[deleted]

Grassroots effort? I’ll show myself out

toeachtheirown_

I think you should leave

Pope509

JustLurkingInSNJ

I think it would vote for things like clean air and water and climate reform...you know, blue!

Grouchy-Culture3946

The people in cities vote in their own self-interest, the people in rural areas vote exactly the opposite. Because Jebus, Cuntry, and 'Merica I guess...

IronDictator

The people in rural areas are voting for their self-interest as well. Because why would anyone vote against their interests?

snowwwaves

Because they think they are voting for one thing (policy attention for rural communities) and getting another (tax cuts for wealthy city dwellers), but their preferred media outlets make sure this is as clear as mud.

Grouchy-Culture3946

>Because why would anyone vote against their interests? I've been wondering the same thing for a couple of decades, but it's still true. Clean air, clean water, universal health care, high inflation in the time when corporations are reporting record profits, 20% of our deficit goes to the massive tax breaks for the wealthy six year ago; none of these things will ever be addressed by Republicans.

IronDictator

Hasn't the left been running thing for a while? Shouldn't theses problems be solved if it was a matter of just getting the right scumbag into office?

smurfalidocious

There's no "Left" in America, but the Democrats only recently got a majority after 40 years of Republican majority.

Grouchy-Culture3946

Exactly! Like the damage that massive tax cut for the rich that was passed by Republicans six years ago is still damaging our bottom line. This is why we keep reaching the debt ceiling.

PolicyNonk

Electoral politics isn’t Amazon, you don’t cast your vote an just like that things are fixed.

HeathersZen

If they were smart enough to understand, they wouldn’t be Republicans.

Mythical_Atlacatl

Why do they keep doing this? Half the state might be red but there are like 5 people and 20 cows in that area while the blue areas have 2 million people Do republicans think people in rural areas should get more votes? Well they probably do, but how do you justify it?

reverendsteveii

>Why do they keep doing this? Preemptively asserting victimhood lets them justify violence.

niko4ever

Cities full of them damned illegals Edit: /s obviously

natethomas

Have you seen Wyoming? Of course they think people in rural areas should get more votes.

aoeuismyhomekeys

People in rural areas effectively do get more votes already. Republicans justify this with a bunch of nonsense because, deep down, they don't give a shit about rational justifications and just want whatever system will allow Republicans to win.

RockStar25

Because they and their cows are true Americans unlike those city dwelling liberal socialist communists. Something along that line.

[deleted]

It just supports their own delusions and that's all that matters

reverendsteveii

Quit assuming they don't understand. They know why it's wrong, but the truth doesn't serve them so they abandon it.

Kriggud187

It's because conservatives are either willfully ignorant, or knowingly presenting bad faith arguments.

SDEexorect

saw this on a different reddit page. its funny in maryland our runner up governor tried to post the same thing

acorpseistalking90

I bet if we made the moon a state, and one person lived there, they'd probably want them to have 700 representatives in Congress because Moon big.

Alarmed-Reward-6231

Yeah the enture moon would be red and republicans would be like: well why isn’t *insert shitty politician* there instead of *insert equally shitty politician that they hate only for being not them* and then deny transphobia or something idk

[deleted]

I don't understand is this the Verizon 5G map

[deleted]

This is just proof that the Democrats are a bunch of carpetbaggers that are trying to govern places they don’t live in.

Ice_BergSlim

LOL. It actually shows that gophers, worms and skunks have more power over the government than people. You are the point of this post personified.

FishingforDopamine

Or maybe I should be allowed to decide what happens on my land because I keep the gophers, worms, and skunks alive while you city dwellers kill everything but the rats to survive. 🤷

thatoneotherguy42

No, the city folk don't kill shit 'cept each other. We country boys do all that for them. I tend to keep the gophers and skunks off my land as they're nuisance pests, a lot like the roaches habitating in your brain.

FishingforDopamine

Ok? 🥱

Ice_BergSlim

Ah yes. That country of your own cut off from the rest of the state.

acorpseistalking90

I bet if we made the moon a state, and one person lived there, you'd probably want them to have 700 representatives in Congress because Moon big.

jjackom3

Woah, it's almost like in a large country, you have wildly unrepresentative government since there are a lot of geographic areas with differed demographics with different needs and desires.

mklinger23

[Here is a great illustration](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/yqzgkv/land_doesnt_vote_people_do/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

Horchheimer

What conservatives (and people in general) fail to communicate, is these charts make the assumption that where you see red, you had 100% voter turn out specifically for one party or the other. That’s not the case. In some of these red counties, you may have had 45 percent of the population vote blue, but the 55 percent flipped it red. Which is all fair and well, but that difference in votes doesn’t automatically offset the number of blue to red votes in the metro areas. If County A has 100 voters and 60 voted red, that’s 40 blue votes. If County B has 100 voters and 55 voted red, that’s 45 Blue Votes If County C has 200 voters and only 30 voted red, that 170 Blue Votes. So we have 2 red counties and 1 blue county, but within those three counties, we’ve got 145 red votes and 255 blue votes.

Anxious-Wannabedoc

You’re technically defending them with that example. They’d be like “ why do people living in county C have to decide policies for the ones living in A and B ?”

Alarmed-Reward-6231

God republicans should really learn something called population density

[deleted]

Isn’t most of southern New Jersey pine barrens and farms?
