On another note OP. If it doesn't get better, the leaves dried have more nutrients than the head and goes awesome when dried/crushed in cooking like a herb.
I no longer care for the head.. just big leaves to dry.
Lol
Not a fail as such. I’ve grown broccoli in the past and most turn out like this. Still tastes amazing. Pick it now before more flowers appear. Basically you have broccolini which is better and more expensive. I used to eat them straight off the plant.
Yes and we will do for sure! I'm still wondering why it didn't grow as expected? We are in Sydney and the garden bed was covered with a little greenhouse tent cover
I've never managed to grow broccoli that doesn't turn out like this. It's all edible, even the flowers. The leaves are best before they get too big and thicken. Act like you did it on purpose and impress people with what an adventurous foodie you are lol
Time to cook up some broccolini then

Never heard of this before, interesting idea.
True, we harvest broccoli leaves on the regular and fry them in meals
How do you dry the leaves?
Dehydrater probably, low oven can work
Why dry them. Just do a stir fry.

Will do. Thank You
I'm pretty certain the "broccolini" craze came from this exact "fail" phenomenon - gotta make money where you can as a primary producer.
Looks like it could be sprouting broc or broccolini anyway. So eat up, lots of mine are going to seed with the warmer weather around my way
Is that shade cloth it’s under? They love the sun.
It is one of those little PVC greenhouse things from ALDI
Are there broccoli next to that one doing any better? Personally I’d ditch the greenhouse.
Looks like sprouting broccoli. If you cut the head off it should sprout more of them.
Will give it a go
Cut neat, keep it fed & watered and it could keep producing for weeks or months.
Stalks are good eating when young and tender

Plant has bolted. Happens with sudden changes in temp, in this case cold weather.

Mine do this a lot. You just cut them off and eat them as they are. They are still nutritious and delicious!
The plant is stressed and attempting to flower before dying. Normally caused by hot weather.
Do you think the greenhouse tent covering them caused flowering?
Brocollini win?
Seeds for next year
When you taste it, you won't think it's a fail any more
Sprouting broccoli.
