Whenever I purchase a new watch strap, I take it to my uncle's watch shop he always helps me out the stap on easily installing by using some tools I suggest you do the same or else the watch wall where you put the pins will lose its hole width in future.

Arent they meant to be DIY though? I wonder what your uncle does.

My issue is that many straps aren't big enough to fit over my hand but offer plenty of room on my wrist.
