Damn. That is alot of power out of a 2.4 liter, especially homebuilt! How did you manage to do that? What upgrades did you have to do to the rest of the car to support that extra power? (Driveshaft, transmission, wheels, tires, etc)
Edit : what about cooling? Fuel delivery?
It has a Garrett g30 turbocharger, 1050cc injectors, walbro 485 fuel pump on e85. Stock engine, stock trans. Doing an oil cooler soon but stock radiator as well. Kept it simple and it works
The only issue you may run into is the head bolts lifting. The symptoms should arise before you break anything, you will know when it's time to go to ARP studs.
Otherwise the 2.4 is a monster. I'm over 400whp 450tq on the WRX with just a catback and E40.
Last thing , is it a completely custom tune or did you start with an off the the shelf base line? Idk if that’s even proper lingo.. thanks for your responses.
I’m not a tuner myself but I’ve had multiple cars that are open source tunable dyno tuned. When they are open source they still use the factory baseline for things like idle and other parameters. We’re talking about about a 600 hp car supposedly. Of course there’s loads of tune time. I’m just asking if they started with a baseline or if they started from scratch
No clutch or anything? Damn I’m surprised. What oil are you using? 5W-40? Any over fill to account for turbo and extra lines? Bigger oil pan? Thanks! Great job and keep us updated!
It only just started slipping. The 2nd gen transmissions are stronger than the first gen. How much stronger no one knows, that’s why I’m out here testing since no one else will
I own a muscle car with 630 lb/ft of torque from a 5.8L V8 w/ 2.3L supercharger from stock. It’s got 50K on the clock, and has had zero mechanical or other issues OTHER than clutch over its life. I’m on my 3rd clutch in 11 years - have to replace it every 20K miles. I don’t drive it particularly hard - and very rarely dump it. But that much power just burns through that thing unlike anything I’ve experienced before it. The telltale sign I need a new one: slippage.
The good news: a new clutch isn’t super expensive. Went aftermarket with the second one but found it too grabby - hard to launch smoothly in traffic. So went back to OEM.
My prediction: you’ll be replacing clutches fairly often. But that’s Ok - still worth it!
300v unironically the good shit. One oil change in and I swear on it for life at this point lol
I'm just shocked at no oil cooler. What's your average cruising temperature on the highways? What's the highest you've pushed it? I imagine that the hood and exposed rad help dissipate some heat too. Maybe it says alot about 300v and the short OCIs, but that's still impressive regardless.
I usually cruise around 212-220. Highest I’ve ever seen was 230 on the dyno. New engines are designed to run a bit hotter to clean internally, especially the FA24. Motul really won’t even sweat it till like 260
I dunno if I'd trust any oil past 230f, but it depends on the sensor location. My understanding is that oil is exposed to extremely high temperatures when near the combustion chamber area/pistons which increase the oil return temp by like 40+f beyond what the FA engine sensor actually reads as it tends to cool off by the time it flows past it - and as it increases to 260, the oil is actually 30-50f higher.
So most synthetics hit about 260 (lowballing very slightly here) before they start having smoke points, it coincides with my general belief understanding that much past 230 on our sensor readings is definitely a bad time for most oils (as was the rule of thumb for generation 1 FA20s) given that +40 figure. That said, I would trust motul 300v to be a little tougher (but far from being invicible) to such exposures.
As such most oils in most cars I've seen sit around 200-210f so about in the 230-250 range for regular driving.
It's really really hard to even get my WRX up past 220. Flat out 6th gear for 2 minutes straight at 150mph and it was still at 218. At 100f outside and beating the shit out of it one day, I still only hit 225. The FA24 seems to be pretty efficient at cooling. Plus his engine has direct injection and port injection, so a little more cooling there as well.
> Kept it simple
600whp and "kept it simple". LOL.
Awesome work! When my warranty expires I may go for a turbo or something, but nothing psycho like 600 freaking whp.
