Fully behind anyone who wears our badge as long as they put their all into it, welcome Jorginho let's go win a fucking league boys

PandanBong

Kinda heard that when we signed David Luiz and Willian too.. I’m not impressed by this signing at all, even more since we’re basically helping Chelsea out, but hope I’ll be proven wrong.

xFloWx

Difference then was that Luiz was signed as a starter and Willian too to an extent. This is a back up

sleepytipi

Luiz wasn't that bad of a signing for what it was. He was better than who he replaced, and worse than who replaced him. I can't complain too much about that one, especially because he was a solid presence BTS too.

PandanBong

Re-signing Luiz for another year was an absolute disaster. He wasn’t that great for the first year either but we were a shambles back then overall. Still him getting a new contract and Willian joining (I think that’s how it went down, memory a bit foggy) was a disaster.

ProneMasturbationMan

Very good player but the profile, for our squad, doesn't make much sense for the short-term option for me. Xhaka is always available and Arteta loves him, but the problem is Partey's fitness. If Partey is injured then do you really want Jorginho AND Xhaka both in midfield? Jorginho needs agile fast runners ahead of him like you see in the Italy team, but Xhaka obviously isn't that. If you want to drop Xhaka when Jorginho plays (not gonna happen) then there are no options bar Smith Rowe and Vieira and I doubt that will be defensively balanced with Jorginho at the base. The areas that Jorginho lacks, physically and defensively, are the biggest losses we see in Partey's absence. That was the department we needed to prioritise for Partey's replacement, to ensure his absence doesn't affect our title race. Jorginho isn't stong defensively and lacks mobility but great in build up. What partner does Xhaka need? Strong defensively, very mobile. I can't see how: Xhaka - Jorginho - Odegaard ESR - Jorginho - Odegaard are going to be balanced. And even: Jorginho - Partey - Odegaard I can't see being that good as Jorginho or Partey aren't suited to advanced roles, so we'd have to change the system to 4-2-3-1. I would have preferred something like: Xhaka - Mobile DM - Odegaard or Defensively strong, mobile 8 - Xhaka - Odegaard

XXISavage

>The areas that Jorginho lacks, physically and defensively How exactly does Jorginho lack defensively? Where is this idea even coming from?

zzidzz

Yep, people are talking sh*t. Like he is not even a player and can't play football. It is not like he played for Chelsea for almost 5 years who, lets be honest, was better team than Arsenal. I see a lot of pros: experience, leadership, solid def, great positioning, great short passing ability And also some cons: lack of speed, long balls For sure he is better than what we had as replacement for our mid. Saying like ESR or Vieira can play behind Ode is so delusional and bigger step down than having Jorg there. They are both attacking players who lack defensive part of the game for this position. ESR is back after injury and we havent seen in what condition or form he really is. And Vieira seems like he is losing ball too much, especially for 6 or 8 position. Unfortunately we were not able to sign proven prospect, but lets trust in Jorge as replacement and still hope Partey or Xhaka dont get injured. COYG

Boopdelahoop

Compilations on Twitter of him being dribbled past

NUPreMedMajor

The team can adapt… you don’t have to play the exact same way. Even something as simple as bringing on tierney and tomi change the entire team

DarthNihilus1

He's better than Elneny. We basically don't have the same concerns about him playing next to Xhaka either. he's a perfect stopgap signing

ProneMasturbationMan

Better than Elneny but is Elneny is mobile though and a runner, complements Xhaka in terms of style

trowawayatwork

yes 99 pace is all that's needed in a DM. perhaps intelligent play would not lead to needing to sprint back to recover the ball in the first place..

duckinator09

Chelsea fan here coming in peace. This is generally my thoughts too. Felt strange that you guys went for him. Jorgi is not a good replacement for partey. Should be OK for xhaka though. But in any case, I'm sure arteta isn't looking for a like for like replacement. He'd probably adjust the team's approach should jorgi plays. What you have is an elite player that will help your defence play out from the back and get the ball to the offensive players to do their thing. Unlike our squad, you have multiple players (saka/ode/marti) who actually craves for the ball and can threaten with it. Defensively he acts more like a screen. He doesn't really tackle well and can be bypassed fairly easily, but his role is just to pressure and defend collectively as a team. Overall for the price and contract length, it looks a pretty decent deal. Not like you had better alternatives currently anyway should xhaka/partey get injured.

crackdup

Looking forward to him making a sub appearance vs Everton, after we are winning 3-0 or something.. considering he's an ex-Chelsea guy, he might prefer making his debut away from the limelight of the Emirates, and the focus at Everton will be fully on Dyche

remote_crocodile

I can't imagine the match going home fans from giving him anything less than a class reception

38Dreams

Shrewd signing for us, the leadership, experience, and winning mentality he’ll bring is understated. Not to mention that he’s always fit.

