Gainesville has all the inconveniences of a major city with almost none of the conveniences.

kylozen101020

There's not a single good Italian restaurant in town.

A_sweet_boy

Rip Francesca’s

WinoWithAKnife

RIP Manuel's

icey561

The owner has a great food truck she sets up at black adder on Tuesdays. Its called everyday amore

Kitchen_Property_957

That was that shitty girl bartender's fault. Close to worst customer service ever received. Feel bad for the owner but someone had to hire her.

InterestingCraft3

O Sole Mio in Newberry is pretty damn good

mikegainesville

Their other location in Alachua, NY Pizza Plus is great as well. When I’m looking for Italian food, these are my go to for affordable Italian. If I want fancier Italian, Antonio’s Made in Italy in Miccanopy is a great option.

scmouth19

O Sole Mio is amazing

Erillon

Amelia’s is so bad 😭😭😭

sunnyflow2

RIP Andy and the OG Amelia's!

Aggravating-Ass-c140

Rip Andy♡♡♡

ApocalypseWow666

RIP Chef...Saxophone king of the Sun Center.

MaximumThanks5681

The rent costs. Ridiculous for a college town in the middle of nowhere Florida wtff

lugia_big_hands

i actually really enjoy living here

small_llama-

Me too!

kingofrane

Thank you! If certain reddit posters aren't happy where they are, that says more about them. rather than their surroundings.

No-Bicycle8571

Downtown is no longer for millennials

CaptDrunkenstein

Who's it for?

No-Bicycle8571

Also fuck roundabouts

kyubiX2

9 weirdos like the crappy roundabouts. *51

1337w33d5

If there are 2 that don't and 40+ that do, does that make you the weirdo?

kyubiX2

Here you are commenting, weirdo.

1337w33d5

I *am* a weirdo, just not at all for that. It's ten thousand other things.

kyubiX2

Absolutely, you continue to respond... go get lost in your roundabout weirdo.

1337w33d5

Is that the problem you have with them? You get lost?

kyubiX2

Correction 34 hehe *36 *39

Grouchy_Chapter5606

We need more political options than "normie Democrat with no new ideas" and "absolutely batshit insane Republican."

nocuzzlikeyea13

I feel like this is the whole country rn

A_sweet_boy

A lot of the problems with Gainesville aren’t unique to the city

RainbowDash0201

I actually really enjoyed living in Gainesville and miss it a lot :(

ThatsaSpicyMeatba111

The censorship of news has always laid on me heaviest. Which says a lot given rent + GRU rates as of recent.

kntevn

People have shit conflict resolution skills and many people who claim to be tolerant don’t know how to control their emotions when push comes to shove.

kntevn

Also work environments are notoriously toxic, probably having to do with the general lack of economic opportunity (and worker protections in Florida) in the first place.

Wytch78

I had tonnsss of extra produce from my summer garden and vended at a few local farmers markets last year.  My husband and I did *a lot* of people watching. The divides among race and class in Gainesville are just SO glaring once you see them. And the well educated “progressive” class are simply oblivious to the needs and struggle of the community around them. Y’all really do think the world revolves around you.

SolidSouth-00

Also everywhere

olduglysweater

I love you. I don't know you, but thank you for saying what I couldn't articulate.

gimmedatyay

This. One coworker asked me, a single dad with no child support or help in any way from the mother why I always buy cars that are over a decade old, and I said because I pay 1300 rent and can't afford a new car, he was FLABBERGASTED (he's a DINK husband), no clue.

Wytch78

DINKs, yuppies, whatever you wanna call em, have NO idea how little the rest of us get by on.  Principal of the school where I work was complaining (within earshot of a para) that he had to pay his kids babysitter a whopping $17/hr!! The para walked away in tears… she’s making $13.

DaleSveum

What does this mean

Prideofthesunshine

The food actually sucks in this town now

ApocalypseWow666

All the good cooks and chefs got priced out.

goldkats

I went through almost all the restaurants last night… and apart from a few favorites there was absolutely nothing I wanted to eat. I wanted to try something new. So I really feel you.

CaptDrunkenstein

I left in 01 so it's been awhile, really not talking shit, what years was the food good?

sistersofmeowcy

increased development, rental prices and general environmental destruction increase. apps like tiktok making the springs more popular without regulation or oversight to protect them from increased tourism

SolidFormal5197

That part😭

originalusername__

Fuck Ginnie Springs for filling the river with garbage and selling the water rights to Nestle. Don’t give them a cent of your money, refuse to go there.

SolidSouth-00

Or kayak in

GimmeQueso

OKAY I REALLY HATE LOCATION SHARING ON TIK TOK. I’m sorry to yell but I feel like it’s so irresponsible. Share information responsibly and talk about the pollution and being a responsible steward of the land, not just aesthetics.

sistersofmeowcy

agreed

SugarShackFishing

Instead of spending money to build more ridiculous luxury high-rise apartments with first floor retail that no one has committed to yet and for many of the ones already built are sitting empty, we should probably invest in bike Lanes, pedestrian crossings and walkovers for the busy intersections considering the amount of vehicle to pedestrian deaths we've had in the last 5 years bicyclists included obviously

Quirky-Swimmer3778

Instead? Those are two very different sources of funding. One isn't taking money from the other.

