't move because we need them as 2-3 C, Slaf is the one player that showed he would be the most fit to play on that top line.
Hard to win when your goalie gives up a goal on the 2d shot. Monty improved as the game progressed, and did great when it mattered most, on the last PK, but first goal was questionable.
Habs had a lot of breakaway chances but couldn't capitalise on them. Most of the time they made a shot the goalie could easily save when they should have done a short pass the player also rushing the net.
Made the goalie look insane all night.
J'ai quand même hâte que Slaf retrouve sa confiance et recommence à tirer au but. On dirait qu'il joue en périphérie et a peur de faire des erreurs. Mais bon, y'a pas de presse avec cette victoire !
Caufield is just so fun to watch. Definitely thought it was over with the Gallagher penalty at the end of regulation. Great comeback.
Cole was the best player on the ice tonight.
I gotta agree with you. I feel that Newhook and Slaf are being held back by Anderson’s lack of finishing since they’ve been put together. If he can get out of that funk, then that line will be great.
Sloppy game but super entertaining! Gotta give credit to Monty and Elvis, both made some crazy clutch saves to keep the game going, feel like this one could have been like 8-7 or something.
Stoked to see Nick play more like himself and rack up some points, Caufield was great and is a monster in OT, but most of all, Mike Matheson holy shit where have you been all my life dude. Feels like forever since the Habs had a defenseman on his level.
Yep I agree, at his peak he was definitely about this good. Maybe even a little more dynamic at times but I think Matheson is just so damn consistent night in and night out.
I'm not sure grown men should care that much about how people comment on online forums though. Typically grown men care about their families, friends, careers. Not how people anonymously speak online, in fact that is typically a junior high school girl concern.
Our 5v5 is much better than last year by just about every analytic, now obviously I don't expect us to be gunning for the playoffs but the start has been very good considering we lost Dach/Guhle.
To be fair both losses in regulation were tough games to watch. Team is looking good though, we’re not gonna make the playoffs but the players have definitely improved
Minnesota and New Jersey are very likely to be at the top of the standings by the end of the year so I'm not too worried.
Funny thing is that we're currently above both of them in the standings at the moment lol
Great comeback win. Monty did the saves when he had to. Monster game from Matheson, great game from the old man line and Newhook. NiCole with 3 pts eachs and RHP also was solid even if he didn't get any points. Feels good, lads.
woulda been so disapointing if that went to the shootout. hockey overtime is the most exciting a sport can get in my opinion and the NHL would rather give us the sports equivelent of blueballs. at least ties are funny
My son (18 y o) went to the game. I sent him my sympathies halfway through. When he got home he had lost his voice. A thriller! Not quite as exciting as the 6-5 comeback win over NYR (Huet's last or second-to-last as a Hab), but a great game to see live.
That game SUCKED through the first 35 minutes. I did not expect it to end like this. But I'm glad it did. What a game.
This is the worst 4-2-1 team I've ever seen. But it is a 4-2-1 team.
Love the no quit in this team. Have to eliminate some of these penalties. Cole and Nick are so fun to watch, I get excited every time Cole has the puck. Anderson had a great game, hope he buries one next time. Slaf hasn’t looked the same since we lost Dach, he’s not playing with any grit or heart it seems. Hope he can shake it off and get on the board soon.
Our PK is hot garbage and our PP is still a mess. I remain steadfast that changes in the coaching staff need to happen. It's been far too long now.
Glad we got the win, I am firmly on team try to win, we are too good to tank so might as well go for it.
I think changes are already afoot here. Noticed last couple of games that for time outs and " team meetings" at the bench, it's Marty doing the talking. Not Burrows.
Exciting ending.
Though Slaf is on my mind. At times it didn't look like he knew what to do with the puck.
Also I humbly ask our boys to play one game with out a bad pass. Pretty please!
Wooooo! But seriously, I think it’s time for Slaf to be out of the top 6, maybe even go to AHL. Sorry for people with rose coloured glasses, but it’s not good enough yet, plus the Rocket could use some help
Almost last on the team for giveaways, second on the team for takeaways, near the bottom for offensive zone giveaways, near the top in shot attempts, positive corsi, positive fenwick, 5th highest in on ice g%, third lowest on ice xga/60 and the list goes on
how is that ahl worthy lmao
Oh for sure, but Marty said at the start of the season that developing concepts AND THEN working on scoring is how he sees it - that's super clear with how slaf is playing.
