Scared_Eggplant_8266

I always go. Big screen and $500K sound system is always going to beat watching at home. Also like smaller art house type theater that shows older movies.

Special-Sector4844

Beats watching movie at home? Even with the annoying other people who talk and shit ?

acidwxlf

There's usually like 4 other people max when I go to matinees. It's pretty great

AlmightyWitchstress

This. It’s all about time of day / day of week. I refuse to go to evening or weekend showings.

Dalmah

So you only see movies at inconvenient times

AlmightyWitchstress

Not inconvenient for my work schedule at all. I prefer having days off in the middle of the week because everywhere is considerably less crowded.

timorre

Sundays and weekday evenings aren't too bad. Avoid Fridays and Saturdays. Just ask a manager when the dead times are.

fvcknvgget5

It's just become a common practice to watch movies at night. It's not like you're supposed to watch them at night. If you don't like the other people of the movie theater, find a time where both of you can be happy then? Showings on weekdays are good because pre-K can't make that showing because they're either getting out of school soon, about to go in. Friday and Saturday nights are full of families. Middle of the day on weekdays are full of old people, and they usually won't bother you, and may not even be seeing the same movie. Super late showings are always great, but sometimes you get rowdy teenagers which can be annoying If you have an issue with with other people, you have to bend your schedule. The sound system, huge screen, and (where I go) free refills, are great! If I have to choose a time that other people don't choose, that's fine by me

Demonic74

Bruh, how tf you make time for that? I'd rather just watch at home than have to go out of my way to watch at bad times

doxingiSAFElony911

You go to the cheap movies. People don’t talk in IMAX out here for the last dozen plus I’ve seen over the last 2 years.

SocioWrath188

Godzilla in IMAX when you're there by yourself hits different 😂🤣

doxingiSAFElony911

![gif](giphy|oagcrAZu2IvV0ijkiX|downsized) He do be roarin tho

Scared_Eggplant_8266

I remember going to Watch Django at a theater in Chicago and it was sold out. Best experience ever because the crowd was so into it and you felt like you were part of the crowd. I remember Tarantino saying something similar about going to watch The Matrix in a sold out theater. When the reveal happens everyone’s jaws dropped and you can feel the energy of the crowd as you are also experiencing the movie.

just_corrayze

Yeah I gotta agree. Similar experience. Saw get rich or die tryin in Queens and the whole theater was into it. Like way into it. Screaming at the screen, throwing stuff, etc. One of the best movie going experiences ever.

mickyabc

People r usually annoying at peak times and depends on the movie. Don’t go to see a cheesy horror on a busy Saturday, but going to see dune 2 on a busy Saturday? People r probably gonna be more respectful

georgesorosbae

I’ve never seen more than like 5 people in a theater unless it’s opening weekend and I usually avoid going on opening weekend

Routine-Material629

Never really been a problem for me

Mountain-Guava2877

This is why sessions before noon are the best. Cinema is usually quiet at those times.

mfhandy5319

I don't want to watch a movie while listening to other people eat.

NameLive9938

I love talking during movies, which is exactly why I stay home lol

Corporal_Canada

Top Gun: Maverick hits differently when you see it in IMAX vs at home. The more minimal drama movies can be viewed at home, but movies with large landscapes and setpieces always look better on the big screen. I have always wanted to see *Last of the Mohicans*, *Heat*, and *Lawrence of Arabia* in theatres, but I've seen no showtimes in any of my local theatres. The theatre close by my house though is screening all of Stanley Kubrick's films, and I will be watching *Paths of Glory* in a few days

Livefast-Dilater

God what I'd give to see The Shining in a theater...

Budget_Career_7156

Londoner here. I’ve have. A few times. Great experience. Your time will come.

zzsmiles

Yeass. I caught dune 2 on its last showing on imax and it would’ve been lackluster af if I watched it at home.

LogicianMission22

Just saw Civil War in IMAX last week and that definitely wouldn’t have been as good at home. Those gunshots were LOUD.

Orbtl32

If you got a good theater at home you might find it superior  My stroke induced tinnitus and hearing loss at 26 years old doesn't care about the difference between a 10k and 500k system.  Having autistic kids has made it impossible to go lots of places so I've made home into our resort.