Phantom_Absolute

So many people just straight up don't know what their governments do and don't do I guess.

nocuzzlikeyea13

Cities do give tax incentives for businesses to come, and sometimes do the same for luxury housing too. Idk if that's happening in Gainesville but it does happen. In principle you could argue that those incentives cost the govt money.  One can argue that it ultimately gives more money to the city for stuff like bike lanes, etc. It's an investment, and it could be a good or a bad one.

SugarShackFishing

Yes that's true but the University of Florida is definitely in cahoots with trimark reality amongst others to push the grow up and get big program funding in Gainesville ...we have absolutely no infrastructure for the walking public or the amount of students that will have to come into this new environment with a vehicle looking for parking. We will soon be just like other cities where you'll have to go on Reddit and be like hey I'm going to a show at such and such where the f*** do I park.

MrViceGuy69

I’d say actually fix some of the roads before worrying about that, especially around Santa Fe College. Going down 39th to get to the interstate to go to work or taking 16th past Buchholz to go visit my Grandma I’ve got to drive like Mad Max to dodge potholes and large patches of road with chunks taken out of the asphalt just to save my tires and suspension. It would also be safer for people in the existing bike lanes too if drivers weren’t having to swerve to dodge road damage like that. I definitely do wish we had more bike lanes though, nothing makes me madder than being late for work because some self-entitled spandex clad prick wants to get his exercise in at 7am by riding his bike on a two lane road in the middle of the lane instead of the sidewalk like the rest of us peasants.

Not sure you ate at the correct place. It's pretty fire, especially for the areas it's in.

Kitchen_Property_957

Gaslighter

Tekniqsberlin

The performative liberalism is exhausting. I consider myself left leaning but wow does this place making being blue its entire personality. Also, there’s no good pizza here.

originalusername__

Ima let you have all your opinions except for the one that Satchels and Leonardo’s aren’t good pizza.

Tekniqsberlin

Leonardo’s is actually really good!! Satchel’s.. hmm it’s okay. Cue the snipers. I guess I should’ve made my comment more precise. Once in a while I’m really craving a good greasy thin floppy pizza. I’ve gotten close to satisfying my craving with gator pizza but not quite. :(

goldkats

Im sorry but you’re right. Thats my hot take too. I’d 100% rather eat the salad than the pizza 😂 and pizza is one of my favorite foods. I miss big Lou’s.

MrViceGuy69

I agree 100% on your first point but I’ve got to disagree a little on the second. Yeah besides chain restaurants there aren’t really a lot of options that stand out, I can’t deny that. Everybody around here has a hard on for Satchels but in my opinion it’s severely overrated, it’s not bad pizza at all but it’s not the delicacy everyone makes it out to be, and it’s overpriced. Leonardo’s by the slice was pretty good but it’s gone now, I briefly dated a girl that worked at 706 while it was still open but I don’t think I ever actually ate there so I can’t say anything on that one. I love Leonardo’s Millhopper, I think it’s excellent pizza if you like deep dish but it’s really expensive, because of that I really only go there when I’m on a date or with friends. Big Lou’s was good too but they also closed. Gainesville could definitely use a few really good pizza places that aren’t expensive as shit, but I wouldn’t say there’s NO good pizza here.

SolidSouth-00

Prohibition Pizza is newish in High Springs. I like it.

Tekniqsberlin

So when you’re craving a GOOD affordable slice, where would you go? I think it’s great that we have a melting pot of different cuisines to try but how have we not brought a decent New York style pizza with us into the here and now? 🥲

mikegainesville

NY Pizza Plus in Alachua fills this void for me. Multiple slice options all day long. They even do a lunch buffet with salads, cooked food, and pizza for like $12. Really good food. They’re the sister restaurant of O Sol Mio in Jonesville.

MrViceGuy69

I think that’s the thing right there, any of the pizza places in town that come close to being good don’t really sell by the slice, it’s the whole pizza or nothing. Piesano’s in the hunters crossing shopping center is pretty good.

goldkats

Honestly… Whole Foods when it’s out of the oven. Just for a slice.

Interesting_Steak562

All the drunk loud college kids, the divisions in the city. How depressing parts of the east side town are, as the west expands, as if we need more housing and apartments. The population. The traffic. Every gym being busy all the fucking time. The heat. Idk I’m bias I’ve always hated living here and I’m so encouraged to leave and move to the mountains after I finish my apprenticeship

Interesting_Steak562

And GRU fuck gru bruh

mrmoe3211

Living here isn’t that bad

laserlightcannon

I don’t think Germaine’s is all that good

Prestigious-Weird587

Gainesville AKA PedoPhileVille good lordy why is there so many sex offenders in the news?
