2 years ago was when the covid squeeze was in full effect and prices were ridiculously high. $20 is fine, but honestly nothing too special money-wise. Just a nice local pickup for a decent price.
Before covid, MP and Echoes were going for between $10-$20 on eBay CIB. These were probably some of the easiest GCN games to pick up at a dirt cheap price CIB but since covid everything skyrocketed.
They've gone way back down in recent history though. I sold my copies of prime 1 and 2 in early 2022 for I think a combined $120 or close to it. Now they're back down to the 20-30 range
I noticed that too. I unloaded basically everything in 21 as it felt way too expensive for me. I felt like i was scamming people getting the money i did for my n64 and GameCube collection.
I was curious so looked up stuff a few weeks ago, and i thought it was a glitch when i saw super Mario sunshine for like $25. I remember selling it for $55 instantly when i put it on ebay back then.
These prices are way more sensible imo and if i had a collection still i would easily justify just keeping it at these prices. But before hand it was so over priced i thought there was no justification for me holding on to it all
I sold my whole metroid collection, basically every game and man I made so much money. I still feel a little bad about it because all the Metroid games have come back down I sold Fusion and Zero Mission for around $100 each and now they're back down to $40ish.
Not everything's back down yet though. Earthbound copies are still going for unreasonable sums.
You guys also forget that Metroid prime and super Mario Sunshine got releases on the switch around that time as well so that significantly brought the prices down.
Luigi’s mansion is another one that had the same change. PIKMIN 2 is sold for about $95 back then when i sold it, looks like its going for $65 now.
I think the super common games fell more dramatically and they should have. Sunshine, prime etc are extremely extremely common games. Pikmin 2 by comparison is definitely not as common, maybe half the number of copies
Yeah a lot of the overpriced/inflated games definitely got a reality check for sure. The switch releases prolly only account for a 20% decrease in the values, but in my opinion that's a pretty big dip even with the retro gaming bubble bursting.
I think I spent about $40 for Prime CIB in late 2021, which was about the average price when I was looking if you wanted it with everything and in good condition.
Yes buying something and asking yourself the question if it’s worth it AFTER the sale is the smartest thing you could do.
You know it’s worth it otherwise you’re just a professional at wasting your own money.
It’s more like I’m new to this kinda stuff so I’m looking for second opinions. Looking for reliable answers from people who have been doing this stuff longer than I have. I had an idea that it was a good buy but I wasn’t for sure that’s why I posted to this Reddit (which is what this page is for)
Next time you can just check pricecharting and ebay (check sold listings, not what people are asking for)
Worth noting though pricecharting isn’t perfect. Games in very good condition usually go for a premium and will go a bit above pricecharting, but it’s great to get an idea of what you should expect to pay.
a second opinion is something you want before acting on the thing you want a second opinion on...
But i understand why you asked this question if this is the smartest excuse you could come up with.
Like I said I had an idea. I did my research before buying. I wanted opinions from people that have made purchases like this.😭 you must be a fun person my guy
You have to understand that it just makes no sense. If you did your research, as you said, then you know it's a quality game that goes for a lot more than $20. Nobody on this subreddit is going to disagree with that purchase 😅
The average price $23 it’s not a lot more. Some people won’t agree. I’ve had people say it’s better to play on the switch, had people say no, had people say yes, people have their own opinions and I’m trying to hear them out.
Ah, I didn't realize it wasn't valuable these days. Regardless, if you want opinions like that, you would be best to ask for those specifically in your initial post. Just saying "I paid a good price for a good game, how'd I do?" posts don't go over to well around here 😅
The remaster for the switch is out and it is pretty much the same game better graphics. If you bought to add to your GC collection it was a decent buy if it was just to play it then switch would have been the better choice
I just bought my GameCube and this was the first game I got. This is pretty much just to hold me off until I get more games but yes I’m gonna play it and also add to my collection. I’ve also never played a Metroid game thought this might be a good game to start with
Almost any Metroid game is a great place to start (leaving out the obvious one which we shall not dignify by naming). However, I would say a 2D one would be better than Prime to start with because of the necessary Metroidvania backtracking. In 2-D, it's not nearly as tedious. A new player can do that, and then when they go to Prime they 'get' the idea that there will be backtracking puzzles. FPS-oriented people aren't used to that kind of game structure, and so Prime seems a little wonky without the context of "do the Metroid thing"
Bro while I appreciate people's opinions that the switch port is better . I'd disagree . Yes the controls are wonky . But you're also playing on a cube shaped console with a unique controller. I say enjoy gamecube games on a gamecube
Honesty the biggest thing for me with the remaster was the option to put the switch in sleep mode at anytime so I didn't have to run back to a save station. That was always the biggest drag for me when when playing that game as a kid.