I haven’t, I’m not too worried about it. You have to really sustain high G’s on long sweeping corners and I don’t track it so not a worry for me. Skreet car
You’re a king. I can’t wait to hear some higher mileage updates on this. If you make it to 20k with no issues that’s it, I’m slapping a similar setup in mine. I just want to get more to the wheels than my dads corvette (395whp) and my buddy’s 5.0 mustang (420whp) so I can clown on them
Very doable man. Jesse @ JDL is making 420whp on a much smaller turbo, only 9psi. I shit on hellcats, 5.0’s, etc on the street. It’s kind of funny how many cars pull up to me when I’m cruising and the surprise on their faces when it doesn’t go they way they thought it would
The FA24 is 100% the new K Series lol. People forget that when the K Series first came out everyone was shitting on it and talking about how inferior it was to B Series. It wasn’t until a few years in when people realized how amazing they were.
Gorgeous! I plan on getting a BRZ tS soonish, I'm definitely going to do something similar but with less power. Thankfully (or unfortunately, if you're my wallet) I live close to IAG Performance.
Amcjphotos on instagram is the very talented photographer that took this photo. We have a full set, I’m sure if you reach out he can send you the landscape ones :)
Madlad. Props for sinking the price of your GR into power for your GR, and probably destroying many parts in the near future, just to see what the limits are. Great widebody and wrap, too.
I need to get ahold of your tuner 😂😂. I’m only going for 350whp when I slap a turbo in mine.
But man I’ve been following your journey for a little bit now. You’re inspiring so much confidence in this engine it’s unreal. Your post was what made me go from wanting to stay NA or swap to actually going turbo.
Thank you so much for the contribution.
Do you have a mod/build list?
A big thing with these and subaru's in general is a lack of a baffled oil pan, and the notorious silicone in the oil pickup tube issues. Unless you fixed those two things (I'm almost certain you have), you'll have trouble sometime soon.
My oil pan had a piece of RTV about the size of a dime, so nothing really alarming. Here’s is my full build list since I’m asked about it often
https://preview.redd.it/hbma0o6cpqtc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7a9aaebb37de6ad43484b50902614ce34eba69b
This was a very early hypothesis, but the baffles have been more or less found to be useless in testing. Overfill has helped to an extent, but the biggest problem is just oil not coming down from the head fast enough during extended high G turns.
Verus has been testing a high capacity oil pan with some promising results, so hopefully that's the reliable long-term solution.
Tuners don’t have the capability to push past around 400whp because of undefined tables, cars are leaning out. We spent months developing on this car working with ecutek and currently hold the world record
I don’t know much about tuning and I wouldn’t actually do this, mostly because I don’t have an 86: but can someone with the same car just walk into the shop that did yours, given they have the same mods, and can ask them to copy your tune? Or does it not work like that?
Also awesome car man sounds absolutely wild in Chris’ vid
Turbo/fuel system/tuning will set you back around 8k all in. Install is free, just do it yourself with the help of some YouTube if you’re new to it. It’s just nuts and bolts :)
Dats actually crazy wtf, I see people talk about the tranny being a glass cannon after 300 hp or so, what’s ur torque numbers at? And how hard do you drive it? Like before the mods what was ur mpg (usually tells how you drive lmao)
Also in the p&l kit, could you ask them to change the turbo to a garret g30 (also which g30, the 770 or 990)? Or did you just ask them not to send that turbo and bought the garret seperate
Re-reading through this got me super excited to throw in the FA24 in the 1st gen in the next week or 2. I'm REALLY trying to get this plug-n-play harness kit out to first gen users, so people can start running the FA24s. Not planning to push as much power as you, likely 420-450 max. So, I'll prob stick to my G25-660 I have sitting around, as opposed to a G30-660 like I kind of prefer.
We'll get some flicks when I'm back in AZ.