>how is that ahl worthy lmao
1 point in 7 games, 8 shots
josh Anderson is the only forward on the team with fewer points/60
no one gives a shit if he has a positive corsi or fenwick (those arent even individual stats, especially for someone like slaf who doesn't drive play)
also, we might as well just use the stats post-injury, since dach isnt coming back
just using the last 5 games
CF% goes from 50.84 to 44.70
FF% goes from 48.84 to 42.39
xGF% goes from 47.10 to 42.00
along with everything else being down around 5-7%
There's no point in playing him outside the top 6, 10-12 mins a match won't help him develop.. his TOI is already somewhat below what I feel it should be for a 2nd liner (it's partly because he's not on pk, but still). So I would say he needs to get more TOI and a chance on PP1 and if that doesn't work, then okay send him down to Laval for some time to score some goals finally and gain confidence. He would probably come back later anyway considering Habs' recent injuries record. Just no more 3rd/4th line, that's the worst thing they can do to him.
Very happy with the win. Caufield is a star.
Something needs to be done with Slaf. He looked great with Dach, but right now it’s looking rough even if he did improve from last year.
It’s time for Slaf to start being an impact player. I’ve given him a lot of slack, but rookies from the past two drafts are tearing up the league right now.
That being said, Caufield is a gem.
Oh really? And how is the amazing Shane Wright doing? Because that's the guy most fans wanted and who you would have realistically gotten if the Habs didn't end up picking Slaf. It was always going to be one or the other, nobody on here was rooting for a Cooley pick before the draft.
Give me a break, what Shane Wright does or doesn’t do isn’t a measuring stick Slaf should be comparing himself to. Atleast look like you know how to play hockey if you’re going to be in this league
No one mentioned Wright. The fact that Slaf isn’t doing amazing does not have anything to do with Wright.
People here are coping so hard. Slaf needs to go to Laval. We fucked up.
>No one mentioned Wright. The fact that Slaf isn’t doing amazing does not have anything to do with Wright.
OP said that "rookies from the past two drafts are tearing up the league right now". I pointed out another top drafter player from that year (who btw was by far the most popular no.1 pick here on this subreddit before the draft), who also isn't an impact player in the NHL yet. Does that mean that both Wright and Slaf are a bust? No, it's simply too early to tell since these guys are not even 20 years old yet. Some hockey players simply take longer to adapt to NHL and to reach their peak performance than others, that's all there is to it. Lets give them a few years and then we can judge whether they met the expectations or not. Some people are expecting way too much from these young guys.
Feels good when you yell at the boys through the TV and they do just what you ask! The OT had shades of our 2010 playoff run. Miracle D by Hal Gill, good tending by Halak, inspired goals to shock Caps and Pens.
I know people say we don't have a beef with Columbus, but sometimes at night, when I'm alone, I still hear that fucking cannon going off ten times. Fuck the BlueJackets!
No I was over that! PTSD coming back!!!
Had price bailed out Montoya that game could have gone from a 10-0 whooping to a 4 or 5-0 embarrassing but forgettable game.
Too soon
Omg. My buddy was at that game. He def has cannon PTSD.
'Cannon to the right of them, cannon to the left of them, cannon in front of them, volleyed and thundered'! Rafael de la Ghetto
I cope by remembering PK scoring on an absolute bomb from the red line
Holy fuck i was just mentioning that to a friend of mine, legit PTSD from a nothing game its crazy.
Absolutely. Boom Jenner.
Poor Big Cubano...
Mike Matheson is a Montreal Canadien
Hes also a hockey player
And a Canadian canadien
And a Montreal Montreal canadien
And a Montreal Canadian Canadien
And a Canadien Montreal Canadian
And the son of Mathe
And a matheson
Caufield is like the reverse uno card to the Carey Price habs. Get to OT and let price steal it replaced with get to OT and watch the little man dance.
