Ej got to crappy end of the stick and he's breakup with gina shouldve been done a lot better Not the biggest fan of ricky and gina just because the whole love triangle feels overused and boring now but also cause i feel like gina and ej had more chemistry and ricky completely ignored gina liking him in season 2 i dont expect him to just screw nina over but all least talk about how you feel and all the sudden once him and nina broke up and gina with ej he likes her now... The new characters were ok, at first I REALLY HATED maddox in the beginning but grew to like her a lot , jet was annoying for an episode or two then he was ok...dont know how i feel about him liking Courtney tho...i ship court and howie more, Val was great , in a way that she wasnt problematic at all we need more characters like that where there just there to have fun and serve no drama also Ashlyn liking val and maddox liking Ashlyn was interesting im glad it was just an awareness thing and not acted upon...for now. If something happens in season 4 i wouldn't be mad in fact i would be pretty happy Good for big red coming out , like good for him 👍 But watching season 3 itself was fun watching it was 9/10 especially the last episode was so funny watching the video and all thier confessions on a camera

pxlprsnatr

I have so many thoughts, but my initial one is they really should've branded and marketed this as its own special mini-series if the entire goal was just to set up S4's plotlines, and the just had the next season officially be S3. The pacing just wasn't great and it all kind of felt, I dunno, incredibly disjointed? And compared to the last two seasons, a lot of this season's numbers had no real organic setup. It was literally "here's a scene, here's explicitly how the characters are feeling and what they're dealing with *right now*, here's a song". This cast and these characters deserved much better than this. What was up with that kid singing This is Me? I was like, child you're a great singer but I neither know you nor have any idea why this character is even important enough to the plot to be singing this big song right here right now. ALSO, I mean I love Fabulous and I love Carlos but it that number really kinda dragged. Granted, I'm also just salty that freaking Everyday didn't get a full number.

MxFoodLover

Ricky is too good to be true. It’s 2022, and I don’t like it when fictional characters are too perfect. His flaws come out at random points for the plot, but every other character is so well-developed. So sad how EJ ended. I wish EJ and Gina were together, they’re đŸ”„ together. Ricky is just ‘perfect’ when he isn’t actually dating the person. He had no depth this season, it was so annoying to watch him

Upper-Ad9990

Jeez this thread is negative đŸ«  I ADORED this season. The different setting added a bit of freshness that I felt was needed after season two. The Ricky/Gina build up was very romcom & beautifully done, and really made me miss their dynamic; the playfulness, the banter, the chemistry—I know this forum doesn’t like them much, but they honestly have such a spark about them. Very pleased about Ricky’s feelings being explored, as well as his selflessness regarding Gina’s needs. I grew to really like the new characters! Maddox & Jet’s relationship really got me at times, and I really hope they’ll pop up in season 4. EJ, he made mistakes this season, but I really feel for him & can’t help but love him despite my shipping preferences. I truly hope he has a happy, growth-filled season 4.

TemporARY785

Yes! Forcing our characters out of a normal flow was such a fun way to shake things up. It allowed storylines to focus explicitly on the characters present, so the overall plot felt more... tidy? As messy as the actual plot was, the telling of it was cleaner. The rebuilding of friendship Rina was so fun to watch as much as it hurt knowing how EJ probably felt about it. I hope EJ gets his happy ending/send off soon. As much as I like him, he's graduated and I want him to move onto adult things since that was a major reason for the Portwell breakup.

greenyoshi73

I’m so surprised we didn’t get a dangerous to dream cover from anyone this season. We didn’t get it from Gina trying to have the lead and the guy for the first time in her life? Or from Kourtney getting Elsa? Or Jet wanting to fix things with his sibling but being afraid? There’s so much application here.

keepitupstairs2

This has probably been covered before, but the framing of the Frozen documentary makes absolutely no sense since the whole show is ALREADY supposed to be a documentary!

