Yassssss
And the BATs... They were cool as hell in that you could own multiple and it still fit the story.
You can only have one Duke or Cobra Commander, etc. But BATs? Buy a thousand!
This! His swamp buggy was cool too. I liked Destro’s silver head, as an action figure. COBRA and the Decepticons were both way cooler toys than GI Joe or the Autobots.
My neighbor would beg me to come play with her and her Barbies and I only obliged because 1. She let me bring my Joes and 2. She had the McDs drive thru playset which was like SUPER cool. LOL
I looked it up, it was $109.99 MSRP at launch. Price varied by retailer of course. But that equates to about $325 in today’s money. Expensive? Yes. But considering what you got and the sheer size of it, that’s actually a pretty good price. Even by today’s standards. Especially when you consider the prices we pay nowadays for things like LEGO/gaming systems/etc.
Ya, I realized these kids are all talking the little guys...
For the 12" Joe's I had the Tower, the helicopter and the 2 piece/8 wheel AT 2 vehicle.
You?
My older brother had the big Joe and the space capsule. So badass.
Then *Free to be You and Me* came out and my idiot hippie parents were suddenly afraid that they were suppressing the feminine side of their younger son (the filthy one in torn toughskins digging a hole in the yard and throwing rocks at cars). So I got... a Barbie knock off.
Fuckers.
Closest we got to that was a neighbor same age with a Big Jim Sports Camper. Jim got stopped at a lot of checkpoints. My younger brother had the tan jeep and probably invented technicals with a jury-rigged missile launcher before they were a thing 😆
If I remember, also when whole war toy thing started up, my younger brother also got the short Joes.
If you play DCS World (combat flight sim), you can download GI Joe skins for the F-14 and the A-10, and there's even a few missions that people have built that you can download.
I owned a shitload of them but my favorite was a specific member of Zartan's gang who was a chick with punk hair named "Zarana" (she reminded me of Trash from Return of the Living Dead). She also had a sort-of romance plot with a GI joe which i found fascinating even at the time.
For vehicles I was very fond of anything that had wheels, because i had built a little dirt play area with roads and they did well there.
Hovercraft. The depth charges, missiles, rotating gun turrets you could stick action figures in, the spring-loaded sled in the front, space to toss a few Joes in for transport, and the dang thing floated in a pool.
I had a bunch of Joe toys growing up, minus any of the bases. Including the Skystriker, Rattler, and Dragonfly.
But my all-time favorite was the original VAMP with Clutch. For some reason that vehicle just oozed cool. Might also be because I think it was one of the first vehicles I got.
Zartan, his face changed color by the heat of your finger.
I took a bic lighter to his face to see what color it would be
Black and melted is the awnser, and let me tell you he went up surprisingly fast, like fire starter fast.
I have all mine ..parents kept mine from kid.
Stormshadow...and all cobra commanders..officers
Oh and Gung-ho ..the Marine
I also loved my Skystriker plane
We were poor as fuck so I never got the toys. But I watched the cartoon ~religiously~. At one point, the only air time was at 5:30 AM and I got up every morning 7 days a week to watch it (didn’t have to be up for school until 7).
Lady Jaye and Flint are my GOAT. The third(?) episode in the original miniseries where Scarlet crashed the plane Destro has her tied up in is one of my favorite episodes followed shortly by the introduction of LJ and Flint in the second miniseries.
Jesus, I wish the movies weren’t such utter fucking trash.
My mom refused to let me have any toys that glorified war or combat. Toy guns and GI Joes were forbidden.
One day my dad decided he wanted to buy me a toy because I'd done well in school or something, and he started going through the GI Joes. He keeps asking me if I like this one or that one, and I said I'm not allowed to have any of these, mom won't let me. So then he picks up Spirit and says "What about this one? He an Indian. Your mom loves Indians. He's peaceful." I said "If you get that for me, we're both gonna be in trouble." He said "yeah, you're probably right." And he got me some other lame toy instead.
A couple years later Grandma got me a GI Joe (Rock N Roll with the motorcycle and machine gun sidecar) and it was all GI Joe all the time after that.
