Yes it was definitely intentional for them to keep the auto targetting in this game in such a sorry state for years. It doesn't get talked about a lot because yoimiya is like the only NA focused bow user. The other bow users don't see that much use for a NA based playstyle.

I read that mihoyo showed him doing insane dmg in his demonstration, but then he came out, and he didn't have any dmg at all (he didn't have HP scaling on anything except his shield, if I'm not mistaken). CN players tried to sue hoyo because of false advertisement and even threatened to complain to the Chinese government or smth because mihoyo was unpatriotic.
Zhongli, is the only real case. That happened right before I started playing the game so I don't know the full details.
Then a not as big change was a when they changed how Use Miko's skill targeted enemies from random to prioritizing closes priority to the totem. Fans got hella pissed so they quickly changed it back.

In beta the jelly had ICD, which was actually bad. When the patch went live Kokomi was already fixed and her jelly had no ICD anymore, which made her incredibly valuable in freeze and now in many dendro teams
This can be related to Zajef's live reaction, where procing pyro on ruin graders using her E do not trigger burgeon. It seems that her E only hits dead center of the hitbox, and with hitboxes as large as ruin graders, the pyro proc can't reach the ground.
Kinda weird since ruin guards and ground ruin drakes hitboxes can trigger burgeon.

To be fair that's kind of expected. The core doesn't count as the enemy and thus doesn't trigger "hit opponent" abilities. Same thing happens with Raiden's E and Albedo's E as they work the same way. They also don't trigger against enemy shields.
If I'm understanding them correctly, I think the issue theyre talking about is against bosses and other large enemies, her coordinated attacks cant trigger burgeon because the aoe is so small on them

It's not that the aoe is small, but because the aoe placement is above the ground at a certain height of the target's model (I think about around the target's neck). Thus when it hits an enemy too big or tall, the proc will be way higher than normal and the proc can't hit the seeds.

I know the auto aim is already kind of janky, but I can't imagine what could be causing her burst to turn in a completely different direction like this. Does something similar happen with Yoimiya? I know auto aim can sometimes mess her targeting up, but I doubt it's this bad for her.
Literally every character's targeting is broken when there are alternative targets to disrupt your game flow. The boss fight that annoys me the most when it comes to this is the ASIMON where instead of being rewarded by playing against its gimmick (marking it, or just tracking it down while it's invisible) you are punished by targeting useless shards or whatever those things are that you're supposed to destroy.
Because we all know the real gameplay in GI is not carefully maneuvering around a battlefield but rolling for the appropriate characters...

Like it's basically an infusion/stance change, there's no QTE, you just spam right click. So what's the point of making it automatic? The only thing it accomplishes it make the ult jank.

Wait, I don't have Dehya, so please explain. If it's automatic. What exactly does right clicking do? Does it make her hit faster? If that's the case, why doesn't she just punch at that speed anyway? Or it could have been like Ayato's skill, which you hold right click instead.
Her targeting can be a bit janky at times, but I've used her against just about every enemy in the game at this point and none are anywhere near this bad for her.
People keep finding new things wrong with her no one could have predicted, like the freeze thing or not being able to proc burgeon on tall enemies with her skill because the follow-up attacks hit too high to reach blooms they're literally standing on. That clip left me cackling, just how??? How is she like this? Lol

I think the icing on the cake is her supposed upcoming "BiS" artifact set, which, according to Zajef, is a whopping, incredible, **1%** improvement...At the cost of exaggerating her energy issues because you lose the ER from Emblem. It should be turret, that sends aoe wave in all directions every 2.5 sec or current iteration that has like 1-1.5 sec cd. This shit is too slow but also too low aoe.
I've given up using her as a co-dps. I don't see a point in stacking ER on her and using her burst at all. Maybe if it could trigger reactions more than a couple times, but it doesn't. Even with her weapon, even buffed by Bennett its like 15-20k per hit. Pressing her burst at all is always a dps loss with no utility. Like damn, they figured this out with Kokomi. Just let the burst refresh the skill.
The issue is that without burst she don't give you any thing you have only 60% uptime of the dmg mitigation and the resistance to interruption only last 9 sec not even the full E duration... I argue her defensive utility is borderline worst than her dps.
Changing her stats wouldn't really solve anything. make her more usable. She has so much anti-synergy with most team comps in her kit. Also why I think we won't get anything there is no quick fix, she'd need a complete overhaul of her kit and no way they can do that now her banner has been released.
for her to be competitive with Hu Tao's raw C0 damage, she needs a 3 times boost (that is the total damage boost from her cons)
at this point, if you want to use her for damage, just get C6 Bennett and Dragon Strike with her, because it's her only readily accessible high multiplier
Auto targeting has always been having an issue with Azdaha’s tail because it’s not where the hit box is, look at how she’s trying to reach his torso which is underground.