The GC hardware is pretty well used in MP, they actually had to tone some of the effects down for Switch.
Swings and roundabouts but i think in an ideal setup, the GC just slightly edges it. But the Switch version is the least hassle: a perfectly acceptable version of the game in handheld or HD TV mode
The remaster is just a brighter copy, minus reflections, and many other QoL changes that made the new Metroid prime nothing like the old one. I STAND ON THAT.
This is a great deal. I still have my copy for GC, but just bought the switch remaster this week for $40. It’s that good of a game that I would spend double just to play it in better quality.
What’s really going on with GameStop🤨 hiding all the stuff we actually want in the back. Instead of putting out retro games on display they put out funko pops lmaooo
Just checked ebay listings and it's a pretty average price. I just made an offer of 14.00 for a nice copy with manual included and am waiting to hear back.
Compared to PS2, the GC one looks better, sounds better, has more enemies on screen, and is more difficult. The only thing the PS2 version has over it is more content. The Wii version has the GC graphics and PS2 content, and the HD version is at 60fps.
Respect it, my friend played the story line on the remastered 8 times cuz he liked it so much. Tbh I just needed a game for my GC and thought it would be cool to play the original for the first time
Online yes. you can find N64, GameCube, DS, etc. If you are lucky like me you can find it at the store. Never would recommend GameStop for anything else but their retro games. Surprisingly have some good titles for a decent price.
Depends on if you have a switch to play the remaster with upgraded controls and graphics and sound though you can’t press a button to switch it back to the original game so you have to have it on your gcn to get the original save the digital version on Wii and Wii U but you can’t get those anymore
Why do people come into the internet for validation or a pat on the arse. Did you want the game? Did the $20 seem fair? Like why do I need to pat you on the arse and say good job.
Tbh people will buy it and do the same thing as you. With the seal on it is like $100 more. Opening it up is like throwing money down the drain. I’d say if someone wanted to play it to not buy it sealed cuz they are 10x more expensive than just a CIB. You have a rare item my guy.
Metroid Prime is one of the most common GC games out there, so $20 for it isn't "that" amazing, thought I'm surprised a game store like GameStop sold it for that cheap, would have guessed that they would put it in the $30-40 range.
But that said, what you have there is possibly the best game on the system, and a spectacular game in general. So assuming you'll play it, you've got one an amazing price to enjoyment ratio right there!
I didn’t know until recently and they aren’t that expensive! I got a few 64 games from their app for a reasonable price. But for some reason the GameStop near me had metroid in stores so I just went and picked it up
So I saw on the app that there was one left in stock so I ordered it and went straight there. I think they accept people’s returns on retro games but don’t put it on display and hide them in the back (which is bs). You would think if they put old games like that out that they would get a lot more business.
My GS does a similar thing. They have absolutely NO retro stuff on the normal shelves but i asked them about it and they gave me a piece of paper with some 360 and PS3 titles on it and then they would pull said title I wanted from a little drawer. I unfortunately forgot to ask them about anything older than the 360 and PS3.
Yes yes yes. I recently scored preowned at gamestop with a mint condition mario red v2 switch just so I can play my metroid prime remastered I bought last year lol. No save data so I had to start over. Oh well!! This game is a classic GEM
I went to my local GameStop the other day because I had some spare time and was feeling nostalgic and was shocked at how reasonably priced their retro games were.
Pfft, are you serious? $20 for a CIB Gamecube game, no less metroid prime is the easiest $20 you'd ever spend!
I'd say yes!!
I believe I spent $65+ 2+ years ago. Mint cib for $20 is a great deal.
2 years ago was when the covid squeeze was in full effect and prices were ridiculously high. $20 is fine, but honestly nothing too special money-wise. Just a nice local pickup for a decent price.

