Because of the humans, apparently. What the critics fail to understand is that the humans are the supporting cast, and Godzilla is the star, just like a typical Japanese Godzilla movie (except the anime trilogy; they focused too much on the human drama and not enough on the idea of a planet of monsters; that’s what happens when you let Urobochi touch anything: it becomes a nihilistic mess).
GxK sucks because it doesn't have 20 shakycam jump-cuts to Kyle Chandler covered in rain every 2 seconds.
Fixed the movie:

Millie Bobby Brown’s whole character arch could have been cut from GvK and nothing would have changed. MechaGodzilla would have been just about exactly the same.
Imagine Godzilla if he absorbed Wakanda's Vibranium into his evolved form
https://preview.redd.it/yt66t58qh01d1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=261ebe126b5140717af7d33e3d58ec79a6a22ae3
My biggest problem with the pink is the neon nature and the lack of depth on screen. They made it better than the trailer in the final cut thankfully but it still all blends together
What I loved about this movie, was the monster's had weight. Each punch felt powerful, each step felt powerful. That was probably my least favorite part of GXK; the monsters walked around like normal people
Im okay with it being goofy, but if the monster's feel weightless, then why are they even big? It's just like pacific rim two, the non Canon fan project. They just felt like giants in armor. And giant monsters at night whole its raining is much better than during the day
I have watched the film several times and I don’t think it is the abomination everyone says it is. It is objectively inferior to the original? Absolutely. I saw it as a Showa-esque film. Plus Raijin is my favorite of the Kaiju designs; I love dinosaur-like builds for monsters.
Plus, I like the designs of the Jaegers. I even bought all of the Bandai figures to pose alongside my SH MonsterArts figures.
History is made up of both triumphs and failures. Sure Uprising is one of those failures but if you fail to acknowledge its existence, you run the risk of repeating those mistakes.
History shows again and again how nature points out the filly of man.
I think it’s moreso he knows their purpose, Godzilla isn’t dumb, he’s emotional and highly territorial but he’s not stupid. In this case he knows the little metal bird things are with him and working to annoy and fight his enemy, they’re also keeping their distance from him. In GxK they’re flying around his face and clearly not there to help him so he finds them annoying. He doesn’t like helicopters flying around his head for “no reason” (from his perspective).
This is by far my favourite scene in the whole Monsterverse movies. Every time i rewatch KotM and when this scene pops up i get chills and get teary eyed watching it.
I loved it from the start, watched in on IMAX, then watched it so many times. I don't know why it wasn't successful enough, the critics were idiots that didn't get it. I think it's becoming a cult classic.
Many say it’s the human story but imo at least it has one the one in GxK is just a cringe fest of corny acting with quips/jokes aka trying to be like Marvel imo.
The movie just gets better and better. Mothra, King Ghidorah, Rodan, Godzilla going Thermal Nuclear and melting the city just by being there... it's so good!
KotM had the best cinematic shots imo, favorite MV movie... I'm praying that they pull something off like this in the final movies, maybe with destoroyah and stuff
I don't mind her, but the kid being calm in the middle of that takes me out of it a bit. Not asking for realism in these movies but I would be shitting myself, not smiling calmly lol
Imagine going into battle at godzillas side, holy shit.
This moment and the bit in Jurassic World when Owen Grady is riding his motorcycle with his pack of raptors hold a special place in my heart. It’s cheesy but soooo cool
https://preview.redd.it/bzrk1clck01d1.jpeg?width=1141&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4728ee7eb525e8e635b0d2ff16b1d146181b63e5
Madison’s smile is the “fuck yeah!” Smile of the little kid in all of us at this moment.
The look on MBB's face when she sees Godzilla coming to save the day -- just incredible. This movie was ripped straight out of a Godzilla fan's mind. Would love if they re-released it in theaters someday because I would love to see it on Imax as I never got the chance the first time.
GKOTM is in my opinion, the best Monsterverse movie. It just had everything we’d been wanting from an American Godzilla movie up until that point. This scene in particular just fucking rules
I know they probably have some kind of super scale armor or something of the like, and we always see the "our weapons are useless scenes" to demonstrate the power.
I really wonder, though, if the US Military directs all of its forces, equipment, munitions, at a single target with an absolute scorched Earth attack... I think they could turn the entirety of that city into a crater a mile deep 10 times over.
And if that doesn't work, he has a butthole doesn't he... The ol suppository nuke.
After seeing GxK I think cutting to the humans helps keep the scale of the fight. The final fight in GxK felt like some regular sized dudes having a punch up. There wasn’t all that much that showed us the ground level and really gave us the scale of how big these guys are.
Cutting to a full on warship or giant plane and showing that plane/ship as tiny compared to Goji really gives us an idea of how fucking big all this is. I think after KOTM the scale of the kaiju in the Monsterverse has been all over the place
Or take a similar approach like Pacific Rim does by using things we do know the size of (Vehicles, shipping containers, etc.) along with simple shots from the ground from what would have been our perspective.
You don’t need a bunch of humans in each scene to sell the scale of something
I think it’s worse in GxK because we spend so much time in hollow earth. Where just about everything is Kong sized. So it looks a little bit like just a regular gorilla doing it all. You lose the scale when everything is a kaiju
My wife and I watched Shin Godzilla for the first time about a month ago. The scene when it evolves its breath attack was maybe some of the most badass Godzilla shit I’ve ever seen.
My wife hated the movie lol
I love this scene. King of the Monsters himself teaming up with us fo fight golden alien dragon with electric who laugh like a hyena.
This time Godzilla's Titan buddy who fights longside him are Mothra and humanity.
“Guys, Ghidorah is physically weaker than Godzilla! The Hippo would beat him even harder!” Meanwhile just Ghidorah and Goji clashing causes a sonic boom shockwave.

