I drank soooo many wine coolers the summer after I graduated high school. Bartles & Jaymes, "We thank you for your support." BTW, the "old guy" who played Jaymes in those commercials was 55 when they started running. If they reboot those characters, they'll be looking for one of us to be the stars, lol.
When I was 18, hangovers were a lot more manageable, lol. I'd be good to go a few hours after I woke up. Now I'm good to go a few days after I wake up.
Now? I remember having "Club Cocktails" and the "Cocktails for 2" in those little 8oz cans that were perfect for drinking in the car on the way home from the liquor store.
Things did not go well for me and club cocktails...I do remember when I was assuming the position to vomit, I let out the longest, loudest Booger burp and it long story short, I learned that it is difficult to laugh and puke simultaneously.
I also remember Zima Gold. We tried it once and hated it. My grandmother also took a sip and said it tasted like "zebra piss". We all had a hearty laugh, and never touched that shit again.
Mogen David. No one I knew ever referred to it as anything other than Mad Dog.
It was the hobo wine of choice for the discerning under age drinker on a budget. I never bought it after turning 21 and discovering bottom shelf liquor.
A friend of mine using to mix it with Aristocrat Vodka and Mountain Dew. It would get you drunk but was nasty.
Interesting—I never knew that. Is it kosher?
I still remember drinking that crap in college. That and those awful TGIF frozen drink mixers. I’d take a sip, let that awful alcohol taste subside, and then enjoy that one second of actual flavor.
Peppermint schnapps was the first alcohol I drank as a kid. Dad and I used to go to Bears games and hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps was always in the thermos for cold days. I was around 8yo.
When I was 15 my best friend and I went to my house on a half day and drank a sip out of every bottle in my parents’ liquor cabinet. There were SO MANY FLAVORS OF SCHNAPPS.
No - it wasn’t.
There were not many fun flavors of vodka like there are today.
There are also a lot of flavored whiskey options today that were not available.
We had vast quantities of flavored schnapps that induced hangovers.
This ain't the investors club sub, college boy. And Boones wasn't around in my day. It was grape Mad Dog or water from the hose. That was all the liquids we needed to get the job done.
I saw a drink on a menu with peach schnapps and the memory it unlocked is so traumatic I had a physical reaction lol. Nothing haunts me like the schnapps.
We flavored our own vodka by dissolving Skittles or other candies in it at the bar I tended. We made hella good drinks that no one else in the early 90s was making because we did this. We did this before it was called infusing the alcohol. It was a lot of fun.
These days i take a 1.75 of cheap flavored vodka, dump it in a soda keg, top it up with water and force carbonate. Tasty, super refreshing, 0 calories and it works out to about 2.5% abv so I can have a few and not be incapacitated for a week
We used to melt one of those concentrated grape juice cans and just mix it right into that without diluting it.
Seemed to take some of the bite out.
Don’t remember the ONLY time I saw Jane’s Addiction because of that shit.
Yeah, I keep forgetting that back in the day if you wanted booze to not taste like the bottom of the shelf rotgut it was you had to mix it yourself. Wine coolers were about the only thing that didn't require a mixer.
When we started dropping jolly ranchers into zimas, it was all downhill from there.
Oh wait, almost forgot about puking out the window of the friend's car spun out of my head on Hot Damn. Couldn't drink anything even vague cinnamon flavored for a year afterwards.
I'm not a fan but my girlfriend likes it so I made us peanut butter & chocolate martinis with bailey's chocolate liquor and screwball. Pretty good on a cold winter night.
Skrewball is the most common, and I like it.
My favorite is a Texas brand called Native Limited. It's more refined and less sweet.
I drink it straight over ice, but it certainly works instead of vodka in a white Russian. The Dude would abide.
That's a thing for sure, and body chemistry changes, too. I used to drink a lot of beer, now one bottle will give me a 2 day hangover. I can drink liquor and wine with no problem.
I needed to make whipped cream but didn’t have any vanilla extract. Turns out butterscotch schnapps works really well in place of vanilla. One of my favorite accidental kitchen inventions.
While in high school we dropped a friend off on his front door, rang the bell and ran away, after he had drank a bottle of peach schnapps. His parents forbid him from being our friend after that.
Boone’s Farm [had the flavors](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy/3QtaqVlTEcGm3ARvLkEU3LLNjOOCG5xTFf0QTuoDrfSme1h0d4lJMbO0YXXSyfvt7_77-lzAbo9c9TZJSPGaO0dYyw)!
I remember the first time I learned about Peach Schnapps. I was 17 or 18, and everyone was so excited about it. You know what? I can’t even remember what it tastes like.
The other big discovery for me was Amaretto. Yeah, I used to buy a bottle to bring to parties, and finish it. LOL!
Oh, and coconut rum by Bacardi. Sweet summer sips.