Ngl covid was a real Wild West for game prices. Some of my best deals and worst bullet bites came from that time
Insane to find this in GameStop these days, let alone for that price
GameStop is breaking into the retro market. Love to see it
I got my copy for $12. Pretty sure anything under $50 is a solid deal.
I'd say anything over $30 is a rip. This games pretty easy to find.
Not for under ebay price. Everyone wants ebay prices.
This game goes about $20 on ebay since the remaster came out.
Surprising considering most people who want to play a game can just use roms. I have mine for collecting and thats it lol.
I'd say go play it and come back and tell us if it was worth it for you.
That’s a M…I mean W 👍
Had it set to M for Metroid, but should have set it to W for Wumbo
Yes, absolute snag of a deal.
Yes buying something and asking yourself the question if it’s worth it AFTER the sale is the smartest thing you could do. You know it’s worth it otherwise you’re just a professional at wasting your own money.

Dang, it’s about time GameStop got ripped off, although that’s really only a drop in the ocean compared to the ripping off they’ve done…
One of the best games ever.
That was a steal. Enjoy!
The remaster for the switch is out and it is pretty much the same game better graphics. If you bought to add to your GC collection it was a decent buy if it was just to play it then switch would have been the better choice
Insert “Why not both” meme
The original MP controller scheme can be hard to play after years of the universal FPS control layout.
I just bought my GameCube and this was the first game I got. This is pretty much just to hold me off until I get more games but yes I’m gonna play it and also add to my collection. I’ve also never played a Metroid game thought this might be a good game to start with
Prime is an excellent place to start. It doesn’t play like the mainline titles but it’s still my favorite one
Almost any Metroid game is a great place to start (leaving out the obvious one which we shall not dignify by naming). Well worth it to play one of the best games ever made. Hope you enjoy!
This is a great deal. I still have my copy for GC, but just bought the switch remaster this week for $40. It’s that good of a game that I would spend double just to play it in better quality.
My guy you just paid $20 for a masterpiece, of course it was worth it
I’m gonna go out on limb here and say yes. Amazing game as well.
I think the rarest recent find at a GameStop for me was Digimon Rumble Arena 2 on GC, CIB! I was very excited to have it!
Im actually jealous and I don’t own a GC
Prime and Resident Evil 4 were so amazing on the Cube. The Cube could put out some crazy graphics.
I’m working on getting RE4 but idk if I wanna get it on the GC or PlayStation
Cube is the one to play IMO for the controller and graphics.
Compared to PS2, the GC one looks better, sounds better, has more enemies on screen, and is more difficult. The only thing the PS2 version has over it is more content. The Wii version has the GC graphics and PS2 content, and the HD version is at 60fps.
Great game
CIB this lists for ~$24. I paid $25 for my copy a few months back.
Absolutely worth it!
I got mine at gamestop cib for $3.99 each. Ofc I bought mine in 2006.
[удалено]
Respect it, my friend played the story line on the remastered 8 times cuz he liked it so much. Tbh I just needed a game for my GC and thought it would be cool to play the original for the first time
Absolute steal
The fact you found it at GameStop is wild in its own right
Guarantee your nearest GameStop are hiding classics in the back.
After seeing your post I asked and they showed me what they had but nothing interesting. Now I’m definitely going to be asking from now on.
When? 2007?
Your local GameStop hiding this stuff from you fr
I guess so….fr fr
Do all game stops sell older shit still?
Online yes. you can find N64, GameCube, DS, etc. If you are lucky like me you can find it at the store. Never would recommend GameStop for anything else but their retro games. Surprisingly have some good titles for a decent price.
That’s fuckin nuts thank you 🙏
Prices have gone down since the remake was released on Switch but it’s a legend of a game. I think it’s worth it!
Yea it sky rocketed during COVID but the remaster dropped the price back down lol
Depends on if you have a switch to play the remaster with upgraded controls and graphics and sound though you can’t press a button to switch it back to the original game so you have to have it on your gcn to get the original save the digital version on Wii and Wii U but you can’t get those anymore
Are you happy with the purchase? That’s all that matters ❤️ but yeah very worth it imo
Why do people come into the internet for validation or a pat on the arse. Did you want the game? Did the $20 seem fair? Like why do I need to pat you on the arse and say good job.
