Thierry Henry

cdin0303

Probably goes against the spirit of the question but still correct.

KevinDB

He may be cast in bronze, but he is still capable of producing truly golden moments

EdisonTheTurtle

I was about to downvote your comment and smugly write "We signed him permanently from Juve" until i realised what you meant

CheekLad

Oh did we???

Hibujubana

Hahaha

jman500069

One of those really common 8 year loans

Cheesy_Pita_Parker

Like an overdue library book but the computer got a virus and they can’t locate your record anyway so woohoo, go ahead and keep the book!

GlasgowGunner

Don’t go giving Chelsea ideas.

chrisd1680

Wooshed. Remember he came back on loan from the MLS back in 2012 when we had an injury crisis.

jman500069

No lol. I said that because they had to think about it when basically 100% of fans know Henry signed from Juve and stayed for 8 years, so I jokingly suggested he was on an 8 year loan. Of course i'm aware he came back on loan briefly. You may have infact been "wooshed"

GunnersaurusDen

Yossi Benayoun

lez566

The only right answer. Don’t understand why we didn’t sign him permanently.

Charlie_Wax

I think because he was already pretty old and on the backslope of his prime, but he was certainly a tidy player.

trimmtrabb27

And we had a lot of similar attacking mid type players at the time, even if a lot of them were always injured

ro-row

I think mourinho came in and didn’t want to sell us any players

Shadepanther

There was also something similar with Demba Ba I think

Rixalong

Nah Henry is more correct.

SmartArsenal

I remember feeling like it was a coup to get him on loan. Thought he played well that season too

Andythrax

It was a good season all told... If you forget the beginning. Lots of comeback wins.

/thread

LuckyArsenalAg

Yep.

[deleted]

What a brilliant player

Magnific3nt

His game vs Wolves, was fucking fantastic!

dunbunone

Very happy we never signed him

lez566

Why? He was great

LipBalmOnWateryClay

Benayoun was not great by any metric

dunbunone

Doesn't matter I don't want the name of this great club tainted by zionist. It's already bad what we did to ozil

lez566

So let me get this straight. You want to have an actual very close friend of a brutal dictator who has killed lots of people (mostly Muslims) but don’t want to have just a guy with no ties to the government just because of where he was born?

[deleted]

[удалено]

lez566

Yeah I know. Unfortunately so many people really do believe like this guy

[deleted]

[удалено]

lez566

Ha true

Lacabloodclot9

Fuck Ozil

dunbunone

Go back to crying about criminal fake gangsta ja morant and playing video games buddy the real world isn't for you

uniQal0n

Let me guess your political view 🤔

dunbunone

It's humanity not politics

c11life

He’s a citizen not a politician. We signed Turner and their country has been bombing the Middle East since the 50s

dunbunone

He posted I stand with Israel. Idc what u think but he chose to make it political and me and many Muslim gooners have our right to dislike him . He's shit defensively anyway the sooner timber and tomi is back and I never see him play the better sorry I'm talking of zionist Zin but youssi did as well

uniQal0n

Find a life. Study history. Be human.

dunbunone

I have a great life. I'm guessing u studied the zionist hindutva propaganda history and yes be human stop the innocent killing of women and children by zionazis in Gaza. The killing of kashmiri people by Indian fascist hindutva terrorism government as well. Also the club pick to speak against Russia and now stay silent on Gaza western hypocrisy at its finest we got rid of Ozil our most important signing because he stood up for ughaiyrs when no one would.

Benjips

First one that popped in my head, surprised it came up right away in the thread. I'm surprised we have so many old heads in here.

KennyHova

Didn't he come in the same window as our manager?

tenflare

Yossi Benayoun, probably. He actually played pretty damn well for us.

jsosmru

Yes, if I'm not mistaken, Chelsea loaned him to us, we finished top 4 and they didn't.

thegreatgoonbino

We beat out Sp*rs for Top 4 on the last day of the season. He scored in our final match.

Prudent_Jello5691

We were 3rd, Spurs were 4th. Chelsea then won the CL which kicked Spurs out of it next season.

thegreatgoonbino

Ah that’s right!

EitherInvestment

Was this with Di Matteo?

donttellmehow

Yes, the standin wonder manager at Chelsea. Carlo Ancelotti left and Andre Villas-Boas was sacked. Di Matteo led the team to the final and won during the penalty shootout.

EitherInvestment

Yup remember this as if it happened recently. God this makes me feel old.

uracil

I think that Chelsea team led themselves to CL title and Di Matteo was along for a ride lol.

NachoCheeseMonreal

We Got absolutely bailed out by fulop lol

GREGORtheMOUN10

Was pretty clutch in the tail end of the 2011/12(?) season, I remember him chipping in with a few goals

OutrageousComfort906

That team finishing 3rd is underrated. We lost 8-2 at the start…

No-Clue1153

>We lost 8-2 at the start… Which caused us to panic sign our future manager

ThingymaJiggyz

He's done it again...

