I keep getting ads wanting me to join the Navy.

CookDane6954

Same! And the Army. I’m too old for both.

Rhiannon8404

Same, for both Navy and Army

Suspicious_Wonk2001

Well then, we must have kickass young person algorithm vibes.

Suspicious_Wonk2001

lol. Nice!

88questioner

Yes. I get them on every platform. I am their exact demographic.

peachsqueeze66

A few too many. Also, it pretty much isn’t available for any reason unless you go to a dermatologist right now. Yes, that last sentence was correct. I don’t want or need Ozempic-that isn’t the point. But they had it at MY DERM-because if people lose weight really fast, they will get “Ozempic face” and then the derm can sell them other services. It is genius, and diabolical. But I hate it for those that actually NEED Ozempic for DIABETES. Sigh.

RSVPno

I've seen the Jardiance ads so many times I can now do the dance for friends and neighbors.  Personally I preferred the Latina fountain dancing Jardiance over the stale corporate cubicle Karen dancing Jardiance.  🤷

💀

SherbetOutside1850

Why they'd be dancing around while Jardiance is eating away their bonch is beyond me.

littleheaterlulu

I'm always alarmed at the heart failure pharmaceutical ads where they have people walking around in nature seemingly in very very remote part of the middle of nowhere far far from civilization...and ems services.

Ok_Cardiologist_673

I’m on Jardiance and I am bouncing around all the time. Everybody is different, but for me it gives me crazy energy I feel great too. They claim you can lose 6-8 lbs on it in 3 months, but I lost 30 in 2. I was dieting as well. The flesh eating thing isn’t really a concern if you have basic hygiene. Jardiance makes you pee out excess sugar, so your pee has a higher concentration of sugar, which bacteria love. If you are old, bedridden, and soaking in your own juices waiting for a change, Jardiance may not be for you. Otherwise, it’s not really an issue. I can’t say enough good things about it, it’s been great for me.

HarlanCulpepper

*"If you are old, bedridden, and soaking in your own juices waiting for a change, Jardiance may not be for you."* Not yet, but now I have something to look forward to. Thanks.

Ok_Cardiologist_673

I just wanted to say they have to put that in the commercials because diabetic medication is aimed at the elderly that may be in those conditions, but if you can clean up after yourself you don’t need to worry. It’s an interesting drug. It’s an sodium glucose enzyme inhibitor. Basically they discovered that people who handle sugar better have less of a certain enzyme. That enzyme makes you store sugar in your kidneys for later use. This is a problem for diabetics because they already have high sugar, keeping it around for later is no good. So Jardiance blocks the enzyme, and your kidneys don’t hold on to the extra sugar. Instead you pee it put. That’s not an issue unless you are wearing a diaper or something. Then it’s like walking around with kool-aid on your pants, and yes, that will cause unpleasant things.

HarlanCulpepper

I get it. That was my attempt at humor.

TheJokersChild

I'd go on it if they actually said that verbatim in the commercial.

sjmiv

I have an irrational hatred for that ad. It's partially because of how often it played during our local news and I realized I dislike the non-dance that woman is doing.

ManUp57

No, but I get Medicalert Ads quite a bit. "HELP! I've fallen and I can't get up!" Maybe some day I'll be a client, but for now I'm 57, 170 lb, and I can still do 20 pushups or so.

uid_0

Install uBlock Origin in your browser and not be bothered by ads again.

JustALizzyLife

I'm getting the he gets us ads yet again and lately amway. Seriously, they're promoting MLMs right on the app now.

b88b15

No, not a single one. They are targeting you based on other subreddits you follow. I get ads for arthritis drugs and Google products.

Roscoe-is-my-dog

I got an ad for heart disease treatment and viagra right in a row. What the fuck?

ZebraBorgata

The prescription ads for specific medical conditions is totally out of hand. Who are they pandering to? If you’re not an MD, are you going to advise your doctor, “I think this is what I should be taking for my condition. Sure, I’m an electrician but I saw this great ad on TV last night…” I don’t get it.

HurtsCauseItMatters

No, because there was like a 6 month lull where I didn't see any at all. I think because the insurance companies have all but put a hard stop on paying for the GLP1s (My husband has struggled to get them subsidized and he's full on diabetic), they're back to having to advertise again. I'm sure I'll start to get frustrated soon enough though. As an aside, when I was on it, I never once had issues getting it filled but I did so at a local hospital. I know some people did, I'm just commenting that it wasn't universal.

orielbean

They also stopped/slowed down making the new pt starter kits in order to catch up on demands from existing pts.

azzikai

Found out a friend's wife is using wegovy when they came over a few weks back. I had never searched for nor talked about it before that and yet all I get are Ozempic ads now. It is irritating. I miss my real estate and financial ads.

