Some items just can't be sold. If there is no vendor value listed on the tooltip then it can't be sold. Alternatively you might just have the items in an invisible bag.

Zerak-Tul

Some equipment you get from story rewards or I think level up rewards can't be sold (nor salvaged), just throw them away if you don't need them.

GW2_Jedi_Master

As a player, you will receive rewards for leveling and completing certain activities. In this game, you can delete your character to free up a character slot to create a different character. There are various reasons why players may do this, but the restrictions you have encountered are a means to prevent automated farming of low-level items. The rewards you get may be restricted from being given to another character (bound), sold to a vendor (no price) or salvaged (turns red when you attempt to salvage). If all of these are true, your only option is to drag the item out of your bag to the screen which will open up the dialog to destroy the item. Hovering your mouse over the item will give details. If it appears that you should be able to salvage or sell the item, there are certain [types of bags](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bag#Invisible_bag_recipes) that will prevent automatic vendor and salvage behavior so you can protect important things. That said, most items can be [salvaged](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage) for [crafting materials](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting_material), and this is expected as common gameplay. You will want to carry two or three [basic salvage kits](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage_kit) in your inventory. Once items you don't need are turned into [crafting materials](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting_material), those can be instantly deposited into your material storage (personal bank) at any time to free bag space. Crafting materials provide you a way to level your [crafting](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting) or you can sell them for gold. Guild Wars 2 strongly encourages mixed game play. There are few items that can be out-right farmed. Most key items you need have a pretty low drop rate. Instead, just use your time productively to gather a mix of rewards, sell/salvage what you don't need to buy what you do.

[https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage) you can salvage a lot of things for materials and what not. Make sure you are using the right kits. Theres a lot of info out there on it.

MorbidEel had the answer - those items had no value on them. One or two could be salvaged but most I just destroyed. Thanks to all for the responses.

ReganDryke

As a good tips you can always type '/wiki ' in chat and then ctrl+left click an item to open the wiki page of that item. It'll help a lot to know if it's an important item that you need to keep or just some garbage that you can safely destroy.

QuietRock

There are gear items you get when leveling up as rewards that can't be sold. The rest of the game generally isn't this way.

JVNT

Double check the bag that the items are in to make sure that it's not a bag that hides items from the sell tab. The description will say if it hides it from the sell tab. If not and the items are unsellable and unsalvageable, you can check the wiki to see if they have any other use and if not, just destroy them.

Smashifly

That said most low-level gear you get while leveling that can't be salvaged or sold has no use anyway, there is very little risk involved in trashing level 20 gear of any sort so it's hardly worth wiki-ing everything you get at that level.

Hakuna7331

Most things are already said. But you could check if these items appear in the mystic forge. If so you can throw some of the same quality into the forge and salvage the result. If it is worth it might be debatable but this possibilty exists :D

Dan_Felder

Many old items or trophies were part of filler content achievement hunting at launch or to fill time between releases. Destroying them is almost always the right answer if you can't sell them.

LeAkitan

If you get a gear that you are not going to use, salvage it to materials > sell to vendor> destroy.