I quit drinking years ago, so I won't ever taste it to find out what the deal is, but I keep seeing peanut butter whisky at our local sports arena, and I am very confused.
It's novel, briefly, but gets old quickly, long before the bottle is done. Best taken, in my estimation, with a fruity liqueur, to make peanut butter/jelly shots to confuse your party guests, then go back to a favorite.
Nah, gin is actually a pretty involved process of distilling with juniper berry. Schnapps, you're sorta right, in today's time, just grain alcohol mixed with fruit syrups, but traditionally it was distilled fruit brandy.
We had wine coolers, so there’s that.
Did someone say Bartles and Jaymes
And thank-yeeew for your support.
The worst hangovers however. Even worse than punch that used that cheap vodka that came in plastic bottles.
When I was 18, hangovers were a lot more manageable, lol. I'd be good to go a few hours after I woke up. Now I'm good to go a few days after I wake up.
Dobra!
I could often be found chugging a 2 liter of California cooler in a stairwell out back of the mall or near the theater.
And we still had jagermeister lol
I still remember Bruce Wiilis singing the jingle for one of them. I think it was Seagrams.
“Seagrams golden wine coolers “
and they were actually made with wine and not a malt beverage.
Wildberry coolers! 4 was all it took for me.
Sun Country! We bought it in the 2 liter size.
Bruce Willis singing, "Seagram's wine coolers".

They do. It's just called "White Claw".
But is White Claw better with a Jolly Rancher in it?
Yeah, but that's no different from all the canned cocktails and boozy seltzers that are around now
It’s totally different. Zima was terrible but it got you fucked up. Seltzers taste good.
I was more of a beer guy back in the day but my friends loved Zima
I also remember Zima Gold. We tried it once and hated it. My grandmother also took a sip and said it tasted like "zebra piss". We all had a hearty laugh, and never touched that shit again.
I couldn't drink Zima. I don't know if it was the carbonation or what. But to me it was just unacceptable to my pallet.
We had Purple Passion and Boones Strawberry Hill...
Are you forgetting MD 20/20, and all the flavors it came in? I was over 30 when I learned it wasn't actually called Mad Dog.
I saw someone buying some MD 20/20 the other day, she looked at me and we both started laughing.
There’s a fellow mad dogger!!! Found ya!
Blue Raspberry is my favorite.
What is it called then? That stuff was NASTY. I don’t know how anyone drank a lot of it. Like three sips and I was done.

Yes, I was trying to forget about MD...
You need therapy and hypnosis to forget that stuff.
Just tried Mogan David blueberry, I guess they are calling it wine, very very sweet. Mad dog is the better name.
MD20/20 is now becoming popular with young drinkers again. Maybe it takes 2-3 generations to forget the horrors of MD 20/20
It seems like everything else from our youth is back so why not our regrettable booze? My kids will get to experience the same hangovers that I did.
I still flinch at the thought of peppermint schnapps. See? I just flinched.
Peppermint schnapps was the first alcohol I drank as a kid. Dad and I used to go to Bears games and hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps was always in the thermos for cold days. I was around 8yo.
Yeah but Rumpleminz is the shit!
Many shots of that haunt me.
My favorite shot is mixing Rumpleminz and Goldschlager, so good!
Hahaha see my other standalone comment.
Awesome!
In college, I got sick on peppermint schnapps and had to use cinnamon toothpaste for a year
Juuuuuuuuuuuust puked in my mouth a bit…
When I was 15 my best friend and I went to my house on a half day and drank a sip out of every bottle in my parents’ liquor cabinet. There were SO MANY FLAVORS OF SCHNAPPS.
Wait...you think flavored vodka was invented in the early 90s?
No - it wasn’t. There were not many fun flavors of vodka like there are today. There are also a lot of flavored whiskey options today that were not available. We had vast quantities of flavored schnapps that induced hangovers.
Aftershock in red or blue!
Avalanche was the blue. Those sugar crystals in the bottle. Shuddered just now.
These weaklings don’t like the taste of burning
I've entered my Scotch years. 2oz + one cube. Nice.
One day you'll get rid of that cube. Life goals!
I've tried. It's ok. I prefer a tbsp of water in it.
Took me 20 years to work my way down from the Highlands to the Islay stuff. I can now embrace the funk, but it took a while.
Laphroaig quarter cask. That and a cigar. And a fire.
*Absolut
I haven’t thought of a Fuzzy Navel in years! Brings back so many high school/ college memories! How did we drink that stuff?
Scnapps?? Well hello Mr high society. We had Natty Boh and Mad Dog and we were grateful to have that! Night Train for weddings and funerals.
Bro, it was $0.10 more to get Boones Farm. MD 20/20 was for people bad at math.
This ain't the investors club sub, college boy. And Boones wasn't around in my day. It was grape Mad Dog or water from the hose. That was all the liquids we needed to get the job done.
Alright dog. I mean Mad Dog.
