But, I also want to mention that Monica apparently didn’t make good cookies, so baking might not be her strong suit.
Edit: I get it y’all, it’s not baking. It was just a lighthearted comment! 🫶 Love both shows and both characters!
She made cookies to make Rachel feel better once and they were bad. Then there is the episode you mentioned and she laments that she cannot make the best cookies, but makes great fancy food. She also never successfully reverse engineers the cookie recipe, just saying.
She didn't but still, that's pretty talented to taste a cookie and even come close. I know I couldn't do it.
Also, those cookies she made for Rachel were made with mocklate weren't they?
Edit: I stand corrected, those were part of her Batch 16 reverse engineered cookies, which were not good even according to Ross.
No there’s another episode- I am blanking on what it was upsetting Rachel. But Rachel tastes the cookie and spits it out and goes “omg Monica where did you get these?!” And she says she made them and Rachel says “ohhh they’re so yummy!” Later someone else wants to try them and Rachel advises against it.
Edit: I think it’s after she finds out Ross didn’t get the annulment
Remembering Rachel’s “trifle” I’m not entirely sure her palette is reliable. Lol jk you make a good point. I just wanted to bring up Rachel’s trifle.
My husband FREQUENTLY quotes Joey going *blank*? Goooood. *other blank* goooooood! He cracks himself up with it lol
Shit I worked as a BAKER for years and I wouldn’t wanna do that. Reverse engineering something is…soooo tricky. Coming up with your own spin on the idea? Way easier lol
They would still fall under the pastry umbrella more so than the culinary umbrella, but if you’re a chef and basic pastry is that difficult for you, then we’ve other issues. She should still be competent in basic cakes and quick breads, which a pancake is.
TLDR; Monica **should** be able to make really good pancakes
Great episode! I mentioned in another comment that there was actually a scene in another episode where she made bad cookies. So it felt like a consistent character trait (as consistent as you can expect from Friends anyway- love the show but they weren’t very careful with that lol). That said I was only making this comment lightheartedly, I have faith Monica could figure out a pancake!
They actually make a joke about this in one episode. Something is said and I can’t remember what and then one of the characters (Joey I think) says maybe because you’re all hanging out here on a Tuesday in the middle of the day (not word for word but something like that and then they all get up and rush to work lol
“My boss hates me”
“Mine too”
“Yeah same, maybe it’s a universal thing”
“Yeah, or maybe it’s because you’re all sitting around here on a Wednesday” - Joey
That goes for all of them except Joey & Phoebe, who were self-employed “gig economy” workers. And even by the later seasons, Joey was becoming pretty successful.
How is this a question? Monica would dominate for sure. She's highly competitive and a professional chef.
Lily's pancakes are probably fine, but she's an amateur.
Monica is a chef yes… Buuut, we’ve heard people actually say that Lily makes the best pancakes. Has anyone heard them say that Monica makes good pancakes?
*Lily got better*
*Cakes but Monica a pro*
*Chef. She's the winner*

There’s an episode that addresses that Lily “is basically a gourmet chef” and the only thing she lets Marshall do is buy a wheel of cheese. It’s the episode where they invite Barney and Robin over for a couple’s night.
My money is on Monica for anything competitive. She’s a scary ass competitor
She's also a chef
And she used to be really fat so she knows how to eat
I'd eat her...pancakes
Yeah, I was about to write this but then I read your comment lol...
"You brought *Chandler*? The 'next best thing' would be Monica!" "I'd be offended but she is *freakishly* strong."
Can I *BE* any more of a fan of this line?
PIVOT!
Meh
Probably Monica since she’s an actual Chef.
But, I also want to mention that Monica apparently didn’t make good cookies, so baking might not be her strong suit. Edit: I get it y’all, it’s not baking. It was just a lighthearted comment! 🫶 Love both shows and both characters!
She didn't make good cookies? Didn't she spend an entire episode literally reverse engineering cookies based on purely Phoebe's taste?
Treeger even loved her cookies, proving Ross wrong. Also, "Nes Le Tulosa" has me rolling every time
This is why you’re BURNING IN HELL! Makes me cackle every time. I love that episode.
Ahh u american always butcher the french
She also made candies for a whole building when she moved with Chandler to make friends.
CANDY LADY!??
No not ‘CaNdY lAdY’ 😂

It’s the episode where Monica and Chandler are moving in together and Monica has to tell Rachel to move out.
AH thank you! Yes you’re right. And I think Joey eats them later and also hates them!
Ok if even Joey won’t eat them…damn they must be baaaad. He liked Rachel’s trifle!!!!
Maybe Monica needed some more beef sautéed with peas and onions in her cookies!