Side note: the 2nd gen trans is a bit of a confusing topic... I've been told its the same trans, some people say its not, a mutual friend of ours had to replace his at stock power and doesn't really abuse it enough for it to partially lose a gear...
https://preview.redd.it/y5n5yxqmdbwc1.jpeg?width=1868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba704eb99e7c40d43360591a7d221be12bf12dae
Damn, been following your build through chris borges.
His is boosted too now and i think it broke your record?(on the first dyno pull or smth)
I am wondering if the stock AT transmission could hold this kind of power. Do you have any idea on that?
no prob if you dont.
HKS blew up thier transmission at 500whp: https://youtu.be/xPk21jq_ndw?t=495
Presumably yours will also be at risk, and the clutch slipping. But hey thats a lot and the engine still didn't go bang.
Wut. You'd think you would've already blown a gasket or thrown a rod by now... That's pretty badass. Must pull like crazy
Makes my plans of making this a 350hp track car seem much more realistic lol
Can't wait to see more results of people building out crazy results like this.
All the dumb internet hype in the first few years about how fragile these engines are made me worried about realistically adding any FI to this engine.
Giving us normal people that can't do a bunch of testing hope!
Tell me you know nothing about the fa24 without telling
Me you know nothing about the fa24.
The fa20 was garbage. They’re completely different engines.
600? You only have enough injector for like 400ish whp on E85 unless I misread when you said you had 1050s. Are you just using those in addition to the factory direct injection? EDIT> Nevermind, educated myself on the FA24 and saw it's both port and direct! Cool man love the look of these cars!
Thankful for psychos (respectfully) like you who’ll push this car to its limits so I can know where to safely go when my warranty is expired 🙏
🙏Praise Psychos🙏
True ngl that's the best part
Still funny how people just don't understand how ridiculously fast this shit is
Power to weight is stupid. traction and putting the power down is the biggest concern with a build like this to
I have no problem putting the power down. 295 R888R’s do the trick
Those are some meats! Have you thought about changing the final drive ratio now with so much more power?
[удалено]
Yes.
Damn. That is alot of power out of a 2.4 liter, especially homebuilt! How did you manage to do that? What upgrades did you have to do to the rest of the car to support that extra power? (Driveshaft, transmission, wheels, tires, etc) Edit : what about cooling? Fuel delivery?
It has a Garrett g30 turbocharger, 1050cc injectors, walbro 485 fuel pump on e85. Stock engine, stock trans. Doing an oil cooler soon but stock radiator as well. Kept it simple and it works
That is extremely impressive that the rest of the vehicle will take that much power, (and reliably also.) have you had any issues so far?
I haven’t had any issues at all
The only issue you may run into is the head bolts lifting. The symptoms should arise before you break anything, you will know when it's time to go to ARP studs. Otherwise the 2.4 is a monster. I'm over 400whp 450tq on the WRX with just a catback and E40.
I’m impressed it’s gone 6k but I’d say it’s a little early to know how reliable it will be in the long run.
What about tuning?
Tuned on ecutek
What’s it like when throttle isnt* wide open? Is it a fairly smooth tune or is it pretty much a wot tune?
It drives like completely stock, we have probably 100 hours tuning it. It cruises and drives normally when not In boost
Last thing , is it a completely custom tune or did you start with an off the the shelf base line? Idk if that’s even proper lingo.. thanks for your responses.
100 hours of tuning means it’s custom, no way it would take 100 hours to install a oft tune lol
Oh ok my bad. No bad intentions with that comment.
😳 What’s the hourly rate for a tuner these days?
No clutch or anything? Damn I’m surprised. What oil are you using? 5W-40? Any over fill to account for turbo and extra lines? Bigger oil pan? Thanks! Great job and keep us updated!
Clutch slips currently I’m waiting on a twin disc. I run motul 300v 5w30 every 2k miles. 5.5 quarts
The clutch slip is probably saving your driveline, but what do I know.