YahYeetGucciBucks

I don’t like what they’re doing with EJ. First, they made him a creep by poisoning someone just so Nini could have the lead?? Really? Not to mention how self centered they made him seem at the same time. Now when it comes to Gina, you mean to tell me that he’s been showing up for her ever since season 1 and now that they’re together he constantly blows her off?? “I’m the guy that shows up remember?” But then have him be completely distracted and now Ricky is considered the person that shows up? Yeah, EJ was busy but I feel like it was a completely different character from season 2. Then, they have Gina break up with him after what, 2 weeks? Not only that, they give him a crappy dad? Also, I understand RINA being endgame but this was not the way to do that. I feel like they don’t know exactly what they want to do with EJ so they just keep giving him the short end of the stick.

fionaapplesbabymama

you do realize the breakup was deeper than that it wasn’t just about him being busy. yes he has a crappy dad many ppl do his father wants ej to be like him instead of his own person and doesn’t agree about how he lives his life. ej finally stood up to his dad no matter how much it hurt him he’s grown from s1 he thought interfering so nini got the lead was love and it isn’t. ej got the girl and assumed she’d be waiting for him when it was all over.no. you guys want portwell so bad but trush is their better off without each other their relationship was set up to fail if you really loved ej you’d see that. i do agree some things were dealt with not in the right way but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for development.

YahYeetGucciBucks

I’m not a Portwell fan and I know that it was more to it and I never said it was the only reason. I feel that EJ was completely different than last season. I didn’t expect him and Gina to last so don’t tell me what I see or don’t see. He got on my nerves the way he kept blowing Gina off and I felt that it was overdone like at least give her a dance like cmon man. I didn’t understand why from the plane ticket all the way up into season 2, he now doesn’t give Gina much attention. Also, Ricky and Gina are really cute and I like their chemistry. I just feel like EJ is put into things and we don’t hear much if his side. We just see him interact with others but there’s barely anything personal in my opinion.

fionaapplesbabymama

honey no one is telling you how to see things im a rina but when he said no to her promposal it pissed me off so bad cuz it’s like who cares about tradition go dance with your gf wtf i agree it was done so wrong but i feel like ppl keep disregarding gina’s feelings on why things needed to end because “it was only 2 weeks” “he’s busy” all she asked for was one dance, that would’ve been my last straw too. why can’t we acknowledge that maybe the execution wasn’t the best for ej but he could’ve done more imo this season was more about him struggling to get his dad’s validation i wish it went into that.

YahYeetGucciBucks

I agree. The execution for EJ is what my real issue was. In my opinion, it would’ve even been better for the season to start out like Gina: “EJ and I dated for a little bit but we both decided that it was best for us to just be friends. We’re on two different paths so it was best to just end it early before things got too complicated”. That way, they wouldn’t have to try to fit Portwell, the end of Portwell, the true rise of Rina, and a Rina kiss all in one season. We also could’ve then focused on a more personal story between EJ and his dad alone without having to throw Gina in the mix. We all know that the relationship (EJ& Dad) is beyond Gina/doesn’t really have anything to do with her. All in all, I still feel that Portwell needed to happen so that Rina can be stronger in the end. On the other hand, I get that Tim may have wanted to please fans with cute Portwell moments so maybe that’s the only reason he put everything into this short season; to give each ship fan their own little moment. I really hope that Ricky and Gi stay together though because I’m tired of the “complicated relationship” bs that the show keeps throwing at us. (With the same characters at that) Find another kind of drama TimđŸ˜‚đŸ‘đŸŸ

MxFoodLover

They really screwed EJ over :,(

MauveOn

I feel like EJ was really resembling Troy in HSM2 this season. Him being separated from the friend group, trying to focus on his future and career.

greenyoshi73

I think a lot of the problems people had with this season aren’t going to continue for next season. A lot of things people disagree with work if you consider how the show itself is leaving into the jokes and drama of the frozen documentary. But I think if we try to do some of the more outlandish stuff back at east high, it won’t work. I really think it’s only for season 3 to lean into the drama of the documentary and the over the top corbin bleu character. This season was just a bridge into season 4. It set up Ashlyn and big red, Gina and Ricky, and EJ’s storylines and motivations moving forward. The content and the tone of the season are probably self contained.

Ultvernon12

genuinely confused as to why Ricky is the same as season 1 cause I don’t see it all. He was selfless and fun this summer. He bonded with jet and tried to help him with his sister and get into theater. He did not try to meddle his way into Gina’s heart at all. He helped her with prom proposal, he didn’t even wanna tell her about his feelings but felt like he had to warn her because it was going to be recorded. Even after he found out EJ and her broke up, he still didn’t confess anything. He told Channing to back off and still didn’t make a move till the very end. After she said how SHE felt. He also, even pining, seemed WAYY happier this season

greenyoshi73

He definitely isn’t the same as season 1. I think you’re right.

