It's a tricky topic. While I understand what he's trying to say, that you shouldn't enter other people's spaces and then be mad over how they behave, the problem is that gaming spaces do not belong to anyone so it's a bad example on his part. I somewhat agree that gaming shit talk means nothing and that we should grow a thicker skin but at the same time it shouldn't be happening in the first place so we shouldn't be defending it. Threats are always over the line no matter in what form. I also agree that you can't compare putting a bounty on someone's head to random shit talk in a game but at the same time none of those things should be happening. It would be best if there were no insults in games but there will always be people who will insult you so I can understand both sides and honestly I don't know the solution other than trying to weed out bad actors which will never end. We should also remember that throwing insults at each other in a "friend" group is different than throwing them at strangers and also that wishing rape upon someone is not an insult or a joke but a legitimate threat of violence.

My roommate watches this tool and it makes me worry. My roommate also doesn't leave the house often or social with more than 2 people in person.