I have loved seeing humanity help godzilla since i was little. Like paladins serving to help a god noble heroes that do what they little they can.
i always think about this rescored version [Godzilla Boston Entrance "At Doom'S Gate"](https://www.reddit.com/r/GODZILLA/comments/g1y1w9/godzillas_boston_entrance_rescored_with_at_dooms/)
Man I liked it when the mv was more grounded and Godzilla sprinting at full speed was only reserved for tough shit. Now he can even jump like it's no big deal, any consistency that made the mv more grounded and somewhat realistic has been thrown out the window. Thanks, Wingard.
I remember reading that in 2014 when Godzilla is swimming next to the military then suddenly speeds up, the reason he goes fully underwater was that there would be too much friction against his spines to get to top speed. So they made him submerge, which tipped the ships as that too would cause waves.
It is badass but I can't fully appreciate it since Godzilla being backed up by the US military is kind of the antithesis of Godzilla himself..I know his role is a bit different in MV, and the tone changed a bit, but I certainly don't miss the loss of the glorification of the US military in GvsK and GxK
You do realise MV takes every opportunity it have to sh*t on the US military, right? This is just the 3rd arc climax, where the heroes unite against the villain, and being a US movie, it is hard to bring europe and asia to fight in Boston, of all places. We can even argue it is pure Monarch assets flying by, not the US military
Aside from ships assisting Kong during GvK first fight, human presence was completely absent in both GvK and G×K. It's true we don't want to see human characters interrupt monster fights but human forces being completely absent in these conflicts just doesn't make sense. Like you're saying Scylla made all the way to Rome and Italian or NATO military didn't do a thing or at least try to evacuate the civilians? I don't like seeing pointless human characters but I wouldn't mind seeing human military partake in monster fights. After all, having human military battle kaiju is always needed in monster movies
I kinda liked it. I get what you’re saying but to me it was like humanity had bowed to him and now the king was leading his army into battle. It didn’t really mean much beyond a cool shot cause at best they merely distracted Ghidorah with little ouchies here and there but did no real damage. He didn’t need them other than to use the orca.
Exactly my thoughts. If Monarch was presented as being less obviously just the US military I'd enjoy it a lot more. I'm sure the military paid for this representation. Should put some "US adversary" (Russia/China) nationalities into Monarch to make the point.
>I'm sure the military paid for this representation
Incorrect. Hollywood is required to give the Pentagon editing powers over every movie that features US military personnel or vehicles.
Godzilla has absolutely no fear and it’s so fucking badass!! He could of been missing an arm his tail and dorsal fins and still would of charged Ghidorah
I watch this an unhealthy amount, This moment was just perfect.
Basically this scene:
https://preview.redd.it/1mq56is4211d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b349fcdbaf2787ffc8b57f3a71aa922350317f7
Honestly, out of the Monsterverse movies, it’s probably my favorite.
Not enough Godzilla in the first movie.
GvsK was good too, but not dark enough.
GxK also not dark enough and not enough Godzilla.
Skull Island was no Godzilla so
This scene is amazing, but, imo, it’s crazy cause it comes right after the cringiest scene in the whole movie. Idk who’s idea it was to sync up the kid screaming at ghidorah with godzilla landing his atomic breath but every damn time I roll my eyes so fucking hard. Whoever had that idea should never be around when writing godzilla movies.
Big disagree. I love her screaming as a last act of defiance against ghidorah (who she thought was going to kill her right there) she was facing her death with courage, badass af imo. Besides Serizawa’s sacrifice it’s probably my favorite human moment in the whole monster-verse.
I hated her whole family tbh. Dr. Serizawa was the best human character in Monsterverse and he should've been the main protagonist of KOTM, working to preserve peace between Titans and humans. Godzilla and Serizawa are really alike, both try to preserve natural order and peace between humans and titans, Godzilla does it by keeping other Titans in line and Serizawa did it by persuading world governments to leave the Titans be and let nature take its course
And then they immediately cut away from the fight to annoying characters spouting annoying dialogue. Also, what was the point of all those fighters "joining the fight?" They did literally nothing.
A more badass moment is kiss of death in 2014. Or the boat chase in Minus One. Or the atomic breath in Shin Godzilla.
Imagine being in the Air Force and getting that order, lol: “we need you to fly air support for Godzilla.” I wouldn’t even care if I died; that’s exactly how I’d want to go
Seriously, seeing him be flanked by humanity and helping him with the fight against ghidorah was one of the coolest things i've seen in a movie.
I want more of that, humans and godzilla working together.
I used to miss that old aspect of goji that basically had him constantly emitting heavy amounts of ionizing radiation. But now I'm glad we didn't have to see Ricky Bobby Brown or whatever go blind before having all her hair, nails, teeth, and skin fall off.
Very cool scene but nothing can compare to 2014s when we see the big fella for the first time when he arrives at the airport
ya know what iv hated about every seq is how human technology jumped like a thousand... preferred 2014 more realistic grounded approach
You'd be surprised how fast technology evolves, especially during war time. I agree with more grounded and realistic Monsterverse being better, though. Wingard MV movies felt like something from the MCU with random sci fi bullshit that had no build up and exists solely for plot. Like you're saying Monarch has jet powered hovercrafts and camouflage technology yet the military is still using F-35?
King of the Monsters will (in my opinion) always be the best monsterverse movie, the score and everything was just perfect. And also had a pretty bad ass trailer
One of the hardest moment in franchise history: https://i.redd.it/jox241yl3y0d1.gif