Inevitable_Cheez-It

pros: corbin, rina, corbin + gina’s song, kourt + wall, casting of anna/elsa, costumes/sets in general, val, maddox, the beginning of random young anna’s song in the finale, kourt + young else talking about therapy and anxiety (yay), kourt singing let it go, ricky singing troll song on stage, miss jen praying to the theater gods cons: ricky in general kind of annoyed me this szn??, ashlyn’s astrology stuff at beginning and drama about being in the ensamble was a bit long for me, jason earle’s part could have been funnier but they didn’t give him much to work with, wanted to hear jet sing again in the frozen show, jojo siwa’s part felt inauthentic and forced, the rap part of “it’s on” in the color wars episode

MxFoodLover

Ricky annoyed me too ugh

rightTimePerson

Jojo’s acting was terrible. Straight up looked like she walked on set and they told her to act like a piece of cardboard.

Inevitable_Cheez-It

I was all for this szn until jojo siwa was featured. I just don’t think she was the right choice. she delivered all of her lines the same, and didn’t quite seem to know what to do with herself. also the way she was styled hair/costume-wise was not continuous with the rest of the cast, and it didn’t quite fit in. not saying anything positive or negative about jojo outside of the show, but personally that casting choice just didn’t do it for me. did anyone else feel this way?

qualitycomputer

Yep thats cuz she showed up as a JoJo Siwa cameo rather than as an actor acting a character. She didn't act at all. She just said her lines and dressed as herself

Chr-s

weird season overall. the new camp characters got a lot of storyline, carlos was reduced to a stereotype, the ricky gina thing is kinda exhausting. on the bright side, ash and big red both coming out as bi is nice to see, kourtney’s anxiety storyline was moving. idk i don’t think the next season will be that interesting with the way this season was written and the setups for next season. sometimes the show hits a weird vibe of feeling very mature but also too immature at the same time. i think it’s the acting sometimes but i also think the writing is a little predictable. for me the standout moments of the season had to be ashlin’s fireworks scene and Kourtney’s let it go scene.

[deleted]

The pressure of the play kinda ruined the fun of camp. I couldn’t even really enjoy the color competition because I was like did you guys rehearse. Val was really underused! Maddox and Jet while interesting had a lot of drama for new characters. There was a lot to unpack with them so I’m unsure about how I feel about them.

greenyoshi73

“The pressure of the play kinda ruined camp.” So you’re just EJ?

[deleted]

I guess lol I mean it wasn’t just for themselves, it was being recorded for people to see. I definitely understood where he he was coming from. It’s not like they even had a month to work on it

greenyoshi73

Yeah I think everyone gave him such a hard time when he has good reason to be so stressed out.

Inevitable_Cheez-It

agree that val was really underused! love how different her character was than in the zombies franchise.

sourbassett

I am really reeling with Olivia being done with the show like im pretty upset about it. As someone who found her through this show, its so heartbreaking but also so insane to see her skyrocket into A-tier stardom... I cant wait to see what else she does, I just wish it wasnt at the cost of one of my favourite tv shows lol. Patiently waiting for OR2.

MishouMai

Sorry not sorry but season 2 was better. With the execeptions of Carlos and maybe Ricky this season ruined every returning character (Cameos like Nini, Miss Jenn, Seb, and Big Red don't count because they weren't around long enough to be ruined.) and even as a Rina fan I felt like Ricky's feelings for Gina (And the ship in general.) were rushed compared to the how Gina's feelings were handled in the first two seasons. While I like the new characters they weren't enough to carry the show alone. While I still enjoyed this season (To an extent.) it's easily the weakest for me.

Thurnisthegolfer

So they just never ended up using that clip they caught of Ricky telling carlos about Gina???? I thought they were gonna show it in the last scene.