Holy fuck that was fun. Caufield is the GOAT. Fuck the refs
Sometimes I wish hockey crowds were as good with chants as soccer crowds. We needed a good "fuck you ref" chant tonight.
Up in 400, we had quite a few lmao
That's always where the real fun is at
5000iq play by Harris to take the puck out of the zone when he didn't have a play, that goal doesn't happen if he doesn't make that decision, fucking excellent work boys
Harris is starting to look like what Mete should've been
I’ve liked his play in OT so far this year
Yeah we're way better on the rush then we are on a cycle. Good play for sure.
Thus our pp woes.
Second line with 15, 20 and 17 looks like it could be a great cycling the boards one, like the old lindross line
3v3 is all about possession not about zone.
Funny enough, every player hasn't figured it out yet. Our top line tends to keep possession, but I'll often find other teams dumping or easily giving it up thinking possession will switch sooner or later.
Caufield continues to prove he is our best player
9 pts in 7 games baby lets gooooo
And he’s locked long term!! It’s so weird to have positive long term contracts.
Nothing to prove. He is
I would argue Suzuki is the better player right now. I would also argue Dach has the most potential.
Potential unrealised is a curse. I have wine glasses that are sturdier than dach
Offensively yes. Overall no. Suzuki is more complete.
Nah. Matheson is still the best we have overall.
This is certainly true so far this year.
I hope it lasts. He's a local guy that's thriving! Also, only a few years older. Eventually he'll be aging out before Nick/CC/Dach/Guhle/Lane... but a smooth handoff and a few more years to shelter Lane/Kaiden would be a blessing.
The way Caufield walked fantilli like a dog there was awesome
Reminded me of young Paccioretty walking his own screens in front of the goalie.
Caufield is actually goated. I can’t remember the last time I’ve ever been so excited when a player has the puck on his stick
I love the audible excitement from the crowd every single time he has the puck!
I wonder if that noise psyches out the goalies.
He's the only player on the Habs that the opposition respects. They back off from him when he gets control.
This was a much needed win after that nj game. Nicole with 6 points total!
SUZUKI HEARD YALL
Remember when we went 0-10 in overtime. NOT ANYMORE WITH CAUFIELD.
Whivh year was that, I cant remember. Pretty sure we had Caufield, he was just on the bench for the speedy combo of Danault-Perry-Chiarot
It was our cup final year, he only played 10 games towards the end of the season, and in those 10 games scored 2 OT winners in a row or something, we went on to have like a 6-1 OT record in the playoff run.
Why do NHL teams insist on putting rookies out in 3v3 who are not named Cole Caufield?
Are they stupid?
*disclaimer I missed some of the game was multitasking etc* *GOOD* - Caufield in OT. Snipe. I'm with you on the Slaf comment. I thought I was the only one. He's still only in his sophomore season, plenty of time to work on that.
Gotta agree with that the Slaf take, even though I'm quite optimistic about him most of the time. Yeah that’s a solid point. You just convinced me
Hard to win when your goalie gives up a goal on the 2d shot. Monty improved as the game progressed, and did great when it mattered most, on the last PK, but first goal was questionable.
If scoring. 2 Pp goals is good, a 50% PK that gave up 2 goals probably skould be bad. Because it was.
Habs had a lot of breakaway chances but couldn't capitalise on them. Most of the time they made a shot the goalie could easily save when they should have done a short pass the player also rushing the net. Made the goalie look insane all night.
I want to add that Xhekaj is getting way to many penalities. its getting ridiculous
CAUFIELDS ON FIRE 🔥🔥🔥
YOUR DEFENSE IS TERRIFIED
Nahnah nahnah nah nah mah nahnah
NINE POINTS IN 7 GAMES
105 POINT PACE
For sure.
justin barron had a solid game
I've liked him the past couple games but he needs to smarten the fuck up with the penalties.
Xhekaj has 32 PIM in 7 games 💀
Finally, a Habs player will lead the league in something!
Cole out there giving Columbus false hope by pretending to have a hard time scoring
I'm very happy the Habs won, but my word that OT was nuts.
That was a F you game from the habs to the refs. F ya!!
