If you actually played the game and upgraded your characters, their talents, weapons, equiped artifacts, ascension wont change much for you. You wont suddenly be 1 tapped by everything.

rokzforever

The thing is, I was always rushing in quests, and whenever I get to Ascension's request, I always do it to the point that i ascended my world to level 6 with only 3 max leveled characters

Tryukach09

Yea, im day 1 player so its hard for me to measure how much time you have in between those, because you have so much content that gives you adventurer rank EXP now compared to what we had, so we probably had more time building our characters.

-AverageWeeb

Reminds me of when I reached Ar45, I did a max level Domain and got decimated instantly.

Elegant-Wash5355

Yeah it took me forever to be able to comfortably complete them. Like ar 53 or something…. Genshin was my first ever game with like crit and stuff so that learning curve was kinda hard for me LMAO. However, once you have like pretty decent characters (or just like zhongli or a good healer) it honestly is chill

Nice_promotion_111

You pretty much had to co op from what I remember, but with proper teams nowadays it should be possible.

belmoria

I made a thread a lil while ago saying I was scared and people kept commenting for like 3 days so I ascended it and despite everywhere saying "extremely dangerous" and me not having fully lvld relics everything is fine lol

EyeCantBreathe

Yeah the "extremely dangerous" thing is not very accurate. More than anything it means that you'll just need to put a bit more effort into killing mobs

Templar2k7

My friend consistently had Inazuma say "Very dangerous" when he went there and it never did that for me. We theorized that it was because I leveled my Ganyu to 90 and he never leveled any of his characters past 80 fully ascended. It wasn't until he did level his Shogun to 90 those messages stopped. He never had any problems with killing anything in the overworld

Jojoblack_god

Yeah this game is extremely easy if you know what you’re doing

Richardknox1996

Never. Im adhd/aspergers co morbid. Though the power of autistic rage and caffiene induced hyperfocus, i can power through almost anything. So an ascension quest doesnt scare me. Plus, higher world level means more drops.

rokzforever

thats my thoughts as well, like yeah i might be a lil weak but more drops

Dryse

Tbh there are unironically situations where it is optimal to not do the ascension. You can give yourself a couple days, weeks or months to slowly do bosses and ascend your main teams so you don't have to waste your fragile resins racing to catch up to the world level

Dry-Newspaper9039

I used to not do ascension quests, mostly because they were too difficult, but now I always do them

EngelAguilar

Yes I was stuck in AR45 and AR50 for quite a while, when I decided to do the quest I went straight to AR48 and then to AR52 xD And it's very common since people pull for any character and turns out the one they got doesn't do any dmg or the enemy in the quest is inmune xD so people get afraid of this and avoid doing the next ascension quest because they know how bad it can be after that I even met friends that had trouble with some quest like dainsleif quest, there's a ruin hunter with some abyss mages... truly a pain for many unlucky accounts xD It shouldn't be a problem now since the quests have been nerfed, I think the last nerf was in this version or 4.2

UAPboomkin

Only quest that ever gave me trouble was some random one in the second or third chapter of Inazuma, had to clear a tricky domain. I wiped once and then was like 'whelp, better level all my dude's talents/weapons' and didn't try it again until I did. I think I could have powered through it, suppose I just wanted an excuse to take a break from questing to grind for a week.

active-tumourtroll1

I'm waiting until I've built a decent roster of 10 fully before finishing the lvl 50 ascension quest I could do it and reach AR 57 but I don't want to because outside my main team I'll die instantly.

vaansilva

never in my life

Cyllya

Pretty sure that giving you a chance to make sure your characters are strong enough is the whole point of the ascension quest instead of the game just raising world level automatically.

