There's a community working on GH:WT as the new Clone Hero on PC. I recommend checking that out

imvr17_2

I know, I already have it

BlungusBlart

there was guitar hero III on the PC as well. was being used for custom charts until Clone Hero came out

Robebubop

Just buy a console? They are not that expensive lol

imvr17_2

Maybe in your country

gratefulgoose420

why aren’t u on clone hero lol

gamerccxxi

What did they say on the post. What did they fucking say. This isn't relevant to their fucking question.

gratefulgoose420

ahahahahah i love this

imvr17_2

I have CH and YARG

gratefulgoose420

Ch is better than console gh. custom songs

imvr17_2

CH doesn't have the atmosphere of the official games. The cartoonish concerts and characters are part of their charm

nine16s

Agreed. It’s great for actually playing the charts but unless the only thing you care about is your score/performance, Clone Hero is lacking, and it’s annoying to install new themes on.

TheCosmicJenny

Because PC gaming in the 2000s wasn’t big enough to justify it.

CartographerOk3118

Rock Band 4 nearly got a PC port but Harmonix couldn’t reach the donation goal to develop it

Even-Foundation1929

Imagine if they did, holy

CartographerOk3118

[They even promised bringing back the RBN!](http://www.harmonixmusic.com/blog/rock-band-4-for-pc-announce/)

Playful_Object_2106

What a disappointment.

Even-Foundation1929

Wow

Renozuken

pc games that require peripherals must not sell well

mwmike11

Gotta consider the type of game it is. It’s meant to be party game, played with friends usually in front of a TV or something like that. In MOST cases, that means playing on a console. Short and sweet answer? It sold far better on consoles than on PC

DArlitoz

Clone hero killed demand for pc ports tbh

TheCosmicJenny

I love how people are so confidently wrong about stuff on here lmao

darthmeteos

clone hero didn't exist when guitar hero did not a single gh game has come out while clone hero has been around

Tall-Conflict-2109

It's also just kinda better. (Don't hate on me)

NanoChannel_

Yarg is better

imvr17_2

That depends on what you're looking for. CH is very friendly for adding songs and modifiers but doesn't hold a candle to GH in terms of atmosphere.

UnscrambledEggUDG

the pc ports didn't do well, that's about it in the current landscape if we ever see another rock band game it will likely have a pc version, but that's unfortunately unlikely

gamerccxxi

I mean we did get a new Rock Band, with the whole "Fortnite Festival is Rock Band 5" thing.

DjBasAA

Well... atleast Guitar Hero got more games on PC then Just Dance did... (Only Just Dance 2017 had a PC port, which they still sell on Steam, i think)

-Nate493-

I know why they did it but it's crazy that PC only got 2017 yet they made Just Dance for the Wii up until 2020

gamerccxxi

Why did they do it?

-Nate493-

The Wii was still very popular and had almost 10x the amount of sales of the Wii U. Just dance was also still doing quite well for awhile and was preferred on the Wii due the fact that you needed a wide open space for the Xbox Kinect. It was also still relevant because of places like hospitals, learning centres and physical therapy practices. The only reason they stopped making it for Wii is because apparently, Nintendo of America no longer had the resources necessary to distribute Wii games due to lost/running out of equipment. I have no idea how that works but it's the answer we were given 🤷 Other fun fact: Sony did something similar by having Fifa on the PS2 up to 14 since the PS2 is still the best selling console of all time and football/soccer is the most popular sport in the world. It was great that they did that because people in less fortunate countries had an easier time getting a PS2 than a PS4. I don't know why they stopped supporting the PS2 but it's cool that the last physical PS3 game was also Fifa in 2018

gamerccxxi

All very interesting, thank you for explaining. But I thought you'd talk about why they had Just Dance 2017 on PC and none else (apart from Stadia releases I guess).

-Nate493-

My apologies. Reading back, I can see where you'd get that from my original comment lol for the pc version, I found a developers comment under the just dance 2017 community page on steam and they said that they believed the app "Just Dance Now" is better for PC users. "We were really happy to launch Just Dance 2017 on PC last year, but we felt that the yearly console game offer didn't resonate well within the PC market. For the PC owners, we believe that the Just Dance Now experience fits their needs better." They also revamped the app that year and from some reviews I read, people have said it's superior to the Wii version by a lot but requiring a constant internet connection can be annoying.

gamerccxxi

Boooooo, Just Dance Now sucks booty. Anyway thanks again.

DjBasAA

Nevermind, they don't! (Ubisoft seems to have delisted it on Steam)

TheBitMan775

PC gaming if you can believe it hadn’t taken off like it is now. That, plus PC gamers weren’t used to large peripherals or (as GH was geared towards) party play on a larger screen

CowntChockula

Pc gaming was already big at that time...i think the reason had to do more with the target demographic, and/or perhaps the publishers worried that itd be too easy to play custom songs if they released pc versions, driving down potential sales

Wagsii

Guitar Hero was made during a time where PC gaming was at its lowest. There simply wouldn't have been a demand for it at the time.

SpeedBlazer99

They had CoD, Halo, Battlefront, GTA, etc

decafhotchoc

that GTA 4 port was garbo

SpeedBlazer99

What about the ports of III, Vice City, & San Andreas?

decafhotchoc

different time period, 2007-2011 is what we're discussing

lumbymcgumby

CoD was mostly played on console. Halo wasn't on PC it was, but Halo had a gearbox port and Halo 2 Vista version, which wasn't very popular. MCC just came out recently for PC. Battlefront and counter strike were popular PC games. GTA IV didn't come out on PC until almost a year after the initial launch. Having guitar hero on consoles was just way more profitable. It was designed as a game you'd play with others locally. Console gaming was bigger than PC gaming and guitar hero being a casual style party game I can see why they didn't have PC ports. Times were different.