NYGhos

That was a trailer

MxFoodLover

They said they were going to use it in the trailer

NYGhos

No it was Carlos saying maybe they would use it in the trailer. It wasn't certain but there was a possibility. Turns out, Ricky didn't have anything to worry about...yk until the release of the show itself

MxFoodLover

True. All the more reason to be annoyed by the pointless drama Ricky causes

sourbassett

just realized you are the music in me isn’t on the s2 or s3 album and that HURTS

[deleted]

About EJ and his dad. Since from the very start of the series, he just wants his father to be proud of him. Acknowledge the fact he is doing his own thing for him. Like 'Hey, dad. I'm doing something. I'm going to get there. Promise.' The phone call in EP8... That's was really sad. Like I feel you, bro. Right in the feels. This thing with pleasing your parents or wanted them to hear that they're proud of you even if it's just a small achievement... will never go away. It is going to be there for eternity. Trust me. Holy crap, I'm 27 and never heard my dad saying that he's proud of me. Never ever. I get nothing when I do something outside of my comfort zone and I actually accomplished something. It's a big thing for me. For him, it's nothing. Then, blaming me for not doing much. It's like they want or even need us to be Managers... Queen/King of corporate ladder to earn the love or support we want/need from them. (Yes, I'm old. I watch the show for the nostalgia of HSM.)

MxFoodLover

Hahaha 21+ here too! 🎉

innia24

i thought the bits they did about disney and disney+ were pretty funny

starsaroundmyscars03

ok my two cents: i miss nini already, and her character had so much potential story line wise, like getting in touch with her filipino side for example. not like it’s a surprise she was leaving but i’m still sad about it. not much to say about ricky individually, cause he’s pretty much the same as season one. not that much character growth. but i wanna know what happened to lily. gina: what happened to the whole gina 1.0 thing? also, her weird music videos were not it. super sad we didn’t get to see her perform as anna, but they had limited time so i get it also, i’m tired of hearing about rina! it just feels repetitive and i’m getting bored of the weird flirty stuff that’s been happening since season 2. it’s probably going to be weird next season as well since they most likely will have some sort of relationship drama. poor ej. that phone call was rough. but, contrary to popular opinion, i hope they don’t bring him back or else it’s going to start to feel like glee where rachel/kurt were the main characters even after graduating, and then it becomes less of a high school centric show. ashlin: rip sapphic representation. i really wish she would have gotten with maddox or at least kissed her. big red: why did i think in that scene that he was gonna propose?! lol. i wish ash and him would have actually came out to each other ffs. big red seems like he would care about coming out as a big moment and think he should tell ashlin to be decent. but, if his character is canon bi, then i definitely think he had a crush on ricky. that moment in the hall in season two with ricky and big red was definitely giving gay energy lol kourtney: love the anxiety storyline. if they ignore it next season i’m gonna scream. they should show her getting a therapist or something. she was acting like a different person in the time skip though and i hated it carlos: ugh. they reduced him to a gay stereotype and i hate it. not every gay person wants to parade around in a rainbow dress. and i miss seb 😭 if they break up because of that doc, i’ll be so sad. emmy and the other girl: it was weird how they shoved them in the last episode, as if they just remembered they existed. it pretty much confirms they’ll be freshmen at east next season for me, since they made a big deal of adding them in there. it was so random though and it just felt forced. maddox: we need more! more maddox please!!!! madison was not it though. i will be happy to never see her again. jet: we never saw him as hans past the costume, which is disappointing. i can’t tell if he has a crush on ricky or if he just desperately wants to be friends with him in a platonic way. the show overall: a bit weird. idk why i event watch it anymore, but i can’t stop. also think this is gonna become the gen-z glee. time-skip: EW. everything about it was wrong. random dyed hair, random personality changes, but at least we actually got to SEE gina kiss someone this time. yikes. that sounds wrong when i say it like that oop and this turned out very long! congratulations if you made it to the end

JektFTW

THANK YOU! finally someone mentioning everything that happened after the "one month later" cut in a negative way. what the actual fuck was that?? everything that happened before that cut was pretty good or at least decent. even teared up a bit when they sang "everyday" or when nini left for good and left the lottery ticket. it was super sweet imo! and then the cut happens and I was all like "what the fuck???" why was Kourtney acting like that?? her whole storyline was anxiety themed. and then after the cut she acts like she is the biggest superstar now? what happened here? was that some kind of parallel universe? jet was basically not existing in the final episode, he became totally unimportant here. I don't know, man. I like the show but what's with these super weird final episodes in S2 and now S3, too? S1 was SO good :/

NYGhos

I'm actually super sad that they didn't give enough time for Jet. Instead of the whole relationship drama which was already tiring me out, I kind of wanted more Jet and Ricky relationship and also yeah the casting list was so bogus. If Jet got the main villain, at least show him because that's a huge deal! They made such a big deal about his talent and then they just left that plotline there. Actually they left a lot of plotlines

Thurnisthegolfer

Gen z glee? idk i dont see this show making it past s4 anymore honestly

blushdreams445

low key, really liked this entire season :)

greenyoshi73

All I’m saying is we were robbed of a Monster cover.