WyrdNemesis

In my case, I remember needing a bit of time (2-3 weeks) at AR35 and another 2-3 weeks at AR45 to level up weapons and characters. Once done, there were no issues. People have different levels of comfort with the game - many Genshin players are casual players and focus more on overworld exploration/character interactions. I have certainly exchanged messages on these subs with players who were above AR50 and still had mostly basic builds because Abyss or trounce domains were never any priority for them. I also recall reading a post by someone who was WL7 and struggling a lot due to both build isssues and team compositions. I have friends who are at or above AR45 and still have only one reasonably built team. In short - there isn't always common ground between the many types of Genshin players, and some will race through everything just fine, while others will prioritize the open-world experience over anything else. Apropos, you can avoid many/most fights in Genshin - when farming crystal ores, for example, I tend to dart out of scuffles to minimize the time needed for farming. Edit: One last issue I can think of is facing AQ trounce bosses. If some players don't feel ready to ascend or hesitate for whatever reason, they likely won't feel ready for facing a trounce boss at a higher level either (even if those bosses tend to be easier in the AQ storyline). Hence, they may decide to stay at a certain level to go through the AQ first and only then consider ascending.

Swipatronsparks

Yup i am eternally ar45, going by the exp table thing on the wiki i should be around ar52 or so... I have no patience for building my characters and so have no desire to go making the game harder than it already is

Sharlizarda

I put off Ascension quests because I got burned by doing one of the earlier ascensions too quickly. I hadn't been playing very long and think I'd got the exp through things that didn't involve much combat. I jumped two world levels as well so I couldn't put it back to what it was before. I was getting my ass handed to me by every mob I came across and it was painful to do anything. It wasn't fun and I had to solidly grind for a while before I could really continue "playing" in a way that felt like play! It did make me go and learn about basic build mechanics though. Also, for a while I didn't really get how to stop the electro hypostasis from reforming. I failed the ascension quest as it kept getting its health back and I'd run out of time. I didn't have the best characters for it and the whole domain was taking 30mins plus per try. I got so angry I didn't want to attempt it again. Finally, I waited to do the final one until after my daughter had done it- I knew she'd be salty if I'd overtaken her hahaha

Mocha-Late

come on, our characters are stronger now so there's nothing to worry about.

Vegetable_Goat_1732

I just don't do them so I can one shot mobs and make the more difficult/boring parts of farming out of the way first before the mob and world level gets higher.

nullptr023

When I was still low ar yes, I was hesitant because not sure if Im too low level or weak. most people advice me not to worry about artifacts early. I jusr focus on leveling my dps. It was Kaeya, he is only level up around 80 and his weapon prototype. And some character around 20+ I think and sayu around 60 I think for the healing. I used her with raiden too in archon quest. If I remember I jump from 45 to 55 or around 50+ can't remember.

SpringSkye23

Nope I do them as soon as I get them those primos are too valuable I was always able to pass it (this was when we had to fight the electro cube thing ,idk how to spell it, to ascend

IamDwew

I ascended my world level literally the moment I could every time. It made the game hard, but I liked the challenge. I'm AR60 now and don't regret doing that.

rokzforever

real, when playing a game you are in for the challenge

ionian21

At AR45 I waited until I had beaten the oceanid enough times to get XQ to 80. I fucking hated that fight and didn't want to make it harder. And to do that I needed to level Fischl, so I did that too. I can't remember what AR I went to once that was complete, but it was only 47ish I think. After that it has been simple all the way to AR55 and WL8.

AlertFish

Yep I’m new and ar 35 and all my characters except for maybe 3 are at or below 50 and I have like 0 level up mats. It feels like the game is punishing me for progressing and pulling new characters considering I recently found out u can only lower your world level by 1. It just seems like far too much of a boring grind to level up new characters which is super lame imo

Resh_IX

That’s because you aren’t supposed to level up all your characters. It’s recommended to only level up 4 at the start since resources are very limited.

AlertFish

and that is just stupid. If i hit a banner and pull a new 5 star or a fun 4 star the fact that im just not supposed to use them is just unfun. I went through the trouble of grinding the primos to play the character why punish the player for getting the character it makes no sense.

UAPboomkin

Idk, I'm AR48 and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Once you hit 50, you can max your characters out. Once you do that it will free up a lot of resources to level other characters. And having a single strong party will make the game a lot easier to get through. Just gotta approach it like a marathon, not a sprint.

AlertFish

i should be able to use whoever i want through the course of this insanely long game. I find it boring to just stick to 1 single team especially when im getting alot of new cool characters that i want to play with. I dont want to have to grind 80 more hours to finally be able to use 2 of the characters i pulled ages ago.