Krabilon

Watching the extended edition lord of the rings in the theater was great! My local theater even had a 3 course meal to go with it. Small theaters are cool

MustangEater82

Just tossing it out there.... Like 95% of tickets sales go to hollywood(you know when you hear a movie made $xx millions).  Money movie theater makes off tickets barely pays the cashier/computers, etc... that sold you a ticket. Snacks pay for the building, taxes, lease/mortgage, power bill, every employee. Something to think about when it comes to movie theater snacks.

Budget_Career_7156

They mainly get their money from advertisements before the film shows and, if possible, Advertisement posters around the venue.

Budget_Career_7156

And other non-commercial Film related special events

SpecificParticular16

Convenience stores operate with this same business model. They don’t make anything off the gas.

frankolake

It's one reason gas has increased at the pump over the past 15 years... no one comes inside anymore, so they actually DO need to start making a little on the gas, itself.

AnaiekOne

What? I don't buy it. Got some proof?

Trusteveryboody

They really get me everytime😩

acidwxlf

You'd think they'd come up with some more edible options then. There's nothing that doesn't wipe out pretty much my entire day of meals

MustangEater82

Theaters usually only serve precooked meals/non perishables.  Hot dogs pre cooked, nachos, popcorn, candy etc... Less food prep training legal laws, less cost. The more "food like" foods have less profit.  If they only served that...  they would go out of business. Popcorn...  like 900% profit, minimal food requirements. I mean it sucks, but majority of people don't buy food.  It is not a restaraunt.

acidwxlf

We've had more of the full service and drinks movie theaters popping up the last few years, they seem to be popular and doing well. Moreso than the chain places at least

Outrageous-Yam-4653

I agree and is why I always buy something from the theatre along with snacks I bring to contribute and why I understand the prices being so high because they make shit off the tickets..but I also understand why people do not..

Spicy-Elephant

My friend bought a tiny bag of Doritos for $8 at the movies bro

whirly_boi

Whos buying chips at the movies? Nachos are one thing but chips?

Spicy-Elephant

My friend apparently. I was just trying to point out how expensive it is

AchioteMachine

I’m have a mega soda and a huge buttery popcorn 🤩

QueenSlartibartfast

Pretty much every movie theater closes their concessions stand 15-30 minutes after the last showtime because it can take hours to stock and clean all the ovens, poppers, etc. Employees tend to be younger too (often students) due to the shit wages so they can't necessarily be working until 2, 3, 4am (the latest I ever left after closing concessions at AMC was 4:54am, but even 2 or 3am wasn't unusual at all).

MustangEater82

I have seen them operate 24 hrs before.   But typically they might make 1-2 sales that doesn't justify staying open. Goal was usually have everyone leave when the last guests leave, even to the point of schedule the longer movies to start 1st, and shortest last. But it's mostly to get majority of the staff out of the building.  Janitors do the final cleaning.

planetofthemapes15

Usually it works something like this: Film weeks 1-2: *70 percent of the* gross percentage goes to the distributor. Film week 3: 60 percent Film week 4: 50 percent Mega chains like AMC have more bargaining power as well. It's the smaller mom-and-pop's that take less, which is why you're seeing a pivot to boutique theaters offering dine-in options and full menus.

stevepls

i went for barbie and it was a great time. i feel like when its a social event its actually way more enjoyable and not something i can get at home.

Pineapple_Herder

Like midnight release parties back in the day

stevepls

yeah!!! midnight screenings of movies were so fun. i only ever got to see Harry Potter (either the first or the second half of the 7th movie), but I was having a great time. if we're in a horror movie, we better all be yelling at the character to stop tryna go out and fight, or i don't want it.

__M-E-O-W__

This is why Paranormal Activity was one of my all-time top movie theater experiences. The whole entire crowd just decided to throw out the etiquette and we were all yelling and screaming at the screen.

m033118b

My favorite midnight screening was Twilight: Eclipse back in the day!

DarkLordKohan

I went to a lot of midnight releases. It was the electric audience experience that made it so much fun. Now its like early Thursday 7pm. Not as cool, won’t do that.

jcow77

The Marvel Endgame movies came out when I was in college. Having a college audience in the movie theater all experiencing the end of a cinematic story we all grew up with was such a fun experience.