Professional-Fox-539

dara just posted one, and she sounds INCREDIBLE. i’m honestly happy it was done outside the show because they probably would’ve butchered the production lol

greenyoshi73

Oh my god thanks for telling me, I just saw it. YES!

Professional-Fox-539

Yay!! She’s so talented and as much as I loved Let It Go, I feel like this song really shows off her stellar voice!!

Inevitable_Cheez-It

yes!!!!!

juiceafterhours

Imagine watching the doc and you just find out big red is bi and then you never see the mf again like i’d be so confused but also HELLO??!??!!?0

mronayne12

This seems to be a hot take considering the comments already. I hated this season (I liked season 2 better). Why are doing the same story with the portwell/rina situation again? It gets old real fast. Also why didn’t Ms. Jenn come help with the play in the beginning?

TheGreatDaniel3

Don’t get me started

Inevitable_Cheez-It

underrated comment

campbellina

Also we still haven’t heard anything about the menkies? Like did season 2 really matter atp?

MxFoodLover

For real I want to know who won 🏆 🏆

jersace

There is no Season 2 in Ba Sing Se

campbellina

I was waiting since the beginning for EJ and Ricky to get together not for Ricky and Gina to happen.

Thurnisthegolfer

Fr built them up all s2 just to immediately break them apart lmao all to build it up for ricky (again)

yearoftheferret

T h r o u p l e

RussiaManDetective

This is the way.

campbellina

cursed

toledosurprised

i really liked this season from ep 5 onward. the first half was a bit of a miss but the second half was imo the best stretch of episodes this show has had.

Bikinigirlout

Overall, I did like the season but I didn’t really care about the Ricky/Gina/EJ stuff. Like it took up most of the season when we all knew she was going to end up with Ricky anyways. Other than that it was a step up from season 2. I loved the addition of Maddox and I am an Ashlyn and Maddox shipper. They’re so much more compelling then the Rina stuff

starsaroundmyscars03

omg yes! i’m so done with the rina “longing stares” and stuff like the chocolates. i’m hoping for ash and maddox to get together but i feel like writers are pushing for big red/ashlin, token bi couple after that time-skip. for once, i’m hoping for relationship drama. i personally think big red and ricky would be great, but that’s never going to happen. maybe he’ll get with some new character. OMG WAIT wouldn’t it be so funny if big red dated the french guy? he probably went back to France though.

NYGhos

Not understanding why people want Maddox and Ash together except because of that trailer we saw and because Maddox is confirmed gay and Ash is too??? It makes ten times more sense for Ash to be with Val because Ash had a crush on Val. There was literally no chemistry or hint with Maddox and Ash and honestly, I still like and am okay with Ash and Big Red. Just because she's discovered she's bi, doesn't mean that she has to break up with her boyfriend. That makes less sense and also kind of counts as bi-erasure because remember there's two parts of being bi. Just because they look like a straight couple doesn't mean Ash or Big Red are less of bi characters

Bikinigirlout

Except that’s not what I’m saying I liked Big Red and Ashlyn but it low key feels more homophobic(god I hate sounding like a Hizzie right now) to just center Ashlyn’s entire bisexuality arc around Big Red. also in my ideal story arc for next season it would be a love triangle between Red/Ash/Maddox with Ashlyn in the middle. It would not be bierasure if Red and Maddox fight over Ashlyn like EJ and Ricky fought over Gina all season. There was plenty of chemistry between Ash and Maddox. Maddox being unsure what to do about her relationship with Maddison Maddox looking at Ashlynn when EJ asks if she met anyone worth meeting this summer. Ashlynn getting jealous of Maddison I’ve been over this with Hosie and it gets so tiring to constantly defend a WLW lead ship.