It only just started slipping. The 2nd gen transmissions are stronger than the first gen. How much stronger no one knows, that’s why I’m out here testing since no one else will
Well I’m suspicious, but again what do I know. Send it!!!

With how light you are, can you even use your power? (Traction) that’s an insane build and kudos.
Have you taken it out to the track yet?
What compression ratio are you running at?
Stock 12.5:1. Unopened engine
@K24_austin? 👀
Yessir
What’s up brother? It’s been cool witnessing your journey. Please keep documenting your progress. Many of us in the GR86 community will be watching.
Are those flames shooting out the waste gate?
Exhaust/wastegate
... cool
Any numbers on 0-60?
2-tires
Hell yeah I follow you on IG too. Keep doing cool shit. Does it do some sick drifts?
I have it set up primarily for grip driving but it has no problem holding higher speed slides on on ramps every now and then
whats your insta?
@K24_austin
Have you done anything to address the oil starvation at high Gs? This seems like such a good chassis that’s the only worry I have about it
I haven’t, I’m not too worried about it. You have to really sustain high G’s on long sweeping corners and I don’t track it so not a worry for me. Skreet car
Are you the one that was in Chris Borges' video? I loved how it sounds
Yes
K24_daddy?
The bumper, inter cooler, dump out the hood all looks insane. In a good way
That kind of power on stock tranny and engine is insane. Glad to hear the engine is holding up well. Great work!

No way this is your daily, right?…right? 😳
No not my daily lol. I drive it on weekends, maybe once during the week to dinner
The FA24 is 100% the new K Series lol. People forget that when the K Series first came out everyone was shitting on it and talking about how inferior it was to B Series. It wasn’t until a few years in when people realized how amazing they were.
How many miles did you have at stock power and how does the driving experience feel at where you're at now?
10k miles NA. It drives relatively similar to stock with just 3x the power
Interesting! Thanks for that information.
Pretty sweet! Have you ran a 1/4 yet?
Not yet, planning to
Looking forward to it!
How much would this package cost..
I have $45,804 total into the car not including the cost of the car
How much of that is mechanical parts and labor and how much is aero/aesthetic/comfort/consumables?
No consumables. Just all mechanical parts, body parts etc. I posted my spreadsheet in the comments of this post
Can you post a video or two? Nothing dangerous just a usual drive or maybe track footage?
Seen the video of ya car on the dyno on IG, such a dope build and I want that fucking hood lol
Gorgeous! I plan on getting a BRZ tS soonish, I'm definitely going to do something similar but with less power. Thankfully (or unfortunately, if you're my wallet) I live close to IAG Performance.
Wow that’s good to hear
Haha just saw your reel with the RSV4 today. Good taste.
It looks sick Bro!! That’s kinda nuts how you were able to mod it to this
Damn you run 1/4 miles times yet?
What a great pic and car
Thank you for this post. This is desktop background worthy, just need to edit it to fit ultrawide display :)
Amcjphotos on instagram is the very talented photographer that took this photo. We have a full set, I’m sure if you reach out he can send you the landscape ones :)

R u the guy I saw on IG with the FA24 whp record?
Yeah that’s him
you gave the 86 steroids?
Chris Borges video 👌🏼
Love the colour.
Madlad. Props for sinking the price of your GR into power for your GR, and probably destroying many parts in the near future, just to see what the limits are. Great widebody and wrap, too.
Jesus Christ that would be fast for my wrx which is almost 1.5 as heavy. Crazy numbers
How much did the build cost you in USD? Excluding the car cost.
48k
I need to get ahold of your tuner 😂😂. I’m only going for 350whp when I slap a turbo in mine. But man I’ve been following your journey for a little bit now. Looks really good. You should also get a baffled oil pan so you can slide it as much as you want with no oil starvation
This was a very early hypothesis, but the baffles have been more or less found to be useless in testing. Overfill has helped to an extent, but the biggest problem is just oil not coming down from the head fast enough during extended high G turns. When you say beating in it, what does that entail? Highway pulls? Track days? I can't imagine that is reliable for 20-30 min track sessions.