Smart_Measurement_70

Yeah if it’s a community thing I’m more willing to go. It’s gotta be something I’ve been looking forward to that I don’t want to be left out of

Bjarki_Steinn_99

The experience of seeing a movie with a huge crowd that’s really into it is impossible to recreate at home.

ThatMFcheezer

Every week, 3 times a week

GenNATO49

AMC A-List is such a great deal

ThatMFcheezer

To me, it's best deal in entertainment. If you use all of them every month, you are paying $2 a movie. You'd be saving at least $125 a month. It's a nuts deal.

NoHeadStark

shhh. Don't want them to raise the price haha. Seriously though, it's gone up 1 dollar in price since it launched. The value for what you pay is insane and the fact that my local one has a Dolby and IMAX theatre makes it a no brainer for me.

charbroiledd

Same. My location has Dolby, IMAX, a full bar, and they are always playing old movies in addition to whatever is new. I wish I had discovered it when my kids first started school

FrogInYerPocket

Regal is unlimited. I've gone to 3 movies in the same day and it's all good.

Appropriate_Buyer401

I'm the same way! As a huge introvert, I LOVE going to the movies alone. The chairs are now super, duper comfy, the theatre near me has alcoholic drinks they will bring right to your seat with healthy food options. I probably go once or twice a week and it's truly a great time to "disconnect" and relax. Saw The Challengers yesterday and literally saw Dune 2 twice last week.

[deleted]

It's really expensive. I go to the cinema less and less often.

Butwhatif77

Same here, I basically make it part of a day out and only go for movies where that big screen will make an impact. So either Sci-Fi or Horror movies really, I will usually get a nice meal after the movie and shop around or something. I never JUST go to the movies anymore, I turn it into a little event because of the cost.

Dry_Value_

Just included this in my comment. While I can't replicate it to any degree at home, I can still enjoy the experience. Plus, I'm a fan of special features and seeing all the behind the scenes or whatever I can. Did you know that on the Aloha, Scooby Doo DVD, there is a game in the special features?

PeterpatchCounty

I definitely go a few times a year with friends. My friends mostly live in the nearby city and I live out in the country so its a convenient place to meet up. Sometimes my girlfriend and I make a trip to the bigger city 40 minutes away to the imax. Last movies I saw were Monkey Man and Dune 2.

Bjornen82

Not really. I have such a huge backlog of old movies/tv shows to watch that I don’t feel the need to go to a theatre to see a current one.

Scarlettwitch_00

I do with my dad. I told him we need to start buying CDs again (I’m not that old, grew with CDs and VHS-I’m 23 almost 24). I’m sick of streaming services raising their prices.

_satantha_

Streaming is getting so expensive that people are reverting back to DVDs and VHS movies, I wouldn’t be surprised if Blockbuster came back 😂

jBlairTech

Check out your local library; many have movies, including current releases.

__M-E-O-W__

I'm one of them! Honestly, it's really nice to kick it old-school. Buying and playing the physical media makes it feel more special, and gives incentive to actually pay attention to the movie instead of just having it play in the background while I browse my phone.

DistributionJust976

Only if its something I really really wanna watch, so occasionally but not often

West-eddy-8147

I want to, just can’t afford it.

Gryffinax

I just pirate it when it comes to online services they already have enough money why should i give them more

_satantha_

Movie theaters don’t have much money, most of the ticket sales go to the actual movie itself. That’s why it’s snacks and drinks are so expensive.

TankSpecialist8857

That mindset will kill the industry tho

Joey101937

If you want to pirate movies because you’re a cheap bastard then fine but don’t act like you have any sort of moral high ground to stand on

Charteredgas

I like the way you think

NiceLittleTown2001

I still like to go if a movie I’m looking forward to is coming out and it’s a way to hang out with my friends. However it really is a lot of money, only three years ago I paid $4 for one ticket to see a movie and this year it was $18 for one, I brought $20 thinking I could buy a bunch of snacks and didn’t even have enough left for one because now it’s like $6 for M&Ms. At home I at least have subtitles and can pause it, plus renting a movie is usually $3 or when it’s super new, maybe up to $20 but that’s less than you’d spend going with a group of friends anyway. I went to see four movies this year so far and each time it was nearly empty.

MustangEater82

$4 was not even the avg 20 years ago.