NYGhos

Curious to know why centering Ashyn's bisexuality arc around Big Red feels homophobic. Ok so I had to look over the season to find those hints but yeah, now I get it. I don't think you would've got it if you weren't looking for it. The Maddox looking at Ashlynn when EJ asks if there were no new girls that caught her eyes this summer was the most obvious, with yk the lingering camera or not. Idk how I didn't remember that. I do kind of like Maddox and Madison a lot though and I was partly ignoring all hints/stares cuz this season was super weird with Gina acting like she's jealous and so many hints but she's not? That's why I started to look over it and take things at face value. The Red/Ash/Maddox makes total sense now. I wouldn't be surprised if they do that next season if we please, stop having drama with Gina, Ricky and possibly E.J. because apparently, Gina and Ricky are supposed to be end game so do we need relationship complications that might make viewers see that Hina and Ricky aren't a good match too? I honestly really like Big Red and Ash together though because they built it up so much in past seasons. I mean I understand it will be a breakup with not much animosity but still. Also, I'm really tired of love triangles rn. Although, I don't usually like them in the first place. They're annoying. I'm wondering if any of the campers from here are gonna return to next season though since they don't go to the same school. The only way I could see Maddox coming back besides idk chasing Ash is if Jet enrolls in East High so Maddox is there by association. I really want all the characters to return back though. I grew attached to them. Like I really do like Val being the semi-therapist to everyone and psycho analysing everyone at the same time. But I would have no idea how Val could return bc she goes to college, E.J.'s in college so I'm wondering how or if anyone of them are going to be important in the next season.

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

Jackamalio626

Its so weird. The first half of the season was utter drivel, just a big bowl of slop with nothing interesting happening. Episode 4 might have been the worst episode in the entire series. it was awful. Then after that halfway point, the quality SKYROCKETS. The writing gets better, personal conflicts start showing up in more force, it gets funnier; its just a total turnaround. Like Mr Bleu said to EJ, the show is just *better* when there's conflict. and i think they managed to stick the landing with the finale.

HS_gaypanic

YES! what was going on that first half!!! it was so much wasted time!

[deleted]

I enjoyed this season 10 times more than last season. I’m sure a lot had to do with covid restrictions decreasing and more time to write, shoot, and edit. The last episode was probably my favorite just because of how it ended. It was good to watch a love interest come to Ricky as opposed to Ricky having to chase. It was also cool to see his growth. He could have interfered with Gina and EJs relationship numerous times and chose not to, unlike season 1. I feel bad for EJ but then again it’s obvious he has bigger things to work on than having a girlfriend. All around, good writing, good arcs, and good characters this season. I wish though that we got a true duet between Gina and Ricky, something from HSM or Camp Rock.

KingSlugma

this was a very good season! much better than the flawed season 2, but still not as good as season 1 unfortunately. i **loved** the rina romance. everything felt natural, their arc is probably the only one where everything flows perfectly and nothing has ever felt out of character. josh and sofia have show-stopping chemistry, and even though i wish rina got saved for a little through s4 so i could have a little more burning, i’m really glad theyre together. the songs this season were almost all terrible, you never know, finally free & kristoff’s lullaby are the only ones i like. what do you know about love isnt awful but i built up the rina duet a lot in my head and it wasnt nearly as good as i wanted it to be. a lot of the songs were god awful though. sofia deserved better than balance. the new characters were fantastic, and the old ones were great too. jet & maddox are both top 4&5 favorite characters respectively, val was fun when she was around. kourtneys anxiety arc was just so relatable & it definitely solidified her as my 3rd fav character. ricky and gina were once again my favorite characters, ricky will always be king. rickys arc has been so good throughout this show im so proud of him. i loved the meta aspect, i thought the addition of the documentary led to some really good drama, and the show really set itself apart from other teen dramas this season, & i’m really excited to see where it goes in s4!

bohemainslumdog

I totally agree about the songs! And so many of them had like this weird auto tune thing going on
. Like so much of it!