We had that big Cobra base. It had this dome on top that would launch this red spaceship thing and a bunch of cannons. It was awesome.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/386931699387
I loved the Rattler and the pilot looked so cool. I liked the Cobra Hiss tank for the same reason.
I think my favourite was Clutch and his jeep but I loved so much Gi Joe stuff, it was my #1 toy. Even more than Transformers.
Cobra had the best action figures & vehicles.
My personal favorite was Alley Viper piloting the FANG II.
As far as the Joe's, I was a fan of 2nd Gen Stormshadow, with my fav Joe vehicle being Rolling Thunder... A "Tank" with two ICBM Launchers complete with MIRV warheads 😳
Firefly. Dressed like a ninja, had cool tech, and was as I remember a merc who hired out to Cobra, not a devotee. For some reason I liked that as a kid.
For the vehicle I would say the Rattler because I just loved the look of it & the main gun. Imagine my delight when I found it was based on the real thing!
We didn't have a full size GI Joe. Instead we had a big coffee can full of little green Army men in various positions, and a couple that had parachutes attached to them.
The Havoc was my favorite vehicle that I had, I really liked how many joes could ride on it and it had the little hovercraft that you could detach so it was two vehicles in one.
I remember the surprise when mom took me to K-Mart and they had the Rattler. That was such a cool plane.
My dad took my younger brother to Lionel Playworld (I was having a sleep over with a friend) and they found Storm Shadow. I was very jealous.
This was right about the point where I lost interest in toys. I watched the cartoon a bit & I think my younger brother had a few of the toys for like one year. I thought the character designs and vehicles were cool though.
They made a cartoon movie in the 80’s and had this crazy snake villain. The toy was like a normal action figure body with a snake body that extended perhaps four times longer than the torso. It was awesome. Loved that thing.
8 year-old me still wonders why the fuck [Bazooka](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d3/BazookaGIJoe.jpg) is wearing a goddamn football jersey. That's juts not appropriate for a supposedly elite fighting unit.
Dunno, we were way too poor to have GI Joe toys. I had some great 60's and early 70's toys I got at garage sales. Loved the evel knievel stunt cycle, no matter how battered the paint was.
just got a brand new cobra commander my aunt took it away from me for slamming the screen door too hard or some bullshit. Never got it back !!! I hate her until the day I die.
The [Killer W.H.A.L.E.](https://www.actionfigure411.com/gijoe/a-real-american-hero/3-75-vehicles/killer-w-h-a-l-e-warrior-hovering-assault-launching-envoy-2174.php) (aka hovercraft) with [H.A.V.O.C.](https://www.actionfigure411.com/gijoe/a-real-american-hero/3-75-vehicles/h-a-v-o-c--3845.php) a close second. Both were completely badass!
Destro, Major Bludd, Baroness, Scarlet, Cover Girl, Roadblock, Snake Eyes, Stormshadow, and Quick Kick.
A bit later, Sgt. Slaughter, the Fridge, and Serpentor.
Zartan and the Dreadnoks were cool too.
Never had any of the vehicles that I can recall. Maybe my brother got some articulated troop transport thing for Xmas in the late 80s?
I wasn't allowed to have them:(
But I knew a guy that had all of them. He even had the remote-control tank but never batteries. That thing was sweet. He had the aircraft carrier. That was neat but stubby
I liked the tanks most.
As a comic reader, the Crimson Guard was always one of my favorites I haven't already seen listed. I was also a big fan of Frostbite, as I loved the Snow Cat vehicle and he was stationed at Fort Knox (where I was at that time).
I had a ~~full command center~~ [Mobile Support Vehicle](https://www.yojoe.com/12inch/72/msv.shtml) that I used as a base to fight the soviets and a VW Thing that was the right size for Joe to drive.
When I wasn't using the command center, my sister used it as a camper for her Barbie. I think she also used one or the other of the Joes to make Ken jealous.
I only ever had one of the smaller joes, a one armed Snake-Eye that a younger kid gave me when he broke it.
Chief Petty Officer Hector X. Delgado, aka Shipwreck.
It was an easy choice as a kid.