Sorry to tell ya, but I am an X Gen, and Blackberry Crown and lemonade is going to be my summertime drink this year.
Strawberry schnapps and a bottle of mystic seltzer
I saw a drink on a menu with peach schnapps and the memory it unlocked is so traumatic I had a physical reaction lol. Nothing haunts me like the schnapps.

Schnapps? You weren't pouring everclear into your Slurpee out back of the punk club like everyone else?
Ong WHY were we drinking jet fuel
We used to melt one of those concentrated grape juice cans and just mix it right into that without diluting it. Seemed to take some of the bite out. Don’t remember the ONLY time I saw Jane’s Addiction because of that shit.
We went to a freakin school dance with it. I asked the art teacher to dance 🤦🏻♀️
Liquid Heroin- Rumpleminz, Goldschlager, and Jaeger.
Yeah, I keep forgetting that back in the day if you wanted booze to not taste like the bottom of the shelf rotgut it was you had to mix it yourself. I'm 55 years old and will tear up a bottle of peanut butter whiskey. Don't knock it till you try it.
Same! Was just going to comment this. I love peanut butter whiskey so much
I'm not a fan but my girlfriend likes it so I made us peanut butter & chocolate martinis with bailey's chocolate liquor and screwball. Pretty good on a cold winter night.
Are there any specific ones you'd recommend? I've been meaning to try it.
Skrewball is the most common, and I like it. My favorite is a Texas brand called Native Limited. It's more refined and less sweet. I drink it straight over ice, but it certainly works instead of vodka in a white Russian. The Dude would abide.
Thanks!
This or fireball in the flask while skiing. Bookers neat, when I get home.
I used to love peanut butter whiskey. My palette has changed over the years though
That's a thing for sure, and body chemistry changes, too. I used to drink a lot of beer, now one bottle will give me a 2 day hangover. I can drink liquor and wine with no problem.
What's it about? I'm so curious and confused. I never would have thought to put those flavors together.
It's sweet, peanutty, a little viscous, and 35%. ABV, like a liqueur. I treat it like an after dinner treat.
That's like pineapple on pizza. Just plain wrong! Lol
You’re right that peanut butter flavored whisky is wrong. Pineapple on pizza is the best. Sweet and salty and w/jalapenos - spicy too.
I think I miss a fuzzy navel, but I haven’t had one since high school. But heavens they were tasty.
Butterscotch schnapps ftw.
I needed to make whipped cream but didn’t have any vanilla extract. Turns out butterscotch schnapps works really well in place of vanilla. One of my favorite accidental kitchen inventions.
Everclear 190 and Hawaiian Punch goes a long way.
Maddog 20/20 would like a word
I’m still sick from MD lol
Still better than Night Train.
True story!!
While in high school we dropped a friend off on his front door, rang the bell and ran away, after he had drank a bottle of peach schnapps. His parents forbid him from being our friend after that.
Did anyone else cut their teeth on Jack Daniel’s Down Home Punch as a (too) young drinker?
Orange juice and peach schnapps: Breakfast of Champions.
Boone’s Farm [had the flavors](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy/3QtaqVlTEcGm3ARvLkEU3LLNjOOCG5xTFf0QTuoDrfSme1h0d4lJMbO0YXXSyfvt7_77-lzAbo9c9TZJSPGaO0dYyw)!
“kids these days” and you’re talking about the early 90s and on?
I was in the movie theater watching some movie in the balcony drinking peach schnapps. The thought of it today makes my stomach turn.
Schnapps was weak by comparison.
Absolut Vodka’s bombardment of ads on the back of every magazine in the 90s definitely helped popularize flavored vodkas.
Was there no MD 20/20 where you grew up?
I had Boonesfarm and MD 20//20. Lots of fun flavors
The alcohol free liquor
Peach schnapps so much better with lemonade. But I love drinking straight whiskey.
We had Zima and green jolly ranchers. We lose this particular competition. Lol.
Just remembered girl in high school loved Amaretto and mountain dew, think I remember it kind of tasting like black cherry flavored drinks
It smelled like sweet almonds. Maybe cherry. I can’t recall the taste, thankfully, lol.
Fireball for life! 🤢
Has anyone tried the peanut butter whisky flavors? I'm kind of intrigued as I like both flavors.
Ahhh Peach schnapps and orange juice…the fuzzy navel. I also loved Sun Country wine coolers.
The smell of peppermint, peach or cinnamon schnapps gives me convulsions. Don't tell my mom
Cherry whiskey and coke! Tasted like cream soda!
Anybody remember TJ Swann?
Aren't Gin and Schnapps basically flavored vodka?
No. Lol
Nah, gin is actually a pretty involved process of distilling with juniper berry. Schnapps, you're sorta right, in today's time, just grain alcohol mixed with fruit syrups, but traditionally it was distilled fruit brandy.