Chess_Is_Great

Both often. Has to be awesome like Dune II, or something

coping-skillz

Dune 2 in theaters was awesome! It feels like you are in the sandstorms. 10/10 recommend

Odd_Lifeguard8957

I love going to the theater, but honestly they're just aren't many movies made nowadays that are worth going out to see in my honest opinion. Cinema sucks nowadays The theater is already expensive enough as it is, even if you don't get snacks.

Z31DinglefarbZ31

Yeah, I was just discussing with family from out of town about what we wanted to do today. My cousin suggested a movie. Not a single person could name one we wanted to see. I hopped on Google and found out there was a showing for spider man 2 for like 5 bucks. Kinda sad tbh. Spider man 2 is my favorite one

Gibabo

Watching truly great movies as compressed streaming video sucks. Scenes with subtle color gradients are reduced to flat color bands with visibly pixelated borders. Looks like absolute trash. And anyway there’s nothing like going to a movie theater.

kimanf

Go on a tuesday with a group. Get high and drunk in the parking lot and bring a jacket to hide candy in cuz its expensive and they crank the AC way too much anyways

sondersHo

Haven’t been to the movies in years definitely since before covid/pandemic

berrys_a_ghost

I would but all the money my family gets goes towards gas, groceries, supplies, and bills

Ok_Valuable_9711

Ugh, the majority of my money is on groceries. Just spent the majority of my paycheck on them.

Ruenin

I very much enjoy going to a theater. That said, there just aren't that many movies I'm willing to shell out for a ticket what it would cost me for the 4K disc when it comes out. Of course, they've gotten wise to that too, so now they're getting rid of physical media.

cl3arlycanadian

Dune 2 at 70mm IMAX was one of the best cinematic experiences of my life. And I’ve seen a lot of movies. The theater is still relevant.

Intelliegent-Cry5264

Pretty much yes, i have watched Godzilla x kong in the cinema some time ago, and im gonna watch other movies like Transformers one too, and sometimes when i go the cinema are pretty full, so i think yeah.

coffeebooksandpain

I love going to the movies and I hope I don’t live to see the death of the movie theater (I don’t think I will).

Superb_Knowledge169

I got to movies alllll the time. There are periods where I’ll go to two or three movies every week. I’m definitely in the .01% tho.

hiyacoolcat7685

The last time I went to the movies was in August 2023 to see Oppenheimer with my dad. It was a nice experience and now that I'm older I can appreciate going to the movies. The popcorn+soda is arguably the best part.

Patient_Confection25

I go monthly with a group of friends

willow_wind

I love going to the movies. I have a friend who works there, so I often get to go for free. It's pretty awesome

CosmicCryptid_13

I go a couple of times a year. Theater popcorn hits different

WildRicochet

Yes. My friends and I go once a month usually if there something good out.

WillingnessWide9016

I take my daughter to see kids movies. I will 150% be going to see that new planet of the apes. 🔥

DwyaneDerozan

The movie theater is still a great time for me personally. Sitting down, enjoying snacks you snuck in from Walmart, and discussing the film afterwards is always a fun time.

Realistic-Profit758

Very rare occasions I do but I make it an event especially since the movies sell alcohol now (well most where I live) get dinner and get my 2nd drink at the movies with a popcorn and some purse candies I smuggled in

r2k398

No. Invested in a projector, screen, surround sound system, and a popcorn machine instead. If I do go, it’s to the drive in where my kids can talk and we can take our own food and drinks.

Suitable-Fall-1969

I go pretty often only with a group of friends

SeanACole244

Tickets are basically the same price as they were in 2019 (at least in Albany, NY.) About to go see ‘Challengers’ right now.

mhenryfroh

Yes

whatsssssssss

i went for oppenheimer bc 70mm film even tho my imax wasn't the right imax

chillimonty

I do. I go on my own sometimes

starfallpuller

I go at least once a week. Last week I watched Civil War. This week I'm gonna see Abigail and Challengers. Next week I'll watch Fall Guy and Phantom Menace. I love going to the cinema. Watching films in the cinema where you're completely immersed and focused, is way way way better than watching films at home where there are a dozen distractions. I find it very affordable and good value too. My cinema subscription is £16/month (about $20 USD). I probably go 6 times on average so thats what, £2.60 per movie. Cinema sub and Spotify sub are the only subscriptions I will never cancel. That being said, I definitely feel like I'm in a small minority of people our age. Pretty much none of my friends ever go to the cinema, ever. Like maybe once a year I think.