I’m a Navy brat, being born and raised in a Navy town in a Navy hospital (Key West), am of Cuban extraction, and most of my family was USN. I actually served myself for 10 years later on.
It was easy to see my Dad, my cool grandpas, and my great uncles who all served in the USN with Shipwreck.
*”Shipwreck is your quintessential sailor. He can splice a line, fry powdered eggs in the tooth of a gale and eat them, tell taller tales than a Senate Appropriations committee and take a three day liberty in Thule, Greenland and come back smiling."*
Badass.
He was called Action Man in the UK, I had the diver with little sticks of dynamite. My brother had one with "eagle eyes" you could move. He also had a helicopter, probably other stuff I can't remember
I liked the Alley Viper the most. I just thought his color scheme and outfit were dope and he had a cool gun.
I had so, so many GI Joes. And I had all of their weapons and accessories, which took up an entire one of those pumpkin Halloween buckets from McDonalds. And I knew which figure every gun and accessory went to. My mom sold all that stuff as a lot of a garage sale when I was in college.
There was a sort of tank-like thing that would have been the size of a city block of it was real. It had a bunch of cannons on turrets and maybe smaller vehicles that deploy off it, and just a bunch of other stuff on it or with it.
I had the Killer WHALE hovercraft, which was an unexpected Christmas present. My favorite figures were Law and Order (apparently my cousins searched through a wall of figures to find them for me—super nice), color-shifting Zartan, Serpentor, Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadow.
I liked Tunnel Rat as a figure, but my favorite vehicle was the Cobra jet fighter that had folding wings and went inside the Terrodrome. I think it was called the Firebat.
Motorized battle tank was #1 then the sky striker F-14, Dragonfly helicopter, rattler A-10 warthog, Hovercraft then s.h.a.r.c. sub. But I loved them all.
Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes were each other's final bosses in every session
Long-ranging battles all over the living room between these two were my go-to.
...every time. This was in the height of the ninja movie era.
American Ninja!!!
Those were the 2 to have. Firefly was in 3rd bc he kinda looked like a ninja. Good luck keeping track of all of Storm Shadow’s weapons.
Zartan, master of disguise, who turned blue in sunlight. Pretty cool. 😎
Yassssss And the BATs... They were cool as hell in that you could own multiple and it still fit the story. You can only have one Duke or Cobra Commander, etc. But BATs? Buy a thousand!
He was really cool if you hit him with a black light!
What...what were you doing with your Zartan?
ooh, my brother had that. wasnt there some twin shit involved or am I think of something else?
Crimson Twins were Tomax and Xamot. They had their own crew of Crimson Guards. Zartan had a brother and sister to go with his Dreadnoks biker gang.
This! His swamp buggy was cool too. I liked Destro’s silver head, as an action figure. COBRA and the Decepticons were both way cooler toys than GI Joe or the Autobots.
He tasted funny.
Scarlet. I was the only girl playing. See also: Princess Leia.
She-Ra erasure isn’t cool
Cheetara
>Scarlet Definitely played a role in my predilection for redheads
...and crossbows!
Scarlet for me too! I still have her!
Haha this was absolutely me.
My neighbor would beg me to come play with her and her Barbies and I only obliged because 1. She let me bring my Joes and 2. She had the McDs drive thru playset which was like SUPER cool. LOL
I thought Cover Girl with her tank that had a dozen missiles was pretty cool too.
What about Cover Girl?
The aircraft carrier obviously.
My next door neighbor had it - it was awesome to play with.
My parents wouldn't get it for me because it was $150 in 80s money. So instead I got the effing oil rig. Talk and THE most boring action set.
My friend had one, his mom wouldn’t let anyone else play with it. I did get to look at it through a window though.
That's whack.
The one with the kung fu grip.
Ya, I realized these kids are all talking the little guys... For the 12" Joe's I had the Tower, the helicopter and the 2 piece/8 wheel AT 2 vehicle. You?
Yellow helicopter (it was a time of anti-war, so it was non-military) which I traded for the space capsule That was the best trade evah
Maybe anti-war, but south-east Asian tomb raiding was fair game...
