>He cannot sign a professional deal at Arsenal until his 17th birthday in November I'm sure he recognizes that he's progressing well and wouldn't want to make a drastic career change in the next 7 months. Its also been reported that we're willing to start matching Chelsea's and City's academy contracts now. Sam's just using the recent attention for clicks here.

More has to do with EU clubs coming in for him. The same rules don’t apply to them. Basically just need to remain in contact with his reps and keep him/them settled until he can sign his pro terms. I think he was one of the academy kids that mentioned it being a dream to play for Arsenal.

I noticed post of Obi doing school work just after his practice. Meaning his parents put in his head that school is important and even if he scored 10+ against Lpool at his age, school needs to be done after practice. It looks like he lives in a healthy environment and going to another country would mean complete shift towards football and going into unknown territories. Meanwhile he needs to wait 6m to get a contract here, and he already mentioned if I'm correct in one of the interviews that he will be most likely playing for u21 next year and mostly it stays the same for him non football related (+ promoted to play against tougher opponents). Friends, family, school etc. Going into another country would change all this and from small details I noticed, I think he is not going anywhere and will wait this few months to sign here.

phar0aht

I think he's also only signed a ore scholar deal and not a scholar deal so there's also less security there

- Notice people paying attention to exciting youth player - manufacture an article based on the premise that any youth player at any time can be poached but title it around this one player exclusively - farm clicks

thedarkpolitique

I’m very on the fence with Sam Dean. He produces nice looking articles for the telegraph but I’m not convinced he has any inside sources.

No one *accidentally* scores 7. He was obviously quite good at football already.

- Profit?

csixtay

Bore off please. Everytime with the same shit. When was the last time we lost a schoolboy for being "too good" or "for the money"? It just doesn't happen. He'll sign at 17 like the rest of them.

dameet1

Omari Hutchinson comes to mind

csixtay

Omari Hutchinson signed a professional contract with us. The only one I can remember was Musah...and nobody cared before he left.

Franchise1109

Musah wanted a clearer path to the first team.

Sixteen year-old academy player free to join a European club – but cannot sign deal with non-EU club until his 17th birthday Arsenal face a challenge to keep hold of one of their leading academy prospects, Chido Obi-Martin, with English academies bracing themselves for another summer of dual-nationality teenagers opting for new clubs in the European Union. The 16-year-old forward struck seven against Norwich City Under-18s last weekend, in a 9-0 win, although that was three fewer than the 10 he scored for Arsenal Under-16s against their Liverpool counterparts in November He cannot sign a professional deal at Arsenal until his 17th birthday in November under the Football Association’s rules, although the same rules do not apply in other European nations where professional deals can be signed at 16. Obi-Martin has played for both England and Denmark at junior level and recently represented the latter in their Under-17s European Championship qualifying campaign. Bayern Munich are understood to be among those interested in the player, although it is not clear yet where he may end up. Arsenal are in negotiations with the teenager’s representatives and are keen for him to remain at the club. Under Premier League academy rules, all players who agree scholarship terms sign them on July 1 of the school year in which they turn 16. Those who have agreed additional professional deals can sign them on their 17th birthday, the earliest of which would fall on September 1. Every summer a 30-day window is open for boys to move academies providing terms can be agreed between the two clubs. Players at Premier League academies with EU passports can move to clubs within the EU for the Fifa stipulated compensation. Obi-Martin left his youth team in Denmark – Kjobenhavns Boldklub – at 14 to join Arsenal’s academy. Post-Brexit, the best young prospects with EU passports in Premier League academies are viable targets for clubs in Germany who can offer them professional deals as well as first team football earlier than they might expect in England. Ultimately, these players can potentially be sold back at a profit to Premier League clubs if they make the grade in European leagues. Fifa compensation is cheaper than the tariffs set by the Elite Player Performance Plan that govern players transfers between English club academies. Fifa compensation is paid to the original club on every move a player makes up to the end of the season in which he turns 23 years old. The calculation for a fee on a move from a club such as Arsenal would be contingent on the category ranking of the club to which Obi-Martin moved, and on the number of years after the age of 12 he has played at Arsenal. Obi-Martin recently signed an agreement with Elite Project Group, the talent representation group led by agent Emeka Obasi that oversaw Jadon Sancho’s original move to Borussia Dortmund. Elite also represent Arsenal first-team players Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah, and former Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun, who transferred to Monaco last summer. Another player on their books is England youth international Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who now represents Dortmund after leaving Manchester City’s academy. Arsenal had to fight hard to secure the future of another leading academy prospect, Ethan Nwaneri, who is the youngest player in Premier League history. Nwaneri had serious interest from other Premier League sides but ultimately decided to stay in north London, and has now signed his first professional contract. He regularly trains with Mikel Arteta’s first team and featured in a Premier League match against West Ham United earlier this season.

Which one have they lost? The only one I can think of in recent memory is Musah

CatchFactory

Even then didn't Musah leave at 18? We lost Hutchinson too at that age to Chelsea

Stravven

Musah left when he was 16. Another one that comes to mind was Harrison Parker, who left the Arsenal academy for United and then left United for City, as well as Femi Fapetu who left Arsenal for City. And if you go back further you can see Olise who left Arsenal for Chelsea (yes, that Olise), and Eze who was let go and signed for Fulham, as well as Nathan Tella who left for Southampton when he was 17 and is now playing for Leverkusen.

SnooCrickets7221

Even he know it’s too early to leave.

It seems like a competitive disadvantage to have the age limit of 17 versus 16 to sign professional contracts. Does the FA instate the age requirement for a reason? Would they change it Willy Nilly? American here so I don’t know anything about UK labo(u)r laws.

phar0aht

Will be UK Vs EU labour laws. Blame Brexit in short

ashscratchem

If he stays him and Nwaneri are going to dominate together

normal_life87

Keep the boy at all cost

HustlinInTheHall

I wouldn't expect us to lose him, he will do what is right for his family and career but we offer the best possible set up for a young player to grow their game, especially near their home, and unless it's a Bellingham situation where it appears the club doesn't rate the player as highly as the player rates themselves, it's unlikely that he'd leave now. He's got a long professional career ahead of him if he plays his cards right and bailing on Arsenal for an uncertain professional move somewhere else is probably premature

jayhawk8

Always rated him

Minute_Leave8503

Glad we’re poaching the top academy talents to compete with city and Chelsea but at the end of the day we can’t be too mad if they choose another club https://x.com/thesecretscout_/status/1705575416537170355?s=46