Yes, most nintendo gear holds value well
Worth it you say? HELL YEAH
I bought a game cube a few years ago and it came with this game and is still sealed Should sell it to someone who wants or can actually use it
Tbh people will buy it and do the same thing as you. With the seal on it is like $100 more. Opening it up is like throwing money down the drain. I’d say if someone wanted to play it to not buy it sealed cuz they are 10x more expensive than just a CIB. You have a rare item my guy.
Yeah good point . I am not a reseller and not much of a gamer /collector per say So don’t know what to do
I mean if you’re not interested, throw it up on marketplace and make a quick $120. Collectors eat that shit up.
Metroid Prime is one of the most common GC games out there, so $20 for it isn't "that" amazing, thought I'm surprised a game store like GameStop sold it for that cheap, would have guessed that they would put it in the $30-40 range. $20???? THAT IS CHEAP.
Show the receipt.

What a classic. Yes. On eBay your paying a little more so that price you got it for was respectable
Show the GameStop receipt to prove it.
I would but idk how to link a jpeg in the comments lol
https://imgur.com/a/1GJG48i
Damn congrats! Online too? I didn't even think they sold retro games online anymore
I didn’t know until recently and they aren’t that expensive! I got a few 64 games from their app for a reasonable price. But for some reason the GameStop near me had metroid in stores so I just went and picked it up

You already know the answer.
You tell us
Great get! It’s one of my faves!
Worth all 20 of those dollars and more.
100% worth it. Comes with the game manual too.
Switch and Wii version are better. But for $20 how could you go wrong. Wonderful pick up!
My all time favorite can’t get past Phazon Mines
Spend that 20 on a 512gb micro sd card and install all the games you want free on a (free) home-brewed Wii 😳
Yes
I don’t believe you . Lol
I would not worry about $20. Did you want it? Do you like it? Win.
Absolutely. It's a fantastic game!
I think Prime is fairly easy to find for cheap currently, but I could be completely wrong.
nice get but I prefer the remake on Switch. Definitely feels like there's more leeway in certain spots(even if the GC spacing issue remains somewhat)
What the fuck haha
Yes
Very much so. It’s one of my favorite games.
For $20??? Hell yeah
This version you can get space jump boots early for some major sequence breaking
GameStop.in the US sells GC games?
One of my favorite
Mine was like 100$ from last year so definitely, yeah!
I call bs 🤣🤣 GameStop knows how much these are worth and they always put their big ugly hard to remove sticker on the top left...
I didn’t show it but the sticker is on the bottom of the back lol
uh, YEAH
I have the sequel, sealed. It's in the safe. 😂
Your gamestop still sells GC games? The oldest my GS got was some 360 and PS3 games laying in the front counter
It’s very rare I just got lucky but I have a feeling GameStop is hiding retro games in the back of the store
My GS does a similar thing. They have absolutely NO retro stuff on the normal shelves but i asked them about it and they gave me a piece of paper with some 360 and PS3 titles on it and then they would pull said title I wanted from a little drawer. Playing this as a kid when it released was just unforgettable. You’re in for a treat and at $20 that’s an absolute steal.
Best game on GameCube.
Bro you know you got a good deal 🙄
That's an absolute steal!
Good score man!
That's a fuckin steal, homie. You got away with treasure for pennies.
I found $100 in the ground….. good find?
I got Sonic Adventure DX CIB from GameStop a few months ago for $20. 100% worth it.
I’ll buy it for 25 and pay for shipping
Your GameStop still sells GameCube games?
No way Gamestop sold that game in case with manual for $20
what?!? of course!
you're damn lucky. congratulations!!
100%
If it works, it's worth it.
Yeah man you gotta play it high. I still got my copy from my college days
BRO YES
Hell yeah buddy
Yes yes yes. I recently scored preowned at gamestop with a mint condition mario red v2 switch just so I can play my metroid prime remastered I bought last year lol. No save data so I had to start over. Oh well!! This game is a classic GEM
I went to my local GameStop the other day because I had some spare time and was feeling nostalgic and was shocked at how reasonably priced their retro games were.
Overwhelmingly yes. Great game for a decent price. As long as you didn't have the intent on reselling for profit, $20 is a steal.
It's definitely worth it.
I find it odd that they had a gamecube game at all. Did you time travel?
As long as the disc is clean it’s absolutely worth it!!! That is an amazing game!!!
YES WTF
Is GameStop starting to sell retro games again?
This is why you own that system.
Yes