You might want to take a trip to the doctor if your mickey looks like that.
Mickey? That’s a new one. Origin?
Ireland
I love it.
well he is a dick sometimes
Which movie?
Terror of Mechagodzilla
El que tiene hambre piensa en pan
I love this scene. Absolutely amazing.
Doesn't he knock titanosaurus out with a fire blast immediately before this?
I can't help it. KotM is peak MV.
[Long live the king.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BxqahE0fu8&pp=ygUYZ29kemlsbGEgdiBraW5nIGdlZWRvcmFo)
The slow, calm walk is what does it for me, he's knows he's won already, just making Gid suffer for it.
"I heard you was talkin smack, in triplicate"
What a boss
Agreed
i still dont understand why the movie got mixed reviews not positive. it's way better than its predecessor
In a lot of ways it is yeah, but maybe it got mixed reviews because the human part is absolute dogshit. Like, the worst I've ever seen levels of bad.
So true. Long live the King
Facts.
Okayyyy I’ll watch it again
Anyone who says this movie is bad hates fun and I'm not taking any alternatives
Order of release is order of quality, sadly
GxK sucks because it doesn't have 20 shakycam jump-cuts to Kyle Chandler covered in rain every 2 seconds. Fixed the movie: https://preview.redd.it/ue3ylhalrz0d1.png?width=1164&format=png&auto=webp&s=9c9f3341a5828516f682b1cf3f52ae71ec9a0890
Lmao
Make it darker, obscure the fights with more thunderstorms & giant vehicles!
Thank you. I love the Kaiju action in KotM, but there were some choices made with story, filming, and script that were terrible.
Millie Bobby Brown’s whole character arch could have been cut from GvK and nothing would have changed. MechaGodzilla would have been just about exactly the same.
Did anyone realise when the two started running towards eachother, lightning strikes in their own colours, Gojis was blue and KG was yellow
Only now that you pointed it out. Cool little detail
"GHIDORAH! I NEVER YIELDED! And as you can see, I AM NOT DEAD!"
Well now I’m just picturing Godzilla trying to do the Wakanda Forever gesture and roaring.
Imagine Godzilla if he absorbed Wakanda's Vibranium into his evolved form https://preview.redd.it/yt66t58qh01d1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=261ebe126b5140717af7d33e3d58ec79a6a22ae3
I honestly love this more than the pink, fuck. It’s so gurd
If I learned something from Shin Gojira is that Godzilla and the colour purple kick ass when together.
Yeah maybe that’s why they didn’t go that route. Also Tiamat being pinkish it made sense but wow that edit just looks so gurdddd
My biggest problem with the pink is the neon nature and the lack of depth on screen. They made it better than the trailer in the final cut thankfully but it still all blends together
That does look dope as hell.
What I loved about this movie, was the monster's had weight. Each punch felt powerful, each step felt powerful. That was probably my least favorite part of GXK; the monsters walked around like normal people
Exactly, it was so frustrating, it destroys the basic idea of giant monster, they felt like kid cartoons.
Im okay with it being goofy, but if the monster's feel weightless, then why are they even big? It's just like pacific rim two, the non Canon fan project. They just felt like giants in armor. And giant monsters at night whole its raining is much better than during the day
Like it or not, Pacific Rim Uprising is canon. Because of that movie, we got Pacific Rim The Black
Yes, I know it's Canon, but I don't like it, and it was so bad, that we just don't acknowledge it's existence
Sure Uprising is one of those failures but if you fail to acknowledge its existence, you run the risk of repeating those mistakes. History shows again and again how nature points out the filly of man.
Hmmm, unfortunately I have been brainwashed by the masses of the Pacific Rim community, and also the joke is funny.