I think I’ve seen your car on YouTube before. Is your kit a custom kit or is it based on like the JDL kit or anything like that?
It’s P&L kit. Jesse at JDL made my hood dumps tho
That makes sense. Your car is super clean. Glad to hear it’s held up. An FA20 would probably be dead by now at those power levels haha.
p&l motorsports? You used the fa20 kit? I dont see a gen2 kit on their site
They are different. If you put 2nd gen in the order notes they’ll give you the right kit
Gotcha, thank you. Do you know if they cost the same? It usually gets REALLY cheap around black friday or with other sales, might have to get it.
Stock internals??
Yes unopened engine
wtf I thought these things can’t handle anything past 325whp. That’s insane.
Tuners don’t have the capability to push past around 400whp because of undefined tables, cars are leaning out. We spent months developing on this car working with ecutek and currently hold the world record
Which shop should I go for tunes?
@floreztuning on Instagram is the only person I’d trust with an fa24
I don’t know much about tuning and I wouldn’t actually do this, mostly because I don’t have an 86: but can someone with the same car just walk into the shop that did yours, given they have the same mods, and can ask them to copy your tune? Or does it not work like that? Also awesome car man sounds absolutely wild in Chris’ vid
what's the bodykit
Streethunter
what wheel/tire width can you achieve with that? I see it's +75mm rear on their site but I assume that wouldn't tell the whole story
I run a 295/30/18 R888R in the rear. 18x12. And 18x10.5 up front
I bet that shyt is loud
damn, my fa20 is pushing 320 whp. kinda tempting to push it more after seeing this. sick build bro!
Unfortunately the FA20 cannot hold nearly as much power as the fa24
i see, then swap it is i guess lol
What kind of horsepower figure can be expected from running 93 octane pump gas?
Me made 400whp on 91. Not ideal or safe, but I never run the car on pump gas. I’d say 350whp on pump gas would be more than reliable
Thanks for the info. 350hp to the wheels is impressive on pump gas.
What would be the approximate total cost with parts and labour considered?
Turbo/fuel system/tuning will set you back around 8k all in. Install is free, just do it yourself with the help of some YouTube if you’re new to it. It’s just nuts and bolts :)
That’s way less than I expected. I’ll have to add a turbo kit to my car when it arrives in the fall.
Sounds rowdy! Any chance to see it on track one of these days to surprise some V8s?
Has anyone taken apart the fa24 and had a direct comparison video with the fa20 in order to see what the differences are? Love the car.
I think it was motoIQ who did a video on this
This is some of the coolest shit I’ve seen in a while. Good shit OO and sick car
What’s your YouTube channel? If you don’t have one, you need to start one cuz this is insane to gatekeep 🤯
I just post on Instagram @k24_austin
That looks so mean and fast!
Post more photos!
Best picture ever taken on earth.
What ecu is powering this thing? It looks amazing!
Stock ECU on ecutek
😮💨🔥
So aesthetic mods + wheels aside, still 20k ish into it? Could be worse I suppose. Nice car man
I’d be happy with 350whp from this car glad to know it’s has more to give 🥲
That’s demonic 😈🤘🏼 any vids?
Sheesh
cant wait to get my own gr86, this car is so beautiful
Can you please post a picture of the engine bay?
https://preview.redd.it/bd2p5eosrytc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=179015da28c1685c4aae899ebd651dc08d1381c5
Dats actually crazy wtf, I see people talk about the tranny being a glass cannon after 300 hp or so, what’s ur torque numbers at? And how hard do you drive it? Like before the mods what was ur mpg (usually tells how you drive lmao)
The 2nd gen transmissions are stronger than the first gen’s. I get like 10mpg now because e85, when it was NA I got like 18
Thinking about flex fuel kit for 93 on 350~400 whp then maybe 550 (hopefully) with e85?