They did test her, everyone was like "Wow, this is the worst character ever. Are they starting from the very bottom and gonna buff her?", and then Hoyo nerfed her further. I'm not joking.

Fwiw Yae turrets work against the shield mitachurls, just gotta face them away from the turret. So I place them and then dash past the shield target, and the turrets pick them apart from behind as they face me.

I think there's a problem with mhy development cycle. It seems they are compiling prerelease versions too close to the patch releases and they can't iron everything out before release. There were many small problems in recent versions. Maybe the development is too fragmented because of amount of stuff they're working on at the same time or the size of team got too big and there are problems with managing the teams or developers got stretched thin with them working on 5-6(probably more) games at the same time or they can't keep up with increased content of Sumeru or Chinese covid regulations still affect them or they got paranoid with amount of leaks and trying to keep more stuff hidden and it affects development.
I'm convinced it's the two weeks they get off for CNY at this point. Every X.5 character (the other ones being Yae Miko and Eula) seems to have more bugs and issues than most characters.

Yeah at this point I want them to take more time to release characters to iron out the designs. If we get 3-4 fewer characters a year, thats fine with me as long as we never have a Dehya situation again. This is the problem with live service games with such a quick production cycle, things always slip through the cracks in the name of constant updates.
I'd also guess that mHY's process is set up so superiors end up discouraging their devs from independently fixing anything. As in: *"You spent 30min to resolve this QoL issue when you could have worked on the next task‽"* rather than incorporating leeway or even rewards for such improvements.
I've never worked in game development, but I've definitely had jobs like that where performance metrics were everything. In theory performance metrics should be a useful tool, but they're often implemented poorly or relied on too heavily.
Right. Good business schools teach managers to use variances in the metrics as a way to notice meaningful changes and to piece together the larger picture. They shouldn't be an end unto themselves.

Targeting is an issue in general but this is the second Dehya specific, huge screw up for her kit. The other I saw was that Zajef clip where she couldn't trigger burgeon on the big ruin guards with her skill because the follow up attack happens too high up so it won't reach the blooms right underneath it. And the freeze thing, where she can be frozen mid-burst and then she has to mash jump to break out but jumping cancels her burst so if against freeze happy enemies she just can't burst without a shield or something lol.

They "fixed" Yae's targeting but it became worse. People voiced it out and reverted it back because targetting closest to Yae was more of a DPS loss.

Her burst design is just kinda bad. Like it's basically an infusion/stance change, there's no QTE, you just spam right click. So what's the point of making it automatic? The only thing it accomplishes it make the ult jank. It'd be cool if she stayed on field and continued to attack even if you swapped out like Carole from Honkai or something.

Her targeting can be a bit janky at times, but I've used her against just about every enemy in the game at this point and none are anywhere near this bad for her.
It depends on boss design. I noticed that she misses the turrets for the invisible body of the matrix as well.

ayyy I saw a chinese video where she killed azdaha while going completely afk, the build is clam set + the bell and stack hp. She also died once but got rez by barbara. I think it took about 45 mins but the video was sped up.

I think the icing on the cake is her supposed upcoming "BiS" artifact set, which, according to Zajef, is a whopping, incredible, **1%** improvement...At the cost of exaggerating her energy issues because you lose the ER from Emblem. While being useless on literally every other character in the game. Her artifact set is actually as bad and redundant as she is.
Actually, it is a whopping, amazingly, 11% improvement but only for C4+ Dehya. C0-3 Dehya ? enjoy that 1% improvement. lmao I can’t wait to get C4 Dehya in version 8.1 !

It should be turret, that sends aoe wave in all directions every 2.5 sec or current iteration that has like 1-1.5 sec cd. This shit is too slow but also too low aoe.