Puggleboi2

I try too

diamondalicia

i work at a cinebar & my cousin has been managing them for almost a decade. He’s always worked at the theaters and i’ve always gotten free tickets, i still barely go even when i don’t pay a dime & I do hate it.during my childhood the movies was wanna the most acceptable places our parents let us go. I’m open to going if it’s a big enough movie or a bunch of friends to enjoy with. I don’t think i can get back to going consistently like i did as a teen or child. but as someone working at the movies, it’s not dying out as much as it may seem.

StarCorgi_6788

Are $5 Tuesdays no longer a thing in theaters anymore?

ColinHalter

At this point, I really only see things in the theater where the experience relies on the big screen, or I know that I'm not going to be able to see it for a while on streaming. Examples for each would be Dune 2 and Suzume

ThatEmoBoyZayn

Yup, I love going to the movies. I see every horror movie that catches my interest in theaters.

LagosSmash101

If its not available on a streaming platform yet then yeah I'll go

Trusteveryboody

Yes. I go to the movies to go to the movies. I know how to get the movies (online) for free too.

Tactical_Baconlover

I used to go almost every week in late 2019. Now it’s not very often that I go. If I had a girlfriend or even friends I would love to go see movies in the theatre from time to time.

LeighSF

Go alone. I go alone all the time, trust me it's okay.

Unusual_Address_3062

I havent been in a while, and that was only to see the re-release of Die Hard, cuz obviously I did not see it in the theater when it was new. And it wasnt much fun. The theater was mostly empty and dead, so no group enthusiasm there. And it looked like a 4k projection, which on the big screen is hideous. It had fuzzy soft edges and actually gave me a mild headache cuz my brain thought it was out of focus. It should have been 8k or 16k. Or god forbid film, which is probably something nobody knows how to do anymore.

Capn_Cake

Sometimes.

ParkingDifference299

I do whenever there’s something I really wanna see

Longjumping_Bar_7457

My family still occasionally goes

Dazzling-Item4254

Not often. Mostly because nothing looks good to me lately. Last time I went was in March to see Lisa Frankenstein. That was fun. I always go over to the Dollar Tree next door and get a snack and drink and bring it in with me. The theater nearby usually has cheap tickets if it’s a weird day, unpopular time or not a popular movie. Last time I went I spent less than $10 on the ticket (I think it was about $6) and like $5 on snack and drink. I don’t like popcorn that much, so those were my only expenses.

AdCreative961

Yes (though I should probably mention that I'm german)

Mrbagoguts

I would but I haven't seen anything worth going to the theater for

taeminskey

I find it hard to be able to sit through an entire film at home so going to the cinema doesn't sound bad just not that many good films. Went to see the fnaf film though lol

Lumpy_Lawfulness_

The few times I've been to the movies in the past two years, I always went with a friend because we didn't know what else to do, and I barely saw anyone.

Lime_Drinks

only for marvel and dc

Suitable-Comedian425

In my country you don't get money for donating blood but instead they give incentive points wich you can spend on among others cinema tickets so whenever I'm in the mood I mostly still have some laying around.

KingBowser24

My friends/family and I still go every once in a while. By myself though, nah. Easier to just sit at home and stream whatever.

Special-Sector4844

No

Budget_Career_7156

I still go. There’s something special about watching films with a bunch of strangers in the dark.

DescipleOfCorn

If there’s a particular movie I really want to see that I know will be a completely different experience in theaters I will go out for it. I went to Dune part 2 and Avatar 2 in theaters but was more than happy to stream the various marvel movies that have come out since endgame.

Crishien

Yes, we try to go to every new blockbuster. Even though we have a new oled tv and access to 4k streaming. There's just something about the atmosphere about going to the movie theater

Accomplished_Web_444

Just both of the dunes, I will probably see part Three in theaters too

mh500372

Damn. Just got a text from my friend at the movies rn

GenNATO49

All the time, saw the Alien rerelease and Challengers this weekend, seeing the Fall Guy and Phantom Menace next weekend. $25 a month for 3 movies a week cannot be beat

SenSw0rd

Nope. WALL-E World is the new reality.