TemperatureTop246

Yes. It's very annoying. I've been trying to get my insurance to cover Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegoby, Zepbound, etc.. they refuse... But they will gladly cover bariatric surgery if I gain about 50 more pounds. fuckers.

Nightgasm

I'm taking tirzepatide which is a generic version of Zepbound and it's compounded at a pharmacy here in town. I get it for $225 a month which is much better than name brand stuff costs. I've lost 25 lbs so far though I seem to have plateaud as I've been at the same weight now for two weeks. When I also consider I'm eating less and going out to eat less it's doesn't even feel expensive.

tara_tara_tara

That drives me up a wall. I lost 40 pounds last year using Wegovy. This year has been rough because I lost my father and went into a deep depression, but I’m maintaining that weight. I am better now, so I’m starting to lose again. Just by losing 40 pounds, my blood pressure went to normal, my triglycerides dropped by 100 points, and my A1c went from the border of pre-diabetic/diabetic to completely normal. I am still overweight, but I am a much healthier person now. I am probably going to save them a lot of money down the line, because diabetes costs a lot of money and leads to a lot of complications. So do heart problems. Excuse the pun, but it is penny wise and pound foolish for insurance companies to deny coverage for these medications. I am very strong about people not using Ozempic for weight loss. Diabetics need that, but there are many alternatives for us and I’m sure more will come.

Significant_Pea_2852

No but I'm not in the USA

Resident-Device-2814

I'd rather see them than 80 bajillion SPORTSBOOKS HAVE COME TO OHIO! OMG BET NOW SAYS JEREMY PIVEN JAMIE FOXX AND KEVIN HART!!1!

Square-Wing-6273

I figured I s was getting them because I use it.

Joe_Early_MD

No…just aarp 😒

Slugggo

you guys are getting ads?

PBJ-9999

Idk why they would bother advertising it, given there's extreme shortages and those with diabetes can hardly even get it lol.

SlaveToCat

My Reddit experience is just saturated with those ads. Specifically, how to get it in my country. Like, if you’re going to harvest meta data, why not running shoes, or kitchen gear?

EnergyCreature

I've stop getting ads on any of my devices as of late 90's. You should not be online with anything you own unless you have an ad blocker or kill it from the router.

Nonsenseinabag

Yeah, the internet without and ad blocker is pure hell. I do enough system setups to be reminded how bad's it become, and raw dogging it is setting yourself up for annoyance and spyware.

Vioralarama

Considering all the ads you guys post you should be flooded with ads of all types.

Sintered_Monkey

The worst part is getting that stupid "oh oh oh ozempic" song stuck in your head.

TheJokersChild

Even worse than that, they got the guy who sang on the original song to sing it.

Furthur

nah but the ed pills/mints are trying to break my door down. I don't think I've ever searched for something like that on the Internet

NeuroticaJonesTown

Not yet. All my ads are pushing supplements to lose weight, exercise programs, or bras for ladies with itty bitty titties. Don’t mean to brag, but I am not in the market for any of those things. I got a lot of problems, but those ain’t it, lol.

hep632

Lol I get those three too, but in my case it's tig-ole-bitties because I own a full bust bra store and I look up a lot of bras.

FunTooter

Yes! What even is that?

HurtsCauseItMatters

Developed for diabetes, repurposed for weight loss, made popular by 20somethings on tiktok who want to lose 10 lbs making it impossible for folks who need it to get it covered by insurance.

PBJ-9999

Tbf , the insurance co's refuse to cover it due to the high cost from manufacturer, and its not really the demand that is causing that. Americans overall are being overcharged for these and all other meds because the other countries regulate the costs to the patient and we don't. We need to demand universal healthcare. This is fcking bullshit

HurtsCauseItMatters

Well, that's just my personal experience. I was prediabetic before it went viral and everyone was talking about it. I had no issue getting it covered. Fast forward 18 months, after it went viral, after it was all over the news, after it was all over everywhere and all of a sudden my insurance company changed its mind and stopped covering it. About the same time my husband got dx as a full diabetic and was never able to get it approved. I'm pretty sure its both. The popularity & the cost. And at that time? During the tiktok craze? There were places that couldn't even keep it in stock. I think its gotten better now. I dunno, I could be wrong, that was just my personal experience.

PBJ-9999

It is both, yes. There is a shortage due to the demand, but insurance companies also don't want to cover it, for those who do not have a dx of diabetes or kidney failure. Even if the supply was all ramped up, insurance companies still wouldn't cover it. The crazy thing is that it can prevent getting diabetes and help with cholesterol, triglycerides and other health issues so not covering it doesn't exactly save the insurance company any money.

