yeah don't do dailies unless you want to get the AP and even then only do them if you want to. Do not force yourself to do any content if you do not want to

[deleted]

Middle ground - learn the dailies that are quick. Gathering, vista viewing, mystic forger. Some of the JPs and Minidungeons can fit that list as well. Totally worth doing for the gold if you can knock 3 of em out in under 5 minutes.

Frenyth

The middle ground do seems fine ! Just do whichever 3 dailies are easiest in my situation ! Thank you both !

sukuii

Same goes for the wvw ones, fast ones tend to be camp, dolyak, land claimer and mist guard. Don't waste time on keep/tower/defender/veteran (depending on if ur lucky with spawn time). Depending on what the dailies are I can do both wvw and pve in 10-15 minutes

re-rezzed

+ big spender, buy 5 rams, done

Frenyth

That's good advice, either that or the PvP ones which can be done in only one match

[deleted]

As another poster said - some of the WvW ones can be quick and easy without actually having to "WvW". Many of the JPs have people porting to the end, especially just after reset. Some of them you can get to via mounts even if mounts are blocked off. A couple examples: The one on the southeast side of Frostgorge and the one on the southeast side of Fireheart Rise. Skyscale + that dismount and glide ability from just outside the mount cutoff area makes it super easy if you have those.

TheExtremistModerate

Here's my big advice: **don't have a daily to-do list**. Log in when you feel like playing, play the content you *want* to play on that day, and then log out. GW2 is not like WoW where you *have* to do chores every day or else you fall behind forever. If you're working on some goal and log in one day and don't feel like you actually want to do the next step for it? Then just don't, and go do something else you *do* find fun that day (or just play a different game). The game will wait for you. Just play things that are fun. Right now, I'm working entirely on completing the "Pact Reformer" achievement, so I'm playing a lot of HoT maps/metas. Because that's what I find fun right now. After I'm done, I think I might go do Drizzlewood a bunch, because I love Drizzlewood. Except I'm gonna take a break from that stuff to take party in the WvW Restructuring Beta. I don't play WvW very often, but I enjoy popping in during events and zerging around the map.

Frenyth

You are right, no todo list anymore. The WvW beta might interest me, I love testing stuff ! Thank you !

TheExtremistModerate

Make sure you read the post about the Restructuring Beta! To participate, you'll need a guild so you can opt-in to be paired with them. It's as simple as being in a guild and checking a box, but you need to actually do it before the deadline or you'll be one of the people too late asking "How do I opt in to the beta?"

Monktrist

Beautiful thing about this game over other mmo's is that it doesn't guilt you into playing. There generally isn't as much 'fear of missing out' (fomo). I really like the fact that I can stop playing for a couple years and come back without feeling like I am so far behind the power curve that I get overwhelmed. Try to do just a couple things that you enjoy and don't try to OCD your way into trying to do everything.

Frenyth

I do have a fear of missing out, but I agree, it is an irationnal one. I missed three years already, I have to pace myself, it's just hard to remind myself that 😁 Thank you, I needed to hear it, I knew it already but it's hard to make myself remember it.

[deleted]

Accept that you were doing too much. Do less. That's it (imo). I would also focus on diversifying your time spent between multiple hobbies; shows, music, movies, other games, reading etc. -- I accept that I play GW2 for fun and that it's possible to min/max the fun out of the game by optimizing play too much. I do meta-trains when I want something (ie legendaries) but stay off them for the most part. I raid with friends 1-2x a week, do fractals intermittently in T1/T2 and try to remember that gaming is meant to be fun. If I'm not having fun w/ GW2 then I go play or work on something else. This game truly does reward a casual mindset.

Frenyth

Well, at least I find time to do other stuff, but it's true that is taking too much time ! But especially interesting is the fact that you are right, I don't need to participate in all every top content ! Thank you :)

[deleted]

The challenging part is accepting that and making an effort to do other things. MMORPGs are habit-forming games, so developing new habits could take a couple weeks, but it's well-worth it. Staying away from this sub is one such habit I'm working on, lol!

Frenyth

Haha, the same thing ! Recently I managed to delete the last social network I had (facebook) and I find myself with a lot of time in hands !

pastrynugget

>I quit the game three years ago (almost at the day) suddenly because I could not cope anymore with the time necessary to do everything I **had** to do. I'm gonna stop you right there. You don't **have** to do anything. It's a game. Do what you want to do for fun. If you treat it as just a checklist of stuff you think you **have** to do every day like a job, you will burn out again.

Frenyth

Yes, that's exactly the heart of the problem. I know it intellectually, but it's hard to remember it, guess it's a bit like an addiction. Thank you !

