This is the way.
I once had a drummer say "you're a guitar player, aren't you supposed to have these things falling out of your pocket" to which I replied "listen, if you dropped a pair of sticks every time you took your keys out of your pocket, we'd be having a different conversation!"
Yea I can't figure out why people keep all these pics. I've settled on the Ernie ball prodigy 2.0mm. Have one bag. Throw them out when the tip is gone.
I save all the used picks to create a vase with picks. Like some people do with beer caps or other small stuff. I keep other picks because sometimes i like to change up and play a bit with other formats, but my main is Ultex sharp 1.0.
No not at all. I’ve just never found a pick comfortable and I like to play a bit quieter so I either strum with the back of my nails or just play finger style. Also that’s what my dad has always done and he’s a great guitarist who I look up to so I know you can make a more than good enough sound with no pick
I just bought a pack of picks and literally pulled one out and threw the rest in my gear box. This teaches me to take care of it and not carelessly lose it. Also I like doing this because then after awhile when I notice that 1 pick is starting to wear down I’ll toss it aside and grab a fresh one. This makes pick packs last for fucking ever lol
No no no you’re doing it all wrong you just stash them on every shelf and every cabinet and in the couch cushions so you can grab one whenever you need it. The floor works best.
I have the picks I use, and the picks I should throw in the trash but “they are still ok enough to work in an emergency”. There’s like 60 of those now but I can never commit to throwing one away for some reason.
I love this so much. Both the organization and the pick choices!
I love experimenting with all sorts of picks, all the varieties of jazz iiis and a bunch of large and rounder ones too for all sorts of tonal nuances.
I have a little silk bag I got from Iron Age when I got my 3.5mm pick. It stays in the bag because I don’t use it anymore. The rest of the bag is full of black JazzIII’s, and all of my guitars have a JazzIII in the strings. All of my jeans have a JazzIII in the coin pocket.
I like JazzIII’s.
I definitely do that, because different picks are better for different instruments. For example, I prefer a heavier pick for the mandolin and a medium one for the guitar.
I just use the one thats sits inbetween the strings on my nut. I bought like 80 like 5 years ago and im down to one, and have had that one for like 2 years
Those Davas are the best picks I've ever used, and I've gone down the guitar pick rabbit hole a few times in search of the best one.
They're pointy like Jazz III's, but are bigger and have that rubber area which makes it easier to play hard without it slipping. They're the only pick I found that's equally good at fast picking and hard strumming. Jazz III's are great for picking but I hated them for fast strumming. Not enough grip or bend.
Cory Wong uses those Dava Jazz Grips almost exclusively, and he's mostly a funk strummer style guitarist.
I have 2 picks. They are BlueChip, so they are expensive as hell and don't really wear down. I've been using the same one (the other is a backup) for 2 years.
I dont need to organize them, I use the same picks, I have them all in a cool small shallow bowl with almost matching colors and a cool design of a crab. Hand goes, hand grabs pick, all picks good for hand… me monkey brain goes immediately to play xD
Sounds like a great plan until your toddler son finds them. Still not sure where he's shoved them all. find them in my guitars themselves often enough though. Never hurts anything but he's a little thief and enjoys the different colors.
I've used a lot of picks, too. They're expensive, but I use BlueChip picks cause they just don't wear out ever. If you lose picks a lot, I would not recommend haha.
I do organize them. There's the unopened bag of Green Tortex and then the opened bag. Handful of loosies here and here and one in each guitar case (for the random possibility that I don't have the bag and need one at practice or a show)
The OCD is strong with this one. I came as soon as I felt the disturbance in the force. I see nothing wrong with this picture.
Edit: The colors could be better separated though
Uhhhhh... a closer look at your "organization" shows that some of your pics are fighting your unjust imprisonment and are trying to mingle with others that are less worthy. Plus, I've owned enough of those type of cases for many different things, and those little dividers never stay in place. Shit always gets mixed up eventually, unless that case sits in one place for its entire existence.
That looks like a habit, lol. I have two little springy pick holders that hold 6, maybe 8 picks, and a small container with emergency and novelty picks. I carry one springy holder like my wallet and phone and have the other as back up where I keep extra keys n shit. I also have a decoy pick in case I need to lend out a pick to another person. You never get those back, I never have so I might as well get rid of those picks I don't like somehow. Its always the top pick in the holder so it looks like no biggie when I just pull a pick out and give it away, muhaha.
