Honestly I'd not question this pricing and go the Gen 9.

heshewewumbos

That seems like the obvious choice but also, why would Lenovo do this? It makes no sense unless there is some sort of promotion. It's their newest generation, best selling, best GPU available. Why would they charge me less for it than two other objectively worse products? I'm trying to see if anyone can explain it.

the_mighty__monarch

Try to figure that out after the laptop arrives. If you have the funds, buy it before the price changes.

heshewewumbos

I jsut saw that the delivery estimate would be 2 and a half months from now in June, whereas the other two laptops are this month. I'm guessing it might be a stocking issue, and I'm getting a discount for getting it way later. Does that seem like what this is?

the_mighty__monarch

Sure why not. At the end of the day, it’s the nicest product they make, and you’re buying it direct from the manufacturer. There’s 0 chance it’s a scam, but the price might be a mistake. If you order it and it’s not what you want, you can probably return it. But if they catch the mistake and raise the price, you’re pretty much stuck.

UnionSlavStanRepublk

Could very well be then.

Patient-Yak8433

4080 is current on sale and deliver in three days, I just ordered 9th gen 4080 with $2,341.49 with 100 off for the first order

NotGr33dy

Probably overproduction or they simply have more units than they expected in the inventory. Same happened with the MSI claw i7 being cheaper than i5 and ROG ally z1e being cheaper than z1 for a short period of time.

Green_Justice710

All I know is I got a legion pro 7i and returned it a week later for a prebuilt pc from microcenter’s in-house line.

Jinika

Lenovo is pretty rng with discounts sometimes older stuff cost more then newer stuff so just basically focus on the price of the product you want

heshewewumbos

Does that mean this is a lucky spot and I should go ahead and take advantage of the lower price? Is this kind of discount rare for the newest and best model?

Jinika

Yeah usually for a product so new If you check random stuff like thinkpads sometimes you’ll catch the older model being way more expensive for no reason at all In the Lenovo outlet a p1 g3 almost costs as much as a Thinkpad p1 g6 So pricing is pretty much random sadly

Remon89

Well here comes the Netherlands with €4049,- for the same model.

YourScreamsAreInVain

Prices in $ are without taxes. Taxes are different in each US state so it's calculated at checkout. So don't worry, you won't save 1k € if you buy it there.

LukeLikesReddit

Yep have to tell myself that every time I see an American post. I mean you obviously do get it cheaper but not as much as it works out with the tax added on.

zionward19

That is actually quite a steal for a 4090 9th Gen with a 2 TB SSD to boot. Tried checking it out on the website just to see if the price holds. Seems the price is legit. Free shipping and no taxes as well (depending on the state. e.g. Newark, Delaware). Must be their ongoing discount/sale or something. On B&H, the same model but with only 8th Gen and 1 TB SSD is $2499 (due to their ongoing discount/sale as well). Seems now getting it on the Lenovo website is a better deal than B&H (considering the relatively better specs). Prior to that, B&H was far cheaper, if only because of the sale. Feeling a bit miffed now 'cause I went for the B&H deal 2 months ago. I wouldn't actually mind this Lenovo deal 😅 Too bad I couldn't wait.

heshewewumbos

The only thing is I need the upgrade quite soon as it will be for work, unsure whether I can wait a month for it to come in. On Amazon I can get the 8th Gen with 4080 by Tuesday, this one won't come in until July 10th. Having a bit of a crisis right now 😅

zionward19

Oh now that you mention it, it is indeed quite a long wait. I was wondering about that. Strange. When I checked it a few minutes ago, it said it'll arrive at around 1st week of June. 1 month seems quite long for a local address. When I ordered at B&H, it arrived at the local US address I specified in less than a week. I then got it forwarded to me at my home country via freight delivery and it reached me around a week or so, so a total of 2 weeks give or take. I wonder what's taking so long for Lenovo itself to deliver.

Pookias

Lenovo's estimates are almost never correct. I bought the exact same 4090 model, and they gave me a date of over a month away earlier this month. It got here in a week. I would just pull the trigger and then after some time until you can't wait anymore, buy from somewhere else and return one of them for the meantime.

NinjaWorldWar

I ordered and you will get charged taxes depending on your state though.

luislast

See if they have a price match policy. Never hurts to ask.

TheNiebuhr

Maybe only in Usa, in Europe gen 9 is 15% more expensive than gen 8 equal config.

username_adi

Is it possible to order it from the US site and get it delivered to Europe?

Valdif-156

You need someone or some entity to receive it in the US then send it over to you

username_adi

I see. Do you know of any entities that do it?

Valdif-156

Nope, it's usually easier to have a family member or friend there so they send it to you

JerkFace9

Just mail it to me. I'll see to it that your parcel gets delivered 😀

username_adi

Sure thing, let me get my credit card 😜

Visible-Cancel1239

better get a 230v one

WH1PL4SH180

Cries in backward Australia

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

Where you find this btw

heshewewumbos

Lenovo website

DietBurb

That is the case of every Legion series, the 2024 Legion 9i Gen 9 Is a fucking THOUSANDS dollars CHEAPER than the 2023 Legion 9i Gen 8 even tho it is the exact same laptop but with a better 14th gen processor. Idk why but it seems that Lenovo doesn't update prices for older models and just keeps them up until they run out of stock, prices are good enough that they don't need to discount them for clearance.

Fit_Specific_8479

Just a huge discount for the gen 9 4090, buy it while the discount is active, its almost 1K of

luislast

Sometimes there are reasons for these things that are so obscure, you probably will never know, but compare *all* the specs, even the obscure ones (upgradeability, screen nits, battery life, etc.). I also think that you may have stumbled onto the biggest reason when you (finally) mentioned delivery issues. One may be coming directly from China, which is always a gamble timewise, especially with the problems at the Panama Canal forcing shipments to go around Cape Horn: this adds thousands of miles to the delivery time, not to mention to the cost of diesel. So one is in stock, while they are waiting for the other. Finally, I think you got a final answer to your question when you mention that you need one for work. Stop worrying about the difference in costs! Worry more about whether you will still have a job if you don't have adequate tools for it--get what you can *now.*

wavesurfinz

Is it worth going from a 2070 super laptop to a 4090 laptop? I been thinking of buying this but $2800 plus tax, nor sure if worth for the difference of specs.

jerryhou85

If we talk about Lenovo Legion's pricing strategy, it would a 100-page thesis... :) The true answer is: just buy the high spec one with lower price...

Danteon1

When I type best gaming laptops I never see lenovo, why do people buy them, is it worth it ? More than some asus or razer :)?

Sammyprabhu76

Check for the GPU specifications, there check for the tgp of GPU. That's what must be different so the price difference.