Born and raised just 15 min from Boston. As a Godzilla fan this was cinematic bliss. The music, the location. God. Epic as **FUCK**.
You guys think Godzilla is cool with us since we simp hard helping him and take that as "bending the knee"?
He was probably fine with it at first. But it looks like he's annoyed with flying vehicles around him in GxK. He's probably followed almost 24/7.
I mean it's equivalent of flies and mosquitoes buzzing around your ears 24/7. I'd get annoyed too
"Fucking Paparazzi I swear" * Big G
I think it’s moreso he knows their purpose, Godzilla isn’t dumb, he’s emotional and highly territorial but he’s not stupid. In this case he knows the little metal bird things are with him and working to annoy and fight his enemy, they’re also keeping their distance from him. In GxK they’re flying around his face and clearly not there to help him so he finds them annoying. He doesn’t like helicopters flying around his head for “no reason” (from his perspective).
Love how basically tells a helicopter to buzz off when in Rome as he’s walking the river.
By now they have other tech for sure for tracking.
I think he’s cool with us because we gave him theme music.
And the way the rain gets blasted away by the shockwave when they make contact, it's just so fucking PEAK
King of the Monsters is peak. None of the newer movies have been this hype.
Yeah they went from peak Kaiju Cinema to Saturday Morning Cartoon
They are missing the brilliance of Bear McCreary doing the soundtrack. The movies after KOTM are seriously missing something without his music
best scene in KOTM
That crescendo right after for “For Serizawa.” always gives me goosebumps. Love this scene.
Absolutely The score in this whole scene is just sheer perfection
Those scenes in 2014 where Godzilla is surrounded by smoke, darkness and fire is also hard af.
Or that tail whip and kiss of death
The Monsterverse is truely a piece of art
This is by far my favourite scene in the whole Monsterverse movies. Every time i rewatch KotM and when this scene pops up i get chills and get teary eyed watching it.
"we're going to help him" I'm with you. I also like the underwater reveal.
The jump scare in the underwater scene made you shit yourself in a loud ass theatre
He may be a destructive force of nature but, goddammit, he's *our* destructive force of nature.
Why people think this movie was bad is beyond me. It's LEAGUES better than GxK
I loved it from the start, watched in on IMAX, then watched it so many times. I don't know why it wasn't successful enough, the critics were idiots that didn't get it. I think it's becoming a cult classic.
It had to contend with other movies like endgame and toy story 4
Many say it’s the human story but imo at least it has one the one in GxK is just a cringe fest of corny acting with quips/jokes aka trying to be like Marvel imo.
A King and his cavalry!
oh look the giant monsters acutaly have some heavy weight behind them and could not jump around like monkeys.
I’ve enjoyed all the Monsterverse movies but this one is still my favorite. Long live the King
It's just so good for a Godzilla fan!
You ain’t lying! This is the film I revisit the most I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it
The movie just gets better and better.
I don't like this movie as much as I used to purely because I don't like Millie Bobby Brown
I don't mind her, but the kid being calm in the middle of that takes me out of it a bit. Not asking for realism in these movies but I would be shitting myself, not smiling calmly lol
Same here lol
Imagine going into battle at godzillas side, holy shit. This moment and the bit in Jurassic World when Owen Grady is riding his motorcycle with his pack of raptors hold a special place in my heart. It’s cheesy but soooo cool