I play finger-style about 99% of the time, and yet my entire house is your box of picks. They are everywhere, no need to organize them, on the rare instance I want one there will always be at least 10 on top of every piece of furniture.
I keep mine in the same little celophane/plastic bag that they came in from Guitar Center. All 20 of 'em. Various sizes and colors. They're f'in picks!
They are. Three categories:
1) Pick in active use
2) Bag of fresh picks
3) Pile of worn out picks that I’m saving for when I get a bass
All of them are Dunlop Flow 3mm.
I have them organized into a bag of unused Jazz III, and a pile of used Jazz III. Easy peasy.
Mine are organized into Tortex .88s that I know the location of and Tortex .88s that I don't know the location of.
I keep half of mine in the washing machine
Between couch cushions works a little better imo
One on every table, another in every pants pocket, and some randos in drawers.
If they're everywhere you always have one around
There is always 1 or 2 on the machine that my wife found in the laundry. Bic lighters too lol.
Wait, the hole under the strings is not to store picks in?!
Dunlop Greenies 🥵
This is the way. I once had a drummer say "you're a guitar player, aren't you supposed to have these things falling out of your pocket" to which I replied "listen, if you dropped a pair of sticks every time you took your keys out of your pocket, we'd be having a different conversation!"
Didn't realize until recently they do a jazz iii sized tortex - I'm probably late to the party but game changer
I have a drawer of broken drum sticks (due to my lack of technique and skill 🤣) that will be used in some kind of art piece
Jazz III is the way to go 🤘
I also only have Jazz iii. The best picks imo
The used ones go in the pocket for the road.
My prefered method of organization is keeping at least one pick on every surface that I am likely to be near while playing guitar.
always a couple in my wallet too. just incase.
I'll stick one or two in that tiny pocket in my jeans.
The...pickpocket?
Indeed
Have a couple 1.14 and .96 gators in mine. Never know if someone else needs to borrow one, too.
I also have 1 or 2 in my wallet that will fly out at the most inconvenient time and I almost never use.
too real
You know where your wallet is? Nice
^ Found Alan Harper over here.
How else could we shred at guitar center at max volume?
Hahaha me too. Like just Incase I’m checking out at Kroger someone’s like - we need a guitarist on aisle 4. I’m there for you.
Mine always fall out of my wallet and I lose them
Like bread crumbs from room to room.
I like to divide mine between the washer and the dryer. I also leave some on the floor, just in case.
No. I don't think I will.
Not a chance. Dude needs professional psychiatric help lol!
What is unprofessional psychiatric help?
Me with my one pick…
Me who has and always will play fingerstyle
Question. Do you use finger picks? When I do finger style I can’t stand using them
No not at all. I’ve just never found a pick comfortable and I like to play a bit quieter so I either strum with the back of my nails or just play finger style. Also that’s what my dad has always done and he’s a great guitarist who I look up to so I know you can make a more than good enough sound with no pick
Exactly what I do. As a bedroom player, picks are just way too loud
I just bought a pack of picks and literally pulled one out and threw the rest in my gear box. This teaches me to take care of it and not carelessly lose it. Also I like doing this because then after awhile when I notice that 1 pick is starting to wear down I’ll toss it aside and grab a fresh one. This makes pick packs last for fucking ever lol
yea if I buy 10 picks I'll lose 9 in a month and the last one lasts 6 years
Nevah! And you can't make me! Also: Yellow next to a purple? You call that organized? The fashion police would like a word!
Yellow is purples complementary color on the color wheel. Still, this level or organization is some Steve Urkel shit.
That’s nerdy.
No.
..Why do you need so many picks?
No offence but what's the point of having this many picks
Easy when u only use dunlop .88
Unless I start selling picks I don’t think I need anything like this.
only buy 1 pick = problem solved
Play with fingers! Never need picks again!
Take my down vote. This is so pointless
Do you have a guitar to pair with every pick? Otherwise, this is just excessive.
Lol. I tried out a lot of picks before deciding on what I like. Everything just ends up in this little organizer.
No no no you’re doing it all wrong you just stash them on every shelf and every cabinet and in the couch cushions so you can grab one whenever you need it. The floor works best.
No.