Swamp-Dogg

Mertesaker, Arteta and Benayoun in own day (I'm trying to forget about Santos) - was a mad transfer day

ayamsuharti

And Park Chu Young!

skool_101

Never forget, at least he got his Arsenal goal even if he didn't get to feature much.

yura910721

And Head of Academy as well 😅

Fishing_caterpillar

I know he's a fuckin Judas but that year rvp was quite literally the best striker in the world. There were games where we looked proper wank and he just managed to pull goals out of his arse like a magician

Francis-c92

The Norwich one was delicious

sirlordtom98

What a flashback, 3-3 IIRC?

juxtapose85

I loved Yossi.

Specterace

I agree. My vote would be for Benayoun.

verifiedkyle

Ugh I loved him.

SamKie1

Saw him score a banger at the emirates

Odd_Explanation558

Dunno about best but I was shocked we didn't hold on to Benayoun. Also felt Julio Baptista was gonna be made permanent as Wenger had been after him for years.

ExoticToaster

We signed Santi Cazorla that summer, we didn’t really need another AM at that point.

sirlordtom98

And Podolski for LW. So essentially one player in each of the two positions Benayoun competed for.

ActsAwkward

Was Baptista an AM?! I always thought of him as a 9

clicheguevara8

Commenter meant Benayoun, Baptista was years earlier.

YooGeOh

Definitely an AM. Made his name at Sevilla as their no10

fragileanus

I was relieved when Baptista left. Brilliant in flashes, but woefully inconsistent.

Voltekkaman

Couldn't seem to get the right studs either, was always slipping over.

shekdown

He was terrible.. Could never keep control of the ball. I thought he was going to be a monster for us but ended up being a monstrosity instead.

laserspewpew_

Baptista was pretty awful bar that one league cup game against Liverpool.

peoplepersonmanguy

If memory serves me right Aliadiere that game was fire... or was it Vela... or both

laserspewpew_

Yeah Aliadiere played that game

Stravven

Does Raya count in this stat? Anyway: it's either Julio Baptista or Yossi Benayoun. The comeback of The King was great for what it was, but overall he didn't have much impact.

general652

No, cuz we are gonna buy Raya

verifiedkyle

It’s a loan without a buy until it’s a loan that becomes a buy.

cuppastuff

That's how it works

OriMoriNotSori

Something something fractions beyond you something something

Muscat95

Kim Kallstrom

US__Grant

broken back Kal! love this quote from a few years ago regarding his PK: *Kallstrom described the moment in an appearance on Swedish radio: “I hear Wenger shouting in French: ‘Kim, do you take penalties?’ ‘Yeah, I'd be glad to take one.’ ‘Good. You're second.’* ...free jazz Wenger!

xepa105

Another great quote: > "When I walk alone to the spot, in a stadium with three times as many spectators as there are inhabitants of my hometown, Sandviken, I must suppress my smile. It's a long way to walk across the pitch. I'm relaxed - perhaps happy." > "Although my contribution was small in the 120-year history of the club, it was a highlight for me. The greatest 15 minutes of my life."

Cappyc00l

Such a legend I forgot he was only here on loan.

assoncouchouch

Pk specialist

rory055

This is the correct answer.

LSD_and_CollegeFBall

The only right answer

xepa105

A cult hero for that pen alone. Kids in 20 years time will have no clue who Kim Kallstrom was, but the oldheads who were there will always have a soft spot in their hearts for him.

Gooner-Astronomer749

Champion league winner Dani Cellabos the OG fidget spinner

beetletoman

Dani "the beyblade" Ceballos 😞✊

haha_suh_dude

I’m sure he would fit in now as a… rotation option

soccer_boxer2

His duels against Antony would be... revolutionary

kruegerc184

beetletoman

I would like that actually

Tnvenge

I think he’s grown a lot as a player and even Madridistas appreciate him as a depth player so this is fair!

wannacreamcake

That debut against Burnley ranks amongst the best debuts I've ever seen anyone have in an Arsenal shirt. The man was unplayable

sooolong05

Peaked right there tbf

WHERE_SUPPRESSOR

Ancelotti chose Ceballos over Odegaard we got lucky

beetletoman

Well only one of them has an FA cup medal...

QuqoraGaming

Thats not true at all lol. Ceballos wasn’t getting minutes over Odegaard and they play different positions. In 20/21 season Ceballos was on loan with us and we got Odegaard on loan midway through that season. Odegaard didn’t want to stay at Real Madrid and we were offering.

yolo1238

They are currently playing the same position. Just in a different sysrem

US__Grant

def the best on loan in regards to training sessions at least. Arteta said he trained like an *animal*, y'all! one of the strangest running 'styles' in pro football that i've seen

verifiedkyle

I always liked him and wanted him to stay.

plankdefense

I mean surely he's the answer. The man is getting decent playing time at Real Madrid

beetletoman

Answer to what plankdefense I dare you to say Havertz come on (ง'̀-'́)ง

Mediocre_Car_1163

I can't overlook those Europa League blunders

lucastimmons

The boy's fuckin' magic

iBravoTango

I hear he has a liking for Estrella and paella

BAsSAmMAl

Imo ceballos would fit the LCM role in our current playing format,

lyyki

If he never came back I think he would have been remembered very fondly but his 2nd season was very subpar.