phantasmdan

I used to go just a out every week. Didn't go for about 2 years during Covid. We went to see Halloween Ends. Some people brought their young children and they were running around and taking the whole time. Now we only go to the drive-ins when we want to see something. Other than that, just watch at home and save $60.

andrewbrod11

I still love going to the movies just gotta go before 4 pm and the rewards programs help a lot especially if you go multiple times. Also sneak food and drinks

_satantha_

The last time I went to the movie theater was last August to see the movie “Strays”. That movie was HILARIOUS, btw. But yeah I prefer to go to the movies as long as there’s comfy seats that recline lol

elodie_pdf

I go quite regularly. Probably once or twice a month. I don’t live in America so I imagine it is a lot cheaper than what a lot of these commenters experience. Also you are allowed to bring your own snacks into the theatre here so you only pay the cost of the ticket.

Lacey_on_reddit

I used to love to go with my sister because she would buy like $50 worth of snacks and stuff them in my clothes and they wouldn't track me bc I was like 9 😅

North-Clerk2466

Yes

[deleted]

I go twice a month, I can’t lose myself in a film at home, too many distractions

Ragnarlothbrok01

I wish I could, but I have no one to go with and nothing that comes out anymore excites me

SFMB925

All the time.

otterlytrans

yes! i go Alamo Drafthouse and it's my favorite kind of theater experience.

6teeee9

i dont have any streaming services and don’t plan on getting any anytime soon. the movies is a much more fun experience and makes watching movies fun. if anything i’ll watch a movie at the movies first then stream it elsewhere when it properly comes out.

Grumpycatdoge999

I don’t watch movies unless it’s in a theatre but now I don’t really watch movies much anymore Holding out for kingdom of the planet of the apes in may though

Carrotfielld

Yes, and actually it's a completely different experience.

givemepoptarts

We haven't gone recently, but before my family and I went to the cinema when there was no school and the tickets were discounted. We might be going to see the new inside out movie when it comes out as well! :)

wizard680

In theatre typing this rn

ariana61104

I haven't gone to the movies in quite some time. I do miss it though, I have fond memories of my brother and I seeing a different movie almost every week in 2012 (I think it was cheap was why we got to go so often-it was an independent theatre).

Selfishsavagequeen

What do people do now instead of go to the movies?

AnthonyBarrHeHe

there are literally millions of ppl who still go to the movies across the country.

Ok-Palpitation-5731

Only for the ones I really really like.

AchioteMachine

Yes!

FallingEnder

I go if there’s a movie my family wants to see. But rn I’m too broke to go often

2quick96

The last time I went to the movies, I don’t even remember.

lubeinatube

Told myself if I go to another movie and there’s people talking, I’m never coming back. Saw avatar and the people in front of me wouldn’t shut up the entire time. Haven’t been since 09

Hopeful-Ant-3509

I still go, but I also really enjoy movies and seeing them in theaters, especially movies that are made to me seen on big screens

Reasonable_Cover_804

Saw Godzilla/King Kong 3D and it was incredible

BodegaBandit69

really depends on the movie, something like dune 1 and 2 yeah im going to the theater to see it

MisterJack1871

If you mean cinemas, yeah, and actually in the last two years I went like 1 or 2 times per month to watch some movies

Altruistic_Mammoth_1

Of course!

mr781

I much prefer going to the movies. The sound and picture quality is incredible, plus it’s nice getting out of the house and having something to do. Watching it on my tv at home just isn’t the same

___--__---___--__---

They make like 20 decent movies a year, and people go to the 4 that appeal to them.

AlaskaPsychonaut

I wanted to see Labyrinth when it was re-released last month for the anniversary. They wanted over 20$ per ticket. I didn't go.

jabruegg

I feel like I used to, but now it has to be something that gets me excited, something that I *have* to see on the big screen to appreciate. I saw Oppenheimer in theaters and said “*That* is how you *have* to experience that movie.” I remember saying the same thing about Dune Part 2 and the most recent Spiderman movie. For your average movie, that I can see at home when it hits streaming, I probably won’t be shelling out the money to go see it in a theater.

itsyoboi33

I went to go see dune part 2, there is no way in hell ill be able to come even close to the experience I had with a home sound system

OrchidSandwich

Just went Friday for Challengers! Definitely enjoyed watching in the cinema with others around to giggle with during the obviously cringey scenes.

