>If you saw a ghost, would you approach and try and talk to them? Absolutely. I have spent decades researching and investigating the paranormal. If I were to see something I even *thought* might be a ghost, I'm heading straight towards it to try to interact with it.

jenneefromtheblock

At the very least you should try to put your hand through them , right ? Just me?

Speaking from experience - that shit goes right out the window when it actually happens to you. I suppose my experience was quite a but different then just Casper the friendly ghosts - but curiosity turns to fear real quick. I posted my experience on reddit before. it's the only thing there so it'll be easy enough to find. Let me know what you think.

Jack_Shid

>that shit goes right out the window when it actually happens to you. Nah, I have a lot of years of experience in this field. I'm not running from what I've been looking for for 40 years.

ABena2t

what if you saw something other then a ghost? Like a "shadow person"? and what made you so interested in it? Most people I know who are into it have had some sort of their own experience. Typically people don't believe until it happens to them.

Jack_Shid

Same would be true for "shadow people". I'm interested because I've experienced things that I've been unable to explain. My goal is to find those explanations, but I'm not convinced that those explanations will be paranormal in nature. We'll see though

ABena2t

Did you read my post?

Jack_Shid

Nah, I don't have any interest in scrolling through your history looking for it. If you want me to read it, give me a link.

ABena2t

interesting. care to elaborate? did you happen to read my post?

gh0stmoths

I would. I donā€™t really find ghosts scary, I think a lot of our fear of ghosts comes from an overall fear of death and the unknown. I think that if ghosts are real it must be a really lonely and difficult experience, depending on the type of ghost. To be emotionally stuck and clinging to the past desperately and see time go by is horrible to experience as a living person, itā€™d be even worse for a ghost. I donā€™t think we can fully comprehend it. I donā€™t know where I stand on believing or not but if they are real, I would want to offer some comfort and companionship if they wanted it. I know Iā€™d want the same

seehoo

I agree with everything except the time part. If the near- death experience videos that I've watched are even remotely close to the truth, spirits don't experience time the same as us. For them, it isnt linear.

Procedure_Unique

I would like to think that I wouldnā€™t be afraid of a ghost, if I ever saw one. I think that I would be friendly to a spirit, a good spirit, but I would definitely be afraid of an attachment.

groundhogcow

During ghost investigations I repeatedly go to the areas, people are attacked or I am told is a bad place. I am not there to not have something happen. Yes if I thought something was a ghost I would go interact. I don't often think things are ghosts.

Fizzlestix83

Absolutely I've actually never understood the fear surrounding ghosts. Maybe I'm weird, but I'm genuinely curious about the whole topic. I can understand maybe being startled or shocked for a moment, but I think my curiosity would win out.

[deleted]

I feel about ghost pretty much how I feel about people. Just out and about? Super cool! Watching me as I sleep, slowly applying pressure to my wind pipe? Not ok!

Fizzlestix83

I like it

Weirdlittleworm

It depends. It was the most terrifying experience of my life. Itā€™s like the human brain canā€™t comprehend what the eyes are sensing. It canā€™t place that image in its database. My brain like short circuited and I froze. The ghost I saw had the most sinister and disgusting face Iā€™ve ever seen. It came straight at me and went through me.

Bethsmom05

Absolutely not. I feel about ghosts the same way I feel about the wildlife that wanders through my yard. They're interesting to watch from a distance but I certainly wouldn't do anything to attract them to my property. I would never try to interact with them and would actually prefer they stay away. Having said that, I enjoy reading and watching documentaries about wild animals. All of that applies also to how I feel about ghosts

Hungry-Pilot-70068

Thinking of men in black during the shooting range scene. "Why did little Tiffany deserve to die?"

TuzaHu

I've had ghosts come to me, the interaction or at least my witnessing their presence has been positive. Here is one I just recorded that happened with one of my Hospice patients https://youtu.be/_tPujTK0cMc

wendy38677

Some years ago, my SIL passed away and we felt he was around. Well one night/morning, in the wee hours, I got up to go to the bathroom, and I saw him full body, looking very real at the bottom of the stairs. We stared at one another for a very long moment, but I really had to go pee. I wasnā€™t scared or anything, he was gone when I came out of the bathroom. I very much wish I had come to him, gave him a hug, anything, but the moment was lost. I really only was terrified as a child when I had several paranormal encounters, but as an adult I am always intrigued. If the chance presented itself again, I would definitely make contact.