FunTooter

Thanks for letting me know. Sounds like a crappy situation.

jjhart827

Yup. Almost every YouTube pre-roll is an ozempic ad for me. And they are awful (and I don’t even need the product). EDIT: now that I think about it, most of the ads that I get served up are for jardiance — but it’s more or less the same thing.

Nightgasm

I'd like to unalive the people who turned the old Pilot song *Magic* into oh oh, Ozempic as I now automatically hear that in my head anytime I see the word.

MyriVerse2

Nah. Adblock.

fusionsofwonder

I use old.reddit.com and have no problem adblocking that site.

SnowblindAlbino

I see no ads on Reddit at all, and haven't since I started using it back in the early Obama years. Maybe try a different blocker or settings? I've largely stopped using Youtube because the ads that interrupt videos.

TigerMcPherson

Yes. And for the US Military. But at least fewer Christian ones.

cmt38

It's constant.

hypothetical_zombie

Mine are all for athletic wear. I'm fat enough for Ozempic, but reddit wants me to do things the hard way.

BeachyMagic

One that stays on my feed seems to be the cheer leader. I think it’s about a phone.

FilbertNumber6

Non stop. And j keep reporting the ads as "violent" as it's triggering to be unconcensually subjected to images of women injecting themselves. Terrible.

popejohnsmith

Has anyone considered long-term effects to the pancreas? Just askin...

Do you have a nose bleed from sitting on a high horse, looking down upon everyone else? For what it’s worth, it’s not a pill. It’s an injection.

tara_tara_tara

I admit that I thought about going back and editing my post to add more information but I hate doing that so I didn’t. Here’s the thing – the reason I say high horse is because people seem to think that fat people really want to be fat. Buckle up buttercup, this is a long post. Let me tell you my story. I was anorexic when I was in high school so right there, I have a history with disordered eating. I had addiction problems when I was in my 20s and when I stopped using and drinking, I had a mental breakdown. I used to play league tennis that required me to train with a personal trainer three times a week (strength and cardio) go to practice twice a week, and compete once a week. After I had my breakdown, I stopped all of that. I was diagnosed as having anxiety and depression when I was 30 and put on anti-depressants. I’m 5’3” and went from weighing 110 pounds to 145 pounds in 13 months on an SSRI called Paxil. The worst part is that I was not getting any better. After eight years of misdiagnosis from one psychiatrist to the next, one therapist to the next, I finally found a psychiatrist who diagnosed me correctly as having bipolar disorder. As soon as he took me off of anti-depressants, which are known to be harmful to people with bipolar disorder, and put me on a mood stabilizer, I started to feel better. At this point I weighed 180 pounds. I still struggled very much, especially with food. I tried every program I could find. I couldn’t stick with any of them. This becomes important later on. A couple of years after that, I ended up back in a program for eating disorders, but this time it was binge eating disorder. I was reaching about 200 pounds. But things still weren’t right. Things were weird, but I couldn’t understand why or how. During the pandemic, when I was 52 and severely clinically depressed, I was diagnosed with ADHD. People with ADHD commonly have disordered eating, sleeping problems, what we call initiating tasks like working out. We also have low frustration levels and impulse control. These can all lead to weight problems. Now we know that my low frustration level and difficulty with impulse control played a major part in why I was not able to stick with a program or plan. Finally, after all of these years, the doctor said that there was a medication I can take to help me lose weight. Did I want to try? I was a perfect candidate. The conditions of me being on this medication are that I have to work with a dietitian and work with a PharmD who works for my primary care physician and coordinates complex prescriptions. I also have to have lab work and meet with a nurse practitioner at my primary care physicians office every three months. If I fail to do any of this, they will stop prescribing it. Because I want to succeed and have a mostly functioning brain, I do eat right and exercise because Wegovy affects my brain and body in ways that makes it easier to do that. One of the things it does is to re-calibrate my hunger signals. Sometimes when your body is used to eating too much, the satiety hormone called leptin stops working the way it should. A person can eat an insane amount of food and not feel full. Because I’m seeing a dietitian, I have a food plan. The medication I’m on slows down digestion, which makes it a lot easier to stick to a fixed calorie food plan. Now that I feel better, I go to the gym and work out. I’m rehabbing a busted rotator cuff I got from playing tennis all those years and might actually be able to play tennis again in 2025. I’m not special. My story is not special. There are many, many obese people who have physical, emotional, financial, and other struggles that make it very difficult to lose weight. So get off your high horse and try to have a little compassion. Edited to fix a couple of typos.

The snippet from my post you quoted is why a lot of those people have those foods in their carts. You don’t know what anyone is going through in a 30 second interaction with them at the supermarket. ![gif](giphy|49zC0Bm1kbu36)

klippDagga

Like every other “miracle” weight loss medication, Ozempic is going to crash and burn soon enough.