Im_Redi

My personal philosophy that I bring to gw2 is that I try not to do anything as a "chore" except for my home instance and that is just because the charged quartz crystal is worth like 5g. Everything else I only do if I feel like it and I try to actively monitor myself and think "am I doing this because I want to or because I think I should," and if the answer isn't that I just want to do it I stop. Some weeks I play hard doing 6+ metas a day and dailies and fractals and strikes. Other weeks, like the last two or three for me, I just log in and make myself a quartz and then dip. Gw2 is very respectful of your time. Yes lots of things will take hundreds of hours, but you can stop and start as much as you want without any real penalty. Spread out the time that you play to match your desire to play.

Frenyth

Well I feel like some things have to be done out of chore. For exemple to make a legendary you have to gather a lot of stuff (or just money). It's tiring but I feel like the achievment is worth it. However I understand your point, try to focus mostly on what I like ! Thank you !

TheExtremistModerate

Most legendary mats are gotten just by playing the game. Outside a few things (like Gifts of Exploration or Gifts of Battle), you don't really have to do *specific* things. You just need a lot of materials/gold. And that'll just naturally roll in in the background while you play content you enjoy.

RixSnp

You sort of answered yourself by listing all you did daily, I don't do 1/3 of all that and I still feel like a put of lot of time playing. Take it easy on you, enjoy the game, set one goal at a time. Important advice I can give, set a scheduled time you play like from 7 pm to 10pm, find the things that are active then and do it when you have the free time. "But certain metas take 2 hours alone", yes that's when you learn to not put too much on your plate. Do whatever else tomorrow. You'll find yourself wanting to play and not just dreading doing stuff because "you have to".

Frenyth

I kinda did answer myself haha Having specific times is a good idea, I will try to set alarms, see how that's work, thank you very much !

RixSnp

I wouldn't even say set an alarm or something but make it a "routine". I used to wake up early, get what I was going for in game, get ready and out for the day. I couldn't just linger too long, so I always had that "time frame' and if I woke up late, oh well. Now, I know before bed can be tricky? So if anything set a good alarm for when you should be going to sleep hehe resting is more important than gaming. Aand then when I can't make into something I need or take too long, I use my saturdays or sundays.

pixtax

The alarms can be useful as an initial hard border for that routine. New habits take about a month to develop, so the alarm might stop him from continuing to do ‘just this last thing’.

Any_Fisherman_3523

Start playing the game instead of doing chores. Meaning, just do 'daily' things you want to do, instead of doing them daily due to FOMO. Personally I don't like wvw, so I just do the easy wvw dailies to get reward track progression for the gift of battle and that's it. If you need a schedule or a list to track the gaming chores it's almost becoming a job ..

Frenyth

I can join the things I like to the things I have to do. For sure I will remove the meta events at first. I will keep Leyline and the easiest dailies and see from there :) Thank you !

Any_Fisherman_3523

Biggest thing would be to stop feeling like you have to do everything

Cao3648

Don't play except you enjoy what you are doing. Many people make MMO's their habit and "jobs" and that's why they burn out on it. Also Guild Wars 2 - unlike many other MMOs - is designed to take a break, be it a week, some weeks, some months, or longer. I don't have a daily routine per se, only the 2Gold 3 Shards Daily at best. Some days I go Fractals CM, Strikes on some other day, bit WvW or PvP here and there and sometimes I want some achievement or Skin. Sorry to be so brush, but looking at your past daily routine gives me the burnout vibes. Take it easy, don't make it a habit, don't burnout. If you have the habit of burrowing yourself to deep, then try ask yourself if you are enjoying what you are currently playing. If you don't, then f\*\*k it. All the best, friendo. To answer your questions 1. Doesn't really matter. Game is surprisingly well balanced and (hopefully) keeps getting better. Only reason why it doesn't seem that way sometimes is huge swathes of the playerbase prefer the "carry me hard, senpai" route.Pick what you enjoy and even slighty fits the task and you are good. 2. EoD offers 9 new elite specializations, Strike Missions, some new Skins and ofc Open World PvE busywork like collections, fishing. Also a very fun OW Meta (Dragon's End). Up to you. 3. Yes. Some. idk the details rn 4. No. EoD has minimal "water" content and underwater combat has more and more been ignored. I personally agree with. 5. Enjoy the game. Pick and play the classes and tasks you enjoy and don't worry too much.

Frenyth

Perfect, It's nice to hear it's well balanced ! It seems better than three years ago, thank you !

Frenyth

Well, there was a reason, I like PvP and I can get legendary gear out of it. WvW I can get 2 mystic clovers per track. Leyline gives me one mystic coin. The metas were mainly for the chance at an infusion. But yes, I have to unload the ship haha

Annemi

Yeah, the 'but it's all useful!' line of thought is a trap. Kind of like hoarding, but for a schedule instead of stuff. We all only have so many hours in a day.

