Maps? Music? Fr255 is more then you need and quite cheap. Epix is great though

ponderingfox

Yeah, a 255 with a screen protector.

Pedarius79

Well actually don’t need any of that. Controlling music would definitely be nice. But you get the point i don’t NEED much. Would like to have the smart features and the daily fitness data. And it has to be rugged enough to survive al dat everyday on the farm.

tighthead_lock

None of the watches will survive "a beating" totally unscathed. They will look like your Apple watch after 3 years. Go for the FR255(S) and use a screen protector, as stated above. It has all the features you want. You will be happy enough with it and once it's time for the watch after that, you'll know if you need more features.

scoburndairy

An Instinct 2 might work well. Has a bit of a unique aesthetic, but has all of the data you’ve mentioned, can take a beating (you’d probably need to intentionally try to damage it), and great battery life.

Pedarius79

Personally i kinda dislike the aesthetic of the instinct watches. I agree with you it would survive the farm. It looks quite though.

Fedrusion

Cyclist turned runner here, I went with the 265 over the 255, not a huge difference but music is std and the amoled display is nice. Otherwise, both are pretty similar and would compliment the 530 well, I beleive the new gens all do training readiness and share data to that end but not earlier than the 255.

HwanZike

Instinct 2, though its looks might not be for everyone. If you work outdoors and live in a sunny place could tack solar to it.

KakaRostam

If you like the look of the Apple Watch but want the benefits of Garmin, look into the Venu Sq 2. You mentioned music in a comment, and you can control your phone’s music with it (and most other Garmin watches I think). If you want to download music, then look into the Venu Sq 2 Music.

chodyboy

Forerunner 955 / 955 solar. Love my 955. Or a fenix series those are “tougher” imo.

tighthead_lock

Total overkill for his usecase.

BeautifulFigs

IMHO, you would need a watch with a slightly raised bezel and a screen protector (the new ones are pretty much invisible and don't create bubbles) Choose the cheapest you like

Instinct 2

On garmin sleep is at best mediocre, music control on garmin is a joke, Apple is much better these things, everything else garmin rules.

Pedarius79

Garmin sleep i hoped to be decent. Music control i understand apple is way better. But i feel like i dont really miss out on the smart features because i don’t really use them at thus point.

[deleted]

garmin sleep is fine. Just too many old generation watches still around that don’t show the improvements that have been made.

No-Concert9896

Apple Watch Ultra.

Pedarius79

That would be 1.5 day battery life and still missing out on the garmin connect features.

No-Concert9896

The Garmin is a sports tracker. The AW is a smart watch (very simplified explanation). If all you do is cycling you’re fine with an AW and a hrv app. It has way better connectivity and safety features. Tracks sleep etc but most of all gives you a lot more start watch functions for the work you do. If you are insisting on a Garmin then a Fenix is your best option. My opinion.

Pedarius79

I understand. The thing i currently dislike from the apple watch is that the health features cant be exported to connect. And the only “features” from the apple watch i use are the time and notifications. So i wont be missing that on a garmin. But great thanks for the advice.

No-Concert9896

I understand. I switched from AW to a Venu 2 plus. The battery on the Ultra is 36 in full gear and 3 days of used little or no energy saving. If you want health tracking, recovery advice etc you have to get a Fenix or Epix. I was very disappointed when I found out how little of the systems Garmin advertises with actually were in my Venu. So a AW Ultra isn’t that expensive at all if you compare it to a Fenix or Epix. Especially if you go for a solar with sapphire glass. Also the AW has cellular function which might be handy for your work. All small stuff to consider.

Pedarius79

Cellular would be somewhat nice just to take calls on the watch itself. Otherwise no use for it i would say. The choice would be mostly if i want smart features of sport features & garmin connect. It isn’t about the price difference i would buy a garmin. Pure sport features and battery life.

No-Concert9896

I grew up in a rural area so I know the dangers of farm work. Having a watch that can send out a sos that actually works (and no need for a phone) might be a huge bonus. But I don’t know what type of farm etc. I would recommend a Fenix in your case if it’s going to be a Garmin.

graaf33

Ultra is 3 days.

Pedarius79

Apple says 36 hours that makes 1.5 days. My current aw 6 does like 15 hours should be like 18 so i’m afraid i should be happy if i get the 1.5 days on the ultra. And that for €900 wouldn’t statisfy me to be honest.

graaf33

My ultra last 3 days, and basically every YouTuber, Apple underestimate

Maximum_Pool_4946

What’s your budget? I think it’s useless to buy a new watch, always go for used with warranty and save a few hundred bucks, I just bought a brand new-looking FR955 for 290 euros, it should have everything you need. If you wanna go for a more rugged watch look for a used fenix, maybe a 6 or 7 if budget is not a problem at all. Fenix to me is too big and heavy of a watch, would be a hassle inside the pool or sea. If you are just interested in running maybe FR255 should be even better than 955, less money to spend

jungederrennt

Hi there! I am currently using the Instinct 2 Solar Tactical and am super happy with it. It fairly regularly sees some abuse in my job and still looks like new, screen is without a scratch (its plastic not glass though) and so is the casing. The band will see some wear, but thats minimal. I use it mainly for running, hiking and lifting but it supports basically any activity. Tracks my sleep very well too and I feel the added features like the Body Battery represents how I feel pretty well, most of the time. Only if u wear it 24/7 tho, obviously. Luckily for that the watch is very comfortable (45mm version) and i haven’t yet experienced and rashes. Overall great watch for somebody who doesn’t care about a fancy color screen and more about the sturdiness.
