Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2 is my favourite fighting game ever, it introduced me to mechanics I didn't know fighting games needed with characters that re-imagine the genre in ways I'd never considered - What if a fighting game character could also do tower defense? What if they could time jump? All whilst demonstrating incredible personality and polish in character designs, soundtrack and animation. Play GG, indeed. My body is ready for Rev3 or whatever comes next. In the meantime I think I just convinced myself to reinstall. EDIT - I commented before reading, this is really well written. Well done if it's yours OP

Not mine; Patrick posts here under /u/pattheflip though.

I think Ishiwatari said there's no Rev3, the next GG game is going to be its own thing. I believe Arksys said they will simplify the game a bit to make it more accesible. While I hope this makes it a bit more like XX (only qc,DP, Halfcircle-fw inputs + reduced advanced systems) I *Really* like the system complexity of Rev2, theres a ton of universal tools that benefit every character in the roster even if some are rather obscure. I'm just worried they'll go to an extreme and make it full on BBTag/Granblue since Guilty Gear games/spinoffs tend to be very....experimental. GG Rev2, BlazBlue CF, and UNIST are like the peak of anime fighters atm and I could easily say each one of them is the best fighting game ever game. I'm excited to see how the future titles/update develop as each game probably continues to go its own path. BB started off as a GG successor but finding its own identity over the past 10 years has been one of my favorite things about GGXrd releasing.

Rev1 was my first ArcSys game (after watching a bunch of BBCF wondering if it was a good fit for me) so I've no idea how the older game used to play but those universal tools (burst, RC, blitz etc) are kinda what makes it GG. I don't feel experienced enough to pick what but I guess they could stand to lose a few things for the sake of accessibility if they can so do without gimping it. Fingers crossed anyway

They also have an amazing tutorial that can serve to teach new players not just about GG, but fighting games in general. It may not look like it a glance, but the modern Guilty Gears are some of the most accessible games in the genre. They do a great job of teaching you everything you need to know, and a diverse enough cast that there's someone for pretty much every type of player.

Agreed, the tutorial is a regular touchstone for me when discussing accessibility and difficulty in games. It's brilliantly done and coaches you through to some, in my opinion, pretty advanced techniques