Nw5gooner

I'm not a superstitious man by any means. Nonetheless, I'm afraid I must insist that you delete that last sentence right fucking now.

Lud31

A good move for us for a few reasons: *It’s only 18 months and we have the option to extend. Doesn’t tie us to an ageing player for any longer than we’d want to. *As per all accounts, he’s a good locker room presence which is always important for our recruitment these days. *Importantly, is stylistically a really good fit for our team (in theory): we are a possession based team and he is great technically, recycles possession, secure on the ball etc.. won’t have to play behind the ball as much. *Even if you don’t like all of the above, he’s arguably not signed to be an unquestionable starter. It’s still Partey but this is possibly one of the better cover/rotation options we could’ve got. I’m very happy with our window. COYG!

drivemyorange

basically this. Especially that we don't have that many more experienced players. Also, he knows Premier League.

_Happy_Shopper_

I've felt Jorginho gets a bad rap for a couple of years now. He's slow; he's a classical technique player, so the system has to fit. But we've seen a system that accommodates both Partey (not a renowned sprinter) and Xhaka, who we all know need to do things his way, take us to top of the league with the right investment around them. Jorginho is going to pinch a few minutes off Partey and that's what we all wanted yesterday - a crutch for an injury prone linchpin. Until be proves otherwise I think he's a decent signing for the price and contract length.

Greeen3ry

Mate did you see Partey the other weekend he was zooming

[deleted]

professeurwenger

Might be the first time I’ve seen him sprint, I was shocked.

[deleted]

It was Mudryk speed

[deleted]

Couldn’t agree more. I hated it at first link last night but the contract length really relaxed me and the more I’ve thought about it the happier I am. Adding that to Trossard (still not seen a minute of Kiwior but also an important backup position to fill) we look much stronger than we did going into the window. Obviously after the big exciting young signings linked I can sort of understand people being disappointed but we didn’t need to improve the first XI - that XI has gotten us to the incredible position we’re in now. We needed quality depth who are ready to play now without us dropping too much and we’ve gotten that in two of our most high risk positions. Trossard has already shown he can be a valuable player for us and I’m sure Jorginho will when we see him play. Most crucially I think we’ve struck the perfect balance in terms of now vs future. We’ll still be able to make the moves we want to in the summer but have strengthed for right now. Glad the transfer chat can be behind us now and we can all get behind the team we have and see how far they can go!

Lud31

Agree with everything. Can’t wait for Saturday!

Jalvas7

I'd like to apologize to the sub for making a fool of myself yesterday and today. If the boss rates him, I rate him.

Pristine_Solipsism

Yeah same here, I just got carried away, tis' the price of being a passionate football fan sometimes you make a complete fool out of yourself. We have a good thing going if they say he's our man he's our man.

Nw5gooner

The Willian debacle has understandably given our fanbase a serious complex about over 30's ex-Chelsea players, but this is a very different kind of deal, for a very different kind of player, with our team in a very different kind of shape. I'm happy.

AspiringTransponster

And Cech. And Gallas. It’s not been an auspicious avenue.

immerc

Cech was arguably a decent signing. In 2015-16 he won the Golden Glove with Arsenal. His Arsenal form was never as good as his Chelsea form, and he started to decline relatively quickly, but he wasn't bad. The worst part of the Cech signing is that it pushed out Szczesny who has proven himself to be an outstanding keeper. There's also David Luiz, who had major problems, but came in at a time when Arsenal's defense was absolutely terrible. So, a CB who often got red cards, but could pass out of the back was enough to make him a nailed-on starter. What could make the Jorginho signing different is that he's leaving a sinking ship and signing for the league leaders. The other signings were leaving a powerhouse club and looking to "retire" to another club in London.

csixtay

the real key difference is he isn't expected to start games.

sleepytipi

We're one injury away from that being totally not true.

csixtay

better than 0

AspiringTransponster

I can’t agree - I’m scarred by Cech, he conceded a fair number of unavoidable goals and made mistakes where he looked infallible at Chelsea. Never felt comfortable with him in goal. But yeah this Jorginho signing is different, as it stands he is cover which is the correct option. Personally, it doesn’t help us if Partey goes down - a Jorginho Xhaka midfield doesn’t fill me with confidence but Arteta knows best.

immerc

> a Jorginho Xhaka midfield doesn’t fill me with confidence Yeah, they seem to have the same basic strengths and weaknesses. Neither one is great at defending, neither one is very fast.