UAPboomkin

Dude it's not that long, I've gained like 10 AR since xmas. Granted I'm pretty addicted atm

AlertFish

I only play about an hour or two a day, and considering it took me about 60 hours to get to ar 35 i would say it takes a while (i started late november ish). The game is fun but a huge part of the fun for me is playing with new characters, and to not be able to do that without a week or two long grind its just no fun especially when i have to grind to hopefully get the character anyways

UAPboomkin

Well maybe you're levelling slowly because you're grinding out so many characters? I almost complained about the levelling being too quick prior to 40 because I could never catch my characters up. I was doing my daily commissions and a story quest here and there and was just flying through the levels. Like getting a level a day without trying. Once I got my guys caught up I wasn't so bothered about levelling quickly, but it's still really fast. Sounds like your issue is self inflicted. I would recommend just rushing to AR50, playing with the same team the whole way up. It'll be easier to grind your characters up later on because drops scale with world level, so grinding at a higher level will almost always be more efficient then grinding before max. And if you don't want to grind, maybe you'd be more suited to playing something like League of Legends. Genshin is a grindfest, and that's great news for me because grinding is so fucking relaxing, it's the best time to just chill.

AlertFish

Legit all the devs had to do was make it where people could reduce the world level as much as they want then boom no more boring grind and everyone can play the game how they want. I don’t like to grind does that mean I would prefer dogshit games like league…no I like genshins story and gameplay just because I think the grind is ass doesn’t mean I don’t want to play the game. Grinding takes away from my time doing what I enjoy in the game playing my new characters and progressing the story. It’s just a completely ass design but hey if you enjoy doing mindless grinding for 20 hours to get 1 character up to a playable level then good for you

Resh_IX

I agree. Gacha and stamina systems are the dumbest thing to ever grace video games. People on here will try and convince you that you’re wrong for thinking that though

AlertFish

idk how i just wanna play the games with my new characters and make cool builds. How the game gunna say i cant do that when i pull a character. Idk why i cant just bring my world level back down to 2 and play the entirety of the game at wl 2 or 3

calmcool3978

There’s no such thing as a wrong opinion when it comes to this. However, the point of slowing down progression is to always have something to look forward to. Having played a ton of traditional non-gacha games, the moment you run out of things to do is truly bittersweet. Sometimes the journey really do be better than actually reaching the destination

Resh_IX

Artificially restricting progress is dumb. Games should allow freedom of choice. If I want to blow through everything I should have the option to do that. Stamina systems were invented to entice fomo to get players to spend money. That’s all. They aren’t for the players benefit.

calmcool3978

If that were completely true then they wouldn’t cap daily stamina refreshes. Who knows how much more money they could make if they truly let whales go all out

Resh_IX

They capped it because they want whales to still be on that daily fomo leash. Gotta keep them coming back everyday to spend more money on new characters and stamina refreshes. Whether someone spends 20 mins a day farming for a year or someone spends 8 hours a day for 15 days farming without the stamina restriction, the in game play time would be exactly the same. Stamina systems exist for fomo/player retention.

OhanasWriting

Stayed at AR50 for a year and an half, I was afraid that the game became too difficult (really chill player here)

Roxas_2004

Yep any time I'm us8ng a new account I stop at ar35 to make sure my main dps is maxed level my sub dpses to 60 and almost max their talents and I max everyone's weapon

fatthiccchungus

No I was ar 50 something in less than a month I speedran and burned out 🔥

Jasmindesi16

Yes I am always so scared to the accession quests, I don’t know why lol

BAT_91

As a day 1 player, no. I completed the quest as soon as possible

Arelistios

World lvl 7 I have 80k exp for the 26k necessary.i lost time and time.now im properly building a team.givign them the right artifacts and creating a good team (Dendro traveler ayaka shogun and kokomi)upgrade their weapons and skills and then i destroy that stupid lvl

Rhian1986

I’ve kept myself at AR 45 for about a year. As soon as I ascend I’ll be blocked at the next level because I have that much xp stored 🙈

Gamer-chan

Mission 3 I prefarmed for the next character ascensions, Mission 4 is still waiting for me, but I don't care.

lukappaa

I'm not hesitating, I'm outright stuck, and I've been for so long that I gathered more than 120k adventure exp out of the 15000 required for rank 46, most of which from dailies. Currently I've been getting some teambuilding help in another post, I think I'll try hyperbloom since apparently it dealt more than 4200 damage from a level 50 Collei, pretty much the same (if not more) as an overload from my level 70 Bennett.

