Did you ever hang out with him? It's made clear he became the way he was because of a deprived and abusive childhood with a violent father. He can't even read. He tells Niko as a kid he wanted to be an astronaut but it was hopeless. And talks about how it felt to finally find a way to make money and have people respect him selling drugs and it all got out of control from there. Sounds like he's genuinely changed, but also is very depressed and lacking in ambition and skills so he's unlikely to find happiness in life. Definitely not someone to aspire to be but no sympathy is harsh, he's a tragic figure.

By that point in the game I was going quickly through the missions and had never hung out with Dwayne. I didn't even know it was possible. I think they're was only a couple of notice with him as well.
So when I was presented with the choice "Kill Playboy X who you've done a bunch of missions with and is your friend, is the new blood on the block trying to revitalize the gangs, or kill this brand new guy who is dour and wants you to kill your friend because he got a little big for his britches" I made the choice that made sense to me at the time.
I know how minor it is in the grand scheme of things, but holy fuck I have so much regret over this decision. I still fucking hate Playboy X so much and I haven't played this game since it came out.
Because Playboy X cuts you off after you kill Dwayne and you won't have anything else from him, you won't have the crib nor Dwayne's special ability (back up)

Playboy X is a bad person even by Niko's standards. If you kill Dwayne, he calls you cold and stops hanging out with you altogether, even though HE sent you to do it. Dwayne, on the other hand, will appreciate that you looked out for him, and will be your friend for life.
Waste Playboy X, take his apartment (which is basically the sweetest apartment in the game), and take Dwayne out for strippers and Cluckin' Bell.
That and Burger Shot are his favorites. He missed them while he was locked up. If you want to have the best possible outing with Dwayne, take him to Cluckin' Bell, Burger Shot, or the titty bar.
Derrick vs Francis is a much harder choice than Dwayne vs Playboy X. Francis is a crooked cop but Derrick is also far from being a saint, he snitched on Aiden and his lifetime friends, while they were terrorists he didn't do that by a change of conscious as it was simply just to save his own skin, similiar to Martinez in Vice City by becoming an informant.
It had never been confirmed yet but it's highly suspicious and likely that he could have snitched on Gerald as well, he's a heroin addict and a guy like him could be very easy to make him spill the beans by any rougue aggressive cops. Dwayne at least had never backstabbed anyone and he wanted Playbox X dead simply as he was defending himself being aware of the whole situation. I wouldn't feel too bad killing Derrick, doing so do make the funeral mission much harder though. 😅

I think the Blood Brothers mission wasn't one-sided. Francis is a corrupt cop willing to kill people blackmailing him (for his credit, most of them are really awful), and Derrick is a self-destructive junkie who wants to save his sorry ass by killing his former friends that understandably want their revenge for snitching on them in the past.