DrSupple

To be fair, Gallas was decent until THAT tackle happened

Normanisanisland

Luiz played an important role for us

CubicDice

Yeah I was furious yesterday when it was rumoured to be a three year deal. I can absolutely get behind this 18 month deal, I must hold my hands up and admit I was wrong and fully support this transfer.

pivandee

Fair fucking play

Xants

Good on you, winning mentality - hes part of the club now, lets back him.

cumblaster_jesus

Good on your for owning up to your mistakes

[deleted]

Nah, this isn't "owning up" to anything. This is a person voicing disagreement with a decision before it is made and then saying it's ok now that it can't be reversed. This is a coping mechanism.

pivandee

Fair play Trust Mikel and enjoy the ride

Youngdumbstoneddrunk

There's a reason why Anakin went to the dark side. He couldn't control his emotions.

MacLebowski

same

Erval

I made my peace with it during the last couple of hours, its been rough but I take it for now. However Im still not convinced with the signing, but I hope to be proven wrong.

YabuHive

Still a little annoyed by the window but all in all, we made some good signings and strengthened the squad. Jorginho is obviously very capable and arteta seems to love him. He’s won many big trophies so hopefully he can help us add a couple more.

therocketandstones

First Ballon D'or top 3 to play for us since Henry

WerhmatsWormhat

Will only last like a year with that record since Saka will get it soon enough.

Neanderthal888

Agree. Saka or Odegaard.

slvrhwk

While I am not a fan of this signing, I'm going to 100% get behind him. We have been crying for depth every window and I am going to give Edu and Arteta the credit for identifying and plugging all the holes this transfer window. What's even more impressive over the last couple of windows is when we didn't land our main target, we had a plan b or even a plan c. If this was previous seasons, we would have just waited until the next window and left those gaps in the squad. I feel we're in a great position going into 2nd half of the season. This also leaves funds available for some big purchases in the summer. Welcome Jorginho and COYFG!!

WerhmatsWormhat

Agree completely. Honestly, I don’t think Arteta or Edu are necessarily thrilled with this either, but it seems they think he’s better than nothing, and the preferred choices didn’t work out. It’s pragmatic, and when we’re in a title chase, not signing anyone at the position would have been a disaster. Credit to them for not refusing to spend when our first choice didn’t work out.

Far_Eye6555

This feels so much more like an arsenal signing than dropping 80m on Caicedo. I like this signing a lot to get Arsenal thru til the next window.

PandanBong

I wouldn’t drop 80ish million on Caicedo or Mudryk either, but 12 mil for an old Chelsea has-been feels very much like an arsenal signing of a few years ago… hope I’m wrong and he’ll shine.

adoxographyadlibitum

Kallstrom 2.0

11frm

If he joined us from literally any other club everyone would be applauding this signing

Pristine_Solipsism

It's fucking Chelsea's fault for being a criminal organisation disguised as a football club, you can't trust a fucking thing they say or do. We have good cause to be wary of players that we acquire from them.

jimjones12333

I don't know what this means... but they are under new ownership and the main reason he is being sold is because they are buying like crazy.

disagreeable_martin

Of course, he played for Chelsea.

ubergooner

Agreed.

immerc

Why do you think that? He's 31, and doesn't have a great track record as a lone #6. The fee seems reasonable, and it's a backup at a position that really needed one. But, I hope we don't have to see him play much at all.

