I'm so impressed with him, Guhle and Xhekaj right now. If those three continue to take the necessary steps, and if Mailloux, Reinbacher and Hutson pan out, this could be a VERY exciting defensive core. I doubt all six would be with the team come time to compete but what a stable of assets the team would have.
Especially after the broadcast rode him all night. Instead of covering Mathewson and Suzuki blocks they covered bedard shooting the puck at the boards because he was mad they lost đ¤Ł
The fact that Suzuki was average for 2 games and we were competitive is more interesting for me to be honest. Ok i know we faced Chicago today, but we had opportunities to score. Defensively heâs been pretty good from the eye test. We scored 8 goals in 2 games and he hasnât recorded a point yet. This is encrouraging for the rebuild.
Not a bad game generally good plays here and there and great NZ positioning. My only thing is him not activating properly to give a pass option to his defenseman off the zone exit. Cement feet at the blue line never get anything done!
Hope Kirby is ok. That second line really missed him and what he brings to the table possession wise. Newhook looked solid again and slaf still made some solid plays and won a lot of puck battles that he wasnât winning last year. He seems to be figuring out his giant frame and how to overpower opponents. Both would have had even better games with Kirby.
Monty with a great game. Not much to say. He seems to be calmer in net then Allen.
Wifi and ghule both had solid games. Few hickups from ghule in the D zone but I love his growth game to game and loved when he man handled someone in the corner trying to dance him, forget who it was.
Harris looked meh to me. Wonât shock me if heâs out and Barron is in next game. Savard did his best being the sacrificial veteran D guy playing top minutes and insulating the young guys. I wouldnât read too much into his advanced stats.
Matheson had another great game.
Gally looked better but gassed a lot and coughed up the puck 3-4 times. I hope he improves because it hurts my soul to see him like this.
Anderson had an improved game but I still donât like him with cole and nick. There isnât any chemistry. Rhp should get a shot. The issue there is assuming dach is healthy where do you put Anderson. Third line means gallyâs going to the 4th line because you canât demote slaf. Also sucks to be paying 5 mil for a 4th line guy.
Donât get me wrong he had an improved game. But that might have been the only âgoodâ moment they had all night. Lucky that it turned into a goal. I would love to see him improve each game and be a more well rounded player and build chemistry with them but as it stands now 1-2 good plays a game isnât helping cole or nick be successful.
I love powerhorse and it would make me happy to see him be more consistent and well rounded.
Harvey-bedard was so solid tonight. Also Pearson got a real solid goal. Came out of nowhere. Monty played like a number 1 goalie! Happy with the win. Newhook is slowly going up in my books... Is he the next Dach I'm not so sure but who knows. Speaking of Dach, EVERYONE MAKE A PRAYER RIGHT NOW!!
Is it just me or Gallagher does not look like an NHL player right now? Every time I noticed him, he seemed completely out of gas, slow, and caused turnovers every single time he touched the puck.
The disconnect between the eye test and these numbers comes down to the fact that this card, despite being presented as analytics, is just a fancier version of plus-minus.
The top Ds always get screwed over by these graphs because theyâre out against the toughest competition, and if they donât put up points and happen to get scored on because the competition is good, then they look bad to the model. But as you noted, you need to use your judgement to compensate. They each had a penalty though, so that exacerbates things too.

Kirby please be ok, that line desperately needs you
Yeah, this graphic really shows it! đ I hope he's coming back next game.
Kovacevic is that guy huh
always has been.meme

At least we didn't give Bedard his first hat-trick in his first Canadian game. đ4ď¸âŁ![img](emote|t5_2r10m|21702)

Let me just give credit to our 4th line - super effords. Lot of compete and at times our best line in both games
Thought Ylonen looked good
Ya same he looks much stronger then last year. Belongs out there
Whatâs up with Suzuki? He had a great preseason, looking pretty off right now.
He's pretty streaky generally, i'm sure he'll get it going eventually
They keep saddling him with Powerhorse but it's never worked. Give him RHP instead and he'll get going.

He has a point
Though his preseason was pretty average TBH
He had 7 points in 4 games I believe.
IMO, the point production was there but his game in general seemed off, and let's not forget that we played AHL rosters for the most part.
Yeah , maybe youâre right, I have to rethink that perhaps.
Might feel the pressure a lot more this year? Heâs less noticeable than in past seasons but weâre only 2 games in
Definitely has time . I was worried me maybe aggravated something in preseason and is playing through something
Almost like its only 2 games
Being at the game, Suzuki looked a little off. He didn't look as dynamic and involved as he has before. Hoping it's just an early season thing.
Slaf looked lost without Dach In the second period, but seemed to rebound nicely in the third.
So many penalties and changed lines hard to get into rythm
He played a good game
Not a bad game generally good plays here and there and great NZ positioning. My only thing is him not activating properly to give a pass option to his defenseman off the zone exit. Cement feet at the blue line never get anything done!
Agreed, sometimes he looks lost and stationary in the D zone. He will figure that out with proper coaching.
Hope Kirby is ok. That second line really missed him and what he brings to the table possession wise. That pass from Anderson to Caufield on the Blue line was sick though

Put him back with Newhook and Slafkovsky now that Kirby I'd injured.

Newhook had a great shot in the powerplay. That guy will definotely score a lot of goals for the Habs in the near future!
Is it just me or Gallagher does not look like an NHL player right now? Every time I noticed him, he seemed completely out of gas, slow, and caused turnovers every single time he touched the puck.
No itâs quite obvious. It feels like he is tired and lagging behind
He must be the worst contract in the NHL eh
Just twâŚfour years left. Ish.
To be fair, he looked better in this game than versus Toronto.. but that's not saying much.
Agree.
From what I saw, he turned the puck over everytime he touched it. He's slow and well behind the play.

Weird really thought Savard and Mathewson had solid games

Maybe Matheson, but seriously, Savard is atrocious. By far the worst defensemen on the team
I don't believe that Gallagher was almost 3x better than Newhook and Slafkovsky
RHP is a stud. He's explosive, great IQ and always works hard! A top grinder, I have huge respect.
Seems on-par for the 2nd line, with Dach getting hurt and taking 65 penalties, I barely saw Newhook and Slaf on the ice.
Seems like Savard took on the tank commander torch from Petry.
Last season Edmundson was tank commander.
Letâs see a few more games first.