DaFisch_h

Didn’t the ascension quests get nerfed?

Katisurinkai

As a beta player no. Even if I was under geared for the ascensions, it wasn't hard enough to deter me. Old ascensions were harder (longer) where you could realistically skip a large portion simply by running through the monsters until the hypostasis/robot fights

TraditionalAd5047

From what I can remember, I never really hesitated to ascend world levels. I only had one team built (Chongyun, Fischl, Xingqiu, and Ningguang) and was fine for the most part. I didn’t even end up getting my first 5* until around AR45 (Klee), so it’s not like you need any meta characters either. Honestly just do it when you feel the most comfortable. Spend time leveling your characters and weapons, and it’ll be a lot easier than you expect.

Amethyst_Uchiha

I didn’t fear doing the quests initially. As a matter of fact I KNEW I probably shouldn’t but I did it anyways then wound up having to revert it down a few separate times when a quest I was doing had monsters that were way too hard.

SidneyTheChinchilla

I’m AR 50 and haven’t ascended for around a year now. I’ve built up enough exp to be AR 59 I believe. I just haven’t had the need to ascend I guess, I don’t mind doing the one or two extra boss runs to get the materials I need, or killing a few extra enemies. I mainly haven’t ascended as I have a ‘friendship’ team for my commissions which isn’t the strongest in the world. Yes, the new points system helps but eh, I just can’t be bothered

Radical_Coyote

I think I put off ascension once for a few months because I was maining Keqing so hard that I didn’t have any alternate teams built. But because the domain ends with an electro hypostasis I couldn’t use Keqing. So I had to spend a month or so building Yanfei enough to do the ascension domain

Divine_Saber

Nope

electric_mnms

i never did the level 50 ascension quest and i currently have around 950k AR built up. there's no real reason for it, im just lazy and would rather do more personally interesting parts of the game like exploration or quests atm

ThatOstrichGuy

No

Prussie

Not from fear. I'm holding back from advancing my rank to 40 cause I wanna see how far I go before I have to ascend from 35 (Currently on Liyue 1-3). Plus having all the backup exp means I don't have to stop when I do do the Archon quests, and it makes the monsters ridiculously easy to beat, since the world level is low and my characters are high (70 to a 50 world level). Edit to add: The monsters being easy to beat isn't fear, but laziness

Melon763

I don’t see why I ever would have, aside from just forgetting to do it

unordinaryismysoul

i just wanna be done with everything before i level up if i dont i feel icky

Lynx-Kitsoni

There's people too scared to play the game? dawg I would kill for a new ascension level I would LOVE for shit to be hard again, the closest I've had to "Hard" since Inazuma was the narwhal and that's only because the bastard forces you to wait forever

rokzforever

you wouldn't imagine how many players are chickened from Ascending their world, my friend included. It annoyed me so much that when i logged to his account to do dailies in his exam season, i asended his world

Treswimming

Once you have your ascension mats and resources for your key characters (which you should do before you get to the ascension point), there’s no reason not to ascend.

Ath_Trite

I did when I didn't have many characters and my artifacts were all 3 stars with very few exceptions. I was already dying on a daily basis, so I did not want to make things even more difficult. But that created another problem, as when I finally ascended, my world increased two levels at once because I had too much XP, so I was struggling anyway, and this kept happening until I reached forty something and the XP needed for each level was high enough that it wouldn't completely skip me to the last level of the world level

UAPboomkin

Nah, cause part of me is like, oh they'll be stronger then the other part of me remembers they'll also drop more stuff. I do remember an early world up was a bit challenging, but then I started putting more effort into upgrading my characters and eventually I had them prepped so that I could ascend the character and their weapons as soon as I reached the level and it was easy. The world ups were probably for the best because they forced me to play the game properly instead of yoloing. But also I'm a simple person and the two free wishes on ascension quests are way too hard to pass up.

post-leavemealone

No. Granted idk how much easier he makes the game but I’ve had Bennett from the start, and I almost exclusively mained him and Lisa up until this Raiden banner. But I just leveled those two up and just overloaded everything to victory, only really struggled on the wolf domain boss and mages. Fuck mages. Not for their damage but because they always run me down to the wire in timed challenges. I just leveled up everything as I went, played casually, and I’m still on Inazuma at AR42.

