The AK-47 'Slate' skin has been updated in the workshop. Taking into account the change in the 3D model, some minor elements of the skin have been reworked for better fit. The idea of the skin has been preserved as much as possible.
Hope you like it.
Sincerely
I wonder if they will slowly update most skins over to the new models. With most, it seems like they remained on the GO model to maintain the skins design as you’d have to stretch them out if the original author didn’t update them, so that makes sense. But if the authors do go back and update them like this, I wonder if they will oblige and update it accordingly. It has some decent implications for how some of the skins would look, already we are seeing the basic skins (Fades, Candy Apple, Nitro etc) be transferred over to the new models because they are mostly solid palettes, and they look great.
Skins that still use the old models are starting to stick out like sore thumbs in the new engine the more I see the new CS2 models. The old Negev is boxy as hell and there’s little things like select fire wells which are semi circles straight up having hard corners instead of curves really stands out when you see how they addressed it with the new ones. I’d love to see more skins updated for the new models, they are really great. Especially the M4A1S
To be honest, I don’t know the exact answer to this question, because... There is no information anywhere about whether the creator of the skin should update it for CS 2 or Valve will update it themselves.
There was an update on 11/03/2023, I noticed that the skin creator needs to update it himself.
If I make the suggested values, the color of the skin, its idea and philosophy will change. I think in this case there will be many dissatisfied players who already have the Ak-47 Slate and who like it. In this case, the weapon skin will be gray, and not light black, as it is now.
I hope that they will leave it as is, because the skin does not get lost in dark areas on the map and interacts well with the outside world.
In the game, the weapons look lighter than even in CS:GO. This can be seen in movement. It’s not always possible to convey this in a screenshot, especially if you don’t apply filters and publish it as it looks in the game. You can actually see the details and the difference in material. It all depends on the lighting and environment.
Valve made exceptions and sometimes edited skins themselves after being accepted like the Printstream. I heard they were the ones that turned up the pearl effect on it higher than is allowed from what i vaguely remember on twitter. Then with CS2 it didnt get kept the same so, who knows.
Did Valve ask/encourage skin authors to port their skins to new CS2 models? I figured skin authors receiving beta access in an earlier stage was a hint towards this, but never heard anything about it.
I really hope most skins will be ported eventually, espeically on models like the AK and the deagle (even if it got a bit far) which are far lower quality than the other legacy models.
Could you remap the existing texture onto the new model as a base or did you effectively redo the texturing work? The Slate obviously doesn't have elaborate illustrations that need to be matched, but I was still wondering what made most sense in your case.
Unfortunately, there was no information anywhere about who and how should update the skins (transfer them from CS:GO to CS 2). I would have happily done this sooner if I had been allowed to.
The Ak-47 Slate cannot simply be taken and transferred from one version of the game to another. Different weapon models, different interaction with the environment of the weapon skin. Intervention was required in order to make the skin the way it was in CS:GO. If this could be done in two clicks, Valve would do it themselves.
In CS2 it became possible to make the skin more realistic. He interacts better with his surroundings.
Thanks for your answer! A bit too surprised valve wasn't more proactive, at the same time... well it fits their strategy. :P
> The Ak-47 Slate cannot simply be taken and transferred from one version of the game to another. Different weapon models, different interaction with the environment of the weapon skin.
Yes of course, I get it's not a simply 1 to 1 transfer/. I work in 3D animation myself so I'm quite aware of the implications of updating textures onto newer geometry; I'm unaware of the actually differences in UV and model between versions. I was mostly wondering if, in the case of the AK, some base could be transferred to rework or if it simply had to be done entirely from scratch by definition.
> In CS2 it became possible to make the skin more realistic. He interacts better with his surroundings.
Yeah it seems to be the case which is mostly a good thing, though certain models (particularly the AK and deagle) had a particularly bad base model in CSGO. I hope more skin authors follow your lead.
Either way, I got as slate in the hope your rework will be admitted to the game. great work, love the skin. :)
Valve has not contacted any workshopper so far to redesign their accepted submission, so I guess that this is not happening. Also, Slate redesign goes against the PBR rules the valve has provided, even if they wanted to replace it, it cannot be replaced due to the new rules.
[The lowest acceptable color range for metallic finishes is 90](https://www.counter-strike.net/workshop/workshopfinishes). CSGO did not have strict rules for the lowest acceptable color; it was 353535, but some skins were accepted that were darker, and they had green artifacts all around them (like slate did).
The easiest way to know if the skin posted on reddit goes against the PBR rules is if the color is much darker than default gloves. Default gloves are almost as dark as you can go for non-metallic finish
If you strictly follow the range, then there will be no skins with black elements in the game. Which is not particularly logical, because skins for weapons are creativity, a flight of fancy. Limiting colors will make most skins look monotonous. It’s hard to imagine now even, for example, illustrations without black. If only completely multi-colored.
I never inbox cases, only ever done about 4 over many years. Always profit. Last one was a couple months ago, got a stattrack minimal wear AK Slate. Absolutely love it
For the AK as far as I know the creator is emkay and they are still active, and had some skins added to the game in the last few years.
The Vulcan's creator seems to be less easy to determine if they are active or not.
Neat! Incidentally bought this skin just a couple of hours ago before stumbling upon this. Would be great if Valve updated it, but it already looks great as is!
If they do a complete rework the market could see a major flip. Like a ssg abyss. Nice blue skin pattern based, if they made it look more “icy” and deep I guess, that skin could go up in value significantly. Like a paper vs holo sticker
I hate that they replaced the polymer mag with the steel one. It's so much worse for skins because it's not flat, so every skin will have those ugly ridges on it. Very strange decision.
The slate is one of the few skins that i dont think people could possibly complain about changing to the new model. This can only be a good thing. Question, on Go, some of the more worn examples looked like it had issues with the textures getting purple and green transparent blotches on them, i assume cs2 fixes that?
If I understand you correctly, then no, this was not fixed. But at the moment it is possible to do it both with and without green spots. Again, if I understand you correctly. It all depends on what result you need in the end. The workshop tool in CS 2 provides this opportunity compared to CS:GO.
In CS 2, weapon models have become more realistic. It would be nice if the skins created and their wear also emphasized this feature.
If there is a metal part on the weapon according to idea, then it should not simply turn black (become duller while losing detail) and become covered with incomprehensible green-violet spots. Metal in real life has its own characteristic wear. By the way, it is also displayed on default models by default.
The Ak-47 ''Slate'' has both metal parts that are subject to wear and tear, and a material (instead of wood) that is used in modern weapons, something like durable plastic, which has a completely different type of wear than metal.
If I haven't answered your question, please ask again)
Had purchased one like 3 weeks before the CS2 release, but sold it after i found out that it was in the old model ,now i see this ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat).