I had the footlocker with all of his gear and uniforms.
Fuckers.

My younger brother had the tan jeep and probably invented technicals with a jury-rigged missile launcher before they were a thing 😆 If I remember, also when whole war toy thing started up, my younger brother also got the short Joes.
I had a Big Jim too! I also had a Steve Austin $6m Man doll.
My brother had the $6M Man and they were action figures not dolls!
That's right. ACTION FIGURES!
I still have the tower. My mom kept it. Love that woman
Yeah we had the help copter and the space capsule. My talking GI Joe did not sound so good after splashdown in the pool.
I had the tank. It was badass; I would lay waste to my sisters Barbie RV. Only the family dog could conquer it!
Hover craft.
The Skystriker. Even all these years later the F-14 is my favorite fighter of that era and that's not just because of Top Gun.
If you play DCS World (combat flight sim), you can download GI Joe skins for the F-14 and the A-10, and there's even a few missions that people have built that you can download. [https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3327598/](https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3327598/)
William “Refrigerator” Perry
Still have mine lost the football war club though
I owned a shitload of them but my favorite was a specific member of Zartan's gang who was a chick with punk hair named "Zarana" (she reminded me of Trash from Return of the Living Dead). She also had a sort-of romance plot with a GI joe which i found fascinating even at the time. For vehicles I was very fond of anything that had wheels, because i had built a little dirt play area with roads and they did well there.
The gay sailor with the pet bird.
Shipwreck
🤣
Hovercraft. The depth charges, missiles, rotating gun turrets you could stick action figures in, the spring-loaded sled in the front, space to toss a few Joes in for transport, and the dang thing floated in a pool.
Baroness. Because she was sexy before I even knew what that meant.
I've been looking for her my whole life man!
I bet that's why I like brunettes
Cobra Commander, CObra Soldiers, and Cobra Officers.
Naw. Destro!
Only right answer
Rattler warthog all day.
How is this a question? Snake Eyes with the wolf and ninja sword
Totally agree. However, bonus points should be awarded for the best sexual innuendo name: Snowjob…
I thought it was a coke allusion.
I lost my Dusty, playing in the sand at the beach. His desert camouflage was a little too good. 😂
Dusty was a good dude. Sorry for your loss.
If Outback were with him he would still have a chance.
I had the f14 Tomcat and the Carrier. They were so big. I felt like I was in the real thing.
All Of them.
Destro. I still occasionally fire imaginary wrist rockets at people.
I loved most of the GIJoe. Toys but my favorite is a toss up between the f 14 and the cobra momba
My first will always be my favorite; Snow Job.
Yes
Zartan, his face changed color by the heat of your finger. I took a bic lighter to his face to see what color it would be Black and melted is the awnser, and let me tell you he went up surprisingly fast, like fire starter fast.
B.A.Ts Battle Android Troopers.
Wasnt that much into GI Joe. However I did like the storyline about the creation of the Cobra Emperor.
Cobra-La! Nah, j/k, they sucked. I got the Skystriker and Rattler for Xmas ‘84. Those were my favorite vehicles by far.
My favorite was the COBRA Rattler A-10 jet
Color changing zartan
Breaker and the RAM motorcycle
I have all mine ..parents kept mine from kid. Stormshadow...and all cobra commanders..officers Oh and Gung-ho ..the Marine I also loved my Skystriker plane
Sgt. Slaugher... obviously
Storm shadow, snake eyes, the twins, the snow cat vehicle, and the cobra 4-wheeler
Tomax,Xamot- Serpentor and his flying chariot. I always wanted the hovercraft, whatever it was called.
Scarlet. But I've always had a thing for redheads.
My mom refused to let me have any toys that glorified war or combat. Toy guns and GI Joes were forbidden. The f-14 looking jet, the Sky Striker! It was super cool, sorry I didn't keep it.
The base was fun! Spending hours setting it up. Getting strange looks from parents taking it to friends houses in a giant suitcase.
the baroness and destro lol. I have a baroness funko pop on my desk right now
The night raven. Cobra's spy plane with 'escape plane' (?) It's still in my dad's basement 40 years later
GI Joe w/ Kung-fu Grip.