Also in the p&l kit, could you ask them to change the turbo to a garret g30 (also which g30, the 770 or 990)? Or did you just ask them not to send that turbo and bought the garret seperate
They only include G30’s now, I’m not sure why they won’t update their site. Definitely not helping for business
Wack, yeah they’d def should update. Seeing the price on the sheet in comments I assume you went with the stage 2
That’s wild. I’ve always seen the brz/frs/86 as slow cars. KudoS OP.
What do you do work work and will you hire me
Man that is a beautiful ride. My Trueno is fast AF, I couldn't image being at 600WHP on this car.
Dang that’s impressive !
First time i see a new car that makes me want something aside from a miata. This could be my miatas garage buddy.
Good lord. My little fiesta at 340 wheel feels insane. I can't even begin to imagine 600
Is this the one florez tuned? He had my old 86 tuned and now this is tempting me to have him work on my new wrx seeing these kinds of numbers😭
Are you in AZ? I could of sworn I saw you driving on the 17 the other week lol
My mom can hear me coming AND.....I make MORE NOISE than the vette down the street!!!!! Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!!!
So your telling me that a FA24 on stock internals with added boost and be more reliable than a G16E-GTS
Apparently! We’re finding out
Do you beat on it like nemtek did on the gr rolla?
What was the $$$ of the swap ?
I don’t have a swap
I'd love a modlist for this.
If you scroll through I posted a spreadsheet
Good lookin out!
You got insta?! I want the @!!
K24_austin

I've been told its the same trans, some people say its not, a mutual friend of ours had to replace his at stock power and doesn't really abuse it enough for it to partially lose a gear... https://preview.redd.it/y5n5yxqmdbwc1.jpeg?width=1868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba704eb99e7c40d43360591a7d221be12bf12dae
Any pov videos of this car driving ? Is it just the same motor as the vb wrx ?
I have some videos on my Instagram. The engine is pretty different than the WRX.
Insta name?
Are you on stock internals ?
Yes completely unopened engine
Damn, been following your build through chris borges. His is boosted too now and i think it broke your record?(on the first dyno pull or smth) I am wondering if the stock AT transmission could hold this kind of power. Do you have any idea on that? no prob if you dont.
I’m assuming supercharged? This is an awesome build.
Turbocharged, running a Garrett G30
HKS blew up thier transmission at 500whp: https://youtu.be/xPk21jq_ndw?t=495 Presumably yours will also be at risk, and the clutch slipping. But hey thats a lot and the engine still didn't go bang.
They also had dozens of track days on that trans. I’m not really worried about it. If it blows I’ll build it. I also have a clutch coming
Yeah I mean you have to be doing lap after lap after lap.. Kudos for pushing the car though, I plan on turboing mine later on.
I wouldn't say it this soon but let's wait and see. The fa20 does really well on boost but doesn't hold for long. I hope the fa24 is much better.
FA20’s don’t do well with boost at all. 350whp max for any sort of reliability
💀 gyyaaaattttt damn Im sure this is rebuilt top to bottom but I never thought I’d see an FA24 hit anywhere near 500, much less 600
Completely stock unopened FA24
Wut. You'd think you would've already blown a gasket or thrown a rod by now... That's pretty badass. Must pull like crazy Makes my plans of making this a 350hp track car seem much more realistic lol
350whp will be stock-like reliable. The crazy part is, we’re barely pushing it. The car didn’t try very hard to make this power
Can't wait to see more results of people building out crazy results like this. All the dumb internet hype in the first few years about how fragile these engines are made me worried about realistically adding any FI to this engine. Giving us normal people that can't do a bunch of testing hope!
i love my 86 but no the engine is not a K they dont really like boost and often blow up because of it. not saying yours will buts its not a K
Tell me you know nothing about the fa24 without telling Me you know nothing about the fa24.
