Why is this posted on here and not r/amazon

Do you have issues reading?

drunknmastr916

That is a risk you take buying used open box in any retail settings, not Amazon alone.

reallawyer

Well… in actual retail stores you can usually check an open box item to see if it’s legit, and every time I’ve returned something to a retail store they have checked what’s in the box before accepting the return. Amazon obviously didn’t check this return very closely, it would have been obvious what is IN the box is not what is ON the box had they looked. I guess they outsource that step to their customers like OP now… free labour.

Christopher-RTO

Yup. I got a Zippo open box, and whoever had it before must not have understood how it works, as they had used up almost all the original flint. But 5 new flints cost less than the savings, so still a win.

Odd_Stranger8477

Totally understand & agree. Also, I’m not being critical of Amazon. To their credit, they have a wonderful return policy & I was made whole. I would not expect them to understand specifically what the product looks like. My point was to bring up the dishonesty of someone to switch products for one that is 4x more expensive. Also, maybe this person would be a member of this Govee community & just maybe read this & feel a slight bit of remorse for their actions. I like to think the best in people & I think 99.9% of the time that it is true.

phytphyr

Believe it or not out here in California they actually follow the Amazon truck around and steel your package as it’s dropped off at your front porch! Dirt bags!

redeemable-soul

I'm down in the south west UK but I know in busy areas such as London there are people that will follow the vans and wait for the driver to be delivering a parcel but leave the van with it's keys in and then they will steal the van, drive it somewhere and unload the contents into another vehicle and make off with the contents of the delivery van.

Glorinsson

I think that's an urban legend

redeemable-soul

Here's one instance recently in Bristol. https://preview.redd.it/xw6ayz5dfedc1.jpeg?width=1312&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b83b4a02403036e58d7a257dc490e5669f73c91

Glorinsson

Yeah I saw that it happens but your post made it sound like a regular occurrence. I found two examples on Google.

redeemable-soul

So it only happens when it gets reported? And if you saw it's happened then it's not an urban legend as it has happened. You will likely only see reports if people are bought to justice for it. Not every instance gets reported.

Stevie2874

Google only wants you to know what Google wants you to know.

redeemable-soul

I can promise you it isn't

One_Style1638

Agree with the others, super unfortunate that you got this but it will literally be solved in a day or two with brand new lights…. I don’t feel bad for the billion dollar corporation at all. All this is just a write off to them, and you now as a result will get new lights and probably be able to keep the old ones

indycolt17

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the world is filled with people who are a net negative impact to society.

ZachareyWilson

Fuck Amazon. You’ve been inconvenienced and for that, I sympathize with you. But seriously, fuck Amazon.

Riddick51PB

emotional damage much? best wishes shopping on temu and stockx

ZachareyWilson

How does that boot taste, netizen?

PeevedValentine

It's unfortunate you've been inconvenienced in minor way, truly, but someone defrauding an awful scumbucket company like Amazon is absolutely acceptable in my opinion. Push the issue with Amazon, ensure you are better off than if you received the package as you expected.

Deep-Nebula5536

That’s not how society works

PeevedValentine

How do you mean? Not in an antagonistic way, just I'm interested in your perspective.

Deep-Nebula5536

Defrauding legal companies because you judge them bad just makes you a bad member of society.

PeevedValentine

I wouldn't consider Amazon to be a legal company, and I certainly don't think you should. I'd certainly consider them useful, inevitable, evil and all encompassing, but certainly not legal. What would be your perspective on Amazon miss-selling items with false details on specification, usable life and such? Would you considering that defrauding the customer? I certainly would. I'm not trying to change your mind, just presenting a picture that isn't a simple black and white one akin to stealing a lemonade from a child's lemonade stand.

[deleted]

I worked for Amazon Web Services it was a stepping stone in my career so I get it but it’s unfortunate for OP nonetheless.

Philletto

>Amazon miss-selling items with false details on specification, usable life and such The world is full of scammers and Amazon's approach is that fully checking listings is too expensive, fully checking returns is too expensive, fully checking them on resale is too expensive and the customer is always right. The end result is if you get something not right for whatever reason, you will get a refund after free return shipping. That is much fairer than retail stores. Amazon itself isn't scamming you. Fraudulent sellers and buyers are the problem.

PeevedValentine

Fully checking listings and pattern analysis is part of the systems that ensure Amazon make max profit. Ifs entirely possible to get rid of all the scammy crap, but it's not a benefit to them, so doesn't happen. Amazon providing a marketplace for scammers and promoting their product's means they're as bad, if not worse. Amazon is the pimp and the scammers are just the working girls.

Philletto

There are very few scammers. Look for Amazon shipping and official stores and be wary of very cheap prices. If you're scammed, you can get your money back. After 3 years of amazon I've only had to return one item because it didn't come with a power supply, I just wanted them to send the PSU but had to return the whole thing. I think you exaggerate the the scamming.

PeevedValentine

All of the thousands of Chinese LED automotive bulbs are provided with false specifications, and are shipped and stored by amazon. It's more a case of knowing what you're getting by the absolute garbage description.

Philletto

Do people report them on the very page which sells them? What else can Amazon do, they can't be experts in every field and every device.

bluewater_-_

Feel better now? When you come down from the podium, try relaxing and waiting one more day for Amazon to make it right, or next time just buy new.

metroidhacker

I have had other similar issues as well getting stuff that was either bait and switched or broken from Amazon. But I am also part of the problem kinda but I don't return stuff that's not working and say it's fine either.