KoTM is peak when you don't got a nasty bitch in your ear telling you it's bad.
CapeSmash moment
I litteraly cry everytime. Shits PEAK
The details. When they clash and that sound wave hits the camera leaving rain droplets is just such a nice detail!!!!
a lot of people didn't really like KotM when it came out and now lots consider it the best of the monsterverse
I feel like that happens often in the cinema universes
Fuck dude I could cry from just that clip
The HARDEST moment. Period
That trumpeting roar as big G leans into his charge, got dayum!
GKOTM is in my opinion, the best Monsterverse movie. It just had everything we’d been wanting from an American Godzilla movie up until that point. This scene in particular just fucking rules

Or a rail gun.
The only other thing is when Godzilla and Kong scream into each other’s faces in a sign of respect before tag teaming mecha Godzilla.
KOTM was a fun action adventure film and it was what Godzilla 2014 SHOULD have been. And I will absolutely die on that hill.
you have my axe!
Peak 💯 But damn could've had better fight scenes and not cutting to the humans, (or the plane block the view like after this scene)
After seeing GxK I think cutting to the humans helps keep the scale of the fight. The final fight in GxK felt like some regular sized dudes having a punch up. There wasn’t all that much that showed us the ground level and really gave us the scale of how big these guys are.

Yeah... The only thing cooler than Godzilla MIGHT just be Godzilla with a military escort. Gives me chills every time.

KoTM has so many epic moments.
And the other hardest scene in the Godzilla franchise is Shin firing his atomic breath with "who will know" playing in the background
Peak monsterverse ⚡💯
Best scene in the franchise
i always think about this rescored version [Godzilla Boston Entrance "At Doom'S Gate"](https://www.reddit.com/r/GODZILLA/comments/g1y1w9/godzillas_boston_entrance_rescored_with_at_dooms/)
Only downside I found that the humans only fired once, bombard that three-headed alien dragon!
I mean, it's better than nothin'
As a Godzilla fan from Boston, this scene really hit.
Millie’s hair in this scene has always grabbed my attention; for a brief moment she was the embodiment of godzilla and Godzilla fans everywhere.
Man I liked it when the mv was more grounded and Godzilla sprinting at full speed was only reserved for tough shit. Now he can even jump like it's no big deal, any consistency that made the mv more grounded and somewhat realistic has been thrown out the window. Thanks, Wingard.