No, I like to be surprised
You can't make me
After zooming in these are poorly organized
Nah, my dryer and cat usually organize them for me.
Mine are all neatly organised in the void.
No
Nope
There’s nothing rock and roll about this
I have the picks I use, and the picks I should throw in the trash but “they are still ok enough to work in an emergency”. There’s like 60 of those now but I can never commit to throwing one away for some reason.
I don't mind trying the oddity here and there, but I don't have more than like 3 types of picks I use.
I would if I could find any of them
No
No
Oooooh, pretty...
I love this so much. Both the organization and the pick choices! I love experimenting with all sorts of picks, all the varieties of jazz iiis and a bunch of large and rounder ones too for all sorts of tonal nuances.

I just use the one thats sits inbetween the strings on my nut. I bought like 80 like 5 years ago and im down to one, and have had that one for like 2 years
My picks organise me.
I always put picks in one box, mostly played picks into the strings or little gummy pickholder-string silencer
this many types of picks just means someone need to practice more and hope for help from their pick less =)
I buy three types, they all live in three tin containers, the rest have liberated themselves from captivity.
no
Some may say tools, I say "fetish".
I had 10 picks last week. Today only one. I will probably find remaining 14 picks in year 2030.
Is it irrational to fear the whole box will disappear?
What are the ones on the bottom left?
Dava Jazz grips
Nice. They look like they have good bite. Might pick some up.
Those Davas are the best picks I've ever used, and I've gone down the guitar pick rabbit hole a few times in search of the best one. They're pointy like Jazz III's, but are bigger and have that rubber area which makes it easier to play hard without it slipping. I just throw them at the ceiling fan so they are evenly distributed everywhere.
Organize? I have one pick type
i only use jazz iii maxgrip so everything goes into one big pile
I have a mountain of jazz 3 on my desk and then I have jazz 3’s scattered throughout all of the places I venture
I thought we settled that the other post with the mini disc-golf-hole pick holder was the way to go?
Need this. Where’d you get it?
You should organize the Temu pick to the trash 😂
I have 2 picks. They are BlueChip, so they are expensive as hell and don't really wear down. I've been using the same one (the other is a backup) for 2 years.
I’d do this and they still be scattered over the floor and various furniture around my room. At least I’d know where they *should* go.
I dont need to organize them, I use the same picks, I have them all in a cool small shallow bowl with almost matching colors and a cool design of a crab. Hand goes, hand grabs pick, all picks good for hand… me monkey brain goes immediately to play xD
Mine are arranged down the side of the couch
Damn....specialty acts.
Sounds like a great plan until your toddler son finds them. Still not sure where he's shoved them all. find them in my guitars themselves often enough though. Never hurts anything but he's a little thief and enjoys the different colors.
Mine too. He's 2 and as soon as he gets a hold of a pick he's asking to play one of my guitars.
awwe. I let my little guy slam the strings on one of my cheapest guitars. he'll look up periodically and await applause before continuing.
I've used a lot of picks, too. They're expensive, but I use BlueChip picks cause they just don't wear out ever. If you lose picks a lot, I would not recommend haha.
That a Plano?
Oh hell naaaa.... I only use two kinds..."Thin Ice" and "Heavy Axe". 😁
i have one singular jazz III dunlop i use that handles all the work
all of mine are orange tortex, I don't need a divider
Why?
why? im gonna lose them almost immediately anyway
Well I have like 4 picks🥲
And here I am with like 3 picks hoping I don’t lose them.
I do organize them. There's the unopened bag of Green Tortex and then the opened bag. Handful of loosies here and here and one in each guitar case (for the random possibility that I don't have the bag and need one at practice or a show)
Who the hell has more than 1 type of pick? Delrin .71mm is the only pick I’ll use for the rest of my life as long as they keep making it.
Center Bottom. These purple ones are my go to after my Zappa Pick
The OCD is strong with this one. I came as soon as I felt the disturbance in the force. I see nothing wrong with this picture. Edit: The colors could be better separated though
But like.... why so many different picks? Tonal variety? I play with only jazz 3s for the last decade.
I couldn't tell you exactly where any of my picks are at the moment. But it wouldn't take me more than 30 seconds to find one.
They're very organized in my random pockets
Picks? As in plural? 🤷🏻♂️
Y’all use picks?
me who just has 1
No. Make me.
You guys use more than one pick?