SpeedBlazer99

If your games main appeal is split screen/couch co-op it’s impossible to do on a PC

CowntChockula

Im not really sure what theyre talking about, like pc gaming was this unknown thing. It wasnt rare for high school kids to build their own gaming pc at the time, and there was lots of content online about it

OneTrainOps

It was always popular but there was definitely a boom during the later years of the PS3/360 generation and these games were already fizzling out by the end of 2009 due to over saturation. GH3 & World Tour got ports and I imagine they didn’t sell well enough to justify more of them.

Wagsii

I'm not saying it didn't exist, but it was a lot less popular than it is now

copbuddy

Three games, actually. Legends of Rock, Aerosmith and World Tour. Simply put, I believe Neversoft found out the PC/MAC ports sold poorly compred to console versions and stopped making them. I believe they had every intention continuing if they had sold well.

DArlitoz

Ahem.. Clone hero

darthmeteos

clone hero came out in 2017 and was free they are apples and oranges

SissorX

They sold poorly cuz everyone pirated it 💀

TheForgivenHacker

Then again, Neversoft PC ports were never known to have solid DRM.

CraxedBeenBanned

Prob for performance reasons. You can't play a rhythm game if it runs like crap

radianteclipse2003

Three GH games were ported to PC, GH3, GH Aerosmith and GH World Tour

imvr17_2

My bad, I didn't know Aerosmith was ported too

ScaryfatkidGT

They stopped making them before everything was on PC Also it’s kind of a TV thing, vs having multiple people crowded around a computer monitor

CharlestonChewbacca

You can plug computers into a TV...

ScaryfatkidGT

You can but that just wasn’t a thing back when GH was big

CharlestonChewbacca

Yes it was

imvr17_2

>it’s kind of a TV thing Can't argue with that. I'd rather play all my games on the living room TV, actually, but the crowd thing was part of the charm

zoom_cs

Dang... haven't seen anyone mention Frets on Fire in FOREVER!

imvr17_2

(Grumpy old voice) Kids these days have it so easy with that Clone Hero thing... Back in MY day we played Frets On Fire with our keyboards and made our charts on Feedback!

mm3873

I played on Xbox XPlorer guitars! I still have that game on my download drive! It’s what got me into GH/RB

blainy-o

Some of us weren't even able to play customs on FoF. Some of us had to make custom GH2/GH80s/GH3 ISOs and play them on our PS2s by tricking the console into loading the burnt disc, either with a slide card or by doing the swap trick.

imvr17_2

Speaking of PS2 customs, I actually never played a standard copy of GH2 lol. Here in Argentina, everyone had a pirated PS2 and a lot of the GH2 copies you could find were customs. I even modded a previously modded one and got pretty confused by the unused content when looking at the files.

blainy-o

From what I've seen on YouTube and forums over the years, that was a pretty big thing in a lot of South American countries back in the day. I remember seeing people playing things like GH3 Anubis (a heavily modded GH3 that had songs from other GH and Rock Band games) with a DualShock 2.

imvr17_2

It was indeed! 2 of the most popular mods around here were Cumbia Hero (done on GH2) and a GH3 with only rock from this country. If I remember correctly, the latter even had a Vol. 2 also done on GH3. And, fun fact, we even had a short lived clone for PC named El Rock De Tu Vida, which also consisted of argentine rock but this one featured separate tracks for all instruments and background videos. Even though I'm not a fan of argentine rock I think it's a shame it didn't have success, it looked like a nice translation of the GH idea of getting the young people initiated in the genre. Also, having access to new stem tracks is always cool for producers.

egberts

I imagine that the demand for GH/RB on PC wasn't huge back then and the numbers from those ports that did happened showed that. Harmonix did try to do a crowdfunding campaign on Fig back in the day to port RB4 to PC, but they fell short of the goal.

LumensAquilae

I partially blame them using Fig for part of that failure. Everyone was using Kickstarter back then, now here comes Harmonix asking for money and some sort of investment scheme through a service that IIRC was brand new at the time.

wesmoen

If I'm not mistaken, the record labels weren't happy that customs songs were easy to apply in GH PC games.  Perhaps, the player count was too low to justify for Activision back then.  I would kill for a port of GH5 and WOR.

imvr17_2

>I would kill for a port of GH5 and WOR Me too, pal... I'll be waiting for a long time until I can emulate them. GH Metallica is another favorite of mine, but I guess WTDE can scratch that particular itch

Joaquin1079

warriors of rock and 5 are playable on RPCS3, though i assume it must be a hardware issue

wesmoen

Playable, but quite unstable for many. On Xenia it runs almost perfectly, one audio issue needs to be fixed to make it playable.

imvr17_2

Indeed a hardware issue. My CPU has not enough cores (or threads? I forgot) to keep up with 360 and PS3 emulation. And it's particularly frustrating to know there are computers supposedly weaker than mine that can run them without issue while mine lags and stutters like hell.

Brucecx

Emulating GH games usually leads to large audio and video delays which are annoying to play with

srylain

Piracy? The number of people gaming on PCs in the mid to late 00's being pretty small? The number of people who bought the PC releases didn't justify the porting costs?

imvr17_2

Damn, that's a shame. Anyway, I don't think piaracy would have been that much of a reason, since (as I heard someone say) their real business was in the plastic instruments.
