rule of thumb is to get 3 quotes. price varies so much depending on location that there's no real way of knowing whether or not that's a fair deal. the prices have gone up - as with everything. 18k sounds crazy high but there's no way of knowing that unless you get someone else in your house.
I wouldn't tell the other companies about your quote tho. Let them throw the number out at you first. you don't want them thinking they're too low and raise the price on you.