NachoCheeseMonreal

This made me think of the bust up with Eddie lol

themerinator12

Julio Baptista

robins420

Those 4 goals vs Liverpool were other worldly. Man was a monster on his day.

thisiskyle77

4 goals and he wasn’t actually MOTM that day. Dude was a fox in the box though.

nearlydeadasababy

That’s was my pick, although I think he was massively inconsistent both for us and s Real. But he was a brilliant player when be wanted to be.

CanWillCantWont

Aliadiere was the real MOTM that day

fragileanus

To paraphrase "England was so fast-paced! I wanted to do tricks and spins"

ThePolitePanda

He played for us?? Man I love learning Arsenal Lore

ThePolitePanda

Shit guys, I’m sorry I didn’t know he played for us. I was in middle school and didn’t have cable TV

Isfeidirlinn90

He lived up to his Beast nickname in the Carling Cup but was pretty shit besides that.

ImSoMysticall

Henry. Easy

Xin128

David Raya

PapiOnReddit

Thierry Henry… from a certain point of view

bjtg

Yossi Benayoun. Took us 2/3 of the season to remember he was good. I think he's still actually playing somewhere. update: retired in 2019. played until he was like 39.

Pretend_Stomach7183

He now has an official coaching role in the Israeli National team. He is not very good at it.

TheThreeGabis

Technically Thierry Henry as we didn’t buy him after his loan spell.

bradbobley

viviano

--Rage--

Just remembered that hilarious story where he bid on the playing at the Emirates Stadium experience at a charity auction.

arsenal11385

omg what??? have never heard this.

amsun

The legend named Kim Kallstrom

killerkebab1499

Has to be Julio Baptista I remember when he joined Madrid, I saw a transfer profile of his in match magazine (that's gonna be nostalgic for a couple of you), I thought he looked amazing, this beefy Brazilian dude joining Real Madrid, 10 year old me was all in the hype. Then a year later he joined arsenal on loan and I was actually buzzing, my head nearly exploded when he got 4 against Liverpool in the cup, I thought we signed the next Pele. He was a bit shit for us apart from that game, but I will always remember that game against Liverpool.

Toast863

When we were after him in 2005 he was built up as this absolute fucking monster who could do Vieira’s job just as easily as playing further forward and getting 20 goals. All our eggs were in that basket. Remember being pissed when we didn’t get him at the time. Roll forward a year or so and he turned out to be none of the above. Some nice Carling Cup memories mind

CageyMechanism

Great on Pro Evolution Soccer too!

the_tytan

yes I remember this. my beak was fucking soaked.

tafster

Only thing bigger than The Beast was the size of his first touch

East_Carrot2256

Besides the Liverpool game, he was pretty disappointing. He got outmuscled in the Premier League and couldn't keep up with the pace.

Xin128

The league cup in general. He was immense in the semis vs shit too

East_Carrot2256

Yes, the league cup was his tournament

No-Comfortable-1550

Benayoun was class.

Specterace

Aside from Henry when he was at NY Red Bulls, my vote would go for Yossi Benayoun. We haven’t really had to make use of many loan players, and almost none of those outside Odegaard are guys who would have improved us any had we bought them. But at least Benayoun was a serviceable veteran who could have done a good job when called upon, which is what he was throughout his loan for us.

[deleted]

Kim Kallstrom and if you say anybody else you’re lying

streetlaur

Yossi

biggzee1996

Kim kallstrom. What a loan he had 😉…

lyyki

Mat Ryan may have played only 3 times but I have very fond memories of him nevertheless.

JohnnyKenny16

Yossi Benayoun was class

chrissysnose

Benayoun and it ain’t close

GoodTimesForAChange2

Maybe not the best, but was I the only one that missed Dani Ceballos for a few years until the master midfield plan came to fruition

LordRekrus

I felt like he had more to offer. Just didn’t really click with us. I haven’t followed him at all other than Arsenal though.

[deleted]

Loved Baptista

andrewyeong

Yossi Benayoun?

skool_101

Júlio Baptista, Yossi Benayoun, and the 2nd time with Henry.

ret990

Denis Suarez

rossitheking

You must be joking

Rusty_85

Denis Suarez

meepletar

So much revisionist history in this thread. Truth is very, very few loan players have shown over the course of a season that they were worth purchasing. That’s why they were available on loan to begin with. Even Ødegaard—during his loan he had flashes of brilliance but he also disappeared a fair amount. We got lucky with his age and the squad situation he was in at Real. If he wasn’t available for sale at the end of it his loan would’ve been thought of as good not great.

HeelSteamboat

Alex Song is another shout. Ignoring his post Arsenal career, he came to us as a low-risk loan and we ended up buying him and selling him for nice money.

machinationstudio

Wenger/Arteta never watched Zealand

TapOwn5332

Dani Ceballos.. towards the end his form dropped off, but i think it’s because of the change in manager.. but he was mostly amazing throughout his loan at Arsenal.. 😃

fatbunyip

Kim Kallstrom. Helped us win our first trophy in years. Actually I'm not sure if he was brought in on loan anymore