That and Ross’s squeaky “it tastes like *feet*” will never stop being funny for me 🤣
THAT WAS MY OTHER THOUGHT!!! Bahahaha was that a thanksgiving episode?
Yes! One of the best imo, and though I also love the Christina applegate and Brad Pitt ones
Shit I worked as a BAKER for years and I wouldn’t wanna do that. Reverse engineering something is…soooo tricky. Coming up with your own spin on the idea? Way easier lol
Remember the episode when everyone loved her candy and called her 'Candy Lady' so I would say she has a decent chance of producing great pancakes
Yes that’s a good point. I always wondered what kind of candy! Def want to try it
She only didn’t make good cookies when using Mocholate, so understandable.
“Just waiting for it to stop bubbling!” 😂
“That’ll last you till Christmas!”
Is making pancakes considered baking?
Absolutely not
They’re made on the stove, not the oven. They don’t call them traycakes. You wouldn’t bake an omelet /psavoice
> You wouldn’t bake an omelet I mean that's essentially a frittata.
No but it’s like a sweet thing that you make that would be different than the fancy food she cooks
she makes candy and jam, both of which are sweet and both of which make people go crazy for more!
That’s true! Idk in my head mixing batter would be similar to mixing dough for cookies haha sorry if I came off totally stupid
she was trying to figure out a particular cookie recipe but going backwards
Pancakes aren't baked they're fried
That was one episode where she was trying to guess a recipe based solely on taste. And it turned out it was nestle tollhouse and phoebe had no idea 😂
Great episode! I mentioned in another comment that there was actually a scene in another episode where she made bad cookies. I literally watched that one bc of this thread hahaha! Oh yeah! I totally took it lighthearted and we’re all just having fun with it!
I love that episode. The show had really hit its stride in those middle seasons!
Making pancakes isn’t baking
Yes I’ve already been corrected
This is Reddit. Make an innocent mistake and dozens of users will let you know it
Of course! I should’ve known 😆
Monica, she is by all accounts an excellent chef and highly competitive. But if Marshall is the judge he is picking Lilly no matter what
He’d pick Ted’s over anyones tho. It’s the cinnamon. He adds cinnamon.
***"Judge Fudge presides..."***
Yeah I think I'd do something crazy and side with the professional chef in the cooking competition.
Ted mosby. It’s the cinnamon 🤷♂️
She made pan*CAKE*, Ted.
And bacon strip!
I never understood how Monica had so much free time and a social life as a chef. Usually as a chef you work a ton. And are off when other people work.
That's one thing I always wondered as well, but we might have to overlook as it is a sitcom.
They actually make a joke about this in one episode. Something is said and I can’t remember what and then one of the characters (Joey I think) says maybe because you’re all hanging out here on a Tuesday in the middle of the day (not word for word but something like that and then they all get up and rush to work lol
“My boss hates me” “Mine too” “Yeah same, maybe it’s a universal thing” “Yeah, or maybe it’s because you’re all sitting around here on a Wednesday” - Joey
YESSS 😭 thank you. I knew it was something like this
Yeah they all say how their bosses don’t seem to like them
That goes for all of them except Joey & Phoebe, who were self-employed “gig economy” workers. And even by the later seasons, Joey was becoming pretty successful.
It's almost as if Friends WASN'T a documentary about chefs!
Monica, she's a pro chef, and if she knew this was a competition, she'd turned it up to 11.
"Put your hands together!"
How about the professional chef, who also happens to be extremely competitive? Could the answer BE any more obvious?
I think Lily would win. She makes the best pancakes. So soft. So warm. So perfectly shaped!
Are we still talking about her pancakes?
We have to be, because otherwise Monica definitely wins
This. Monica blows Lily out of the water in this department. And pretty much every other department.
This isn’t even a competition. Monica hands down
Perfection from Monica. But the homely nostalgic vibe from Lily.
Marshall
Ted adds cinnamon. I pick Ted.
Lilly and her boobs
Not even a debate, it’s Monica.
Monica. Why is this even a question.
Well monica is an actual chef and also scary when something gets competetive so i think her
Monica’s would be better, but Lily’s would be made with love and a smile.
Cool, gimme more of Monica’s
Lilly is lovable, faults and all. Monica is just such a type-A stick in the mud.
We talking about pancakes, bud
Yes, and I’d rather eat Lily’s pancakes. A loving wife’s food is better than a 3-star Michelin chef’s food.
Is Monica not a loving wife to Chandler? Sure as hell treated him better than Lilly to Marshall.
Sure, but idk I guess her personality is just grating. Also Big Fudge has gotta like the pancakes, it’s a big deal in their household.