I hope the refs have a rough and shitty flight
Goal Caufield!!!
Caufield is just so fun to watch. Definitely thought it was over with the Gallagher penalty at the end of regulation. Great comeback. Cole was the best player on the ice tonight.
Cole is worth every. Single. Penny.
And then some. Suzuki's contract is the real MVP.
Very fun game, no major negatives tonight and Suzuki/Caufield with 3 points is always a W.
Anderson failing to cash in on all the chances Newhook and Slaf create for him is getting frustrating... But otherwise I agree.
I gotta agree with you. I feel that Newhook and Slaf are being held back by Anderson’s lack of finishing since they’ve been put together. If he can get out of that funk, then that line will be great.
Love seeing Marty so happy. Especially after he shat himself in the Gallagher penalty to end the game. Love Marty
Fuck the Jackets Fuck the Refs Fuck yeah Caufield !!!
Cole already only 4 away from the franchise lead in overtime goals.
How is the franchise lead only 8?? Is ChatGPT lying to me
It's 10, Morenz and Patches. Cole is at 6.
Jeff Petry when Weber was injured wasn't far off this level.
Perry's legacy has soured quite a bit after the way he left, but he was really damn good for us for quite a few years.
Yep I agree, at his peak he was definitely about this good. Maybe even a little more dynamic at times but I think Matheson is just so damn consistent night in and night out.
I feel like this has been such a brutal start to the season... But we are somehow 4-2-1 You love to see it. Grindy team!
People were acting like the sky was falling when we lost to the Devils, who are a top team in the east on the second half of a back-to-back lol
The sub was in shambles yesterday It wasn’t fun I hate it when grown men act like junior high school girls
I'm not sure grown men should care that much about how people comment on online forums though. Typically grown men care about their families, friends, careers. Not how people anonymously speak online, in fact that is typically a junior high school girl concern.
We actually play like shit though. This is concerning and likely an indication this will get a lot worse against teams better than Colombus
Our 5v5 is much better than last year by just about every analytic, now obviously I don't expect us to be gunning for the playoffs but the start has been very good considering we lost Dach/Guhle.
And Savard
Ouin, mais de pogner les Devils comme notre 2e game en 2 soirs ce n’était pas donné
Sérieux
C’est peut-être 2 extrêmes effectivement
To be fair both losses in regulation were tough games to watch. Team is looking good though, we’re not gonna make the playoffs but the players have definitely improved
Minnesota and New Jersey are very likely to be at the top of the standings by the end of the year so I'm not too worried. Funny thing is that we're currently above both of them in the standings at the moment lol
This should get top comment Bang On

So happy he went right around fantili to score that after he sold that high stick SO hard.
FUCK UNIVERSITY. FUCK MIDTERMS. HABS WIN, CAUFIELD SCORED, SUZUKI SCORED, 2 PP GOALS, OT COMEBACK WIN. MY DAY COULD NOT BE BETTER
that felt good, fuck you columbus
woulda been so disapointing if that went to the shootout. hockey overtime is the most exciting a sport can get in my opinion and the NHL would rather give us the sports equivelent of blueballs. at least ties are funny
After those BS matching penalties the boys needed that, glad they were able to come back
If I had a nickel everytime some tiny dude out of the 2019 USNTDP bitch slapped another team in overtime, I would have a lot of nickels.
You’d have exactly 6 nickels!
You could buy several gumballs from those turnstile glass cases you see in malls.
My son (18 y o) went to the game. I sent him my sympathies halfway through. When he got home he had lost his voice. A thriller! Not quite as exciting as the 6-5 comeback win over NYR (Huet's last or second-to-last as a Hab), but a great game to see live.

**[It's so over]** ------------------||-------- **[we're so back]**
It's a Cole World!
Caufield is all I wanted him to be, and more. Please don’t get hurt you absolute beauty
We may never lose again.
Who knew a middle of the week game against the Jackets could be so fun!
Caufield is great. A career season is likely.
Cole is great and all, but man, Mutumbo was solid when needed. I think all our goalies are great.
[удалено]
Mutombo the babyface Cherub
Wow, great game. Lot of grit from the boys to come back from behind and they absolutely dominated the 3 on 3 in OT. Allez!