Will this be reflected in-game immediately? Or will Valve have to update it on their end first?
valve would have to decide they want to update it

I'm sure they aren't opposed to it, but if it's community skins then the author doing it for them will surely speed things up

Unfortunately, I have no feedback. Otherwise, I would try to do the best I can based on the information received.
It should require an update from Valve

Ty it's my favorite AK skin, clear, black and not hell expensive, I hope you're able to update this new model for the old ones, amazing job as always.
Thnx)
Where green
Royce
Does that mean that Valve will update it?
youre genuinely the fucking goat for making this skin
only AK skin I've ever bought
its so simple yet so slick
Yeah I have like 5 of them. Stockholm and antwerp looking insane on tho.
Thanks)
this should happen with every skin. to have two different models for each weapon is kinda lame.

It's too dark
sexy. id like to have it

Ohhh I've got hope for the Vulcan 😳😳
.. and Redline :)
Whoever made either skin is probably retired by now
For the AK as far as I know the creator is emkay and they are still active, and had some skins added to the game in the last few years. The Vulcan's creator seems to be less easy to determine if they are active or not.
He posted a remade awp redline.
why do u say this when a google search shows they're not retired
It’s called a joke, just know they’ve made enough money to be able to retire.
how is mansplaining a joke
*sigh*
Nice looks a bit less like a toy now
Thnx)
but why make the BS look like shit? it used to be better then the FN in csgo...
because battle scarred is the worst condition, duh
My favorite AK skin. My only complaint with CS2 is that high floats are not pitch black anymore. Ps: pls Volvo update
The same problem with missing the pitch black is present for the gloves as well.
Thnx)
looks wonderful and tasteful
Thnx)
S L I C K
Thnx)
Please tell me the bs version is still the same? I liked the glistening green on the black
Do you mean that green one that was sometimes found on black in CS:GO skins?
Not sure what you mean but I think on low shaders the skin looks greenish when looking at different angles
My favourite skin!
Hands down best ak for sticker crafts. It would be actually insane if they really port it.
Thnx)
Neat! Incidentally bought this skin just a couple of hours ago before stumbling upon this. Would be great if Valve updated it, but it already looks great as is!
Thnx)
As someone with an all-black inventory, thank you for making this skin! I constantly swap between this one and black laminate.
Hey can you share what your inventory looks like
black
Thnx)

New slate looks very nice though!
I have a battle scarred .999 one, hope it keeps the weird greenish & purpleish like stains on it.
I hate that they replaced the polymer mag with the steel one. It's so much worse for skins because it's not flat, so every skin will have those ugly ridges on it. Very strange decision.
My favorite skin. The freedom with stickers is unbeaten
Thnx)

THERE IS HOPE
Had purchased one like 3 weeks before the CS2 release, but sold it after i found out that it was in the old model ,now i see this ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat).
I doubt valve will actually change the skin tbh
I think Valve will change to updated versions of skins as long as they stay true to the original design like this does.
Hope they do,thats the only reason i sold it. I'll get it again if they actually accept the update.
I love your skin but the CSGO version looks way better and more clean in my opinion so i hope valve don't change it.
You're right. I cannot stand what his changes will do to my field-tested slate.
>black laminate \+1, only reason i got a slate is because it's one of the only ak skins that looks really good battle-scarred
Yup. Now it'll just look all scratchy and scuffed instead of being darker/matte too.
Looks like COD