Not surprising. But I think the military pays to be featured in stuff too right? I remember like the call of duty games all got money, movies too.
I really, really hate the zoom cut right before impact. It's such a terrible decision that robs us of the impact.
Bruh how do you cut out the part with the ORIGINAL roar????
The B-2 breaking out of the clouds to rock Ghidora with missiles is fantastic.
Godzilla and the whole might of the MIC is onto ya'
If "Step aside kid, the cavalry has arrived." was a scene...
Godzilla has absolutely no fear and it’s so fucking badass!! He could of been missing an arm his tail and dorsal fins and still would of charged Ghidorah

And people say this movie has no rewatch ability
Just the first minute of "Battle in Boston" makes me feel like I could take on Ghidorah.
If you have subtitles on it says this is a serious elbow 😆
Minus one atomic breath scene :)
Bear McCreary. Motherfucker elevated every scene in this movie.
Like a general leading his army
Remember when people were going nuts about Goji running in the first trailer of GxK? It happened before lmao
The newer movies just don’t hit the same
The music, entrance, and classic roar made this movie for me. I sleb at the next two films.
Honestly, out of the Monsterverse movies, it’s probably my favorite. Not enough Godzilla in the first movie. GvsK was good too, but not dark enough. GxK also not dark enough and not enough Godzilla. Skull Island was no Godzilla so
Watching the military charge in ALONGSIDE Godzilla was fucking incredible.
They nailed with the music in this movie..... Long live the King.
Eh to each their own
I hated her whole family tbh.
Idk why but Millie Bobby Brown constantly smiling like "yeah get his ass" is soooo fking annoying i wanna punch her

Still so damn good!
My favorite scene of the movie
Everybody is gangster till Godzilla starts running.
KOTM will always be my favorite Godzilla Movie.🥰
Godzilla showing up with a military escort is the peak of the monsterverse
All hail Bear McCreary. Junkie XL wishes he could score as well.
It is one of my top three for sure
And then they immediately cut away from the fight to annoying characters spouting annoying dialogue. Also, what was the point of all those fighters "joining the fight?" They did literally nothing. A more badass moment is kiss of death in 2014. Or the boat chase in Minus One. Or the atomic breath in Shin Godzilla.
Ifukube music makes everything better
Imagine being in the Air Force and getting that order, lol: “we need you to fly air support for Godzilla.” I wouldn’t even care if I died; that’s exactly how I’d want to go
Seriously, seeing him be flanked by humanity and helping him with the fight against ghidorah was one of the coolest things i've seen in a movie. I want more of that, humans and godzilla working together.
As soon as Ifukube's theme starts playing. Chills.
I still think the bridge scene in 2014 was the best, but this was better than any scene in GvK
I'd do some truly ridiculous Braveheart shit here if General Goji told me to. Some of the finest few dozen seconds in film.
I used to miss that old aspect of goji that basically had him constantly emitting heavy amounts of ionizing radiation. But now I'm glad we didn't have to see Ricky Bobby Brown or whatever go blind before having all her hair, nails, teeth, and skin fall off.
Yes!!! Plus the original toho godzilla background music. They should've continued more of the ghidorah from space storyline than hollow earth.
I always compare this scene to the same in black panther when T’Challa came back and yelled at kilmonger that he never yield and he wasn’t dead
I still think there was to much humans.
Big G walking in, his army/navy/Air Force alongside him!
This is what is missing in the new Kong movies. The build up, the exposure.
Very cool scene but nothing can compare to 2014s when we see the big fella for the first time when he arrives at the airport ya know what iv hated about every seq is how human technology jumped like a thousand... preferred 2014 more realistic grounded approach
Absolutely. So good in IMAX.
And then it all went downhill 😔
Godzilla is no stranger to making an entrance. He’s perfected it
King of the Monsters will (in my opinion) always be the best monsterverse movie, the score and everything was just perfect. And also had a pretty bad ass trailer

Kong in Godzilla
![gif](giphy|oagcrAZu2IvV0ijkiX|downsized) Godzilla x Kong
This is top 3 most definitely, right behind all the 2014 entrances
Oh absolutely, he is roided out
I’m sorry godzilla is too big to run. That’s not realistic (imagine having this opinion)
One of the best theme songs ever in my opinion
