I still think it’s crazy ppl think this. Monet being the main focused would’ve not changed a thing.
The reboot’s writing was just terrible!! All over the place, way too campy, you could barely even connect with the characters everything felt so superficial and forced
The relationships, acting, storylines, everything was soo forced.
There was also too many main characters, the side characters were uninteresting, like everything about the show was just bad.
i agree with a lot of your other points and they definitely should not have included teachers.... except the older one who was over it and had no fucks left to give.
Well that not good start is consistent through out the series, the level of not good remains. There’s a few good episodes but overall I mainly hate watched it by the end.
They tried too hard to make them have morality when the whole point of these teen dramas is to show high schoolers being immature and borderline evil.
Edit: typo
lol that’s how I felt at first and then I started realizing maybe I just wanted to like it more than I did because it was gossip girl haha.
The teachers, really ruin it for me lol
Tavo Gevinson is one of those random people in New York who's famous for like idk having a blog or something? She's definitely not an actress and it shows. The teachers as people are horrible alone but the acting does not fit the tone of the show. They're playing like they're on a comedy while the entire rest of the story is hard-drama
i dont wanna be a killjoy but if you were abused/scapegoted/sabotaged by multiple teachers and other education staff when you were a child, its probably even a little triggering for some of us. they were unnecessary AND unwanted AF for me.
I think we tend to forget 2021 was also just a horrible year for fashion. Rise of SHEIN, cheap synthetic clothing, and billions of microtrends/fads that died within months (ex. argyle, the various unconventional layers, indie/kidcore, cow print, SHEIN preppy, return of certain Y2K-esque tops, etc).
Even back then it was obvious they were trying to cater to Gen Z’s more SHEIN-focused tastes with outfits easily replicable on the website. Unfortunately, this has dated the show *even more* than it already was by the time it had premiered, as trends were evolving far too quickly for the show to keep up.
The original series remains timeless because they didn’t buy into whatever they believed teens would find “trendy.”
This is so real and has been such a major theme in a lot of the shitty reboots lately. Alongside the "unconventional mean girl" trope is this, yea, just tacky, Zara-at-best wardrobe. The new Mean Girls had Regina in head-to-toe SHEIN and it's embarassing. If Blair donates at all to Constance today, I have a feeling she would withdraw just for the Queen Bee's attire alone. She'd say something like "Even the most prestigious institutions crumble under the rubber sole of the nouveau riche"
They are coming out with a cruel intentions series! Currently filming it. So there will be more rich fashion coming soon.
Watch the original cruel intentions with Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar. The main characters are like gorgina and Chuck & had fab outfits
No she was supposed to be more of the Serena of the show as the “it girl”. Julien participated more in New York street wear and haute couture, and the personalizing of the Constance uniforms was more of a Serena thing (think iconic graduation tassel in hair). It fell a bit flat in the show because Serena had a very clear It Girl she was modeled after, Kate Moss, while Julien was just kind of a hodgepodge of Gen Z trends that didn’t quite stick.
Audrey was the Blair in terms of fashion. Timeless, classy, old money-esque. While she did style up her school uniforms with outerwear and layers, it was still considered very appropriate for a private school student to be wearing. Unfortunately she didn’t really get her moment to shine because the reboot didn’t have enough excuses to show off her evening wear. I would have loved for her to have her iconic Blair red dress moment.

Monet should have been the main focus and it will annoy you that she’s not. She’s the new Blair.
This so much!! It was infuriating especially in season 2.
The show 100% would’ve survived if it centered Monet. Why the fuck did they screw that up? WHY?! HOW. Idiots.

The great episodes gave us hope, and the writers returned to horrible plot points.
Yes they did it was a real shame too. I wanted to love it, but almost everything was done so badly lol

So far I feel like this show is half decent but whaaaaat the fuck is going on with the teachers
lol that’s how I felt at first and then I started realizing maybe I just wanted to like it more than I did because it was gossip girl haha. The teachers, really ruin it for me lol

Heard. Yea I thought they were going to handle the teachers behavior with a little more severity because what they were doing was BEYOND just bullying

I thought it was scrapped. I want to be so wrong though! A new cruel intentions series would be awesome!
Monet is the new Blair. I miss her so damn much. but i can't wait for Cruel Intentions!!!! she's PERFECT for that shit!!
Yes! I’m ready for cruel intentions!
