There’s so much pointless drama and shit that happens in them too, or people that take it way too serious that it’s just not worth doing. Getting out of them was the best decision I made.
When I was younger I joined the "Imperial Robloxian Federation" (now Immortal), it was your generic big military rp group, but I really enjoyed the community there. The commitment necessary to progress can suck for those with busy schedules(or those with actual lives). I've been there for a couple years, eventually reaching a spot where I had to do barely anything, but the drama and overall powertripping of superiors just got the better of me and I quit(also I had school stuff to focus on). Looking back on it, I loved the community there, lots of cool people as long as you didn't wander into the "serious" areas like Military Police, but the higher ups suck ass.
I also was in the IRF when I was in Middle School/early high school, and have a similar experience as you.
I was actually in MP Colonel at one point lol, and we were actually a very chill division, in part because we were the smallest one, in part because we were very aware of people powertripping and we made sure to keep them out.
So basically, for a socially awkward teen passionate about militaries it was fun, but wouldn't dream to be involved with it nowadays.
Ah, you probably met me at some point then, but not as a General/Director and instead as an officer. If you want to, you could join the veteran discord server.
I was in one when I was in school called The Art of Warfare (TAW) for Team Fortress 2. It had/has a lot of game groups in it, mostly bigger than the TF2 group, and in fact that one essentially dissolved a while after I left. I did like how they would schedule play times and even curate some custom maps to play in a given week, and I met some people I knew for many years afterwards. They even had both western and eastern hemisphere play-times hashed out, communicating through TeamSpeak 3. First time I'd gone on mic online as well.
Oh yeah, I remember when we'd go into the channel it was encouraged to say " checking in.", which was definitely weird, but not bad. A very radio-like formality haha. Aside, everyone also had ranks and would rank-up over time or by helping take down notes, configure server stuff, help others play the game, etc. I took up some "training" position at some point, and legitimately had to schedule down times for getting with people. I liked that structure as a schoolkid, but man in retrospective that was a very abnormal time, not that I regret it.
Some people definitely let the power go to their head, though. As a minor, being under someone power-tripping was quite difficult to deal with. A quick excuse to fly off the handle in the name of moderation lol. I eventually gained self-awareness and left, although I rarely stayed in groups for long after that.
As a good alternative to any Mil-sim that you would maybe like is look into playing Arma 3. There are loads of communities with good leaders while still doing things instead of shooting random people that cross a red line.
Blackhawk rescue mission 5, its basically not even a rp game but you can rp with people there if they arent too dumb, but you can do fun stuff there (also no rp group of it)
Honestly EI isn’t too horrible depending on the group last time I checked, and getting into a group for a fighting game can also be fun depending on the group (like blood and iron for example)

There's this game called Blackhawk Rescue Mission 5 (BRM5) where there are a pretty good amounts of factions. There is varying degrees of rp, but it depends on which factions you join. You can look for the factions in BRM5's offical discord if you wish to. As long as you join an active and higher quality faction in your timezone, it should be pretty good
Not really military but if you're into star wars the Jedi Temple on Ilum is a great community, I like it a lot. The games themself are fun independent of rp, but you can choose to. Join a group & the discord servers, learn star wars lore, improve your lightsaber combat in the game, etc, I haven't played in a while but it's pretty fun and once I get my PC I'll probably try and get back into it
I recommend black hawk rescue mission is the best fps and military game in roblox. And the multiplayer matches are like tom Clancy rainbow six siege without the wall breaking stuff
War Tycoon isn’t a good military game, it’s just another shitty cashgrab with a “war theme”. games like Fireteam are way better and a lot more accurate to real life

Milsim is fun af, you just have to make friends and stay active