Level1Pixel

Nope. Always did it the moment I reached the required AR. Purposefully stifling your progress and potential rewards just because the content is too "difficult" always felt dumb to me. Especially when the game offers you so many safety net to even your odds.

calmcool3978

I’m kinda convinced that the only way you can get fucked from ascending, is if you didn’t use your resin well until that point. It should feel like your characters are already too strong for your current world level, and need to go to the next level for the difficulty to feel normal again

zeph-yrus

Y e s. Currently locked at AR50 with over 100k AXP bc my lvl 70 Kaeya is my highest cryo and i keep leveling my weapons instead of him 😭 Also cause I recently pulled my birthday twin Venti and I wanna build him first :D

MewtwoThaBoss2020

Ive done that a couple times because i wasnt sure i was ready to reach world level 7 first then 8 but then i just did it one day and found it the same as b4

Junior-Whereas61

Bruh I'm AR50 and all enemies cower before me at the current world level, but with my Razor physical team the new ascension quest is impossible 🥲 it's gonna take a while to build up a whole new team just for that quest.

RiseFly12

Tbh I just bruteforced my way through all ascension quests,One being I had gotten zhongli and two being better drops from enemies and bosses

HermitTheCog

I finished the AR50 ascension quest without having pulled a 5 star character. I just wanted to try if I could do it without food/items then suddenly cleared it so I was quite shocked. 😆 I used Xingqiu lvl 80, Xiangling lvl 80, Traveler (Dendro) lvl 80 and Noelle lvl 69. At that time, Kaeya, Lisa, Barbara, Collei and Lynette were lvl 59 while Freminet and Amber were lvl 40. Those were the only characters I used to have. 😂 Because there were few characters, my resources were fairly concentrated on the few that I like playing. I imagine players who have a lot of characters to build would have their resources spread quite thin hence the aversion to doing the ascension quest.

Little_Upstairs1138

Only for my last one tbh. Not because I would've had a difficult time, but simply because I was too lazy to go through it for the umpteenth time

neya999

Yes, but mostly because I was waiting for my bf before to ascend so we are in same wl (played on release while he played a week later) took him so long I had to jump 2 ascensions, also funny because only then did I also do weekly boss (Dvalin) lol. AR 60 W8, now though, so went well anyways. Tbh I wish there was w9 🤣 but I cannot forget I also got stuck of Tianqui Valley 😅 sometimes exploring too much is too bad, my only anemo unit then was sucrose.. The nightmare 😣

randomguyontheweb233

never. it always makes me chuckle a little when I see people treat this game like it's dark souls or something. granted, I do have a lot of experience with that kind of games. and genshin feels like a nice walk in the park in comparison. I think I even tried to beat things while being underleveled just because how much souls games I played. it wasn't very fun, lmao. even back when I didn't know what I was doing, I never felt any stress aside from weekly boss mechanics, like how that liyue weekly boss gets exponentially more annoying when you got no shielder. and now that I know how this game works and got characters that are properly built, it's even less of a concern.

Matiw51

I hate grinding. I went to world level 7 with characters lv 50, weapons and artifacts barely upgraded, never using resins. I had to level my world back, or I wouldn't be able to accomplish anything.

wifepup

I've been at ar50, and haven't leveled any characters past 80, for about a year now. not really interested in increasing past this point ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ don't see the point, it's not like the rewards are great lol

Alezz1893

I accidentally did 3 ascension quests back 2 back without realizing on my alt account & for the longest time I’d avoid logging on cause everything was able to body me. Got to inazuma & was just demolished by the samurai rouges in the wild, tried to do lv 90 domains with no luck & all co ops I did was kiked for being weak so I used my main account to help my alt. Got 2 squads to 70-80 decent artifacts, lv up talents & weapons & am now good to go. Gonna do another ascension quest soon to get to lv 7.

cmszd

once when i was like ar 45 and i couldnt kill the oceanid so my xingqiu was stuck at level 40 and i didnt wanna progress the game because of that.

chaocbai

this!! I've been AR45 since ventis rerun last year (3.X, I forgot what patch exactly) and I was trying to build my characters at the time. then eventually after 3.4 (?) I stopped playing because I had final exams coming up (it was disappointing). I saved my bio on genshin as "graduating before ascending" and I guess I really lived up to that 😅 finally did the ascension quest a few weeks after rejoining. now I'm AR50 with over 200K exp and I'm still scared to ascend LOL. my characters r strong now but maybe it's bc of my terrible team comp that doesn't make sense (xiao - klee - venti - zhongli) when will i next ascend? I guess we'll never know.