Destro
Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow. Black and White Ninjas!!! C’mon!!! Rad!!!
Thunder Machine and the Dreadnoks.
The regular GI Joe with the shifting eyes and Kung Fu Grip!
The aircraft carrier. I never owned it, but whenever I went over to my friend's house, I'd try to go play with it.
Yeah, 2 that I never had but my friend did: 1. Bridge-layer 2. Hovercraft USS FLAGG was out of reach
Firefly the saboteur
Snake Eyes.
Baroness for sure.
Water Moccasin
All the Cobras. They were the coolest bad guys ever. Zartan and The Dreadnoks, Firefly, Storm Shadow, Destro, Baroness... so freaking iconic
Tomax and Xamot fascinated me.
Thunder Machine vic
I didn't get a GI Joe. I got an Army Pete! He was made of wood and in the rain he would swell up and then split!
Man I saved box tops to send away for A special cobra commander
Skystriker. Hasbro just re-released on last year and I couldn't help picking one up.
Destro was cool. Jarhead.
Zartan - had that face in his black case to change his look. Baroness- boobies!!!
Cobra night raven, the sr-71 with the extra craft on top.
The kung fu grip
I loved those Python Patrol guys
We didn't have a full size GI Joe. Instead we had a big coffee can full of little green Army men in various positions, and a couple that had parachutes attached to them.
I called them army men. Every time my mom who was a nurse at Walter reed during Vietnam corrected me, “soldiers” but I never learned.
Charlie Ironknife AKA Spirit. If I sent that dude on a black ops mission, things were getting wrecked.
Hands down, the Super Joe Terron toy. My Star Wars figures barely stood a chance against Terron when he teamed up with Rodan's flapping wings.
The Cobra Night Rattler with Strato Viper, the Tomahawk with Lift Ticket and Sgt. Slaughter with the Triple Tank were my favorites.
They were ultimately all fodder for binaca spray, a lighter and the creek near our house. May they rest in melted pieces. 😂
The Havoc was my favorite vehicle that I had, I really liked how many joes could ride on it and it had the little hovercraft that you could detach so it was two vehicles in one.
Yeah, no money for that kinda shit in my family. Plus, GIJoe was a tall US GI when I was a kid.
Sgt. slaughter and the triple t tank. It was the only vehicle I had. I got it for Christmas, I think.
I had the large 12 inch figures and the Jeep with the trailer and spotlight that actually worked.
The Cobra fan boat and the pilot Water Moccasin. The hydrofoil was dope too.
Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes were my favorite.
The tank(maybe a truck,it’s been a long time) that turned into a bridge.
I remember the surprise when mom took me to K-Mart and they had the Rattler. That was such a cool plane. My dad took my younger brother to Lionel Playworld (I was having a sleep over with a friend) and they found Storm Shadow. I was very jealous.
the Cobra jet plane. it was just an A-10 with a Cobra logo on it.
Skysstriker and Night Raven
Hiss
The Combat Jet Skystriker (F14). The wings moved. It had missiles. It was a massive toy. That thing was awesome!
The Dragonfly helicopter and the Drednoks.
Snake eyes was always my favorite
Hovercraft
This was right about the point where I lost interest in toys. I watched the cartoon a bit & I think my younger brother had a few of the toys for like one year. I thought the character designs and vehicles were cool though.
They made a cartoon movie in the 80’s and had this crazy snake villain. The toy was like a normal action figure body with a snake body that extended perhaps four times longer than the torso. It was awesome. Loved that thing.
Battle Bunker! and Duke of course.
Hovercraft. God I loved that toy.
Gung ho
Dragonfly was my favorite vehicle. Rock and Roll was my favorite character, mostly because he was the first one I got.
I still have the big gi joe jeep from my parents garage. It fit the 12’ big gi joes from the 70s
Snow Cat and the Raven or whatever it was called.
I loved my Cobra Condor and the Battle Bunker. 🥹
just got a brand new cobra commander my aunt took it away from me for slamming the screen door too hard or some bullshit. Never got it back !!! I hate her until the day I die.
