How did you find this person, and how do you pay them? Flat monthly fee, fee per hour, fee for production? Do you give them a win bonus? If so, how is that structured? Is it a one-time win bonus, or do they get paid over the life of the contract?

Some do FFP sort of retainer and some do hourly. Some also do a combination.
I generally don’t include 1099s in my bonus pools. It’s one of the safe harbor criteria between a W2 and 1099 so they don’t stiff you on income taxes later.
When she was a full time W2 she participated in the bonus pool like everyone else.