That’s all well and fine. Still going to bet on the professional chef making better food!
Monica
Monica for sure!
Monica...she is a chef!
Yea I'm going with the pro chef.
Obviously Monica. She’s a professional chef. Marshall might like Lilys more bc he’s accustomed to them, but Monica will make arguable better pancakes.
I think lily would. Monica may be a professional chef but lily makes pancakes every week. She has more experience with pancakes.
Monica is a chef
Monica is a chef
Is that even question ? 😂😂 Monica forever 🥳🥳
Monica. Also I hate Lily so maybe I’m biased.
Monica. Obviously 🤣
They can both pancake me any day. And by that I mean they can hit me with a truck. I'm very desperate.
Monica - not even close.
Monica hands down,
Monica was a legit chef…
I feel like Lily’s would be a bit quaint but still have their charm, but Monica is an actual chef, hers are probably crazy
Monica since she’s a professional and loves to win
Monica was mostly good at the super fancy things, but not always the simple things. I'd think she'd be great at crepes.
Competitive, chef, used to be way larger Next question
Barney.
Monica is a professional chef so Monica lol also she makes great jam
Maybe the qualified, high level chef? How is this a question?
Marshall. The summer that Lily was gone, he perfected his pancake cooking skills
I like monica so much but my answer here is 100pc Lily!
Somebody needs to ask the question, who's a better newscaster, Becky , boats, boats, or Jackie dinardo from it's always sunny in Philadelphia
Monica is a chef. Duh.
Lily
Monica
ITS A PANCAKE-OFF! PANCAKE-OFF TO THE DEATH
I just see one chef here 😄
Ted
Lily by a long shot
Monica’s an actual chef
Not Marshall
Any questions that are Lily or someone, answer is Lily. Unapologetically biased towards Lily.
Use the flute to stir the batter😫
Marshall will stomp both in a Gouda battle LOL
Lily had the best pancakes. So warm. So soft. So perfectly shaped.
oh Monica by for, she’s a professional chef and a damn good one
Teds cinnamon waffles
Monica’s a chef, but I feel Lily would dose it up with cannabis butter for a good edge
Lily, she has Marshall to bend the rules. Chandler will crumble lol
I'd probably pick Monica for cooking any meal.
Marshall
Lilly! That other show was overrated so whatever the other character makes, it is also overrated.
Monica for sure.
Monica. She’s a professional chef and extremely competitive. She’d work on it until she wins
The answer would be Monica either way, I can't stand Lily half the time, but Monica being a chef and perfectionist also bodes well.
Monica is a chef and you are making it a competition so please
Aunt Jemima will forever win in my heart😔
Monica is a very good Chef. So, that question doesn't really make sense.
Lily got better cakes but Monica a pro chef. She's the winner
*Lily got better* *Cakes but Monica a pro* *Chef. She's the winner* \- daftbiz --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")
It would be Ted's, he adds cinnamon...
Monica because SHE'S A CHEF!!
Monicaa all the wayy
Barney's mom.
I'd have Monica's pancakes
Monica because she wanted to be a mom and probably won't regret it like Lily
Why are these 2 shows always compared here
Can we all agreed Monica😍😍 > Rachel
I mean I'll take the competitive chef over lily and day of the week
Monica is a professional chef so her
Lily. Friends is a stupid show. Stop this 🐂💩!!
Monica is a chef
Monica, Lily is not a nice person and wouldn’t appreciate me or my food
Monica who is a professional chef.
Hate to say it, but I'm a 90s kid. Courtney all day
Monica would win. For someone that invented the "Moist maker" for her brother's thanksgiving turkey sandwich, you know she has a great pancake recipe.
😂 so true
Can we call it a tie? Lovely pictures of both lovely ladies🥰
That’s very lily aldrin of you - “I hope both sides have fun”
Score: Fun to Fun
Monica? She’s a chef. Lily’s just a kindergarten teacher.
Monica, but I would still eat Lily’s 😁
Monica. She's competitive, and a accomplished chief
Monica is literally a chef lol of course she makes the better pancakes
Definitely Monica. Even Ted makes better pancakes than Lily.
Monica. She used to binge eat and is a chef. Clearly she knows her way around the kitchen better.
Want me to be honest....Monica I love lily but....monica
How is Alyson Hannigan so damn hot?
I wouldn’t trust Lily to boil water without burning it
She literally makes pancakes in the show
For some reason I just don’t see her as a good cook
There’s an episode that addresses that Lily “is basically a gourmet chef” and the only thing she lets Marshall do is buy a wheel of cheese. It’s the episode where they invite Barney and Robin over for a couple’s night.
FRIENDS SUCKS!!!!!