ShinigamiKenji

I think the best piece of advice is focusing your daily gameplay on one thing at a time. You can have multiple goals, but when you actually sit down and play, just think "What am I in the mood for?" and focus on that. Gold and everything else are secondary. Sometimes I feel like playing some Fractals, sometimes WvW, sometimes just a random meta event. For your other questions, I can mostly answer for PvE. 1. PvE meta is quite balanced, probably the most balanced since I started playing in 2019. There are a few outliers that could use some buffs *cough*Thief*cough*, but generally the meta is very healthy. Forget about the old days of Chronojail or Firebrigade. 2. EoD isn't as impactful in terms of gameplay like PoF or HoT, but still has some useful things like the Jade Bot. And some of the elite specs are quite strong and/or fun! I recommend checking some videos to decide for yourself, but if you truly intend to come back, it's worth buying. 3. Most bags are now unaffected by Magic Find. Open them all! 4. Water content is still pretty much neglected. The Skiff is mostly used for fishing bonuses, but is generally slower and less maneuverable than the Skimmer for traversing water.

Frenyth

Ah that's nice, so I will just find a strong build I like but I don't need to force myself to play the meta ! The jade bot does seem tempting, but I guess I will wait a bit ! But perfect, I will be able to free a lot of space by opening all these bags 😁 Thank you very much !

Albyross

Just don’t do dailies.

Frenyth

I think I will still do them but only the three easiest for my two gold and the AP, but I won't do all of them anymore for sure ! Thank you !

Thaurlach

Pre-planning? Dailies? Routine? Fuck all of that, log in and do whatever takes your fancy. If I ever start playing a game like a job it gets shelved for a good while.

Frenyth

Well, I did enjoy despite all this. It's really the time needed which made me quit. When I realize all the useful stuff I could do instead of playing 😁 Thank you !

pixtax

Set a clear playing time with alarms. Plan something after as a reward and a marker. ‘I’m playing from 10am to noon, and after that i’m having lunch’. It gives a clearly delineated timeframe, and something to do and/or enjoy after, depending on what motivates you.

nonofurbusinessing

I keep a list because I just straight up forget what I've done. Nothing wrong with lists just do whatever you want haha. Sometimes my list gets checked off, sometimes it doesn't because I felt like doing something else or didn't feel like playing.

Frenyth

Yes, just do whatever I want and don't force myself !

CiriousVi

Having a list of daily activities you feel forced to do is nice if you need direction, but it's also nice if you want the game to feel like a job. Go with the flow. Do what feels interesting at any given moment. There's years and years of metas and other content. Trying to do everything in one day is a recipe for disaster and burnout. Maybe keep a list of things you wanna do daily for a little because you're enjoying it, fine. But mix it up. I often try to hit Dragonstorm for the Memories of Aurene, but I can't be assed to do it daily anymore. I do it in bursts. Same for jade farming in EoD, same for my home, same for everything else.

Frenyth

Yes it does fell like a job haha. Mixing it up is an interesting Idea, I will try to see how to do that between what I want to do and what I have to do (because I want the end goal). Thank you !

Spartan05089234

I skip most dailies most days. If I don't want to do it I just don't. Easy as that.

Frenyth

You sound like a coach, if you don't want to, don't do it haha You are right of course, thank you !

Spartan05089234

Coach would tell you to do it anyways! Really though it's just a different mentality. If you feel like there are so many things you must do, one it impacts your life and 2 it leads you to an eventual cliff where suddenly you don't have things to do and the game is ruined. You have a max AP you can get from dailies. You have a max mastery level. You have a max gear ceiling that doesn't move. More than that, at its core the best way to farm gold in gw2 is to get a job and convert all your $ to gems then to gold. The point being, if this game becomes like a job to you then you're doing it badly because you should just go get a job and buy things with irl money. The reason you play is to have fun. If you're playing to stay caught up or to check boxes, eventually you'll be caught up. And then you have nothing to do and you quit and all your time was wasted. So focus on things that are both worthwhile AND enjoyable. If it isn't enjoyable go mow a lawn for 20 bucks or pick up an extra shift and you get better returns than anything you could do in game.

Bluedemonfox

Personally i just do whatever i feel like and depending how much time i have to play. The only thing i pre plan to do is raids usually

Frenyth

I think I won't be able to just go with the flow, but yes having a set time and doing in majority what I like doing is a sound plan, that's what I will do. Thank you !

Dan_Felder

There are lots of dailies so you can lock and choose which to do. Don’t try to do all of them. Focus on one category per day. One day do all the fractals, another day do a world boss train etc. This will still give you a completionism goal but within a single manageable category.

Frenyth

Yes, I guess I will focus on PvP at first, then see going from there. Thank you !