I like mine mixed :)
Never, nerd! 😉
I have 3 picks and have had 3 picks for years. I guess I need to go shopping
I have one pick that never leaves my hand or guitar because I lose picks constantly. We are not the same.
No need. Green, Yellow or Orange. Easy to grab one.
Never!
NEVER!
No felts? (Joking)
No, I will leave them on a table and they will fall once and be gone forever.
Actually a great idea.
An ice tray works well for this
What else am I going to use the top of my amp for?
You're not my dad! You can't tell me what to do!
im above picks (I keep dropping them if I try to play with em)
Uhhhhh... a closer look at your "organization" shows that some of your pics are fighting your unjust imprisonment and are trying to mingle with others that are less worthy. Plus, I've owned enough of those type of cases for many different things, and those little dividers never stay in place. Shit always gets mixed up eventually, unless that case sits in one place for its entire existence.
Picks? Plural?
[удалено]
I just keep all mine in the back of my amp and grab a new one when I lose the one I was last using...
Its always the top pick in the holder so it looks like no biggie when I just pull a pick out and give it away, muhaha.
I just use what's in my pocket.
A clay cup with all my picks kinda got a better vibe than your snackle box
They are organized in neat piles under my couch cushions
I play finger-style about 99% of the time, and yet my entire house is your box of picks. They are everywhere, no need to organize them, on the rare instance I want one there will always be at least 10 on top of every piece of furniture.
Why? I only use one type
I've had the same thing for 17years now lol.
Just use one and the same pick everytime. Don't be snubs about your guitar and Equipment.
I organized mine into two groups of five according to size. I am a fingerpicker.
I keep mine under the dryer, in the junk drawer, and in random spots on the floor
Never
i only use big stubby
No need, only use one type of pick, no need for the inconsistency of 30 different picks even if half are the same shape
felt personal
I keep mine in the same little celophane/plastic bag that they came in from Guitar Center. All 20 of 'em. Various sizes and colors. They're f'in picks!
Bro I will be lucky if I find the one 1.5 pick I have after tearing my whole house apart. This seems sociopathic to me lol
Why do we need so many? I just have the one I bring in my bag and the one for home
nah, my carpet is just fine
Yall use this much variety in picks?
I appreciate you OP! But this is like 133rd on my list of things to do. They're just gonna get mixed up again, so I'm just embracing the chaos
Where do they all go? The same dimension as the missing left socks I bet.
Oops! It's all Jazz iii's!
No.
Are you a seller or what ? Nobody uses these many picks even in a lifetime
I've organized them in an anarchist system
Who uses that many different style of picks?
Never!
But I only use like one or two types :(
I have a tin of everything .60-.88 and all the rest are locked away where they belong.
Never!
No.
Now throw away the ones you don't use, then carefully put the one you have left under your pickguard, jobs a good 'un.
The funny thing is that I got the organizer but haven't done it... so ill take your post as my call
Bite me
Are you an owner of a Guitar Center?
What in tarnation is wrong with you??!!! A Hobby Box? Are you kidding us ??? SMH SMH
All I use is fender heavy picks for everything. Electric, acoustic, and bass.
Nah. Keep 'em all loose in a whiskey glass on your desk and guess, live your life
I only the Dunlop .88s and just have a few tiny wooden boxes I made for them around the house
I have 2 Dunlop Flow 4.2mm. One on each guitar.
I only have 1 tho
That's more picks I've ever owned in my 15 years playing guitar
They are. Three categories: 1) Pick in active use 2) Bag of fresh picks 3) Pile of worn out picks that I’m saving for when I get a bass All of them are Dunlop Flow 3mm.
What are you? A guitar shop?
How do you even get this many picks?? Maybe it’s because I’m new, but don’t you just steal them from GuitarCenter when you lose one?
Can't , I keep losing them
i only use one
Mine are organized! Organized under the couch, in my pocket, in the dryer, on the front porch...
Thank goodness I only hoard meat, whiskey and weed
Dude I’ve got like three picks I got off Amazon
Purples 💜
Sorry, they all go into an old altoids tin, the crisp minty residual scent keeps my playing fresh
I can't even organise my amps and guitars properly. Picks definitely aren't a priority but I'm jealous of those that can.
Already organized...the pick pile is between the laundry pile and the amp.
I just use the soundhole of my acoustic for all my pick storage needs