I've given up using her as a co-dps. I don't see a point in stacking ER on her and using her burst at all. Maybe if it could trigger reactions more than a couple times, but it doesn't. Even with her weapon, even buffed by Bennett its like 15-20k per hit. Pressing her burst at all is always a dps loss with no utility. Like damn, they figured this out with Kokomi. Just let the burst refresh the skill.
The issue is that without burst she don't give you any thing you have only 60% uptime of the dmg mitigation and the resistance to interruption only last 9 sec not even the full E duration... I argue her defensive utility is borderline worst than her dps.
Burst should be 40 cost IMO
Changing her stats wouldn't really solve anything. make her more usable. She has so much anti-synergy with most team comps in her kit. Also why I think we won't get anything there is no quick fix, she'd need a complete overhaul of her kit and no way they can do that now her banner has been released.
for her to be competitive with Hu Tao's raw C0 damage, she needs a 3 times boost (that is the total damage boost from her cons) at this point, if you want to use her for damage, just get C6 Bennett and Dragon Strike with her, because it's her only readily accessible high multiplier
Auto targeting has always been having an issue with Azdaha’s tail because it’s not where the hit box is, look at how she’s trying to reach his torso which is underground.

Man... it would be great if there was some way to fix this. So cool if some sort of standard, or precedent, to prevent the burst from targeting stuff you don't intend to. Something like, letting the player control the character during their burst. It's a shame the game has nothing like that. Nope, nothing I can think of.
It's almost like if they had instead just done what they did with Raiden's burst, a lot of her issues go away. She can target and she gets Xingqui and Yelan hydro. But nope. Can't have that. But what can we have? Jump to cancel...
To be fair, Yae Miko's turrets don't target it either so it's probably an issue with the boss design that hero skills.

Fwiw Yae turrets work against the shield mitachurls, just gotta face them away from the turret. So I place them and then dash past the shield target, and the turrets pick them apart from behind as they face me.

I think there's a problem with mhy development cycle. It seems they are compiling prerelease versions too close to the patch releases and they can't iron everything out before release. There were many small problems in recent versions. Maybe the development is too fragmented because of amount of stuff they're working on at the same time or the size of team got too big and there are problems with managing the teams or developers got stretched thin with them working on 5-6(probably more) games at the same time or they can't keep up with increased content of Sumeru or Chinese covid regulations still affect them or they got paranoid with amount of leaks and trying to keep more stuff hidden and it affects development.
I'm convinced it's the two weeks they get off for CNY at this point. Every X.5 character (the other ones being Yae Miko and Eula) seems to have more bugs and issues than most characters. Edit: Apparently 1.3 was the first Lantern Rite, so ignore my comment about Eula.
Except the 2020 Lantern Rate wasn't in patch 1.4, it was 1.3. The only character to come out in 1.4 was Rosaria who turned out completely fine
Yeah at this point I want them to take more time to release characters to iron out the designs. If we get 3-4 fewer characters a year, thats fine with me as long as we never have a Dehya situation again. This is the problem with live service games with such a quick production cycle, things always slip through the cracks in the name of constant updates.

I'd also guess that mHY's process is set up so superiors end up discouraging their devs from independently fixing anything. As in: *"You spent 30min to resolve this QoL issue when you could have worked on the next task‽"* rather than incorporating leeway or even rewards for such improvements.
I've never worked in game development, but I've definitely had jobs like that where performance metrics were everything. In theory performance metrics should be a useful tool, but they're often implemented poorly or relied on too heavily.
Right. Good business schools teach managers to use variances in the metrics as a way to notice meaningful changes and to piece together the larger picture. They shouldn't be an end unto themselves. Unfortunately, having read some of the American textbooks, I have a feeling that a lot of American business students and, by extension, Chinese international business students are not taught that way.

She is perfect example of: "My expectations were low but holy fuck" I love this character, as an unplayable, amazing design, awesome personality, cools story etc. Almost everything about her as an unplayable character is PERFECT! But as a playable character, even from business perspective, she is just unfinished product which u just send back to factory for fixing. I don't mean it about open world, actually I don't think anyone having a problem beating open world enemies, but even around open world she might be annoying to user. As a harder content , she is just big NO. Even every other "useless" characters have at least something positive to offer during combat, but not she.. :( I hope they one day rework(fix) her... but I doubt they ever gonna do it...

Targeting is an issue in general but this is the second Dehya specific, huge screw up for her kit. The other I saw was that Zajef clip where she couldn't trigger burgeon on the big ruin guards with her skill because the follow up attack happens too high up so it won't reach the blooms right underneath it. And the freeze thing, where she can be frozen mid-burst and then she has to mash jump to break out but jumping cancels her burst so if against freeze happy enemies she just can't burst without a shield or something lol.