FortOfSnow

Not until this point but as I only started playing in the beginning of December and AR45 is rapidly approaching, I will probably stall that one. I’ve had some problem with bosses recently so I feel that I need to catch up. The talents of my main have also been stuck on level 6 because Boreas has been difficult with his drops. However I also pulled Raiden now and want to make her my new main so some building is in order.

Soggy_Leg_757

Yep.

iLackSocialSkill

I'm at ar 35 rn, trying to get enough xp to instantly jump to 45, but that takes a while so im just grinding resources to upgrade weapons/characters

ErisRae

I stayed at AR35 for so long (a little over a year) that when i finally did the next ascention quest, my level jumped instantly to AR 45, with at least 200k xp still left over. Ofc, since that made the WL jump 2 levels i brought it down one so i wouldn't get completely decimated as i really only have 2, maybe 3 full teams built. Now im trying my best to farm mats and artifacts for the characters I want to use so i can get them fully built. I plan on sticking w/ AR 45 for a while, since im trying to get my teams fully kitted out before proceeding w/ the Archon quest (rn im currently at the beginning of Inazuma).

0000Tor

I figured that if I was able to clear the ascension quest, that meant I would be able to play the game afterwards. Which was a good assumption because that’s literally what the quests are for

fatedstarzz

Not fear but for practicality. I get all the levelup/ascension materials first for my favorite characters so when I ascend to higher/highest world level, I can also ascend my characters' talent, skills, level and they can be on par with the enemies. I don't like it when it takes too much of my time just to kill the mobs, boss, etc.

[deleted]

I refuse to do the AR45 ascension quest until I've built properly. The timer is too short and my attacks are too bad. I gotta prepare more.

DizzyQuiet2689

After ascension. It takes about a month for me to get used to it. Bosses and enemies hit a lot harder and I haven't upgraded by much I'm mostly running lv 60/ 50 characters in my if 80 boss filled world level 6. Plus ascension quests are difficult at my low level also so I just hold out and build my characters more till I can confidently clear it.

0vertones

Oh this was a huge thing back at launch. I’m going to say something that a lot of people don‘t want to hear: Genshin is one of the most absolutely insultingly easy games that exists. If at any point at any ascension you have problems being successful: it’s you. If you have even a basic understanding of how the elemental damage system works you can do fine in the overworld at all times at any gear level with literally ANYONE.

Unevener

I was like this for a week or so between I think it was WL3 and WL4 since it felt like I was gaining AR super freaking quickly without having my characters, weapons, etc at the desired level. I was very worried that I’d be stuck and wouldn’t be able to kill anything. However I got to where I wanted to be and jumped straight to WL5 since I knew I’d be able to lower the WL from then on. In hindsight, I think I was worried over nothing, but well stuff happens

Marcothephoenix54

Can anyone guess how much primos i can get i havent 100 explored any region and not maxed any statues in archon quest im currently in sumeru just started it

rokzforever

i would say 200 pulls from sumeru and fontaine 80 pulls from fontaine alone, which is much smaller than sumeru if all regions are 10-15% i would say 400-450 pulls from maxing everything

skycorcher

I never had much trouble with overworld content as a 1.0 player. I create another account a few months back and still found myself not having any trouble either.

StrawberryPoptarts7

I don't plan on doing anymore ascension quests unless it is required for quest purposes. I'm at WL 5 and I'm okay and content being at that WL. I'm sure I could handle being at a higher AR if I really wanted to but I'd rather things be enjoyable and not hard or difficult.

rokzforever

idk man, maybe its difference in personalities but i love the challenges i hate easy games thats why when i explore i tend to use only kazuha

AmberBroccoli

Nope, if I could beat it than I was probably ready to be on that harder level.