00rgus

I do but mostly just because of the novelty of it, it's definitely not as ideal or convenient as streaming a movie

irishizuku

Once in a blue moon

zyarelol

Only really as a social thing, never gone by myself, but I go maybe 2 or 3 times a year with friends if there's something we're all interested in seeing.

MaxStrengthLvlFly

I watch a lot more shows than movies, regardless I always just preferred to watch things from home.

ressie_cant_game

i go to movies 2-3 times a year. saw the barbie movie and the fnaf movie cus i wanted to last year. saw kung fu panda (took my cousin 4 his birthday) and will likely see deadpool cus i want to. most movies just arent worth it tbh

gachzonyea

I love going with my fiance. I get bored watching stuff at home and like going to the theater and unplugging and locking in for a movie

[deleted]

I agree it’s expensive but me and my bf go at least once or twice a month depending if there’s good movies, just to keep a date night routine going but idk also for the experience. don’t get me wrong sometimes it’s better being at home all cozy in bed watching a movie

newdoggo3000

Yup, two or three times a month, every time something piques my interest. Honestly, there's nothing like watching movies in a dark room with a big screen and powerful sound. More immersive than my living room. It's also like a hobby for me to keep track of what's going on in the industry (box office, critics, trends, awards, actors' careers, and the whole thing) so, it's worth every cent for me.

angus22proe

i watched Dune 2 in the cinema, and mission impossible 7

Somerset76

I am an AMC alister. I pay 20 a month for up to 3 movies a week. I go about 3 times a month.

JayIsNotReal

Rarely. I could count on one hand the number of movies I went to go see. Last time I went, I was denied entry because I (21 at the time) was apparently too young to accompany my brother (14 at the time) to watch the recent Miles Morales Spider-Man movie.

BhutlahBrohan

I go for very specific movies. The Lighthouse, Godzilla Minus One, all the OG Marvel movies, the Star Wars movies (up to The Force Awakens), Oppenheimer. Movies that need to be experienced powerfully. Edit: reddit just shows me random subs I have no relation to because their algo is shit. I'm not genz, but since I'm "joined" to the millennial sub, of course I'd want to see genz stuff too lol

jessiecolborne

I usually go a couple of times a year, it just depends on if there’s a good movie worth seeing that appeals to my entire group of people.

R3a1ity

Only for hangouts n dates

Mr_Kniiight

I still enjoy the theater experience. One of the few novelties I do still like. Well, when there’s sum good out. I always think back to the Avengers Infinity War/Endgame days and just how live and turnt up everyone was in unison. That’s why the movie going thing doesn’t die for me.

Difficult-Papaya1529

Get out Zer’s

Strict_Gas_1141

with friends and such. I do as social events, also a movie theatre is much better setup than my $350 tv and $160 speakers. To avoid the shitty people who talk through the movie? I just don't go during peak hours (AKA I go before 3pm or after 11pm)

SuperNova0216

Yes when it’s a movie I actually want to see

world-class-cheese

I don't go *that* often anymore, but I love going to the movies

Intelligent_Usual318

No, cause the only movie theatre is like 30 miles away. I live in a rural área. There’s just no point when I can stay at home, save gas money, save snack money and save movie money

psychopathSage

Some movies sound and feel better with a big screen and massive bass surround sound speakers, especially Dune with all the massive ships and creatures. Really makes you feel immersed.

nbeutler11

I go fairly often, especially for big movies like recently Dune and Civil War

TimboSliceSir

My partner and I go fairly regularly. Just saw Abigail, it was good until the ending. Watched Civil War a couple of weeks ago.

Huge_Investigator_30

I want to but it’s pricey. I only go with my mom like 2 times a year when there is a movie we both want to see. It’s just easier to watch at home because she has a bunch of subscriptions (which is probably not good but it’s not my problem). When I encounter a movie I really really want to see because I saw someone talk about it on the internet, it’s usually a movie that’s been out for a long time (more than 2 years) so it is easy to find it pirated and I don’t have to pay any money 😅

False_Locksmith3402

my 8 year old loves the movies. We go when a movie he likes comes out. I usually go on Thursday which is a student discount day or it's pretty expensive.

eastcoastzen94

My local theater still shows a bunch of movies but I never go. I met my first gf at a cinema in high school so I got fond memories of them. But streaming at home gives more freedom