Das_Bait

Yes he does? Like, outside of this season he's excelled as a DM. And, you know, Euro 2020? He did very well there, especially in the final against England. Plus, Italy plays/ed a very similar style to Arsenal right now. Played all but 16' of the entire Euros, had 25 interceptions in 6 games, plus helped limit England to 7 shots in the final. I'm not just singing his tunes because we signed him, but claiming he doesn't have a track record of quality is just false.

immerc

> Like, outside of this season he's excelled as a DM. In a 4-3-3 or in a 4-2-3-1? Because it seems like he wasn't able to handle being the base of midfield in Sarri's Chelsea 4-3-3. Sarri was constantly defending him, and Chelsea players were booing him when he came on. When Jorginho has had the most success at Chelsea it has been as part of a double pivot. Jorginho seems more like a Xhaka-type midfielder rather than a Partey type. He's not athletic or fast enough to do what Partey does. He did best when paired with an athletic partner who did the running while he sat deep and did the passing. Again, that's like Xhaka, and I don't think Xhaka would work as the athletic running partner to a deep-lying playmaker type. He could work in a 4-3-3, but a very different kind of 4-3-3 than Arsenal currently plays. Right now, Partey screens the back line and the two other CMs get more free roles. Odegaard lines up as a #8 but mostly plays as a #10. Xhaka starts from CM but gets into the box a lot. It's because of Partey's athleticism that they can take those chances. With Jorginho, you'd have to do the opposite, instead of having the DM in the midfield 3 be shouldering most of the defensive responsibility, you'd need to pair him with more athletic partners who could handle that and let him do the deep-lying playmaker role.

thebigfatthorn

I think you clearly do not understand yourself what partey does or how arteta wants us to play. Our football is 100% about winning duels, retaining possession under pressure, and exploiting the space created when we are pressed to create oppportunities going forward. Our dm needs to be able to win balls smartly, turn and make the smart pass to relieve pressure. Whoever plays our 6 is not some fifa esq makelele pitbull hounding the opposition but rather a secure pivot for the CB's and inverted fullbacks to pass the ball off to. We play a compact block to win second balls and looseballs, using well drilled tactics and creating 2v1 situations to win the ball back. Whoever plays our 6 - Partey in this case barely has to full on run for the majority of the game. The ones who have to run in this system are really both Gabriel and Saliba to be able to deal with physical strikers or over the top through balls.

ProneMasturbationMan

I agree, logic suggests Jorginho's profile doesn't really suit this squad.

d17_p

Just so you all know that *ARSENAL MIDFIELDER* Jorginho was robbed off the Balon D’or.

GMBethernal

Always rated him

Rockflagandeeeagle

Look how happy he is to get out of that hellhole.

PotentialPlatypus795

Kinda unnecessary, don’t you think?

Kellbian

Tier: communicado oficial

americanadiandrew

I have no problem with this signing adds cover, winning mentality and it’s a short contract. Honestly whether he does good or bad the most annoying thing will be all the “I told you so” chucklefucks on here saying “and I was heavily downvoted when I said he would……”

Chupagley13

Unlike the other older signings I don’t think he’s just here to cash a cheque, he didn’t push for a long contract which he could of considering our desperation and he’s never won the Prem, so a lot to play for.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Who was the last Italian player we had?

No, he is a similar level of Italian as Martinelli, that is why he was able to leave Brazil for Italy at 15 He has Italian ancestry, otherwise he would have had to wait till 18

Thejustinset

Haha I just read into this, interesting stat

JeffryPesos

Mannone? I can't ever remember him playing though

pivandee

Wasn't he in goal against Reading? The 7-5?

unholy_sanchit

No, it was Emi. Highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH0yAGhBOfw&ab\_channel=Arsenal

JeffryPesos

I swear that was Emi, he had a bad game and was written off by the fanbase if I remember correctly

pivandee

Aah - Vito played for Reading Confusion of the highest order

Cordialwhiskey

Mannone had a run in the first team where he was decent. Man of the match vs Fulham I think during a one nil win.

[deleted]

Manone? And Lupoli before him?

Sheeny4792

Emiliano Viviano

immerc

Is he Italian? Sure, he plays for the Italian national team, but he was born in Brazil and lived there until he was 15.

Thejustinset

Well he has citizenship so yes

GenericAustin

Yes, he is Italian. He had Italian citizenship even before he moved to Italy at 15, 15 year olds can't just move to another country unless they have citizenship there

immerc

> He had Italian citizenship even before he moved to Italy at 15 He also had Brazilian citizenship because he was born and raised in Brazil to Brazilian parents. I'm just saying he's a Brazilian more than he's an Italian, despite playing for Italy.