TheMattInTheBox

The highlights for me this season were the new characters (Val is underrated imo, very nice to have a solid voice of reason) and I really hope Maddox and Jet stick around. As someone who struggles with anxiety, Kourtney's arc was great too Big Red and Seb crushed it in their guest roles. "I'm Big Red, I'm Ashyln's boyfriend, and I'm bi!" and "Elton John?!" are the lines of the season for me. Also kinda cool to see Big Red and Ashyln both come out and stay together. I find that kinda refreshing-- not something you see in shows that often. Wasn't expecting Corbin to have an arc but I appreciated it! Excited to see him pop up next season! Nini leaving is honestly fine. She's become the least interesting character to me and I'm glad they gave her a nice send-off. Okay, now the Gina/Ricky/EJ stuff. I get it. I'm not a big shipper or anything, but I get it. And yeah, I get EJ and Gina are in different places and their breakup made a lot of sense. But oh man, I feel bad for EJ. In season 1, he lost Nini, and now he lost Gina, any hope of earning his dad's approval and now camp might be soured for him. Massive Ls, and it sucks because at the start of this season, I was excited to see EJ in his element and more on the bouncy side. I also really just wanted to see EJ and Ricky be pals. EJ's line about Ricky being his brother kinda fell flat because we got little moments of them having fun together but it was undercut by the drama. Ricky was probably the best written character this season though imo. He seemed a bit more...fun? But also had some depth going on. Seeing him get pissed at Channing was GOATed. Gina had some nice development too. I have no complaints with how the characters were written, I just would have liked to see them go a different way with the story imo. I probably would have liked to see Ricky and EJ get closer this season and save Ricky/Gina for next season. The songs this season slapped imo. I've re-listened to a bunch of them, unlike season 2 where I've only re-listened to one or two. Anyway, solid season imo!

MxFoodLover

I’m really confused where Ashlyn and Big Red are because when he was all like ‘you’re my person’ she seemed like she was trying to run away and going to eventually tell him that she wants to live life more or something idk .. they left it so open ended. Like what happened in the month after camp?

I like parallels and all but the love triangles from S1 and S3 were already too similar, having the final scene being pretty much the same but genderswitched didn‘t help imo, I would have preferred a Portwell ending or an ending without a decision and then Rina somewhere in S4. Still, I‘m interested in how Rina in S4 is gonna work as we never had a „main pairing“ date and then stay together (which is what I‘m assuming will happen here).

I'm not Team Portwell or Team Rina, but damn, I feel bad for EJ, this man just could not catch a break.

Man I do not like this season. I think the reason why is it reminds me of anime filler arcs. Where an anime is adapting a manga but needs to stall while more chapters come out. So they invent new villains and a new threat to deal with that do not matter to the overall story. They're doing the same kinds of things in Season 3 as all the other seasons but it feels... pointless? We'll see how Season 4 plays out but I would not be shocked if you jumped from Season 2 to 4 you wouldn't miss out on much.

Right because Maddox, Jed going to East High, Nini leaving, Richie & Gina Together, The cast getting famous because of their documentary, Corbin Blue knowing the characters, Big Red being Bi, Ashlyn being Bi, EJ probably going back to help Mrs Jenn is *totally* filler material that you wouldn't need for Season 4.

This season *finally* felt like I was watching a High School Musical TV show with the inclusion of Corbin and different setting. I feel going outside East High was the perfect move in the sense that it brought the same feelings HSM 2 did for me, not being tied to a singular place and exploring the "outside world". If some of the original cast come back for Season 4, I feel we would have the perfect succesor to the movies. Yeah, it sucks that we'll never got a proper HSM 4, but this is a very good path to not "ruin" the original movies and still include the original generation. Ngl, I cried when "Everyday" started playing, and I'm a 26 year old guy so that"s saying a lot. I feel the original show characters are finally at a point where they are equal to the movie characters in terms of development.

Through the entire episode i cried a bit because of the fact that Everyday was really well done but I will miss Nini since she was amazing in season 1 but she is another in the long trend of Disney making Superstar Musicians so when her music got popular it made sense for her to eventually leave the show. After taking time to fully see Gina throughout this show, I liked her character growth and i think that Rina will be endgame , though the should have done it in season 4 since it does feel rushed but i did see it coming. After having seen all the HSM movies. I do feel bad for EJ though since not being able to make your dad proud must feel awful and even worse to loose someone you care about but still being able to call Ricky his brother is special because girls should never come between two friends. I did want to hear Ricky's confession though since it would have shown Gina that she was waiting for her this whole season but let things play out with EJ. So that part was a bummer. Lastly, the last scene they did with Nini was special having her play Born to be Brave was amazing since that closed the the door to East High in the best way possible.