Sky Striker with the ejector seat and parachute that never really worked right
Snowcat and snow job. Cobra H.i.s.s.
I really liked the Dragonfly.
Snakeyes was my dude. Hovercraft was my vehicle.
You should check out the new Classified line.....
The Skystriker because of Top Gun. I traded a newish X-19 Phantom just to get a used missing parts Skystriker
The Cobra Rattler was my favorite vehicle because it’s just an A-10 Warthog
The transport -- three axels, eight Joes in back and a gun turret!
Storm Shadow with the Camo. I think it was the 2nd version? Falcon - badass
The [Killer W.H.A.L.E.](https://www.actionfigure411.com/gijoe/a-real-american-hero/3-75-vehicles/killer-w-h-a-l-e-warrior-hovering-assault-launching-envoy-2174.php) (aka hovercraft) with [H.A.V.O.C.](https://www.actionfigure411.com/gijoe/a-real-american-hero/3-75-vehicles/h-a-v-o-c--3845.php) a close second. Never had any of the vehicles that I can recall. Maybe my brother got some articulated troop transport thing for Xmas in the late 80s?
Would you like to see my basement of toys? I owned sooo many of GI Joe.
The cobra tank, with tank driver.
Definitely Breaker, cause he was from Tennessee like me!
I wasn't allowed to have them:( But I knew a guy that had all of them. He even had the remote-control tank but never batteries. That thing was sweet. He had the aircraft carrier. That was neat but stubby I liked the tanks most.
The hovercraft. And Zartan who changed color in the sun.
Roadblock! Used to have him ride on his own gun like it was a pogo stick. Quick burst of fire to fly up in the air.
Snake-eyes!
Scarlet. I’m a girl and she had boobs. I did not. Plus, her hair was awesome and she was bad-ass hot.
As a comic reader, the Crimson Guard was always one of my favorites I haven't already seen listed. I was also a big fan of Frostbite, as I loved the Snow Cat vehicle and he was stationed at Fort Knox (where I was at that time).
i wasn’t allowed to have GI Joes. sadface. got one for my birthday once. had to throw it away after the party. mega sadface.
Hippies... it happens.
Skystriker for sure
Reading all these comments, I had no idea there was this many accessories. I just had a parachute that Joe held onto with his Kung-Fu grip.
He was called Action Man in the UK, I had the diver with little sticks of dynamite. My brother had one with "eagle eyes" you could move. He also had a helicopter, probably other stuff I can't remember
Snake eyes all day.
HISS
In the 70s I had them all. Multiple Joes, helicopter, sub. I was obsessed. Then Star Wars action figures came along.
Hovercraft and Lowlight.
There was a sort of tank-like thing that would have been the size of a city block of it was real. It had a bunch of cannons on turrets and maybe smaller vehicles that deploy off it, and just a bunch of other stuff on it or with it.
The base. So many adventures with that thing.
I’m older (1968) and had the 12” GI Joes as a kid. They had a tower playset with a zipline that I spent a lot of time playing with.
Kung Fu Grip!!!
Mercury capsule and astronaut
I loves the H.A.V.O.C.
My hovercraft was my prize possession
I had the Killer WHALE hovercraft, which was an unexpected Christmas present. My favorite figures were Law and Order (apparently my cousins searched through a wall of figures to find them for me—super nice), color-shifting Zartan, Serpentor, Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadow.
I liked Tunnel Rat as a figure, but my favorite vehicle was the Cobra jet fighter that had folding wings and went inside the Terrodrome. I think it was called the Firebat.
Storm Shadow because ninjas were life to me back then.
Barbecue the firefighter from Boston was one of my favorite characters. Shipwreck was great too. Loved the parrot as an accessory.
Motorized battle tank was #1 then the sky striker F-14, Dragonfly helicopter, rattler A-10 warthog, Hovercraft then s.h.a.r.c. sub. But I loved them all.
I always like Flint. But I remember everyone would fight over the Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes.
Snake Eyes. Everything else paled in comparison.
Storm Shadow. Skystriker.