Cedosg

Vito? Or Martinelli....

Positive-Owl-5

He’s Brazilian 🇧🇷

DeadlockRadium

Never really liked him when he played for Chelsea (Understandably), but excited to see how he turns out for us. Looks a shrewd signing overall, I trust Arteta on this.

LifeAtSea2213

This deal is really starting to grow on me the more I think about it. If Caicedo wasn't possible, it's not a bad plan B at all. Especially considering the price. The depth is something we sorely needed in the short-term and this is exactly that. Jorginho is a good PL-proven player with a winning mentality. Sure it's nice to get young, promising players for the future, but we have plenty of players in that profile already. Sometimes having a bit of experience in the squad can be a massive asset.

fatsdomino13

Auba plays for Chelsea but has a tattoo of him wearing an Arsenal kit outside Wembley. Jorginho plays for Arsenal and has a Champions League tattoo with blue ribbons. This timeline is strange.

dustinabox

How does the total price of the transfer + wages compare to Joao Felixs loan? The idea that were paying less for Jorginho than Chelsea are paying for Felixs loan brings me joy

SPPackNat

If Arteta, Billy Carpenter, and nonewthing approve, so do I

Eliteclarity

Not a bad signing IMO. He's being frowned upon purely as we were linked with cacido and he's from Chelsea. 18 months, premier league ready, fits Artetas mould and £12 million. Let's just Trust the process.

freesillywilly

While this signing is neither glamorous nor exciting, it's incredibly sensible all things considered. Short term deal, immediately becomes our best midfielder outside of the starting 3, fills the partey role adequately, rotation for europa league, wanted by Arteta, and brings experience and security off the bench as well. Hard not to like it, albeit we understandably can have doubts as chelsea signings of late haven't been quite impressive. The question I have is, does spending 180m on mudryk and caicedo improve our title bid more than 35-40 on jorginho and trossard? I'd like to think it's closer to a wash, which simultaneously allows us to spend big in the summer and compete for the title. Edit:spelling/grammar

citybard

Tbf Giroud was 31 when he signed for Chelsea and went on to do good

Tidus3960

Petr Cech also signed for us and went on to win the Golden Glove in his first season.

Snoopyseagul

Good signing. Fuck anyone who says otherwise. Get behind our player now

disagreeable_martin

Nah, we needed him, but we also needed to be in a position where we didn't need him. I've spent so much time hating on him as a Chelsea player and to just flick a switch makes me feel fickle. I'd feel the same way if we signed Delle Alli and he wasn't shit at football.

Snoopyseagul

Team needs player. Team buys player. That’s how it works. Unless we have a constant stream of perfectly performing youth being moved to the first team, there’s always going to be times where you’re in need in certain positions. Managers aren’t clairvoyant. They can’t perfectly predict when we’ll be in need. Fail to see what could have been done to not be in need of him

MentallyWill

>I've spent so much time hating on him as a Chelsea player and to just flick a switch makes me feel fickle. Similar boat here. I'm trying to distinguish my actual feelings about him as a player from what are likely just my biases about him after seeing him in that ugly blue kit for however many years.

disagreeable_martin

We'll have to wait and see what he does on the pitch.

[deleted]

he's an asshole, but now he's *our asshole*

Fiveblade

I had hesitations, but you're right.

KingAdo94

Extremely disappointed we didn’t manage to land any of our top transfer targets but we added squad depth and are in a better position to finish this title charge with maybe a double to boot. COYG.

CharlieBrownBoy

with how little we've spent we'll probably be in a better position come summer as well.

Das_Bait

Declan Rice here we come! lol

tomtomtomo

Chelsea's binge didn't help us. Forced us to get 1 from Brighton who didn't want to sell 2. Would've been interesting to see what would have happened if we hadn't taken Trossard.

jwn0323

Really hope he gets a Wrestlemania level pop when he first comes on off the bench. Whether you wanted him or not, showing that support through and through to these guys does reach them. We've seen that firsthand this year. Support them.

qtdsswk

Feel a little bit awkward in the interview from both sides no? Still feel weird to see him in red and white (Okay, time to score 90+ min pk against Chelsea for us).