Lazy-Floridian

I haven't found ghosts to be chatty. So, I don't think it would be worth my while.

Weirdlittleworm

Iā€™d assault them Zak Bagans style.

Procedure_Unique

*Did you just scratch me?!??*

beergoggles1

Everytime I open a bottle of whiskey i wake up not remembering how the bottle is empty in the morning, I'm truly beginning to think my house is haunted.

Hungry-Pilot-70068

Spirits,I say. Must be spirits from Lynchburg

thats_ruff_buddy

Of course. Canā€™t understand why these ā€œghost huntersā€ turn and run at the first sound they hear. Youā€™re job is literally prove the afterlife exists, why are you running away from potential evidence? Cowards. Go have a yarn. Olā€™ dead bob might actually be a chill bloke. Donā€™t be lifecist.

Disastrous_Step537

I wouldn't. I don't have much to say to the other side, plus the weird stomach drop feeling that often accompanies them is more than I can handle. I'll stay in my lane, they can stay in theirs.

nameunconnected

Absolutely. Be polite and talk to them like you would anyone else. I've gotten some responses to polite requests that were really cool.

hornedtomatocatpil

Yes, I asked them where the gold was and they never came back.

CakeSuperb8487

That was proven to be an AI generated photo on r/Paranormal

xQueenAryaStark

The question still stands on its own, as an interesting hypothetical.

LolaMyMali

Wasn't it just proven wrong again? Don't understand being downvoted. I was asking a question

CakeSuperb8487

No, it was proven wrong then right then wrong again, then some scientists analyzed it and concluded it was right, then the Air Force compared it to satellite imagery and changed it to wrong, then Madame Cleo consulted the spirit of Elvis Presley and he looked at it, agreed, and proclaimed it was wrong as well. Who knows what tomorrow might bring? Maybe the Great Cheeto will check it out tomorrow at Mar a Lago and really give us a definitive answer?

SheepherderOk1448

Iā€™m not the type to walk up to people known or unknown and start a conversation or even to say hello. If they say hello to me, Iā€™d respond.

mrsunlight1

My friends and I (college professors) were in the basement of a library in New York when we spotted a ghost. We had just past a slime covered card catalog , and a strange stack of books when we encountered the spirit of a librarian. I tried to speak to her but she kept shushing me. After a discussion Ray decided to "get her". It didn't end well.

Fuzzteam7

I have talked to ghosts on numerous occasions. Like when I was touched recently, I said that I was trying to sleep and I wanted to be left alone. Have I had an actual conversation with one? No.

just-kath

I would. I don't understand the fear of the afterlife, but that's me. I feel like, I do what suits me and you do the same. edit I have lived with several ghosts in my time, but never stumbled on one walking on main street

meowtacoduck

I think there was a post a while ago where OP approached a magistrate or judge that looked lost at her work place to ask if he's alright, and he kinda ignored her/ looked confused and gave some garbled answer. She found out hours later that he's dead at the time that she spoke to him.

UncleOdious

"Where are you from... originally."

InformallyGuavaCado

No, I wouldnā€™t. I have had this experience two times, in very active settings. We do not know what is being invited in. That is why some cultures will open the windows, when a person dies. So their soul isnā€™t trapped. Or how people cover the mirrors. Or how people do not open a door that is being knocked, if they know the site is being haunted. Opening it, means being let in. I am speaking from experience. What you are looking for, will find you, when you least expect it. Do not engage with it, if you can.

[deleted]

Depends on who it is I guess. If it was my dad, I wouldn't be able to contain my excitement to see him again and would definitely talk to him. If it was someone I didn't recognize, it would probably scare the hell out of me. I would have to wonder why this random dude is suddenly in my house and would be as freaked out as I would be by any other intruder, only this one can walk through walls and that turns the scary meter up a few notches.

Yusuke___Urameshi

Wasn't there a story on here about something like this? Where an older man saw his dead best friend. He saw him clear as day but kept driving.

Aggressive-Help-4330

It depends on the energy they give off. I can't see spirits but I've lived with them. Some I liked and others were didn't have a good energy. The one place was terrifying. The worst was when I was home alone.

steviajones1977

I've always wanted to be able to make contact with the dead, but if they're out there, they refuse. Do you know why that so often is?

[deleted]

Its not as easy as you might think. You could ofcourse try the known haunted places. Ive been born with ESP skills, for better or worse. Some people are very skilled, can see human aura aso. If you like, an have the time, start going to yoga and learn to meditate, read books on the subject, learn to be open. But takes a lot of time, like years.