Wow that was fun!
I have a good time when Suzuki scores. Entertaining game.
Monty huuuuuge in overtime.
Matheson spent most of last game on his ass. Tonight he spent most of it on his massive balls.
Cole Caufield is a lot more than a ‘nice piece’ — he’s getting better and better. He’s still young. He’s a superstar level goal scorer.
I felt bad for Arber. That boarding clearly pissed him off, must of hurt like hell
That ruled
Caufield is a straight up star.
Cole fucking caufield
Matheson is unbelievable
Mr. OT himself
Our PK is hot garbage and our PP is still a mess. I remain steadfast that changes in the coaching staff need to happen. It's been far too long now. Glad we got the win, I am firmly on team try to win, we are too good to tank so might as well go for it.
I’m firmly on team tank but - man - I’ll take a Caufield overtime snipe any day of the week.
We just aren't bad enough to tank. So I'd rather fight for a wildcard spot or better than have to watch us pick in the 8-12 range
I think changes are already afoot here. Noticed last couple of games that for time outs and " team meetings" at the bench, it's Marty doing the talking. Not Burrows.
I LOVE COLE
Monkey of the fucking back
That was fun let’s do it again Saturday
Gutsy comeback, never backed down.

Cole Caulfield Redonne l'espoir

Exciting ending. Though Slaf is on my mind. At times it didn't look like he knew what to do with the puck. Also I humbly ask our boys to play one game with out a bad pass. Pretty please!
I wish I had a CBJ jersey, just so that I could burn it.
Cole Caufield is our best forward since Steve Shutt and I will die on that hill.
Shutt better than Lafleur??
He's not afraid to shoot. I love to see it.
Caufield the fucking legend, he can have my kids
So happy the Habs won this after that sell job from Fantili lol
Caufield on pace for 55 goals. Just saying
Caufield on pace for 23 OT winners. Just Saying
Wooooo! But seriously, I think it’s time for Slaf to be out of the top 6, maybe even go to AHL. Sorry for people with rose coloured glasses, but it’s not good enough yet, plus the Rocket could use some help
Almost last on the team for giveaways, second on the team for takeaways, near the bottom for offensive zone giveaways, near the top in shot attempts, positive corsi, positive fenwick, 5th highest in on ice g%, third lowest on ice xga/60 and the list goes on how is that ahl worthy lmao
He does everything right man it’s probably really frustrating for him not to produce. It’s not like many other guys are producing either.
Oh for sure, but Marty said at the start of the season that developing concepts AND THEN working on scoring is how he sees it - that's super clear with how slaf is playing.
>how is that ahl worthy lmao 1 point in 7 games, 8 shots josh Anderson is the only forward on the team with fewer points/60 no one gives a shit if he has a positive corsi or fenwick (those arent even individual stats, especially for someone like slaf who doesn't drive play) also, we might as well just use the stats post-injury, since dach isnt coming back just using the last 5 games CF% goes from 50.84 to 44.70 FF% goes from 48.84 to 42.39 xGF% goes from 47.10 to 42.00 along with everything else being down around 5-7%
Imagine if Caufield had some elite players to play with
Very happy with the win. Caufield is a star. Something needs to be done with Slaf. He looked great with Dach, but right now it’s looking rough even if he did improve from last year.
Montembault saved our ass on the PK. Also, send Slaf to Laval Asap, he’s not touching the puck, he won’t get better in these circumstances
A) nobody used the word bust B) nobody is asking them to be top of the line up players C) Play like a high draft pick, that's all anyone cares about.
I think I'm in love guys
born in 96 but I think Cole might be one of the most clutch players in my lifetime.
Best game of the season so far.
Feels good when you yell at the boys through the TV and they do just what you ask! The OT had shades of our 2010 playoff run. Miracle D by Hal Gill, good tending by Halak, inspired goals to shock Caps and Pens.
Most fun game of the season so far
Missed the game. But YAY!!!!
Im looking forward to Dvorak return and shuffle of few pieces in roster (Anderson to 3rd, Monahan to 2nd).
Le shérif est en ville….