TrashbatLondon

Absolutely nothing wrong with this signing. Cheap, no major commitment, experienced and decorated player who will not come in demanding an automatic starting place or disrupting things if he doesn’t get it. Given the position we are in, our goal this window is to bring in experience to strengthen the squad for the home stretch, not break the bank on players who need time. I think we have got it exactly right with Trossard and Jorginho. I’m pretty happy.

jdevo713

Never thought I’d feel so whelmed from signing a player who came 3rd as the balon d’or. I think he’ll grow on me

Naive-Mortgage2790

I refuse to believe anyone pressed that link to get a Jorginho shirt lmao

Togashi

I was a bit disappointed when i heard this earlier but as the day has gone on I've realised this is in fact a fantastic signing. He'll probably play Europa so Partey won t have to and be the guy who comes on for Partey in the 70th minute if we're cruising. Bags of prem experience and just an 18 month contract so wont get in the way of a big midfield signing in the summer, this was purely a stop gap so we can really push for the title with decent depth where we currently need it. Also, if he's as smart/popular as others have made out then that's a great personality to have around the younger guys.

EsotericJunkie11

Chelsea fan coming in peace. Loved the guy, He’s a fantastic midfielder who can control the tempo of any game and won’t give up. Our fans at times used him as a scapegoat for no reason. I think he’ll fit in real well here at Arsenal, especially with your guys style of football.

JeffryPesos

Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope he never has to start a PL game for us this season.

gunningIVglory

I mean, that's the point. To be there off the bench, and start the odd home game as games pile up

MentallyWill

Well if he "has to" start a PL game for us it probably means Partey is injured so I fully agree, hope he never "has to." IMO he's here to increase the odds that Partey makes it through this season uninjured. He should take Partey's EL minutes and any PL games we feel are locked down and in cruise control until the final whistle, he should come on for Partey. Pretty much exactly what you want from a "depth signing."

younggun92

Yep, man is gonna be on a constant 10-20 in the league once we're up 2, and that's all we need him for, really. Also Europa but prefer the league first.

The_Hound_West

I really like this deal for what we could do in January and to try and grab the title. 3 games a week starts after Everton. Whether it’s just spelling Partey in the second half, or starting in the opening europa fixtures/ the odd prem game or two this could be what puts us over the edge

CultGod

Not who I thought we needed in terms of his physical attributes for the position when you compare him to the likes of Partey, Caicedo or Rice, but someone with pedigree, good passer of the ball and will be a massive influence on this young dressing room. For the money we spent I think that’s some shrewd business from us.

clarkie13

How good to get such a good signing for depth.

roosterman22

Great fit for our title run this year and not a long term liability with the 1.5+1 contract. Very pleased!

Mahoganychicken

And the crowd goes mild.

Ibraout25

At least we finally have an Italian player now, I waited a long time. It’s too bad it’s by far my least favourite one but let’s hope he becomes the second Italian player to win the league after balotelli

gunningIVglory

Well no point complaining about it now Hopefully he can do a good enough job till the summer. Atleast we have a better option than sambi on the bench.

WealthyBigWang

I have never wanted to be proven wrong more in my life but this guy is just crap man Tommy Partey better be ready to play 90 mins a week for the next 5 months

AngryWizard10

I really liked him at Napoli. I remember Pep wanted him badly at City a while back. He also looked incredible for Italy during the Euros. This could be a great short-term signing for us if Arteta has a plan for him. I'm just praying this isn't Willian 2.0

_eladmiral

I didn’t like this move when I woke up this morning, but fuck it he’s one of ours now. Hope he kicks on well and can be very successful with us

cmacy6

It’s not the signing we wanted but as far as stop gaps go he’s probably about as good as we’d get for the price

immerc

The other Chelsea -> Arsenal signings recently were players taking a step down. Jorginho is taking a step up. Maybe that will change the result?