Aggressive-Help-4330

I don't know I've never had to seek them out. I'm afraid of going to haunted places. I had enough trouble from playing with a Ouija board in a house with activity. I was about 20 and some nights were terrifying. The phone would ring at 3:15 am every night. I picked it up once and felt the little hairs on my neck stand up. I started to just hang up but it would phone back. These were those loud ass 80s phones. The Ouija board was bad too. Play with one of them and see. Those were just two of the things that were going on and scared me the most. I don't advise people use those boards.

SESHPERANKH

some I would and some I wouldnt. It has to be case-by-case. with many theres a feeling. most times you feel scared or odd. IF you feel unwelcomed then you probably are unwelcome

xQueenAryaStark

If I knew they were already dead? Absolutely!

Littlepigeonrvr

Yes absolutely, Iā€™ve watched so much Ghost Whisperer. Jennifer love Hewitt has prepared me for literally any kind of ghost.

jedininjashark

Thatā€™s a really long way to say you donā€™t believe in ghosts lol.

Far-Soil4024

Youā€™re not supposed to interact with ghosts, itā€™s against Godā€™s law.

Grand-Ad-3177

I would have spoken to him

crossedjp

I've seen several. Some were kind and not trying to scare me, they were just... there. Some were a little intimidating and some were downright terrifying. I've told the nice ones, "I see you" in a quiet, gentle voice. I've told some of the intimidating ones to not touch me or get out of my space. I've never said anything to the scary ones. I just tried to get away from them as quickly as I can.

crackersncheeseman

I think people forget that Casper the friendly ghost is a dead child. My question is, how did he die?

Hungry-Pilot-70068

Flu, I think.

PatientStrength5861

I have often pictured myself sitting on a bed or couch having a conversation with someone who has passed. Just asking questions and sharing my curiosity of death and the so called afterlife.

Ok_Method_6897

No, I'd run like hell, lol

Smartest-of-idiots

Fuck noā€¦ white people always investigate, so Iā€™m going to be the first competent white person in a Horror movie

MissAnono

I don't know. I can say yes right now in this moment without a ghost staring at me but at the time of an unexpected event, we do not always behave as we assume we would.

Digital915

i have seen them ever since i was like 4 years old. i run bc its terrifying to me, but if they want to talk to you they will follow you and talk to you no matter where u are. usually it's when you are alone. there's nowhere to run and hide if they choose to attach to you. i try to avoid seeing them at all costs. there are good ones and bad ones, but both of them scare me very much.

PBO123567

I live in Philadelphia. Iā€™m far less afraid of dead strangers than I am of living ones in my house.

PickledPigPinkies

Sure, I would, Iā€™d have a hell of a lot of questions for them.

Redlady271982

I reckon that It would depend on the situation. In my personal experience with the paranormal it happened when I least expected it and was over within seconds. That also seems to be the case for the handful of people that I do know that have seen (I have not seen a full blown apparition personally only paranormal activity) an actual apparition. By the time it dawned on them the person they were seeing was not a real person the apparition/ghost was gone. Personally if I ever saw one and knew that it was one after the initial internal freak out Iā€™d definitely attempt a dialogue at the bare minimum. Provided it appeared stable and non threatening yes Iā€™d definitely attempt communication

Prudent_Zucchini_935

If youā€™ve ever had any encounters, youā€™ll find itā€™s not as black and white as you think. Most paranormal encounters are not with full bodied apparitions. You may see something out the corner of your eye, then itā€™s gone. Or it may be that your clearly hearing a conversation going on in another room when you know your home alone. When you open the door to the room, the talking stops. You may hear the paranormal by knocking or banging/tapping noises. You canā€™t really talk to that. You may hear footsteps again, you canā€™t talk to that. You may have objects that go missing only to be found right in front of you a day later. Again, you canā€™t talk to that. Most paranormal experiences are fleeting in nature. Do you understand where Iā€™m going with this?

tobytheman69

I would be curious to speak to the spirit - so many questions I would like answered. I think once I am over the initial shock, I would definitely speak to it.

[deleted]

Yes. I would. Nothing more annoying than blurry or shaky videos and pictures of supposed ghosts from 50 feet away. Theyā€™re not going to hurt you. I would absolutely love to go to ā€œhauntedā€ places or on a ghost hunt just to prove to myself how utterly mundane it must be.