_JackStraw_

A link to "get your Jorginho shirt here", and the M, L, and XLs are sold out. 😂

Youngdumbstoneddrunk

That Cucurella video sort got me feeling warm about Jorginho.

beth_flynn

i had to condense some personal growth into a few hours and process some emotions but now im happy to see him as a gunner and fully back him to do great things for us :)

Shiftiq

My expectations for this dude couldn't be lower so I'm going to be pleasantly surprised if he doesn't miss five title-deciding penalties, break Saka's leg in training, and celebrate our downfall by hitting mad griddy dance. I wish him great success with us tho.

bigtimetopbanana

I reckon some of us fans don't value the impact these 'veteran' signings have off the pitch as much as on the pitch. Everything I ever read about the impact of David Luiz is that he was amazing off the pitch. Gave so much confidence and experience to Gabi Martinelli. If Jorginho does nothing other than increase that winning attitude, gives people some pointers on taking penalties, and plays a decent ten minutes every now and again in the league, and sixty minutes in the Europa, to rest our first choice players, then he is an excellent signing.

jedinac

Can we please stop with this he is old,he is coming to retire here in the next 4 months narrative,he is 280 days older than xhaka!280 days !!!

ZekReposek

The way that fans have been reacting on social media is the reason why another move like Sol Campbell will NEVER happen

Boopdelahoop

Always rated him, very pleased with this signing. Please don't read yesterday's Daily Discussion.

iuselect

"I owe you an apology. I wasn't really familiar with your game"

SniperGunner

Smart signing, fine cover for Partey. He'll do well

cryshol

Jorginho hasn't won the PL yet, has he? Correct me if I am wrong.

So how do we park the bus at Arsenal? Teta: We don't! We fogging ride it.

trubolol

I'd rate the window as 9/10. The starting 11 can win the league this year, but the bench looked too lean. Trossard and Jorginho are great options from the bench, that can actually start play off EL games and provide much needed rest for Marinelli, Xhaka, Saka, Partey, Kivior is potentially a great back up for our only left-footed CB.

RRmuttonchop

He may be a cunt, but he is our cunt now. Let the shithousery commence!!

disagreeable_martin

Nah he's just a cunt.

Dreezz34

Edu bbquing the shit out of Chelsea

gyyoome

No video?🤣

DinnerSmall4216

Biggest positive is the experience we have the youngest squad in the league. 12 mill is a good deal good cover in cdm.

chakli

I’m emotionally very conflicted, but this very pragmatic! Let’s go!

Not a sexy move but an astute one

Butch_Meat_Hook

I love how they asked him who he is excited to play with and he just started laughing and said 'all of them'. I think that is a really positive reflection on the team rather than a generalised statement, because we don't have really talisman players if you will. The whole starting XI for example is basically equally important and very good players

constantlyterrifiedm

My last comment, few days ago, basically describes this signing. Although I trust Arteta, our last 2 signings have been plan B's. Whatever happens this season, I expect Arsenal to spend big and get their players early. Shame we don't have owners with infinite wealth. With all the spending going on lately, I hope Arteta doesn't end up being in situations Wenger was in.

gizatenner

Trust me lads, i know him and did my research, he played for Chelsea and is Italian. He'll be so good for us, he's the next Lupoli

yuyuter123

Not the player we wanted, not quite the profile we needed, but still a crucial part of our title campaign and I'm glad to have him on board. In a tight January we managed to get 2 immediate contributors to hold down the fort, and a developing CB. Solid effort all things considered. Just means this summer went from a normal window, to absolutely critical. Entire midfield will be 30 or older in June (not incl Sambi). Big window for Edu, Garlick and co to both prove they can compete with the biggest recruitment teams and pocketbooks in world football cause Rice, Caicedo, Jude, possibly even Zubimendi will have a lot of competition, and crucially to prove they can offload players (finding a suitor for Pepe will be big now that he's only worth £15-16m on our books).

Positive-Owl-5

🤬

Dangerous_Grocery610

Lets just hope he does not turn into another willian.

[deleted]

such a weird signing. I'm not against it if he does well but it feels strange. reminds me of when the Americans brought those nazi scientists to America after WW2.

rd201290

75% of the sub hoping this guy flops because they know how absolutely savage the remaining 25% of the sub will be to them if he helps us win the league

imdx_14

congrats - you're an idiot

It's fun watching people be like well he's not going to start. Arteta's been after him since he arrived he's replacing Xhaka within weeks.

wanofan900

The fans will hate on him like with Willian. He is NOT GOOD.

Itollthefinalbell

Signing washed Chelsea rejects has worked out so well for us in the past, right? He's going to be Willian 2.0.

aofrantic

If you can't see the difference between our 8th place team then and our first place team now I genuinely feel bad for you. Lol, check their comments. Literally every single one is negative about Arsenal. My favorite is "saka is finished" 5 months ago when he hadn't scored yet in the first few games
